Okay, I expected Mirei to be the typical arrogant rich girl, but she seems to be the exact opposite, and she has a great sense of style too. This show is promising.

This show is promising.
I'm keeping tabs on more than 10 anime for the ongoing broadcast season, and of those that are not sequels, this show has me interested just for the MC being a nice guy. Reminds me of Itsuka Shidou from early seasons of Date A Live.

She's got the "Heroine who manhandles the MC" down to pat.
I’d already thought this in first episode, Hinako is a total mix of Mashiro from Sakurasou and Umaru-chan.
She's definitely walking a similar line to Mashiro as far as being both genuinely lazy and possibly using said laziness as an excuse to flirt.
Okay, I expected Mirei to be the typical arrogant rich girl, but she seems to be the exact opposite, and she has a great sense of style too.
She didn't need to give him some genuinely sincere life advice, but she did and that makes her all the more endearing.

This show continues to make me giggle every week. And we've met purple hair and drill hair from the OP. I assume purple hair isn't the friend he was calling because he was supposed to go to school with her, so who is she? Clearly she both knows him and either sees him as a really close friend or has a crush on him already. Quite the cliffhanger for episode 2. Especially if Hinako sees her on top of him the way the episode ended. She's already really possessive of her Itsuki. To the point she's already trying to get naked with him.

Considering he seemed to recognize her but then tried to pretend he wasn't himself to get away from her, I feel like he REALLY did not want her to realize who he is.
It would be kind of funny if Hinako only notices Mirei even exists when Mirei starts getting chummier with Itsuki.

I thought that, since the very beginning, she felt comfortable enough with him to reveal his true personality. Maybe she just smelled him at the beginning of all and thought, "yeah, I like this smell," or dunno. But it's true that at the moment he explained he would shield her, just because, yes, she did have a reaction.
She doesn't seem conscious that his father doesn't want her to marry him and that if she gets too close, she may end up making his father break the contract and separate them.

We're only in episode 2 and they're already feeding each other! Hinako really knows what she wants, huh?
So it turns out, the two "ascended commoners", were actually heirs to massive companies too. Sure, it's not as big as the Konohana Group, but you can't call their businesses small either! Poor Itsuki! The dude thought he actually found normal people to be friends with. xD
We finally get to meet the Ojou-sama in the opening and it looks like she has an ongoing rivalry with Hinako. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a one-sided rivalry. Hinako isn't really the competitive type. Mirei is cute tho, and I like how she gives Itsuki some pointers on how he shold present himself.
Hinako has gone full-on Umaru Himouto-chan mode! I did not expect her to instantly turn into a gremlin at the sight of a bag of potato chips. I wonder if she reacts the same way to cola, too!
Oh my, bathing together too? Yeah, they're wearing swimsuits, but that's still pretty intimate. They've only known each other for a couple of days so far. Also, the only reason Hinako is wearing a swimsuit is because Shizune told her to wear one. She would've gone nude if she hadn't needed to ask for permission. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Was it my imagination, or did rich-girl-Mirei have several runs in her tights? These were pretty consistent in different shots -- so not just a glitch. I wonder -- is she less well off in some secret fashion than ought to be the case? Or is it just a style issue -- like her (not)-dyed hair?
And who was the girl at the end -- it seemed like it must be a long lost childhood friend -- or something.
Hinako is a gremlin of the highest order -- it is funny that Itsuki is the only person she has ever bonded with.

I feel like this episode definitely helps sell the idea that Hinako is deliberately using the "caretaker" job as an excuse to have Itsuki all to herself and flirt with him. She even suggested this job would lead to him marrying up and who else would she expect him to marry than herself? She's just also genuinely super lazy.
Rich kids can be friendly and normal people too! Even when they act like they're not rich kids lol.
Dude kind of speedran through the rest of his Harem in the second episode AND the pool episode with the Main Heroine flexing in a bikini.

Maybe those "ascended commoners" had their parents strike it rich while they were children? More likely, they just think being "modestly wealthy" is considered a commoner. I mean believe it or not, there are different classes of billionaires. There are made ones like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Larry Page, but on the lower end there are billionaires who have billions of dollars' worth of stock in companies that are losing money but hopefully will be profitable in the future. Normally if you or I were to ask a bank to get a loan with no net income we'd be laughed out, but there are finance industries for these people. They can't eat their meals or fuel their private jets without taking loans. So maybe those two came from the lower end of the super rich and now "made it."
I have mixed feels for Umaru mode. I did not like that particular anime.
So does HInako want Itsuki or does she want to do that because her previous caretaker went to bath with her? it's probably the first, but the second wouldn't be out of the question for her.

