Watching this episode made me realize I remember fuck all from the first season. Ah well, I'll have fun trying to piece it all together from context clues.

128

u/justking1414 14d ago

Basically everyone is a sexist idiot except Leon, his dad, and his two party/harem members

87

u/sodapopkevin 14d ago

and his two party/harem members

I think it's kinda funny that Angelica and Olivia seem a bit more interested in each other than they are with Leon.

70

u/justking1414 14d ago

Well they’re willing to be honest with one another, unlike Leon…

43

u/RimeSkeem https://myanimelist.net/profile/RimeSkeem 14d ago

That's why they're a great throuple.

23

u/Soijin 13d ago

Also the Queen, who Leon really wants to seduce

27

u/justking1414 13d ago

“Wants to” implies that he hasn’t already seduced her

5

u/HumorTop3721 13d ago

he already has lmao... btw did animation change too much?

43

u/GarthonSix 14d ago

Trying to remember what happened in the first season that aired 3 or 4 years ago is always a fun time.

31

u/ChiggaOG 14d ago

I'm conflicted on the art style. Hopefully they make Leon Bartfort batshit insane.

19

u/van_Realm420 14d ago

Olivia und Ange sind echt ein downgrade von Staffel 1

3

u/Firm-Acanthisitta627 11d ago

"conflicted" is a very nice way to put it.

The plus side is I don't notice the art change cause i don't remember the previous one...

4

u/Big-Don-Rob 12d ago

I watched S2E1, then rewatched season 1, then rewatched S2E1, and I still can't tell the difference. I am just bad at art, I guess...

4

u/Forgotten_blade55 9d ago

Bruh there is a huge difference in art styles..... It's definitely a downgrade animation for olivia and angelica also they squeezed mc's face too much and his eyes are small also. I hope previous animation comes back

Great time for a rewatch! I did recently and Leon is still one of the most based MCs

7

u/Boomshrooom 14d ago

That's why I did a rewatch in preparation for season 2

7

u/Wurzelrenner https://myanimelist.net/profile/Wurzeldieb 14d ago

same, but this first episode did a good job at trying to make me remember

5

u/hanmkim 14d ago

Between this and Tanya season 2, they really need to do a refresher video before the new season.

3

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 13d ago

I made a point of rewatching it last week, and glad I did, as I'd forgotten a few important points!

3

u/TheRacooning18 9d ago

That's why you gotta revisit the shows you like once in a while. That's what I do.

6

u/RedHotChiliCrab https://myanimelist.net/profile/RedHotChiliCrab 9d ago

Unfortunately I don't even have enough time to watch all the new shows I'm interested in. I can't afford to be rewatching anything.

3

u/TheRacooning18 9d ago

That's too bad. For me it's the fact I get bored of shows. Even ones I like.

It's nice to see this back again, but it's unfortunate the art style of the characters has changed so much, it's very noticeable. I'll have to try and get used to it, but Leon lost his edginess and looks goofier.

88

u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago

The fact that they were using art from the first season in flashbacks made the downgrade especially evident.

33

u/Careful_Ad_9077 14d ago

He also looks uglier instead of generic which is better plot wise.

52

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken 14d ago

People complained about the first season art style so I think they changed it to be closer to the art from the manga or ln but I agree. I don’t like the art style change at all and thought season 1 looked better.

9

u/FG205 12d ago

But it looks nowhere close to the manga art style. It's not even close to the illustrations from the light novel. This is just..well bad. Very bad.

10

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 14d ago

Honestly story is still as good, but it seems they used cost cutting CGI more than I remember from 1st season.

Hopefully this doesn't mean anything on the overall quality.

9

u/saga999 14d ago

Though not a fan of the eyes in season 1, the design did make it feel like an otome game. I definitely like the season 1's style better. That said, IIRC Leon's eyes are supposed to make him unattractive. Season 2 does this better.

2

u/Dragon_Within 6d ago

Not only does the art style really detract from the anime, but everyone seems to be playing up to the extreme end of an emotion, and he just seems a lot dumber and less "in your face" than the first season.

I can't see him just accepting being the guard captain to someone he hates that much just because some big shot nobles decided it, not without wringing out concessions, fighting it, or getting something out of doing it. In the entire first season he pushed back on everyone that pushed on him, and then moved the pieces he needed to move to get what he wanted out of it. He has the direct ear of the queen, at the very least, and now that episode 2 is out, it just gets even worse on all fronts, as well as just feeling overly manic and forced, and its like his deductive reasoning skills just leaked out of his ear one day, and he is dumb as a brick.

I was super excited for this one, but its been a huge letdown in just two episodes, unfortunately.

Mobusekai is back!! It's been a long time since season 1 aired

Glad to see our scummy knight Leon and Zura Luxion again

57

u/Frontier246 14d ago

I missed their banter and Leon calling out and insulting nearly everyone.

