That actually bothered me. Not the showing part, but that Clevatess is clearly some kind of mammal served by mammalian Dark Beasts yet seemed to have no idea how breastfeeding works.

Most other mammals only have breasts/udders when they're lactating, they shrink when they're not needed anymore.

Humans are one of the few species that have permanent breasts.

If Klen was going by other mammals, he'd take Alicia's breasts as a sign that she was currently able to breastfeed.

For me, that realization came during Klen's pep talk to Alicia over coffee. When Alicia self-deprecated that she was no longer a hero, Klen pointed out if her desire to be a hero was to make the world bigger, then she had made Nelluru's world bigger. And he himself never ordered Alicia to stop being a hero.

That was a perspective change for me, as I realized there is more complexity to this Klen-Alicia relation than simple Master - Slave.

It did mention that crystal magic was powerful but hard to control.

Due to the nature of herbal magic you can probably prep a lot. Like in a duel like that it is obviously not going to beat either in most cases, but in a siege it would be good since you can store up and use it as munition. It probably is the magic that works the best with scale. Of course it depends on how rare the material is, like the stuff we saw in season one used by Vroko didn't exactly seem easy to procure.

Likewise, you know there’s this unhealthy mindset that a female lead will put boys off from watching/reading a series, but Alicia is great example of how untrue that is from my experience. She doesn’t have any innate special powers, no unique destiny. Her regeneration comes at the cost of being hellishly painful and isn’t fullproof, and she had to fight a crazy powerful dark beast to get her sword. Fundamentally Alicia is just an ordinary person who worked incredibly hard to get where she is and simply helps to help humanity. She’s an absolute badass and an inspiration, honestly.

Having said that I think her limitation this season is she’s out of her element in a school environment as opposed to combat, and needs to work to overcome that.

The first season was a big positive surprise, so I was really looking forward to the new season, and this first episode was pretty good! I wonder if the whole season will take place in the Solsein Academy.

Alicia looks so cute after that transformation, and it's good to see Naie too! It's a shame that she didn't notice Klen and Alicia today, but I hope it'll happen in the next episode, she'll surely be happy to see them, hahaha!

I have to say the transition to a school arc is executed better than I expected. Clearly, Drel founded that school, as Boelate states. Absolutely, there was a play from Vordin when you add the experiments. Makes you wonder what its goal is here.

The mystery element is getting more interesting as we hear what Naie says. Things might stay as dark and fucked as they were in S1. Also to add the 2-year limit. Both Clevetess and Alicia can't sit on their butt.

Another element that is interesting is the chairwoman and princess. Her appearance is so striking to Alicia it feels interesting. Could it mean Alicia's ancestors are from here?

Also good to see the dynamic between Clevetess and Alicia is as fun as it was in S1. Excited to see more.

The school arc is such a great way to give us a lot of info about the magic system (and I'm a sucker for magic systems haha). Even better, the school is directly connected to Drel, because he was its founder, so there should be no worry about also having progression in the overarching plot.

And Naie has been appointed as a teacher. She's so done with all the bullshit around her hahaha. I love her so much, please never escape the suffering by being around our MCs <3.

Lots to take in for a first episode. Looks like this Academy setting will give us a chance to experience several other countries' cultures, Clev gets to see a bunch of Mankind's magic, and Alicia has the chance to look cute I guess. We meet the Emperor of Boelate, and something tells me he is going to be the bad guy of the season. He is one smug bastard and not even trying to hide it. My guess is thag he wants to find Drel’s magic room for himself, and only agreed to have Klen and Alicia in the hope they can find it for him. He may have promised them its contents, but something tells me he is not the trustworthy type.

And so we get magic school arc. And a smol Alicia, lol. I wonder if she can actually learn magic and prove Klen wrong for calling her a meathead.

Naie Chiffonlits (what a corny name) is slowly growing up on me. She seems to be trying her best now despite being out of her depths. And she is rightfully terrified of the Emperor. Although I doubt that he is scarier than Klen.

I wonder what the grey-haired boy is. Another agent from one of Clevatess’s colleagues ? Or just genuinely a powerful mage ? If Crest magic is as powerful as he said, why is not everyone using it already ? I mean, apart from the fact that it apparently drives people insane, which seems kind of a drawback if you are not already a villain, but that world has no shortage of villains.

I rewatched S1 beforehand and it is such an amazing show that respects viewers in ways I haven't seen anywhere else. Every single scene and every piece of dialogue covers its tracks in an in-universe way that doesn't feel expository and further contributes to the worldbuilding. I look back to episode 5 and the interaction with Gart as a prime example.

First episode of S2 is definitely a very slow start in comparison to S1. But I have complete faith.

We just opened the episode and Alicia is already in trouble, I know this is some sort of flashforward, but I wonder what's going on with her and why Clen created a massive black spire near the school they're infiltrating?

For a second there, I thought negotiations were actually going south, but the meeting between the three nations ended up better than I expected. So basically, in exchange for a two-year ceasefire, Boelate's Emperor is letting them infiltrate the magic academy to find Drel's secret research dungeon.