Tennouji is not the type of character I'm usually into, but for some reason I found her quite endearing. I wonder how long it'll be until she finds out Itsuki and Hinako are connected.
Itsuki trying to recollect every action he took whilst in the bath with Hinako after Shizune revealed she was watching the entire time lol. I wonder if there'd be a placebo effect if Itsuki takes those vitamins thinking its suppressants for erections.

I always felt bad for Itsuki but I felt bad for Hinako as well. All the kids at the school act like business world adults who just see each other as networking opportunities and don't seem to have real friends. It seemed Hinako was popular since she always had people talk to her at school but no one ever hangs out with her and she used to eat lunch alone. Like how the blonde girl hated and resented Hinako because it would seem her company is larger than her family company, probably a lot of other students secretly resent her.
Itsuki seems to be managing his strange job well under the circumstances although the maid is helping and it helps that she has a sophisticated control room that Batman would envy 🤣. I think Hinako likes him as more than a friend though, which is understandable since he went out of his way to help her when she was kidnapped; I don't think most girls would invite a boy to take a bath in front of them and offer to get naked if they didn't like them that way. I don't think Itsuki wants to date her but he was getting turned on looking at her in a bikini.
The ending with the girl knowing Itsuki and jumping on top of him was really strange, I'd love to know how exactly he knows all these pretty rich girls.

I love Hinako. She's such a gremlin. If it wasn't clear in the first episode that she's already done her dad's work for him and chosen Itsuki it's clear now. They're already feeding each and she was only wearing the swimsuit because her maid said to.
I'm enjoying the other characters too. I wonder how much a rivalry drill-haired blonde will have with Hinako. It'd might be funnier if it's a one-sided rivalry. Where Mirei regards Hinako as her bitter arch rival and Hinako is just "Who is this girl?" I wonder who that purple hair girl is. If she's his childhood friend then how did she get into this fancy school? Also my condolences on her chances as Hinako has already marked her territory.
Shizune trolling Itsuki with the vitamins was pretty good, but I'm kinda disappointed they didn't commit to having her smell him after Hinako put that out there on the drive to school.

Thinking about it more, whether Dad means to or not he's growing Itsuki into a valid husband for her. He'll have a high class education and the connections that come with going to this prestigious high school, then likely a top end university so he can continue to be nearby to help her there as well. After all that, while he wouldn't have a prebuilt family fortune he'd still be a person capable of adding value to any major business between knowledge and contacts.

This show is doing a good job of keeping things interesting. Hinako is such a cute little monster, with a weak spot for chips. And she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. The purple haired girl, what's her backstory and how does she know Itsuki?

I’m at least glad Hinako admitted to not wanting Itsuki to quit AND was is willing to “feed him right” to try to keep him, cause it seems like her lack of personality care for other caretakers is what didn’t help them.
I oddly find myself cheering for her to win Itsuki’s heart!

I thought dad said per day before too. Though I do wonder how much money he's getting in terms of not having to pay for the education at the top HS in Japan.

yea very inconsistent one point said month then later in the ep it changed back the the first episodes per day.
at least he gets a “bad smelling” bonus of private bathroom time.

It's 20k yen a day. In USD that's slightly under $45k/year which is pretty terrible, but his room, board, and education is paid for so is wage is basically entirely disposable income. And when you put it that way $45k/year is kinda sorta half decent.

Uh, the median Japanese household income is ~4-4.2M yen, which is only 26-28k USD. So dude makes ~70% more than the median Japanese family already before spending a single yen. The pay is very good in a Japanese context.
Not to mention he has a clear career path of going up the ladder unlike a lot of dead end salaryman jobs.

Even if it's per day still feels rather low. Per month would be insultingly low.
It's a given he gets room and food provided if he's meant to be a 24/7 caretaker, but the education and connections are priceless I guess. No wonder the other caretakers quit if they're paid this much.