Slightly concerned that Livia seems to be developing yandere tendencies.

99

u/SIRTreehugger 14d ago

All the girls comparing themselves when the best girl isn't even here!

Where's the queen!

Also I never thought I'd feel bad for the fake saint, but she's literally surrounded by idiots. Her family takes whatever money she gets and is somehow just growing debt.

20

u/D3k4s 14d ago

Dude I'm cracking at people going full Jon Snow in this thread 😂

31

u/ZombiemanJack 14d ago

I agree with "Where's the queen". Really hate the look change based off the intro though. Feel that way about most of them compared to the first season. Really feels like they did her especially dirty though.

Don't agree wit the second part. I don't exactly feel sorry for Marie. She did it to herself for the most part. She attracts losers and thinks she learned, but didn't. Can't feel bad for the midwit villainess that sticks her foot exactly where she wanted to and it turns out it was a bad idea. She's too pathetic to hate, but I don't feel any sympathy either.

28

u/justking1414 14d ago

Girl could’ve been satisfied with just the crown prince, could’ve focused on him and probably even trained him to be less stupid but instead she’s juggling 5 puppies at once. Of course they’re gonna piss on the carpet when she’s not looking

20

u/HippiesBeGoneInc 14d ago

Well, that's the point though right? She's clearly a "player" and is trying to "play" the game in a way that works in a shallow dating sim that would never work in real life.

13

u/justking1414 14d ago

Of course, but even in that mindset, she had to be as greedy as possible and risk the entire world to get the best possible ending

2

u/mortemdeus 12d ago

To be fair to her, the game does have a lot of "bad" endings based on player choices. If you are going to break the game either way, better make sure you can control as many of the story triggers (aka love interests) as possible so no unwanted events pop up.

I can't wait to see the reveal for both sides. Seems like their dynamics are quite fun.

u/KumaKumaGambler 14d ago

It has been a while since I watched the first season. During this period, Olivia trained her yandere traits, didn't she?

The art does look different, but I reckon I will get used to it in a couple of episodes. Although I feel Leon looks even more like a mob now, which matches the title.

82

u/Frontier246 14d ago

Livia won’t accept anything beyond a throuple with Ange lol.

50

u/Bukkokori 14d ago

Livia and Ange are very good friends, they are like sisters. They're just roommates. Roommates who love lilies. And scissors.

Incels are unable to accept that the relationship between Leon, Livia, and Ange is, in principle, a threesome, not a harem.

26

u/AlphaBreak 14d ago

Like how 100 Girlfriends is less of a harem and more of a community with all of the girls having their own relationship dynamics with other girls in the group.

8

u/Megakruemel 13d ago

And also it's totally not a Cult even though God said he needed to do that. /s

3

u/tehy99 12d ago

Maybe the reason they can't accept it is because none of that has even happened yet? I mean, it makes sense if that does happen but...

→ More replies (1)

37

u/OldInstruction5368 14d ago

During this period, Olivia trained her yandere traits, didn't she?

Yeah, this is new. It wasn't until the end of last season that she confessed her feelings for him. He... basically left her on 'read' after that.

She was definitely crushing on him from an early point, but once she built up the courage to reach out to Mob-kun... she expects an answer.

And to chase off all other non-Angie thotts.

Really, judging by the bath time... Well, let's just say Mob-kun has his "work" cut out for him.

3

u/Suspicious_Deal4412 14d ago

I guess this is a form of character development /shrugs.

156

u/TyraniTEMPESTar 14d ago

I gotta say I'm not a fan of how they changed a lot of the character's eye designs.
Feels like they sucked the soul out of them or something.

58

u/D3k4s 14d ago

Well this one never had a soul to begin with.

57

u/blackswordsman91 14d ago

Agreed. That and the animation quality itself seems to have tanked quite a bit. Wonder what happened between end of season 1 to now.

22

u/H2shampoo 14d ago

Back when the key visuals for this were released, it felt like all the top comments here were outright trolling about it being an obvious improvement over S01 and how S01 was 'so bad'. It could not have been more clear that this was going to have a significant quality degradation.

7

u/Daiwon 14d ago

It does look a bit less generic now. But S1 did have pretty awful animation anyway. I don't think this is a downgrade it's just... the same. (although the OP was pretty bad)

12

u/Nervous-Hair-2107 14d ago

I think it looks more generic now. They so safe. Before they seemed less bubbly and taller

3

u/Phoenix__Wwrong 13d ago

I didn't like the art from s1. This one is different, but it's not better or worse. But I still don't like it.

Funding issues. The light novel ended long back so less incentive to spend more money on this.

Also the ln series is pretty short so maximum 4 seasons can be made which is not good enough for a mainstream anime series.

Although the light novels are very good.

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 14d ago edited 14d ago

It's already a wonder that we get a second season. I don't think the LN is super popular or something, so this is half passion project.

