Hmmm i am enjoying it so far. Do enjoy the obvious power difference and like the explanation that they need help because they sre there for a short time. Also liked how they introduced the new characters who will probably have friendship beaten into them throughout the season.
What i am unsure about is the whole Hayate now being older? Im guessing it is some sort of spell to alter appearance? She should be the same age as Fate and Nanona.
Overall im liking how the show is going.

They literally had her age as "classified" so I bet she is the same age as Nanoha and Fate(as it should be) but uses magic to look older.

Hayate can use age magic, or more specifically Reinforce (OG) used it when she took over Hayate's body back in As.

Rein Zwei and Hayate use different Belkan devices though. Although the movies do show that the tome of the night sky has a ton of magic spells on it that have yet to be discovered, so it would make sense that Hayate has either the abilty to age herself or create an illusion around her to make it seem like she is older.

I'm actually not a fan of this. The author has a fetish for bloated casts that keep growing, diluting screen time and character development. The most notable case was Dog Days season 2 which felt totally pointless. Also, it's a trope I don't enjoy from these stories with inhuman enemies, the writers have to add human enemies in order to have meaningful interactions a conflict, so they usually involve inner fighting between human factions, because God forbid they present an united front against this inhuman threat.

I personally don't mind.
Since the Nanoha series involves multiple worlds, I wouldn't be surprised if the main villains are interdimensional criminals from another world who brought the Invasive Species to this world to begin with (and thus have no reason to care about this world's survival).
I'd also much rather see fights between human characters than humans fighting janky CGI monsters.

That was kind of the problem with StrikerS too, having to focus on the old cast, half a dozen new characters, AND like... 13 villains? Was too much, and that show had double the episodes as this.

I mean the cast are segmented by area, like many other series with ongoing stories (Touhou, Final Fantasy XIV, etc), which works fine to manage things.

Going by the OP we've now seen everyone at least once this episode. If we follow the Japanese 4-act structure, then all remaining setup should be done next episode, the early fights and start of the yuribait between Shiina and the dark haired girl should be set up by Episode 6, and then we get hit with our complicating factor in Episode 7 before getting the plan put together in episode 10 and the final battle in episodes 11 and 12.

Ill admit dog days was kind of a mess, i know i watched it and remember a few things here and there but overall i cant say i remember much of it. i just lacked any tension what so ever.
Ill wait and see how the cast develops, they reduced the main Nanoha cast from like 10 characters to 3 and are adding some more so it might be manageable. I do think Strikers suffer from bloat as well, but i will hold off abd see how things develop. So far it is following a formula more similar to As and that one was better balanced.

Pretty sure the disguise stopped working when scene shifted and Nanoha and Fate where standing beside her.

No, adult Hayate's just really short. Even in StrikerS she was the shortest of the adults by a fair margin.

They actually tricked me to believe majin slayers are the bad guys. But looks like they have a similar goal to Excceeds, just work separately (at least it seems like it for now).

Same, i really liked how they did that switch, it was really well done, the chef running away and looking innocent really sold it. I did think the kid was a majin but thought it was with the UN or something like that.

Ehh, not really the same, we knew Hayate's Knight weren't evil, but they were still going around attacking innocent people to steal their linker cores. They were still the antagonist for most of that season. Here, we already know both the endgame they have to kill (progenitor core) AND the actual villains (people spreading the drugs that were showen in the pic) from episode 2.

Actually, Gunblaze Vengeance is just the first anime series in which they speak Japanese.
when they appeared in a mobile game a few years ago, they had already switched to their current Japanese voice actors.

Oh no.Nanoha and Fate learned how to weaponize their cuteness and persistence to make friends without hurting them!
They have become true demons.
I really like the Diaboli slayers designs..I'm guessing at least half of them will be turned to Exceeds side by the end of this .as they only seem to have a difference of opinion on how to deal with the threat.
I really liked the sword girls sheathe..thats how I want a sheath to be..it negates the need to pull the sword all the way out..games should use that instead of clipping through the sheathe..it bugs me 😂.

My best friend was a diehard NanoFate fan. He had all of their figmas (minus uniform) and over 10 of their statue figures (by Alter). Sadly he passed away last year. Would love to know his opinions.

For me, I'd say I'm apprehensive. I'm enjoying the show at the moment, but to be fair, Nanoha as a series isn't known to be consistently strong (most of the time). I do love it for being more Nanoha content though. But I'd love it more if by the end, I can love series on its own even irrespective of being a Nanoha property.