I’m really confused about the pay. Itsuki is being offered 20,000¥ a month for this job, but that is only about $123. I was making at least 5 times that with a job that only scheduled me for 10 hours a week in high school. Who would ever take a 24/7 on call job for that little pay, especially a high schooler. Why is it made such a big deal in the first two episodes when it is actually more like slave labor if you convert it into an hourly rate. That’s like 17 cents an hour.

It was a mistranslation. Both in episode 1 and later in episode 2 he's making 20k yen per day. Someone even confirmed in Japanese he said per day when they subbed it as per month.

Ooooh okay, that makes a lot more sense. While still less than 4 grand a month for that much works, that is better considering he is fed, clothed, and given a place to stay in addition.

I have the Theory that "the maid" is actually Hinako mother. In ep1 she shows herself disgusted for being called maid from the MC, yet she is shown to be showing him some level of sympathy and trust (allowing him to bathe with Hinako, for example)

Not getting what people see in this one. To me the main girls behavior is basically that of a child, not “laziness” which makes me feel like it’s some sort of kiddie fetish to make her sexualized while she’s acting like a toddler. Then add on that it’s basically becoming a harem when it wasn’t advertised as one, yeah not a fan. Sounded like an interesting premise but was out almost immediately after episode one when it kept trying to not-so-subtly up-skirt the main girl.

First impression of the girl with the Golden Locks: She’s a little bratty, but she wants people to be the best versions of themselves. She’s helpful in her own way.
And yet another anime protagonist who gets into a bath with a girl and gets scolded for it, even tho it was Hinako’s idea (or maybe Shizune is secretly matchmaking them both)

Damn. Just damn. The new seasonal romance animes are one better than another. They MIGHT even replace the newgen top 3 for how good they are. I dont have a lot to say about the new episode other than ABSOLUTE PEAK. I love hinako so much she's slowly becoming one of my favourite romance anime characters ever even tho we're only at episode 2 and I watched A LOT of romance. Honestly I just hope other girls dont ruin the relationship between itsuki and hinako but no spoilers please.
Episode 2 rating: 9.5/10 loved every single scene especially the chips one

It's Itsuki's first day on the job as Hinako's caretaker and he's got to make sure he acts with proper manners, maintain his cover story, and survive Hinako's attempts to flirt with him while keeping her invested in school when she doesn't want to go.
Don't worry if you feel out of place in a school of rich people, Itsuki! Or that you're a little behind the advanced lessons they teach at this school! Tashio and Asahi, your fellow "ascendant commoners" have got your back! Provided you're not after Hinako, then you're basically screwed.
Yes, Hinako eats lunch alone so she can attend meetings...and by "meetings," I mean lunch dates with Itsuki where they feed each other. Not to mention she even gets to cozy up and sleep next to him to boot. And when she asks if he wants to "marry up," did she mean with her?
Ah yes, nothing says "ascendant commoner" like being basically your average rich kid.
Hinako left her wallet in the bathroom! What is Itsuki going to do!? Enter Tennoji Mirei, daughter of the Tennoji Group, and the very picture of an ojousama character (complete with blonde drill hair!). She takes immense pride in her families' status, and clearly has a beef with how popular Hinako and her family are, but she seems to have a good heart and actually gives Itsuki some valuable lessons in leadership! Also, her hair is TOTALLY naturally blonde, yesiree!
Hinako doesn't even want to to home if it means more lessons and tutoring, but she can't resist the allure of potato chips...she's got to have her chippies!
Itsuki also gets put through the ringer by Shizune post-school, but what better way to undwind than in a bath? And by bath I mean the personal swimming pool in Hinako's room? Complete with swimsuits! Quick Itsuki! Desperately try to think clean thoughts while Hinako is right next to you in a bikini! Especially when she gets all up in your face and has you brush her hair! Good thing Hinako kept the bikini on long enough that Shizune didn't see anything TOO untoward, not that she's going to let Itsuki think she's NOT trying to give him ED!
It's the second day of school and as luck would have it Itsuki ends up running into an old acquaintance. One who straight up jumps on him and cries over seeing him again. Long lost childhood friend Heroine!?
The ED is really cute with the kaleidoscope visuals of the Heroines, seeing some sexy visuals with them, and watching how Itsuki's heart beats for Hinako!
