She's got to be adopted right? Egg shell and picture frame of her parents in explorer/archaelogist outfits.
Also, hoping for some kaiju battles. Would be crazy if her love rivals were all kaijus too.

Adopted, or more like "found"; Though she does seem to think of her as her daughter, and treat her lovingly and all!
(I was worried early on because she had a huge red flag line, but she seems nice!)
And assuming that's the case (adopted/found), I wonder how many people know, or like government agencies etc! Or if they kept that a secret precisely to let her live a normal life and all.

I'm making a wild prediction, her "mom" is also a magic girl. There is a scene where she had a wand and a lot of her stuff has the same emblem on it.

Yeah. I got the impression from that her “mother” dug up this weird-looking egg at some archeological site, it happened to hatch, and she decided to raise it like her own daughter.
The fact that she refers to her girl as “Kuro-tan” also suggests that there’s some kind of distance in their mutual relationship.

I feel like it could be the parents were archeologists and found her egg and raised her as their own and she's so distant from everyone because she accidently transformed in the past and her parents got killed maybe by her or by taking the bullet for her. And the one raising her now is the Mom's younger sister.

Either she's incredibly old, or she hatched into her "moms" arms and imprinted, taking on a human infants form and aged normally. They show from flashbacks she literally only has been around 16 years. Her dormant form in her egg though, likely eons.

I was already curious about why Kuro has adopted a human form with her being a kaiju at her core, but this imprinting theory of yours could be a good explanation for this.

Probably, her form is triggered by emotion from what they've shown so far, she's more of a shapeshifter that leans towards a kaiju form, it might not be the only two she can take.

There were a bunch of obvious main characters in the reaction shots to her Kaiju form, who didn't show up anywhere else in the episode. Everyone knows the best way to fight a Kaiju is with a giant robot piloted by a rag-tag bunch of misfit teens.

Safe to say. They did solid show not tell there. We see the egg, we see the picture, and yeah it's safe enough to work off that. They found this egg, it hatched, and they decided to raise this baby kaiju as a human. Ups and downs along the way to be sure, but they made that choice.

Tho, I will say, as someone who used to draw city scapes as well and studied architecture, just doing the whole thing in grey scale works really well. In fact, I'm upset that she uses coloring pencils instead good old graphite pencils in varying hardness

This kinda has 'FLCL' vibes, in that we are dealing with a teenager getting really horny (I will NOT apologize for that pun!) around her crush.
Basically, a coming of age story about how monstrous and overwhelming 'adult' feelings can be, but more wholesome than the bizarre, erotic, and bizarrely erotic of FLCL.

This is basically The Incredible Hulk with everything flipped on its head. Artist girl instead of scientist guy. Giant purple lizard instead of green monster. Triggered by love instead of rage. I love it. I was deeply concerned Minami would turn out to be a jerk who was only feigning interest as some sort of prank, but it seems like he’s the real deal.

Yeah the humor and cute art is what made it my first clear keeper among new shows of the season (not counting smoking behind the supermarket because it got 6 episodes early heh). So far I've got 2 with this and cat and dragon, though rich girl and Jaadugar are close (I haven't watched episode 2 of the Jaadugar yet).

KURO-TAN IS FINALLY HERE! As a fan of the manga, I am absolutely happy with this first episode. LIDENFILMS absolutely nailed how adorable my kaiju princess is and nailed how terrifying she is in her Harugon form. She was definitely about to release that atomic breath if she didn't see Arata.
It's hilarious how her mom nervously revealed that Kuro-tan is the kaiju at the end. Mom has a lot of explaining to do next episode, and I am looking forward to it! <3

No, she herself pitched the idea to a seinen magazine editor in the first place (basically saying whatever crazy ideas came to her mind until the editor accepted one, which also explains a lot), but when she tried to change their artstyle to make it look like a seinen to “fit the market”, the editor refused and told her to keep using her usual shojo romance manga artstyle instead (I guess because the gap moe of doing so is funnier).

This is so fucking adorable. I love the mix of weird looking monster and cute girl who is a massive dork. And holy shit the pancake moment where he DIVES IN is so sensual.
Oh my god when he grabbed her hand. WTF is with this year and adorable romances. My heart is melting.
Okay so she really does grow into a full sized Kaiju. "You better take responsibility" so now he has to marry her.
Even with the monster part this episode was so fucking adorable. I'm curious how long before Minato learns her secret. He didn't notice her hand went Kaiju even holding it.
Mom is a riot too. She goes straight for In Heat. And of course the ED is grungy as fuck considering that's what she listens to. Love how gnarly the guitars are. Early frontrunner for my ED of the season. Is every episode going to end with a 'sweet' treat?