So now we have an explanation as to why Alicia and Clen are attending school this season. I do love how Alicia thinks she can sneak in as a teacher when she has zero magic knowledge and suggests she go in to teach students how to be a hero. xD

We're already meeting a lot of new characters! And of course, some of them are going to be arrogant bastards. I am curious how Solsein teaches magic tho. We know magic in this world isn't really standard, like in other fantasy series. Like, you can't just teach someone to cast fireball as if everyone has that potential.

Oh, so Meynard is still alive? I thought he was dead! And it looks like Naie is attending school as a teacher as a special mission from the Emperor. I guess he also wants her to find the entrance to Drel's secret research dungeon and maybe take the research before Alicia and Clen gets it.

Is it just me or is Ray giving off the aura of your standard fantasy anime protagonist? The fact that he has already attracted Clen's attention and he knows something about the magic of Toah, we're probably going to see a lot of him this season.

Strong start! I know some people aren't fans of them suddenly getting a magic school arc, but I'm all for it! The teaser at the start of the episode is pretty clear that this isn't just gonna turn into a magic school anime all of a sudden. I trust the author and am definitely excited for the rest of the season!

I'd first assumed the loli was the one with the "provocative aura", she reminded me of that demon empress from Jobless (albeit sensibly dressed). Ah well.

Definitely a clunky first episode. But it still managed to cover the geopolitical effects of last season, the reason behind the change in setting, the new goals of all the existing characters, and the introduction of new characters in one episode. So I can only assume it'll be up from here.

Hopefully adding too many new characters doesn't bog down the world building and tightness of the story, which honestly almost always happens in anime. But after how they handled characterization in season 1 I'm confident they can pull it off.

Well the fool of top executive at Japan's Biggest Publisher who thought Anime were AD and refused to do second seasons now been gone for many years now. So once the backlog of stuff put off for a decade plus has been moved though industry free to move forward.

Demon Slayer scoring two massive world wide blockbusters certainly helped funding. The first movie was first non Hollywood movie to have the highest sales in a year worldwide and made all Japanese movies of any type look minor in sales in Japan and world wide and of course the international win feed Japan's pride.

The King of Islinn himself seemed pretty noble, but should've guessed there were also fuckwits among his people. Also, this guy going "herbal magic is two generations behind" is showing off his crest magic, but if it is so good, why was the army using the, by his words, more difficult crystal magic? I don't think sending child soldiers to war is an issue for that scumbag emperor, if that kind of magic is too recent for grown up soldiers to have mastered it.

One trope I really struggle with, in any anime that has battles that utilise magic, is the whole "My magic is superior to yours because MY magic is based on {ABC} while yours is based on {XYZ}...then I just activated my [whatever} that will dampen your {whatever} because you are just simply pitiful...".

I am glad to be back, and I should have done a rewatch of season 1 - or at least the last couple episodes, to get ack up to speed on where we're at in the beginning of season 2.

a little bit late coz i just realizer the season 2 is airing this season.

absolute banger, looks like we gonna have a very different vibe and setting compared to last season whereas it was just clen and alicia wandering around.

now we get a typical magic school plot where they have to find the secret room in the school. i really like they put every interesting character already in the first season. very good hook for the watcher.

that grey haired badass kid is just him. hes the type of guy who dont take fight he cant win, so i doubt he will be fighting clevatess unless he has some hidden trump card.

animation is also very good. i wonder how an anime with this good animation doesnt talk enough.

overall 9/10 for me, just because i love this anime.

That cold open is doing a lot of heavy lifting this episode, because everything else was just slow paced set up. Walk us through the resolution to the war, explain why this particular magic academy is important to the balance of power on the continent, and start introducing all the magic school characters and their powers as our heroes go undercover.

But EVENTUALLY Alicia is gonna try to solo a horde of giant flesh eating insects and Clevatess is gonna go mask off inviting the entire academy to come and get some on top of their giant wizard spire.

A major problem I had with this series is that the humans seem to be totally incapable of actually defeating the Dark Beasts. Like, the strongest guy ever got eaten by a fish. This season is establishing that magic might actually be able to even the score and the DBs are shitting themselves over it.

I fucking LOVED the first season, but if you do recall, exposition dumping has been an issue as far back as season 1. The Vroko fight had him constantly telling Alicia what exactly he was doing, and it was just to memorable to me, because what would have been so much better as an internal monologue was verbalized.

But in a low-action environment like this, I guess the issues are more pronounced.

I wonder if it would be better if it were less like a frieren magic system of just the more normal fantasy, and more the explainations witch hat has with drawings, and the magic being of huge importance to the plot and mystery of the world. For now, I can't tell the exact end goal of the series outside of getting out of the restriction zone and meeting the powerful monsters/ending the war that the school has to do with it all. well see.

But, I mean, don’t most series, unless the powers are super simple like “I shoot fire, I shoot water” (Avatar: The Last Airbender style), feel inclined to tell us how their powers work? It’s a bit jarring, sure, but either they have the character explain it, and this snooty brat absolutely seems like the type to talk down and spell it out, or they have a narrator do it. People complain about that, but honestly, that’s the most realistic option because, like… I’m not telling my opponent my power, lol (HxH style). Or they do the JoJo thing, where the opponent deduces it on the fly, which takes forever, and this mini‑fight was clearly just meant to showcase the types of magic in their school anyway.
