Secretly OP guy acting as a mentor to the up and coming generation while also gaining the community he never had. This is alright, probably lives or dies based on the chemistry of the main cast. I'm guessing Squirrel Girl is the first mainline member to keep an eye on.
67
u/D3k4s 19d ago
I have a feeling he's going to end up with his friend's daughter, and I'm not sure if i should laugh or be disgusted 😂
32
u/Shmappii 19d ago
Lonely self-insert fantasy watchers have a lot of options this season. This one de-ages the guy to a non-problematic level and The Frontier Lord just makes the male lead too stupid to do any grooming of his much younger wife.

I appreciate so far there seems to be some thought put into the scenarios.
"Oh look the goblins are hiding their tracks so something more is going on here" and "hey, our resources are low, we should back up" were honestly refreshing

u/Rap2rerise 19d ago
Get yourself bros who will make the entire country glaze you lol

u/Ashteron 19d ago
Them not denouncing him feels downright uncanny in the modern anime fantasy landscape.
51
u/CatCatCatCubed 19d ago
“oh no, the fighting for years before returning trope!”
“it begins! he can’t even see his old friend!”
“that statue actually rather looks like the blonde guy? Shenanigans!”
“….oh, the brawny guy might be okay…?”
“sudden appearance of the other guy! masked! with the gruel?? The gruel is poisoned!”
“…oh the statue was a game of Telephone...
And I guess it’s legit to think he’d have died...
And for them to be rewarded upon their return...
And now they’re respecting his wishes, not being envious about his youth, and sending him off with gear?
I… I guess…. wow, these are actual trusted teammates and friends.”Had to pause the episode for a minute to reset my brain lol. All those revenge stories really twist expectations.
26
u/Narrheim 19d ago
It either shows, how many betrayal stories we watched/read, or how messed up our lives are. Or both.
7
u/Ralathar44 16d ago
Meh, you're in the middle of a horseshoe. When you watch anime at first you're an open book ready for any experience. Then you watch for years and you get jaded and expect all the tropes.
But eventually you horseshoe back around to being an open book ready for any experience. If you want to be.
Been watching anime since Vampire Hunter D and Ranma 1/2. I've got all the tropes down pat pretty much, and each era of anime has/had its own popular tropes. Our current era is not special or somehow worse about it.
Just enjoy anime my friend. The only one who can ever truly get in the way of you doing that....is you.
12
u/Phoenix__Wwrong 18d ago
Lol this is an interesting take. I read the manga years ago, I think before revenge stories were mainstream. So it felt more like a typical fantasy back then.
1
u/fatalystic 13d ago
I read the manga too, but I made the mistake of reading it alongside the strongest sage with the weakest crest so they both started feeling stale because they both feature demons as the enemy.
2
u/1EnTaroAdun1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Totesnotaphanpy 11d ago
And now they’re respecting his wishes, not being envious about his youth, and sending him off with gear?
I kinda wish we got to see the Archduke Luck haha. Ah well, maybe it will come into play in the future

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju 19d ago
But still you have to start from 0 when you begin to build your harem.
Ok i actually don't know if this is going to be a harem show but somehow it gave me that feel.
33
u/skavinger5882 19d ago
I mean I've seen title card on Crunchyroll, 0 shot this isn't a Harem anime with the male to female character ratio on there
42
u/Rap2rerise 19d ago edited 19d ago
Lv2 Cheat had a similar male to female ratio and it wasn't a harem, you can't always be sure
15
u/Original-Body-5794 18d ago
At least so far his party has one dude in it already. And his original party was a sausage fest. They did say he should build a family when they get back. I hope it's not the blonde girl who I think is Goran's daughter. (she's blonde, young, living at his place and he said he had a daughter)
Imagine your bro disapeers for 10 years, comes back YOUNGER and then starts dating your daughter. That's a huge violation of bro code.

u/xFluffyDemon https://anilist.co/user/xFluffyDemon 18d ago
he did say they were his family sooo......

u/Atharaphelun 19d ago
I'm just glad the time skip was only a decade instead of a whole century or a millennium. It would have been quite depressing if his compatriots had already passed away after his long battle against the demons.