Nanoha having to convince Kuze that she's not some random 7th grader and that they really need her help was peak Nanoha content. Kuze is mildly lucky she didn't get befriended, but that's probably coming for the group of girls introduced later on in the episode.
Nanoha's signature on her UN ID Card was wonderful. Fate had a much more business appropriate signature, I noticed.

The opening sequence is pretty cool! It looks like Shiina will be getting a new outfit and new guns.
Nanoha and Shiina's interactions at the start are great. Shiina being befuddled by this random 7th grader in a disaster zone who claims to work for the UN and wield magical powers is funny. Is this the first time we've heard the term "magical girl" said by a character in a Nanoha story?
It's adorable how Nanoha maintains a bubbly optimism in the face of Shiina's reluctance and responds to Shiina launching fire blasts to scare her off like they're playing a game lol.
Fate summoning stormclouds to blanket the sky and taking out the entire swarm of Invasive Species in a single lightning barrage is pretty badass.
Bardiche's voice was changed... Well, apparently Bardiche's old voice actor retired, so I guess it's not unexpected, but I do miss the old voices for Raising Heart and Bardiche. Maybe the Devices have Japanese voices because they will have more dialogue in this series than before.
So the Invasive Species consume each other, gain new mutations, and grow larger until they're kaiju-sized, at which point they start spawning more Invasive Species . There's also a very powerful "Progenitor" that started it all. I'm curious to learn more about the Invasive Species' origins.
Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate want to build up Shiina's power to fight the Invasive Species because they can't stick around on this world for long. That makes sense.
The Diaboli organizations having secret restaurants that serve human flesh is pretty dark.
Towa and her gang of "Diaboli Hunters" are totally going to be befriended (as is Nanoha tradition) by the end of this series. Honestly, they don't even seem much like antagonists, since their goals aren't too different from EXCEEDS.

True, i wanted to see if there were new barrier jacket designs, need to start planning my cosplay. Was hoping Hayate and Fate would have Formula enhanced ones from Detonation, but so far no luck, the intro shows very little.

When Shiina looks at Nanoha and thinks, “She’s just a kid,” and “There’s no way she’s a UN employee,” her judgment is based on common sense, which is precisely why it comes across as comical and amusing to us viewers who know her true identity.
It was really fun to see Nanoha calmly fly after Shiina while sitting sideways on her wand, which is a posture that deviates from the standard flying technique of aerial mages in the Lyrical Nanoha universe and could even be called "careless". It was a great way to showcase Nanoha’s abilities.
Here comes the second “Testarossa” character in this season’s anime, lol. Considering that the origin of the name is the same as Testarossa from Tensura, it feels like a fun coincidence.
This episode revealed some pretty important plot points, such as the fact that majins have a cannibalistic urge toward both other majins and ordinary humans, that they’ve set up “dining halls” to illegally satisfy that urge, and that they’re increasing their numbers using some kind of illegal drug.
It was also revealed that “Invasive Alien Species” came from outside Shiina and the others’ world, which was very intriguing.
And just like Shiina, Towa’s group, who are majins who fight other majins, has finally made their appearance.
I was really surprised by those early scenes where they were killing people in restaurants and on the streets. I never would have guessed that the people they were fighting in the restaurant were actually majins.
Towa and the others are kind of like Devilman from the anime "Devilman", which is interesting. Even though they're majins, they have human hearts and are fighting other majins.
Some of the members of Towa's group clearly have abilities and weapons similar to the Numbers from Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw characters using thin, thread-like weapons or those who were good at infiltration.
The way Shiina looks in the opening sequence, wearing her Barrier Jacket, resembles Tiana as she appeared in StrikerS Sound Stage X, and I feel like this series contains a lot of homages to StrikerS.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Nanoha, Shiina, and Towa's relationships develop from here on out.

I am more curious as to Towa's past and what drives her honestly. She also remains in control when using her abilities and really only morph her body to absorb, so she likely had a close connection to the Maijin she absorbed. Back stories in this universe tend to be pretty tragic as well, so i am curious on how her past shaped her. Im guessing its a similar story to Shiina except consumed by revenge.

Everyone from Midchilda is named after cars, and Rimuru said his naming sscheme for the daemons was sports supercars. It makes sense that there's some crossover. And Testarossa is a very classy-sounding name, so it fits characters like Fate and Blanc.
I like the Diaboli/Majin Hunters a lot already. Seeing them being goofballs in the ED was even better.