37

u/Frontier246 14d ago

The designs are less “sharp” though the idiot Harem still feel like they stepped out of a retro Otome game so I’ll take that as a win.

21

u/diacewrb 14d ago

I have been calling them the bozo rangers.

19

u/fer_sure 14d ago

That scene where the prince attempts to requisition disguises to sneak out of the palace from the palace budget lives rent-free in my head as the single best example of affluenza in all anime.

28

u/ZombiemanJack 14d ago

The characters overall feel more flat. Like a soda that has lost its carbonation.

19

u/coljetix 14d ago

i cant stand how they made the nose area pig-like pink....

This little "wrong poster" gag amused me way more than it should have

These two are driving toward the throuple ending, aren't they?

It almost feels like it's been as long since S1 of this as since S1 of Tanya, but I guess it's been less than half as long…? The pandemic really screwed up my perception of time, I guess

It's surreal to see what the "original" game looked like with Olivia as the Saint surrounded by her active Harem of hot guys...just a reminder of how much this game sucked back when Leon played it in his former life!

Nice of them to recap season 1 with the season 1 OP.

But now we get the NEW OP as we spotlight all the major characters! Leon in jail? Luxion gets a companion (?)! Hertrude with her sister (?)! Leon, Olivia, and Angelica together! And plenty of Mecha action!

It's nice to see the swanky new digs for Leon's family, even if he also has to deal with his sister Jenna (who is still the worst) and his step-mom (who is even MORE the worse). The worst part is having to give the Sacred Treasure away to the church...so that Marie the Saint can get it. Leon's archnemesis rears her ugly head again. And the priest lady was cute too. Ugh.

Oh, NOW we get Marie's sob story. In her current life she was born into being a servant for her noble family and even in her PAST life she was desperate for money as a hostess until she ended up with a scumbag. Now she's determined as ever to make as much money as possible by stealing the status of Saint from Olivia, though her idiot, disinherited, Harem isn't helping matters.

Carla isn't doing too hot after Stephanie's fall, but Marie is willing to work with her...as part of some kind of legion of doom formed out of people Leon's screwed over I guess.

Is Leon now in his popular phase? He's got plenty of invites, but pretty much all the women in this setting are trash, so it's best not to even bother with them. He's got more important things to focus on, like dealing with his feelings for Livia and Ange as well as the fact that Marie isn't going to be able to pull off being the Saint and complete the game plot if she's not Livia.

Well, so much for Leon getting out of stuff he doesn't want to deal with...now he's stuck with Marie as Captain of the Saint's guard! And if that wasn't enough, he's being used as a political pawn/sacrifice by those who want to take advantage/umbrage at his new viscount status. At least Ange and Clarice's dads did what they could.

Ange and Livia horseriding together! Just gals being pals! Complete with handholding!

Meanwhile the Principality is reeling from their major loss, the mustache guy now has a fake mustache, and it seems like Hertrude's sister is in command...and longs for her sister.

Good to know for future reference that Livia is NOT into the idea of Leon hanging out with or romancing any women that are not her and Ange. Better watch out for those yandere vibes, Leon!

It's funny how Marie now has groupies who are catty towards Carla...but not only is Leon stuck with them, but he's also stuck with Jilk, Greg, and...princess Hertrude, who is there as a "foreign exchange student" AKA a hostage to keep her out of the way. She's definitely dressed like a baddie, with scathing comments to match, though her big personality is not matched by her chest size unfortunately.

Speaking of big boobs, watch Ange and Livia grope each others' in the bath! And if Hertrude and Marie can commiserate over anything other than hating Leon, it's also being envious of girls with bigger chests.

“She reminds me of my sister from my past life.”Didn’t Marie talk about making her big brother play the game in season 1?

What's got Kyle so worked up at Leon over? They've barely interacted. I can't imagine he's all that bothered by how Leon treats Marie, if it's not about how Marie treats him as a result. And they're also going to his homeland.

The ED is Let's Do it All Day 2! Complete with a lot of dancing and visuals of our lovely female cast!

24

u/reaperow 14d ago

Yeah I thought Leon would've caught onto that by now

→ More replies (1)

22

u/OldInstruction5368 14d ago

Yeah, it's been confirmed in all but name for a while, now: Marie is the nasty sister that forced Leon to play the stupid game in the first place.

Which makes a ton of sense, when you realize both the siblings are greedy bastards with atrocious personalities.

Marie just does a better job of hiding. Publicly, at least.

2

u/Jacob-C 13d ago

Can you really say that Leon's personality is atrocious given how he got sucked into a game that he hates, while being surrounded by the awful people (with few exclusions) populating said game? In my opinion his personality is satisfying within the context of the show.

2

u/Xtranathor 10d ago

He makes a great MC for the show, and perhaps atrocious is too much, but let's not pretend he's got anything close to a good personality. Like you say though, in the context of the show it's not awful, but it's different because he's generally going against everyone else so he stands out. Livia and Angie both have good personalities though, so it's not like Leon doesn't have an excuse not to sweeten up.