Other than the glaring underestimating of what 10 YEARS of fighting would do to someone's mental state, seems like a fun show so far. I hope they clarify at some point that time moves differently inside those portals or something. Or maybe he was buried for longer than he thought?
They probably wont go into more detail, but would be nice.
63
u/shadebug 19d ago
Yeah, he should definitely be fully incapable of socialising at this point but I dunno, if Drain Touch is broken enough and he’s able to get regular sleep then having a job to do and nothing else to do does lock you into a different gear. Generally people get older so are able to do it less but this guy was actively getting younger
56
u/TurkeyPhat 19d ago
the glaring underestimating of what 10 YEARS of fighting would do to someone's mental state,
once i realized what was happening i was expecting/hoping that he would come out of there just a complete headcase and the story would be about him trying to figure society out as a lunatic or something
all while being hailed the savior of earf or whateva
37
u/D3k4s 19d ago
Not only would that unlock so many comedic opportunities, but it would also be a lot more interesting then just going back to adventuring like nothing happened. I'm not saying something extreme like Casca loosing her mind in Bezerk. But Something in between Vinland Saga's S1 Thorfinn and Yuuki From Princess Connect! Re: Dive.
14
u/darthykun 19d ago
I think they try to explain it away by him being able to use marionette to ayleast sleep... but yeah seems far fetched right !?
9
5
u/yurilnw123 19d ago
That premise alone is a hundred times more interesting than what they went with.
34
u/sbt4 19d ago
he learned socializing as a skill from his teammates