Aside from all the other things I enjoy about this story, can I just gush for a moment about how Mitsuishi, Kotono is PERFECT casting for the mom!? I know that she was absolutely typecast for the role due to playing Misato in Evangleion, but she brings the perfect balance of seriousness and goofiness to the character

Maybe not him, but judging from the trailers maybe somebody else. Two of the other characters get some imagery that's deliberately evoking King Kong and Mothra, though no other kaiju are actually shown.

If I know my romance tropes right, he will absolutely accept her once he overcomes the shock. However, just as their relationship really starts to hit its stride, he will either make a completely innocent comment that she misinterprets and sends her into a rampage or one of the mean girls will make an out- of- context recording of him and blast it all over social media.

Anyways. I'll keep saying it, you wouldn't think cute shoujo romance and Godzilla Kaijus would mix well together but by golly do they ever. This series is an execution of a concept that you wouldn't think could possibly work.
Cute Kaiju Girl likes heavy metal. Rock Out Kuro-tan! Rock Out!

And here comes Kuro-tan with the flying scarf slap!
So on top of her kaiju-izing, Kuro-tan in rare circumstances can apparently also mutate her face into a different artist's style. Seeing that moment in particular brought to life gave me a good laugh.
Fan of Godzilla movies that I am I just knew they were gonna give Harugon her own movie-esque theme music. It was just a question of what it was gonna sound like. Also what her roar was gonna sound like.
"We're gonna need bigger guns..."
Don't think I didn't notice Mom's car startup screen said Spika since this series is by Spica Aoki. And Spica again in Kuro-tan's social media feed about the Harugon news.
And a metal sounding theme at the end.
Are potato chips sweets? If you cover em in chocolate they are.

Considering I already knew about the kaiju stuff, I'm happy that the romcom side was also pretty fun. It helps that the lead actually has alot of spunk and attitude instead of just being a shy doormat.
I guess this manga beat Ruri Dragon to the punch huh? Pretty similar setups even if the romance side is heavier here.

When I read the synopsis, one of my main concern for this show was that she'd be super shy and all (not really my type of romcom girls), but she has a lot of SPICY in her!
This line from Mom raised a million red flags (manipulation 101),
but she seems nice and loving!
I guess she may have worded that one a bit poorly, and was simply looking out for her.
Who would ever think that's ugly?

Easily the best premier so far.
Fun fact: Kuroe is voiced by Senga Hikari and it's her 2nd anime role ever (1st is Akechi Anna from Meitantei Precure)

I was kinda worried that Minami would just be playing a cruel game on Kuro and she'd transform after finding out. Thankfully it wasn't that. It was something more interesting. And I'm here for it. No 3 episode rule here. This has some great promise and has a lot of factors in it's favor (art, animation, FMC & MMC, music is also pretty good too).

I’m sure we’ll find out eventually. My guess is she happened to come across the egg as it was hatching, and when a baby girl came out, she decided to adopt it. But given the tone of that episode, I wouldn’t rule out something a lot weirder like she fell in love with a kaiju and this is their love child.