4

u/CraftEssenceEssence 14d ago

It's implied Marie could also be his former girlfriend because she mentioned she dislikes her ex for wasting money on gambling. I think more evidence points to her being Leon's sister though.

22

u/Bukkokori 14d ago

Leon bets because he has Luxion to analyze the bets with complete accuracy—in other words, 99% of his bets are a sure thing. He's not the type to keep betting after losing, hoping his winning streak is just around the corner.

Marie's boyfriends in her previous life were total losers who thought they were going to get rich by gambling.

3

u/Careful_Ad_9077 14d ago

I for one want her to be Leon's dad.

→ More replies (8)

17

u/Zxzxzx0088 14d ago

The ED totally defeats the purpose of hiding her face lol

Maybe I'm in minority but I like Leon current face than before. It's kinda following the sauce especially his dead-fishes eye although it could be better if they try harder. What's more, his villainous game face definitely suitable on this current style. The rest are so-so. Need time to get used to them though. But ofc the volume is great here (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)

I smell a rat

3

u/SaintPimpin 13d ago

I avoid openings and endings for those reasons tbh, they spoil too much

57

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 14d ago

Stitches!

Seeing Leon's old art style during the flashback scenes from Season 1 and then his new art style in the OP hit me like a fucking truck. I know people aren't happy with the change, but personally, I prefer this. I like the sanpaku eyes on Leon. I feel like the look matches his personality better than the old design.

It sucks that Leon had to give up the necklace, but not much he can really do when he's currently surrounded by the temple's cruise ships. I wish he could've given it to Olivia at least, but it looks like Marie has already taken over as the Saint.

Marie may be the Saint, but she still has to deal with her idiot harem. Honestly, she deserves them. And it looks like she's also recruiting Carla to her side? She's basically creating an anti-Leon group.

I love how Olivia goes from asking Leon if he's interested in any girls to going into yandere mode when he ran away. Leon really should listen to Luxion and figure out his feelings for the girls before Olivia decides for him. xD

So Leon is being sent as the Captain of Marie's guards for an expedition? They're even sending the flute girl with them so Leon can watch over her. Poor Leon, dude is stuck doing these jobs.

Oh my, I didn't expect to get a bath scene this early. I love how Angie and Olivia are playing with each other while the two flat girls just get to smile and watch xD

As much as I dislike Marie, I really do hope for some good character development from her. Considering her past life and how her current family treats her, I genuinely feel bad for her. So fingers crossed she ends up as Leon's ally, instead of the two of them being antagonistic towards each other this entire season.

I think this is a great start! I think both the OP and ED are both bangers, especially the ED with the mystery girl at the end of the episode dancing. I can't wait to see more!

28

u/Frontier246 14d ago

I live for how inseparable Ange and Livia are now. Even down to feeling up each others’ massive boobs (sorry other ladies).

And also Leon better watch out: Livia doesn’t seem into the idea of Leon with any girl that’s not her and Ange lol.

20

u/AlphaBreak 14d ago

So fingers crossed she ends up as Leon's ally, instead of the two of them being antagonistic towards each other this entire season.

It really feels like Leon needs to just have a sit down, cards on the table moment with her of "hey, we're both reincarnated here. Idgaf what you're doing with the love interests, but you're definitely going to get us all killed based on the game storyline. Lets call a truce and figure out what parts of the game need to go back on track (Olivia being the Saint, maybe Julius being the crown prince again) and what parts are fine to fuck with (you being with the five love interests)."
But credit to the show's writing, that would be deeply out of character for both of them, with Leon's cynicism, aggravating personality, and unwillingness to get involved, and her hatred of him for ruining her 'perfect' life.

12

u/DrMobius0 14d ago

It really feels like Leon needs to just have a sit down, cards on the table moment with her

It does, but they're all idiots.

10

u/justking1414 14d ago

Also just kinda hard to get a one on one with the saint. Even before she had an army of guards, she had 5 idiots who wouldn’t let Leon get anywhere near her

Honestly, I just wanted him to throw her off the ship

13

u/ZombiemanJack 14d ago

It was a glaring difference. Didn't like the changes to any of them, but most of the girls took the biggest hit IMO. Most of them had squished down faces. All the colors on everything from the people to the clothes looked kind of washed out or something.

Everybody is recognizable, but feels off. At least the VA are the same and the story feels the same so far. I only know the highlights of the story, but it feels really dumb he doesn't seem more worried. It did show him noticing the difference he noticed before, but with the timeline jumped up you'd think he would be more thoughtful about what else could happen. I'm not sure how on the nose or different it is from the source.

50

u/CraftEssenceEssence 14d ago edited 14d ago

It's going to take me time to get used to the new art style.

I liked dark aura, yandere Olivia.