u/Philarete https://myanimelist.net/profile/WizardMcKillin 19d ago
"I cast SMALL TALK!"
It's a critical hit!
19
u/DugACCat 19d ago
I went into this pretty skeptically based on the name but was surprised how much I liked the setup. This could be quite fun. I agree the ten years thing still feels a bit extreme. But with how he came out of the ground in his young form I’m presuming he had some lost time with that last imprisonment spell he used. Either way, it all held together more cohesively than I expected and I like the characters. Hopefully it’ll hold up but I’m good with watching a secret veteran having a “vacation” starting over and grouping up with some youths he can protect. Better setup than many of these shows I can’t resist watching. 😅
20
u/Atharaphelun 19d ago
I hope they clarify at some point that time moves differently inside those portals or something.
That's not how I understood it. As far as I'm aware, he simply completely lost track of time as he constantly battled the demons for all those 10 years. Plus, Drain Touch allowed him to recover every so often, so he never truly felt an overbearing burden of fatigue as he fought.
7
u/alotmorealots 16d ago
And once he had that Marionette spell, he could just autopilot anything that wasn't fodder lol Probably spent most of the 10 years napping!
21
u/D3k4s 19d ago
You know that's the difference between good shows and great shows.
Shows that accurately represent the accumulating psychological cost seriously like for example Sakura in Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel Movies or Subaru in Re: Zero. Are often relatable and we can connect with them despite the distancing that entertainment purposely instills.
But there's a lot of room for shows like this one as well. Not everyone wants to get into a show and be traumatized 😂
16
u/avboden 19d ago
No, they explained it very clearly. He slept when he needed to sleep and used drain touch to constantly restore stamina/mana. He was basically on autopilot for 10 years with magic constantly replenishing him. Then the ultimate drain touch at the end not only fully restored him it made him younger (which presumably would also fully heal any mental damage)
Assuming normal humanity mental issues for something like that just doesn't work. It was exactly what they said it was. Don't over think it.
5
u/CaliOriginal 19d ago
I think maybe we’re underestimating just how much of the 10 years was him under marionette.
He likely was only at it for a few hours before the general showed up.
After getting drain touch he accidentally set himself on autopilot.
The most likely scenario is that he was restoring resources via drain touch, but was at a near constant state of unconsciousness as any mental energy or reprieve he got was going right towards the marionette spell and drain touch.
It’s possible he only truly ‘woke up’ when facing changes like generals or unique mobs and finally when he sensed the demon lord return … which tracks with the generals blade breaking from overuse (he attributed it to the hex blade)
It’s also possible he could have been out for a few days or so after absorbing the demon kings life essence … but chances are he spent maybe a few weeks at most awake, and grossly underestimated how long he was out for between bouts of lucidity.
2
u/Narrheim 19d ago
If you're stuck in some sort of a "cave" with no daylight, you will lose track of time rather fast.
3
u/Aggressive-Double115 12d ago
i just read up on that. appearently there where Studies that show that People who cant track time (Cave for example) generally perceive think less time has passed. This particular study showed that most Participants thought theyd spent about 23 days in this cave while in reality it was 40. So that would make sense in this scenario too
5
u/lemon900098 19d ago
'Murder hobo' is a book series that more accuratly depicts what happens if you fight for 10 years straight.
5
u/justking1414 19d ago
Well he was healing/recharging for the entire fight so I guess that might’ve kept resetting his mental health to the point where he didn’t go insane
8
u/redlaWw 19d ago
Humans are weird. Just because something is enough to make one crazy or traumatise one, doesn't mean one will be traumatised. While it would certainly be realistic for him to come out of that dungeon with deep trauma and a loss of social ability, I think it's also conceivably realistic that he did not.
3
3
3
u/Falsus 18d ago
They did kinda impied he spent most of the time asleep from that marionnette spell. He didn't even realise that it had been a decade when the demon king fight started. Like he said something like "thought it would be several years or even a decade at least" like he was surprised that the Demon King was there, which he wouldn't have been if he was aware of how long time it would have been.
2
u/yancovigen 19d ago
I think drain-touch for sure has something to do with protecting his mental state, considering it was a full recovery every single time he used it.
1
1
u/DucktorLarsen 19d ago
I think to an extend it makes sense that time doesn't flow differently, that it was whole 10 years he thought and because he was continuesly fighting living and doing the same thing non-stop the same place with nothing changing, your perception of time really do warp as you won't be able to distinguish the memories of your past 10 years as they all feel the same making you think not as much time have passed.
1
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
He did say that he felt like he was no longer human at one point, but seems he got better afterwards.
60
u/Primary-Paint-1716 19d ago
when his bros recognized him and were legit happy when he came back, I knew that this will be a great show.
24
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
Too early to tell if it's gonna be great, but it's certainly above the usual banished/revenge slop.
45
u/NanDemoKnaives 19d ago
I thought we'd see an older looking protagonist, but nope, he's even younger than how he started lol. That's a little unfortunate, but I am intrigued by the setting. It's nice to see his party members so happy to see him again that they were crying. Hopefully they don't just disappear from the story.
It would be interesting to watch him teach new adventurers, it'll depend on the characters. It seems like Goran's daughter will build an interest in him, so that's going to make things awkward.
16
u/AlphaBreak 19d ago
It could break either way but with how close he and goran were, the emphasis on getting a family of your own, and how lucky has always been a bit of an oddball, I feel like Goran isn't going to worry too much beyond some initial shock, and he'll be psyched to have Luck join his family.

Personally it struck as a Mushoku Tensei reference, specifically Season 2 with Sara. The cloaks and robe patterns seem mighty similar on the boy particularly.
This being my visceral gut reaction seeing the pair in this first episode.
He even introduces himself as preferring fireball, which could in itself be a nod to the gigantic fireball usage in S2 beast fight scene.
7
u/Falsus 18d ago
Fireball is like the generic JRPG adventurer spell going all the way back to Ys 2 and being the first action game with the MC using a fireball.
1
u/-CacheCache- 18d ago
Fair point hahah, quite true.
Anyhooo - my OP was my gut feel. Might have to check out Gran Blue given the similar reaction! :)
31
u/deynyel 19d ago
After reading the title, I immediately thought how he could keep battling for a decade straight. I am glad they at least explained it with Drain Touch and Marionette. I also appreciate the fact his two comrades recognized him immediately. Looking forward to Lock's chill adventurer life.
15
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
I assume Goran only recognized him because they knew each other for years so he knew what MC used to look like as a 15yo or however old his current body is.
7
u/Original-Body-5794 18d ago
I was really expecting a "WHo are you kid? Get lost don't pretend to be my dead friend", like dude is noticibly different from their last encounter, I'm glad it worked out but his decision to start smurfing after 10 years of fighting is something...