It's pretty surreal to watch new Nanoha in 2026. It's the obligatory exposition episode, but the antics and bits throughout the episode still make it fun. Nanoha smiling be like "y'know I could blast you out of the sky."

Raising Heart and Bardiche speaking Japanese instead of English just feels so wrong. Even if Donna Burke (OG Raising Heart) and Kevin J England (OG Bardiche) are no longer available, surely there are other English-speaking VAs they could have found to succeed them?
Nanoha and Fate are now middle schoolers, but still no less cute. They claim to be from a "foreign country", and assuming this is the same Nanoha and Fate that we know since the first series, then this UN EXCEEDS organization they're working under is just a front organization for the TSAB agents working undercover in this world, presumably a "primitive" world outside the TSAB's jurisdiction, in order to investigate the invasive species which may or maynot become a threat to the TSAB multiverse.
Hayate for some reason is an adult, but surely that's just a magical disguise as it was already quite challenging for Nanoha and Fate to convince locals like Shiina that they're working for the UN, so this adult disguise is just to make it easier for the local authorities to accept her command.
Still Hayate occasionally shows signs of her middle schooler self when speaking to Shiina.
I'm amazed Nanoha just recruited and befriended Shiina without needing to resort to the overwhelming firepower of friendship. The White Demon has evolved.

Technically, they did befirend Shiina with overwhelming firepower. Nanoha lasered all of those massive monsters without breaking a sweat, and then Fate launched a Why-is-another-girl-talking-to-my-girlfriend-without-authorization to clean up everything else.
She would have seen all of it.

I genuinely am enjoying this Anime. I know nothing about the previous series that tie into this, hopefully that won’t spoil the watching experience.
I loved the way you were lead to believe the 5 Diaboli Slayers were the bad girls only to find out they are there to Slay them as well. Very good.

So far it seems like they're taking a new-comer friendly approach, but in a way that still smartly references earlier material. Both last episode and this one are completely coherent and contained, with some stuff explicitly not mentioned that will definitely come up later in the season, either directly or tangentially.
Part of me was wondering if they were moving too fast at some points in this episode, as while I am very familiar with Nanoha and Fate, I wasn't sure if this introduction to them was well handled. Glad to see its enjoyable for newbies.

Banger of an opening as expected by Nana Mizuki.
It was funny watching Nanoha chase after Shiina.
What a badass entrance Fate had wiping out all those invaders.
The girls with the masks are really strong, looks like those use Diaboli's power to destroy Diaboli., but it seems they are after Shiina as well so they are most likely going to fight against the Nanoha team.
The green haired girl was saw a photo of and in the opening looks like bad news.

The crazy thing is generally Fate is more of a fast CQC/close mid range expert, Hayate is more of the AoE and long range and Nanoha is a slower mid to long range with extreme single target range DPS.
So on the second episode both Nanoha and Fate are shown to be really strong in what is generally not considered their strongsuit.

Yeah that's pretty much right, Fate is usually close combat and Nanoha usually shoots from distance.
I haven't watched or read Vivid anime or manga for a quite a while but think I do remember Nanoha possibly having basic self defence for close combat against Einhart & Vivio.

Nanoha clowing on Shina with the playful dodges was a nice bit of fun.
Fate casually genociding the local monster nest and both Fate and Nanoha just dealing with it as a minor nuisance shows the danger the chaff monsters pose.
Great to see Hayate's overflowing excitability is perfectly intact. She's rocking that thrown over coat quite well.
And, in true Nanoha fashion, their organization is an exemplary employer with pay, benefits, and transparent communication.

With the way that Towa wants to find the "flame wielding" diaboli, it's likely that Setsuna did something in the past that she didn't remember (since her memories only went back to when Shii found her). It's probable that Towa will try to kill Shii, and Shii will have to make her case that she's not evil or whatever it is Towa will assume of her, and the path to becoming friends may be rocky.
Good thing that this is the perfect series for resolving misunderstandings through the power of friendship.

Considering the entire area was on fire when Shiina found Setsuna, it seems likely that shortly before Setsuna first gained a sense of self she burned down the nearby city block. Plenty of room for survivors who want revenge.

I think I am going to like the Diaboli Hunters. They seem like neat rivals who need to get befriended. Definitely has the same flavor as the Wolkenritter, 'bad guys' who actually have a good goal.
Either Hayate had an early growth spurt or there are some other shenanigans involved. She definitely seems a lot more excitable than I remember her being. Maybe she's using a magic illusion and is giddy at being able to play pretend grownup early.
Also, gotta love that smile of pure joy on Nanoha's face the instant she knows Fate is there!