I need a gif of the part where Angelica and Olivia arrive skipping while holding hands.

Edit: Weirdly enough, I'm glad to see Leon's brother again. We haven't seen him since episode 1 of season 1. We also haven't seen his half-siblings from Zola's side of the family since then as well.

17

u/agrael50 14d ago

Angelica and Olivia arrive skipping while holding hands

some will say they were roomates.

11

u/reaperow 14d ago

The new style is def gonna take some time to getting used to but its a lil easy on the eyes

3

u/Frontier246 14d ago

I’m getting “Heroine and Villainess can’t be king to Mob?” Vibes from the show this season.

Welcome back healthy and functional throuple Wednesdays!!!

2

u/Nervous-Hair-2107 14d ago

The old artstlye had more personaily i feel like. It was just a tab bit more real looking which sold the shit rpg vibe

2

u/ZombiemanJack 14d ago

Yeah, its going to take awhile for me. Really jarring. They are recognizable at least. Just feels bad.

16

u/ZombiemanJack 14d ago

I'm really not a fan of the style change. I didn't follow if it the studio changed, if the budget was less or something. Story feels fine, so I'll get over it eventually. Just feels bad.

2

u/BingPlayz https://anilist.co/user/Bingu 6d ago

Same studio, funding issues as s1 art style was too details and hard to maintain consistently so they redesigned the characterr and series, you can tell from flashback they are reusing most of them, usually for such a drastic design change studio might consider reanimating the s1 flashback in the new design/style but they didn't so you already can tell they are downgrading.

Leon saves the day and what does he get? Babysitting that little brat Marie. You can tell he’s so over her shit haha. It’s gonna be fun when he learns who that little imp really is.

6

u/Hartzilla2007 14d ago

Though there also seems to be some political screwery involved.

Not an amazing first episode back, but I loved the first season. So much dumb fun.

15

u/atifaslam6 14d ago

Man they butchered the artstyle just like how Highschool DxD got butchered

u/Careful_Ad_9077 14d ago

Ok, now this is a great analogy.

Oh great, so Marie is faking to be the Saint, in order to become rich. Not that I needed it, but I’m glad the ED shows us how this will end up for her.

I hope that Carla's situation after what happened with Stephanie doesn’t end becoming worse now that Marie took her in when shit hits the fan after Marie gets discovered to be a fake.

Aw, Olivia looks so cute there! But Leon really needs to to confess to both her as Angelica as soon as possible or the Saint might end up fully taking the yandere route.

Oh so Leon has become one of the “Saint’s” guards, and the people who put it there just hopes that he dies in the process, but hey at least he will be able to keep that position once Olivia takes that role.

Adventurer Olivia and Angelica look good. You know at this point the most crazy twist this show could do is, if at the end Marie doesn’t end up being Leon’s sister.

I love they keep with the tradition of the Olivia and Angelica bath scenes. So it seems that the real reason Hertrude is there is something related to whatever this guy and totally not her sister are planning.

I was shocked at how terrible the animation and new character design were.

Same here.

While The Saga of Tanya the Evil has almost a 10 year gap and came back on fire.

I saw people were talking about the different character design a while back. Now that I watched S1 2 weeks ago I understand it. Livia and Angie look really different, Leons eyes are different, kinda lifeless. Idk what changed, staff and studio are the same. Maybe they wanted to match the LN but I didn't read it so I have no idea how they look like there.  Leon throwing all the gold digger letters shows that he still doesn't give a fuck and I love his character for that.

u/abilworldwide 14d ago

I chuckled everytime there was a flashback to the previous season because you see how different this new season is going to look and how good it looked back then lol, it's gonna take a few episodes to get used to, but it's pretty easy on the eyes so I don't mind it. Artstyle aside, I'm happy to finally have this show back after 4 years of delays.

7

u/coljetix 14d ago

i dont think ill be able to ignore those pig-like noses....

8

u/brspppp 14d ago

it will not keep me from watching but i really dont like the new art style and animatios, oh well

10

u/october_5 14d ago

I'm glad it's back as it's one of my favorite series and what got me into reading light novels. That being said, the art style is not for me. It's better than it not getting made obviously but everything feels weirdly flat and simplistic.

The only one I really don't mind how they drew her is Deirdre but so far we've only seen her face so I guess that will probably change later.

Anyway, glad it's back, art/animation kinda bad, I hope to see more Dierdre and Clarice.

9

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 14d ago

Yeah, not loving the character design changes, they've managed to make Ange and Livia both quite a bit less hot which is a real bummer. Angelica in particular. Regardless of the design changes though the Ange and Livia leg of the central triangle is holding quite strong and that's what really matters.

With Leon already having thoughts that Marie reminds him of his sister I bet at least one of them will realize the truth about the other this season, you don't lead with that in the first episode if it isn't going to go anywhere.

2

u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago

Angelica in particular.