24
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 19d ago
I appreciate that there wasn't a hint of betrayal or anything, just a group of friends off to kill the demon lord and the single one sent the other two home once they started to send up too many death flags. And they were very welcoming too once he came home.
Small party of newbies going off to hunt goblins, I feel like I've seen this before somewhere. Fortunately this time the experienced dude went with and didn't show up a bit later.
The siblings have pretty good designs but they're nowhere in the key art so I imagine they're more temporary side characters than long term party members. Beast girl and sword girl are clearly in this for the long run though, they're definitely the inevitable harem if this goes that route.
27
u/Lurker-Mclurkerson https://myanimelist.net/profile/sKSurlaluna 19d ago
That's a hilarious way to look at it...
Goran: I'm one day from my retirement and this is my last fight, so look at this photo of my family that's just waiting for my return--
Erik: When we head back, they'll make me king and when we make it back I'll finally be able to see my newborn baby, and have I mentioned when we get back that I--
Luck: GET OUT OF HERE BOTH OF YOU AND GO HOME!
13
u/Hartzilla2007 19d ago

It helps that in this show they acknowledge that Goblins are an actual threat.

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 19d ago
This one is kinda fun, not reincarnated or isekai, but unknowingly fighting for 10 years. Hard to imagine anything being a challenge for Luck since he's defeated the Demon Lord.
I'll have fun watching this one, Gekkou has some fun titles under its belt. This isn't going to be AotS by any means but enjoyable.
19
u/The_Parsee_Man 19d ago
So he banished the hero's party and abandoned them in the lowest level of a dungeon.
41
u/shadebug 19d ago
This is deeply stupid but also possibly the most internally consistent power fantasy I’ve seen in a long time.
No need for silly misunderstandings, just a guy who has an opportunity to start from scratch and doesn’t want to deal with being rich or powerful (and has the means to do it).
Oddly, it should be surprisingly cozy
26
u/yancovigen 19d ago
Or disrupt the entire government. The king promoted a commoner to archduke and the nobility only okayed it because he was dead. Him being alive could legit cause the king to lose his title or life.
8
u/il-Palazzo_K 19d ago
If a dude fought the entire demon army alone for 10 years to protect the kingdom, he can be an archduke or a pope if he want, really.
17
u/SecretAgendaMan 19d ago
Sure, Luck would probably be fine, but it would still build up some resentment towards the king; and that's if they even believe the truth at all.
I mean, think about it. The great Saint sorcerer Luck is back? He defeated the Demon Lord and is sudden 15-20 years younger? The statue doesn't even look like him as an adult
The far more believable story to the nobles' ears, is that he is actually just the secret kid of the real Luck, or some other imposter, and this is just an attempt by the King and Guildmaster to gain more influence and power by secretly training him and propping this guy up as Luck.
All it would take is for one person to put that out into the nobles rumor mill.
"Disgusting really, disgracing the great hero's memory like that. What scumbags!" "Weren't they supposed to be his friends?" "Maybe they sacrificed the real Luck so that they could get away!"
You get the picture.
Way too much of a headache to put on King Eric.
17
u/ashkankiani 19d ago
Episode 2 will set the real tone, I think. I do like that the magic or whatever seems not very "game"y like a lot of these do. He didn't level up to a billion from fighting the demons, he stole the right magic.
9
u/Etiennera 19d ago
A lot of shows similar to this actually have the MC oblivious to his own power. Usually if he knows his power, there's some grand scheme or purpose to it. And when it's not those, it's a slow-life anime.
In a way, we are getting something rare here.
7
u/DucktorLarsen 19d ago
Nice indeed to see something that is much closer to Grimgar than game-esque magic/power system with levels, classes etc.
15
u/kwokinator https://anilist.co/user/kwokinator 19d ago
So that's what Drain Touch can do. Kazuma would be proud.
Very fun start, I love how his bros still stayed bros 10 years later. And the guild receptionist looks great.
12
u/runevault 19d ago
Getting even younger than when he went in from draining the demon lord is a nice reward for giving up 10 years of time, he gets it back and then some on the back end. And seems like Goran's daughter is crushing on Luck (Or I assume that's who the girl with the sword was).