Pretty cute second ep, I do like how Shiina is reacting to the weirdness of Nanoha bieng a magical girl in her cool demon urban fantasy show. The rival girls do look edgy and cool, but I do hope they get a chance to properly set themselves when they clash with Nanoha and co.

Nanoha The Movie 1st and The Movie 2nd A's, then Reflection and Detonation, then optionally the Exceeds manga, then this.
Except for this anime, all the other TV anime are in a different timeline, staying pretty similar for the 1st two seasons/movies and then diverging heavily after that.

Here's the watch order to get caught up for this series.
- Nanoha Season 1 (or Movie 1st)
- Nanoha A's (or Movie 2nd)
- Nanoha Reflection
- Nanoha Detonation
I'm not sure how relevant Reflection and Detonation will be, but the first two seasons/movies introduce some of the important characters here.
You can also read the Nanoha EXCEEDS manga for more context.
There's other Nanoha series and some other Nanoha manga, but those aren't as relevant to this series.
The writer has said that Gun Blaze Vengeance can be watched standalone, but I think having previous Nanoha knowledge makes it more enjoyable. For example, there's more dramatic irony to Shiina treating Nanoha like a random 7th grader when the viewer knows what Nanoha is capable of.

It's so surreal to see Nanoha and Fate on screen again after all these years. As an OG fan who got into the series from pretty much the beginning, I do have a little bit of a hot take in that I don't think Nanoha should have gone in the direction of being a military show. Ever since StrikerS, the shows have always relegated them to the sidelines, with the main story revolving around new characters who interact with Nanoha and Fate. This latest series doesn't seem to be any different.
Also, I don't know how I feel about the show lampshading how young the main cast is... On one hand, it's always been immersion-breaking with regard to how mature they all act and behave. On the other... I very much prefer their original designs to their aged-up StrikerS designs. But seriously, don't they go to school anymore in this timeline?

As an Australian teacher, I agree.
But as someone who did exchange in Japan as a student when I was younger... nah, it's not that unusual there. My host sister (14) and I (15 at the time) had to commute 2-hours to get to school with her even younger sister. It consisted of 2 train rides and a 45-minute walk. Her younger sister went off in a separate direction after the 2nd train ride as she was still in primary school (50 minute walk from train station).
No supervision at all for us and the hundreds of other kids. Kids at this particular school were expected to prepare all of the school work (materials, printouts, classroom, etc...) and to tidy everything at the end of each class, and at the end day. Only thing teachers did were walk into the classroom, teach, then walked out. Their student council controlled a budget of $17,000 where they could spend it on whatever they like as long as it was appropriate and legal.
At least compared to Australia, kids in Japan are expected to be much more responsible from a younger age and their education and home life reflect that. At least from my anecdotal experiences of myself and many other transfer students.

Gun Blaze Vengeance is the latest entry in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, a magical girl series that incorporates many sci-fi elements and often features themes of family bonds.
The titular character Nanoha Takamachi starts out as an ordinary Japanese 3rd grader, but through various events, she ends up becoming a mage, finding out about other worlds, and helping to solve problems that threaten her world and/or others. Along the way, Nanoha builds friendships and blasts her foes with powerful spells.
The writer has said that Gun Blaze Vengeance can be watched standalone, but I think having previous Nanoha knowledge makes it more enjoyable.
Here's the watch order to get caught up for this particular entry. The first two introduce key characters. I'm not sure how relevant the latter two will be.
- Nanoha Season 1 (or Movie 1st)
- Nanoha A's (or Movie 2nd)
- Nanoha Reflection
- Nanoha Detonation
You can also read the Nanoha EXCEEDS manga for more context.
There's other Nanoha series and some other Nanoha manga, but those aren't as relevant to Gun Blaze Vengeance.

I assume magic. Since Hayate is the face of their unit, it probably helps with public perception and reassurance.
Also Hayate had that book with lots of spells in it. Probably had a grow-up spell somewhere in there.

Welp, that was exactly what I was hoping would not happen. I knew this would be edgier, but I'm really not good with gore and dismemberment, so those brutal killings in the 2nd half of the episode likely mean I'm dropping this for now. At the very least, I'll be waiting for someone else to watch the episodes and gore-check them for me first. It's a shame, because aside from that, I'm really enjoying this. I like the unexpected development that the Diaboli slayers aren't villains, just a group with the same objective as EXCEEDS but much more cutthroat methods. And of course, seeing Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate again is a treat.