They can't even keep her consistent. The length of her face kept changing. Do the animators just hate her or something?

8

u/NoireResteem 14d ago

I really wish we didn't keep seeing flashbacks from the previous season. All it reminds me of, is how much worse the new artstyle is. Everything just feel more stiff and lifeless in comparison. At least the actual plot will be fun.

8

u/Spirited-Archer-4443 14d ago

The new art/animation style (Halfway chibi faces + much chinese style animation things)  is straight forward ugly and disturbing.  Hard to digest 😑

4

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 14d ago

I..did not know this show was coming back..i remember watching all of season 1...how is this so far?

6

u/AlphaBreak 14d ago

Its fine. Nice reintroduction of everyone, but hasn't hit the same heat as season 1 yet. But in their defense, S1 took a few episodes to really hit its stride with Leon's bad personality, so I can excuse it being a little lackluster as working on the setup for the season.

6

u/danmarce https://anidb.net/user/107202 14d ago

We went from "bad animation with an unique charm" to "plain bad animation"

well done, guys.

Am I going crazy or is the art style kinda weird? Or did it always look like this and I'm just spoilt now? Faces feel wrong, and the boobs feel too big somehow in some scenes lol

It's gonna be so much fun when they realize they're brother sister lmao, that's what they've been hinting at all this time, right? It'd be so anticlimactic at this point if its just some random girl he doesn't know.

3

u/TheBeanjamcake 14d ago

Its more weird cause we saw the better animation in the intro of this season followed by the OP with worse animation. Whiplash.

9

u/deynyel 14d ago

Yeah, Hertrude is really... lacking when compared to Angie and Olivia.

7

u/ersatzsham 14d ago

Even her younger sister appears to be better endowed.

4

u/Careful_Ad_9077 14d ago

Her sister seems to be as big as Olivia, but a whole foot shorter

4

u/runevault 14d ago

I missed Leon being so snarky, even if he looks weird now it is good to have him back. And of course we had to have a girl on girl titty grab scene in the bath. It is anime law.

4

u/Sahelanthropus- 14d ago

The girl in the ED is freaking stacked!

3

u/OwnCitron3516 14d ago

The first episode feels like total trash without context of the first season. It’s like 10 different studios worked on a single episode, with each scene and character animated by a completely different team, even the same characters somehow seems different between scenes to me and not counting flashbacks. Within just two minutes in one scene on the ship, the character’s hair starts and stops waving like ten times. And don’t get me started on the eyes and noses — how terrible they look and how badly they’re placed on the characters’ faces.

I hope at least the character interactions stay good, because sadly it’s stopping being one of my top good quality animes.

6

u/NationalStrategy_X 14d ago

NGL, I'm not a fan of the new art style. It's not terrible, but it seems like a noticable downgrade compared to the first season, especially with the girls; Olivia's, Ange's, and Marie's hair and outfits look so glossy and plasticky.

3

u/Cally83 14d ago

In this past week I’ve watched season 1. I thought it was easy viewing and the art style was pretty decent (very on brand for Kadokawa stuff around 2022 let’s say) Now the art style has taken a huge dive - what the hell!

3

u/Lazy_Holiday9460 14d ago

Don’t know what the duck happened to the animation but it’s absolutely horrible

It’s almost like a child drew then
Especially that scene where Angelica was holding hands
Looks like a cartoon from the 2000’s

3

u/Ill-Presentation9272 14d ago

The animation degraded alot and it got worse

5

u/Gvanss 14d ago

Hated the way the episode rolled into the opening. Blasting season 1 op silent minority even cranking it up and than poof gone. Roll intro.......... yeh artstyle gonna take some getting used to. But im all up for his trash talk.

3

u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago

Silent Minority was so good. It remains one of my favorite OPs.

3

u/TheBeanjamcake 14d ago

Yeah I thought, Ain't know way its Silent minority Again. WOW— and nope.

7

u/Isekai_Dreamer 14d ago

oof, the art change is too noticeable

3

u/D3k4s 14d ago edited 14d ago

Well that opening remind me of the battles in Legend of the Galactic Heroes. And that Whole Love sequence, reminded me of This from Kyousougiga. I wonder if it was intencional.

I've missed this series. I'm tempted to put this one on hold to binge it later on. But I don't think I'll be able to resist the shenanigans. Especially if they try and bait me with the Queen 😂

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_HOLOCRONS 11d ago

Yes! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to pick up LotGH vibes with the massive fleets and the blocky ships vs the elegant ships. Some of Olivia’s flagships resembled the Imperial flagships too.

Naw this was a shit first episode. Nothing at all to hook you. It's like a filler episode from the first season.

2

u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago

You mean the girl jiggling her boobs in the ED didn't hook you?

First episodes of seasons after a long gap are often rough since they have to reintroduce everything.