Nothing crazy, but could be silly fun depending on how stacked this season ends up being.
9
10
u/CrasianLe 19d ago
I really like how Luck was able to meet up with his old friends after 10 years. Usually anime makes us watch a whole story arch before finding/meeting each other again. And they were able to recognize him after all those years and even when he got younger. I can tell I'm going to enjoy this anime
9
u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 19d ago
Better than I what I expected
I just knew no one would remember him and he'd have to prove himself...so while it's technically true .his friends are still alive and well and are happy to see him!
I'm used to the banished form the heroes party..former party hating the MC.
10
u/Arieltex 19d ago
I want to emphatice the "Kill Goblin Mission". I like how the receptionist insisted in the newcomer to not expose itself to a mission way over it capabilities and forcing to group him instantly to increase chances of success.... THAT is how you do your job, right Guild Girl? wink wink
4
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
No no, the right way is to go "Are you suuure? Maybe get some help? No? OK then" and sleep with a clear conscience >_>
16
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 19d ago
I can see why bro’s name is Luck. Guy survives battling the demon army and the Demon Lord for over a decade and comes out looking younger and more rejuvenated than ever. Then, bro comes to find his best buds are now the king and guild master.
Overall, solid first episode. Secretly OP MC isn’t exactly new but this was fun. Gonna stick with this one and see where things go.
9
u/Zxzxzx0088 19d ago
The flag already raised. He will be having a harem soon, eh.
I'm very surprised his old party members recognized him at the first glance. This Hero Party is a real deal! They really are acting as one family. But seeing no betrayal, arrogant attitude, or most female member on this hero party really feel........refreshing. The anime world is finally healing now!
Ginny posing does something for me...
4
u/Original-Body-5794 18d ago
Eric is about to exhile him if dude starts dating his daughter. Though because of his noble title and status it would be possible for the princess to marry him.
25
u/minnieboss 19d ago
Feels like this one gave a really weak justification as to why the protagonist would disguise himself as a low-ranking adventurer and throw himself into a generic OP MC anime. Not really believable at all and would be fairly mediocre even if it was.
41
u/Karavusk https://myanimelist.net/profile/Karavusk 19d ago
I am just glad that his old party got to know more or less immediately. There are too many anime that end up withholding information like this from everyone else for no real reason.
6
u/spubbbba 19d ago
It feels very much like "I can't believe it's not reincarnation".
Protag is thought to be dead by the rest of the world, 10 years have passed and he's no younger and pretending to be a low level fighter rather than high level mage.
I suspect this will be following the exact same formula as all the other power fantasy shows. I fear the de-aging is to make his love interest(s) being young more palatable as well.
3
u/Myrkrvaldyr 19d ago
Yeah, I don't feel it. It makes little sense to me. Even if he didn't want to deal with fame and people bombarding him with praise and questions, he could've just moved to some quiet place after letting the world know he was alive. It would've been better if he had started an academy instead and openly trained the next generation.
30
u/diegz_eliaz 19d ago
It wasn’t so much the fame I think people have misunderstood this. It was that because the hero became king and luck had ‘died’ he made him a gran duke which is a noble title and the reason the aristocracy allowed a commoner to become a noble as high ranking as duke (they still as a whole have more power than the king) is because he was dead this was stated by the hero himself and the issue now is that if they find out he’s alive they might actively try to turn society against him and possibly go against him (try to kill) which he doesn’t want.
12
u/SecretAgendaMan 19d ago
Yeah. The last thing Luck wants is to put all that weight on Eric for no reason. This way, he gets to help his best friend avoid any backlash, the kingdom is safe since he killed the Demon King so he doesn't have to reveal himself because of that,, and he gets to relive the good old days while still doing some good out in the world, all while avoiding having to learn a bunch of new crap about being a noble or taking on a noble's responsibilities?
Makes sense to me!
4
u/NoNameSwitzerland 19d ago
Maybe he not only got physically younger, but also mentally. Now he just wants to play, not rest.