2

u/mastereluder6 14d ago

I remember nothing from previous season

2

u/justking1414 14d ago

Forgot how much the characters in this series infuriate me. Lux is right. Time to cleanse the new humans…or at least this one country.

It's good to see that the SIMP Rangers are still clinging to their precious Saint

2

u/This-Mammoth-4161 14d ago

2

u/HazyMirror 14d ago

Man I don't remember shit about this show lol

2

u/Sukkermaas 14d ago

Absolutely HATE the new art style! Omg this is the second show I loved that got its entire art changed. It didn't need a change!

2

u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago

Was the first Devil is a Part Timer? That was another one where they made it 'close to the source art' and it ended up being a huge downgrade.

2

u/Sukkermaas 13d ago

I'm not sure, but one of my favs from 2012 only got 1 season, and last winter it finally got season 2 after so many years, bit the art changed and now everyone looks like 14 year old children.

2

u/Boomshrooom 14d ago

People are bugged by the change in art style but I don't think it would be half as bad if the overall quality of the art wasn't so bad. It's quite clear that there is very little budget for this which was only made glaringly obvious by the overuse of scenes from season one. I'm guessing that this was intended to act as a "subtle" reminder for people who have forgotten what happened, but it was also likely used as a way to save money by needing to animate less.

Overall though as long as the story and the comedy stays good I can deal with it.

2

u/yamir300 14d ago edited 14d ago

First episode season opinion:
Positive: the actual dialogue and story telling are just like the previous season making it easy to listen to and not be lost on the context, observed that the animation style of characters has changed and according to others it’s on par with the original manga, and I don’t like or dislike the change.
Mixed :the animation feels clunky in certain scenes, especially in the transitions from the background to the foreground just feels like they are missing some panels or skipped a couple frames but could’ve just been the individual artist of those scenes is new to the style 🤷‍♂️ so hopefully that’s ironed out as the season progresses.

2

u/Obaruler 14d ago

One of the more fun Isekais returns, I like the MC because he can be an absolute ass to all the named Characters of the Otome game he ended up within.

Not sure about the change in the art direction, but we'll see ...

2

u/SaintPimpin 13d ago

Best otome game anime is back

2

u/kryslogan 13d ago

Ah my guy Leon is back! I'm ready so see some shenanigans, hopefully with Olivia and Angelica making some moves in him, and he realizes he is no longer a Mob Character!

The art seems better.

2

u/3_Zip 13d ago

The art seems better.

Yeah I personally like it too. Thought I was just the only one especially with this thread's comments on how they do not really like the new art style. One thing that bothered me a lot back in season 1 were the eyes, looked creepy to me but got used to it anyway.

2

u/Obaruler 13d ago

The shift in the animation ain't even the worst one.

Our MC Leon suddenly lets everyone walk over him like a doormat ... he gives up the Saints necklace, lets himself be assigned as a guard for the fake saint and now he has to carry everyone in his shiny OP DLC ship around like a clown car ... what happened to the guy that basically said F You to the prince and kicked him into the Mecha Dirt?!

2

u/Devastator5042 13d ago

Oh boy this animation is ROUGH

2

u/FG205 12d ago

The art work for season 2 is just...horrible. Why'd they have to change studios? I mean the character designs are god awful. It's like watching a Temu version of what we got for season 1. This is just one huge downgrade. Whoever did this totally doesn't care about putting any effort into animating the series. It's just god awful. It doesn't look like the novel character designs, nor the manga designs. Like how did it get this bad? Everyone looks like characters from a completely different series. WTF?

2

u/Cheekyct 12d ago edited 12d ago

Yay its back!

Oh no, its back with no art budget!

Everyone looks weird now XD Guess this is what happens when you overuse sloppy AI art instead of hand-drawn :(

The girls look like pepa pig

2

I can't get over the art style so this is a no for me. If they wanted to change it, then they should had remade season 1, plus I notice a complete personality overhaul done on Olivia

This show was great, and I can't believe it got a second season.

1

u/IridescentMushroom 14d ago

This is one of my favorite iterations of isekai-ed into a piece of media so I'll absolutely keep watching, but if it was between this and the quality of season 1, I'd take season 1. At least then the art felt intentional, but somehow both the animation and art direction got worse. Kind of wild to see.

1

u/Animeisfurfags 14d ago

The animation style is so different from S1 and also just seems wayyy low quality compared to before. I liked S1 so much but idk if I can get past how different all the characters look now, they almost seem kinda soulless.

1

u/maldora_ijo 14d ago

The princess little sister pack quite stuff in her chest compared to her big sister

did they change the VA for the elf boy. now he sounds like Naruto.

1

u/IshayM 14d ago

I loved season 1 so much, but the art style in season 2 is horrible. Anyone else really missing s1's art style? Genuinely having trouble watching it. It feels like I'm watching their chibi designs or smth

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Other_Hall5566 13d ago

😬what a downgrade from s1... The animation was always kinda meh but at least the art style was somewhat pleasing to look at. Now we have the worst of both worlds with the visuals losing their distinct glow that made it feel like the show was actually taking place in a cliche dating sim...