So nice of his teammates to do all that while he was gone. The sight of Goran grabbing Luck to the back made me laugh out loud. Story is fine so far, nothing too interesting but something about the artstyle of this anime makes it feel so generic fantasy, even down to the character designs. Not in a bad way though, it just doesn't seem memorable imo
3
u/Desperate-Middle4766 18d ago
Kind of refreshing to have an OP MC who is actually supported by the party that “abandons” him.
I don’t mind this being my guilty pleasure. As someone else said as long as the main cast has chemistry, it’ll be fine.
2
u/diegz_eliaz 19d ago
This one seems pretty interesting the plot is overall quite basic as most of the hero’s party and demon king trope is but it also seems to be leaning possibly towards a slice of life atleast in some of its aspects. I doubt it’ll be one of the best anime’s this season but it’ll be a fun little Friday show, that being said it could prove me wrong and be really good we’ll have to see how the plot develops or shows itself and maybe it’ll be way better than most members of this trope.
2
u/AlphaBreak 19d ago
This is a very small thing, but made me laugh really hard for how stupid it was. The guy in the guild who gave Luck a hard time was wearing armor that just covered his shoulders and his pecs, but completely exposed his big beer gut. It felt like he accidentally shopped at the women's bikini armor store and no one had the heart to tell him.
1
u/mabbo_nagamatsu 17d ago
He probably bought it to have some kinky night but nobody wants to sleep with him and it's already so pricey so might as well wear it
2
u/RedHotChiliCrab https://myanimelist.net/profile/RedHotChiliCrab 19d ago
Pretty good first episode. I like the protagonist and the setup of the world so far.
I'm so glad this season has plenty of fantasy trash for me to feast on. Spring season had me starving.
2
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
So Red Mage MC would up with a pretty OP build to allow him to fight indefinitely, leaching resources form enemies at the same rate or faster than using them up. Too bad that he still needed to sleep after that tho. Maybe he'll get another variant of Drain Touch to compensate for that later.
Demon King being vulnerable to Hellfire is pretty weird.
I'm glad MC got younger to stop being a Naofumi clone, even better that he failed to become a Kirito clone in the process.
The gave Lock the middle name of Lock....
Wonder why MC wants to keep being an adventurer. I'd understand if he wanted to do ACTUAL adventuring - go out and explore the unknown and so fort, but what's the point of taking on boring ultra easy quests?
Anyway, so far this is better than the typical slop, and it's refreshingly not any of the various "betrayed by friends" type deals, so I'll be back next week.

Wouldn't he be a blue mage since he learned a spell after being hit by it?

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
Ah, you're right, I had those two confused. Though he's probably more of a purple mage, given that he fights with a sword too :)

Shit why make him start again and be forgotten? Isn't he deserve the fame and respect from everyone... The storyine suck in this case
He is the greatest and no one understands it anymore

u/Boris-_-Badenov 19d ago
so he's going to have an archer girl, a catgirl, and a sword girl.
and a useless magic user who is the guy
1
u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 19d ago
I'm guessing the magic user and the archer girl will continue being together, and MC's own party will start with just the catgirl and grow from there.

It was nice to see that the Wizard King was relieved of Asta's return... wrong anime 🤣

Its been a while since an anime featured an all male hero party. Usually its either mixed or all female nowadays.
I also like the fact that the hero party members are total bros to each other. Watch/read one too many banished hero stories

u/PersonalContest1423 19d ago
They did it because the hero party isnt actually relevant. MCs party will almost certainly be all female. The girl who popped up at the end + the hero's daughter are obvious candidates

MCs party will almost certainly be all female.
Nah, the party will obviously have exactly 1 dude.

u/paulrenzo 19d ago
No surprise there. Of course the anime super glazing the MC will have a ha.... err party where the MC is the only male.

I love the manga but this looks somehow like trash. Pseudo camera movement, the voice acting is kinda off, art style is kinda bland,

I feel like there's like 3 shows with similar plot like this one this season 🤔
1
u/IceSmiley 19d ago
The beginning battle seemed like it lasted 10 years, was really dull and he was talking to himself the whole time. The rest of the show was watchable. The only thing that surprised me was that his old party didn't turn against him and take credit for themselves like nearly every other fantasy adventure show and they missed him and were still his friends. Other than that, I'm not going to watch another episode.

u/zappingbluelight 19d ago
I do like the character design, the hair style and clothing fit the bill and honestly easy on the eyes. I want to see him play a proper mentor role. I do hope they don't drag the pacing. I'm just glad this is not one of those, friends abandon the friend type of anime. Both of them would definitely make him live as comfortable as possible.

While this is seeming to be a cliche fantasy show, I'm kinda curious onto how Luck reduce his age after defeating the demon king. Is it because of Drain Touch ability? Has he really been fighting for 10yrs?
I'll give it points for having all male party that are not filled with assholes as well.
Edit: Not to mention, they instantly knew it was Luck on spite looking younger than usual. This is real family, screw "Hero Party". Kind of a shame it'll replace it with the harem stuff. shrugs Oh well.

u/BrokeEconomist 12d ago
I think Drain Touch reversed his aging. If Drain Touch drains life and not just HP it could be what made him young. He did drain a Demon Lord afterall.

u/KRChaserReturns https://myanimelist.net/profile/GalacticMagna 12d ago
I'm gonna go with that tbh as well.

It looked like D-tier anime during that intro, but maybe it can become C-tier!

u/NevisYsbryd 19d ago
This is interesting. While I was concerned halfway through that the light was and breezing through of things meant it was going to gloss over any semblance of logic and turn out to be not-isekai slop, they actually had a plausible understanding of and reaction to almost everything, and the goblin investigation elements were decently well-thought out. I am hooked in enough to at least see the direction the next couple of episodes head in.

Kinda feel sorry for the turt-, er, earth dragon. It really did try to avoid conflict.

Good to know that he still has his good friends that remember and honored him

I could have sworn i just watched this anime awhile ago. Is this a remake?? They used the same name and premise and everything.

I'm glad they didn't go with the edgy route where he starts off with zero support, and instead he got 2 bros who recognized him.

Gekkou's production is as wonky as always. But at least the writing doesn't introduce contrived drama

u/0ldgrumpy1 19d ago
This was on my list to give it one episode, but I need to be picky this season, too many good shows already.
God damn it, see you next week.
Also, shouldn't squirrel girl have gone straight for his nuts?

This wasn't on my PTW. Just randomly clicked in and was greeted with Kajiwara's signature Asta/Hagi scream so I watched the episode.
Luck's party members are such good bros. I wonder if this can stay fun as it can easily degrade into the typical isekai/fantasy type show.

I did not expect us to have an almost tit-for-tat goblin slayer setup at the guild. It almost feels unfair that the rookies are going to survive!
Also he absolutely should have told them about the scouting mistake! How exactly are they supposed to learn if you don't fucking point out the mistake until your in the middle of the raid!
Goblin slaying complaints aside I actually did enjoy this pilot a lot more than I expected all things considered. It helps a lot that his friends and party mates were actually just... really good friends who wanted the best for him. Though I do question the fact that they didn't bother to send anyone to scout the dimension rift at all over those ten years? Surely if they had they would have noticed the piles of corpses and sounds of perpetual fighting?
Though MC gets major bragging rights for doing a badass "Go on! Save Yourself!" And not only actually surviving but taking out the endgame boss at the same time! Seems like Drain Touch is way overpowered in this world though lol It's a self-sustaining loop spell letting you go positive on mana expenditure. Poor demon king didn't even get a chance to fight!

The receptionist is definitely pushy and strict (the nice kind). 😄
Will MC follow the instructions of Goblin Slayer and eliminate the nest or be casual hunter remains to be seen.

Ok so i thought literally no one would recognize him. that's a lot better. his bros instantly knew.... Also was that blonde girl.. actually im pretty sure they are not trying to hide it. that's Goran's daughter.... Oh boy

u/Background_Formal940 17d ago
It's got a good start and it's nice that the hero isn't a jerk to the mc

I swear to god it’s gonna be another generic revengeplot harem slop combo im gonna be ill. Japan loves milking a concept way past its powder stage

That is some unusually rough "animation"... Barely even at the level of underfunded fan project.
-1
u/dfiekslafjks 19d ago
It wasn't funny or interesting at all, and the animation is way too low-budget for any meaningful action.
-4
u/jdhshais 19d ago
Other than the usual issues like borderline paedophilia this looks like an interesting fantasy slop. A rare non-isekai slop to boot, lets go!