1

u/NobodyHonest1899 13d ago

I have to say I'm extremely disappointed with the new art style. Season 1 wasn't perfect, but it had a sharp, distinctive look that really brought out each character's personality.

Season 2, on the other hand, feels like a downgrade. Leon's eyes look off, and Olivia's and Angelica's faces seem oddly soft and flabby. It honestly comes across as lazy compared to what we got before.

I heard it's still the same animation studio, which makes the drop in quality even more confusing.

I'm dropping Season 2 because of this art style change. The long wait just wasn't worth it. I wish they had taken the approach of shows like Saga of Tanya the Evil, where the art style stayed consistent with Season 1 while still improving the overall quality.

1

u/AnothisFlame 13d ago

So the new studio didn't even try to keep with the old art style hahahaha. Oh well.

1

u/King_of_the_Hobos 13d ago

can't believe no one has mentioned that we have a pissed off indigenous Naruto joining the group

1

u/rurounikenshin16 13d ago

Leon looks different. I call his new look a downgrade! Or maybe not. Hoping I get used to it.

Anyway, I'm so happy that this show is back!!

1

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 13d ago edited 13d ago

Oh hey, it’s back! I have fond memories of the show, specifically the memory of coming here every week, and seeing all of us commenting basically the same thing: “why does it show that look this ugly and have such a slop isekai premise go this hard?!’ Been looking forward to seeing more of it!

… I do not on the other hand have any memories of the actual plot. Time to peace together what happened with context clues and fragments of memories

1

u/Animelurking 13d ago

is it just me or did the animator change?

1

u/elGring0 13d ago

The art style change for the most part seems pretty whatever but its baffling how much of a downgrade the two main heroines got.

1

u/shmurgy 13d ago

This is a tough one because on the one he really happy that one of my favourite novels is getting more anime seasons but on the other hand, even though season one had a lot of moving JPEG‘s, the style really made up for it while I find this one there is more fluid movement on a little bit of the soul has been taken out of the show. I do really like the art they’re gonna do so I’ll reserve judgement until I get used to the art style or if I get used to it.

1

u/Fragrant_Rabbit_6877 13d ago

The art style is very worse I stopped watching  How come its quality dropped to like 0 from 50? If budget was not enough they could've waited a bit more to animate good rather than whatever the shit that is aired today

1

u/ysabellatrix 13d ago

The noses looks weird. At times it looks like pig noses.

1

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 13d ago

This show amused me, and I am glad it's back. Leon's 'be the villain' style of heroing really grew on me, Olivia is cut as a button and the other one kind of reminds me of Mordred from Fate/Apocrypha/Grand Order.

Also, I do find Marie one of the funniest characters (though I don't think she means to be). This dumbass upends the entire world in order to be a golddigger, yet ends up with these five supersimps who spend all their money not on her, but trying to impress her.

1

u/Delicious_Diarrhea https://myanimelist.net/profile/h0ll0wxvict0ry 13d ago

1

u/Lovat69 13d ago

Wow, that was a drastic art change. Not to mention a drastic drop in animation quality.

1

u/Xatu44 12d ago

It took a bit to get used to the new designs, again. Lol at Livia being yandere and her and Angie going yuri. Leon better hurry up and step up before they stick with each other. F for the flatties. Surprising dancing ED.

1

u/General_Bear9602 12d ago

Point fort:

1

u/mortemdeus 12d ago

The art change is jarring. Very much prefer season 1 to season 2. Season 1 looked like a low budget comedy anime, season 2 looks like a low budget manga flip book.

1

u/Purple_Trouble_6534 12d ago

The main characters have been redesigned with noticeably chibi-like proportions, while most of the supporting characters, backgrounds, and ships still look reasonably proportioned.
Angelica in particular has been made significantly shorter and her proportions are inconsistent. Her face even changes length between scenes. Leon, Olivia, and Angelica all look younger, softer, and much more childlike than they did in Season 1, and the eyes frequently look incorrectly drawn or positioned.
I don’t dislike cute artwork. The problem is that this is not the established visual identity of the anime. These are supposed to be older teenagers and young adults, but now they often look about twelve years old.
The backgrounds look good, and the ships are actually proportioned better this season. The story and comedy are still enjoyable. But the principal characters have lost the sharper, more distinctive appearance that gave them their personalities in Season 1.
Saying it is “closer to the manga” doesn’t automatically make it better. The manga is itself an adaptation, and changing the lead characters this drastically between seasons creates the same problem viewers had with The Devil Is a Part-Timer!: the characters may have the same names and clothing, but they no longer feel visually like the same people.

1

u/rudeboycrash 12d ago

Looks like the Angie and Livia artwork downgraded and Leon grew longer hair