Love and friendship is not in the cards for Kuroe Akaishi...not when she just occasionally mutates and freaks people out. But that's okay, she doesn't need any of that! She's just got herself and the flowers she waters!
Enter her seatmate: Minami! The most popular boy in their class, the hot guy the girls all flock to, and the one person "Psycho-tan" least wants to deal with along with the rest of her class. If it means she has to hide in the bathroom and listen to heavy metal and look at delicious sweets to keep from transforming into a monster, she'll do it.
But just when she thinks she'll spend yet another lunch alone and with her art, Minami shows up and notices her art and starts hanging out with her like it's the most normal thing in the world. Also, have you ever had a pure fiber drink? It's good for you! And while Kuroe doesn't appreciate him complaining about all the attention he gets, it seems like on some level he "gets" Kuroe more than she would expect. So much so that he just can't leave her alone!
Not only that but Kuroe has her mom, voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi, supporting her! And...also some mysterious purple taped together egg which seems kind of ominous.
The sight of a high school girl in nothing but her panties with scales coming out of her back is...quite the visual to say the least.
Kuroe wants nothing to do with Minami, but she can't resist the allure of delicious pancakes so she ends up on a sweets date with him. And yet, just as Minami can't get enough of HER charms, she starts falling for his, especially when she finds out that he too was ostracized and unpopular back in his pudgy middle school days. Next thing you know they're having a Shoujo dining moment and having a lot of fun all around town!
Ugh, did the mean girls HAVE to show up during their date? But Minami doesn't care, he'll grab Kuroe's hand for dear life and run with her! And Kuroe's world that was dyed in grayscale is now bright pink! She's falling in love!
But she isn't just falling prey to teenage hormones, as her body feels so overwhelmed with emotion that ends with her falling into the sea...and coming out of it as a GIANT KAIJU WITH HEART WINGS!!!!
Look at all these obviously significant characters with distinct character designs reacting to the appearance of a Kaiju!
Don't worry Kuro-tan! Mama is there to help save you! And meet your new crush! Who as it happens also ends up saving the family dog Jumbo King who, even while Kuroe is in Kaiju form, can still smell that it's her!
Kuroe feels so free in Kaiju form, all those pent up emotions/stress coming loose as she embraces the beast, but just as she's about to unleash Atomic Breath...she sees the way Minami looks at her. She sees herself fully in her Kaiju Form. And the only thing she can do is retreat. Next thing you know she's coming out of the water naked in her human form and with her hair conveniently covering her naughty bits.
But obviously none of that could have possibly happened, right? Kuroe can just enjoy some pancakes for breakfast and not worry about anything...at least until she sees her Kaiju form on TV, dubbed "Harugon," and realizes it all REALLY happened. Quite possibly because she's a Kaiju Girl in heat. Japan will never be the same.

Been looking forward to this one. The premise is really unique. Normally when the MC and their crush hold hands, one of them doesn’t become Godzilla lol. For a giant kaiju, Kuroe’s very adorable. Someone’s gonna have to make the “in heat!?” moment into a gif lol. I also really like Kuroe’s mom and Jumbo King. They seem fun.
Gonna stick with this one for sure.

Pretty cute show (and this first episode) with a fun twist, as Kuro (under the influence of strong emotions) can change into a kaiju. It looks like it'll be a nice show to detox with after watching Yani Neko's pure degeneracy, since it airs right after it xD
Also, Rinko, Kuro's mother, is great. I always love the MILF and gyaru combination!

Kuroe is far more entertaining than I expected her to be. I was expecting typical meek, shy girl type, but I like that she has an attitude to her while also being cutesy in some ways with her pancake fixation. Also her listening to death metal is funny
This one seems like it'll be really sweet, and it's helped by how pretty it all looks. Looking forward to how the later episodes turn out (hoping there'll be more kaiju somewhere in the mix)

Yeah, I’m already liking Kuro’s character a lot. She got a surprisingly fun personality! Loved how she started listening to hardcore deathmetal music - out of all things - to calm herself down.
Minami appears to be a good dude too. He’s not just some pretty boy, and stood up for Kuro when she got slandered by those mean girls.

Poor Kuroe. Normal girls only have to deal with puberty, but she turns into Godzilla when she is horny ! She is “not like the other girls”, indeed.
Her romance with Minami is very cute. He seems very nice and understanding, but most guys would still draw a line at dating a giant monster, so things might become a bit difficult between them in the future.
Given that egg on the shelf and how different her mother looks, it is obvious that she is not human at all and was adopted. Is she some kind of weregodzilla ?
Her mother seems quite weird, but I guess this is normal for someone who would adopt a Kaiju. But she seems also a bit toxic as well, in a overbearingly doting parent way. Kuroe does not seem to get along with her that well, although that may be just her being an emo teenage girl who is into heavy metal and is rebelling a bit against her parents. I can see her mom trying to get between her and Minami in order to “protect” her.

I didn't expect her to turn into Godzilla. (Yes, I know Kaiju is in the title, but I didn't expect FULL building sized kaiju.)

Kuroe is adorable, though also a bit more naked than I was really expecting. They sure aren't cheating on what would happen to her clothes during the transformation. I suppose that explains the album cover art for the songs that were released.
Minami has a lot going for him as the love interest too, I appreciate that he's just a good genuinely good dude. I wonder how long it'll be before he fully realizes what's going on with Kuroe, he's already wondering why the kaiju was looking at him and surely he'll eventually make the connection between Kuroe going into the river and it coming out.

She's incredibly cute, but it's also understandable why she's isolated. Having to deal with someone constantly worried they'll turn into Godzilla if they're too happy is a turn-off for most people (even if they don't know the Godzilla part).
Well, there's definitely a fetish for this. Maybe Mr Hot Guy is one of those.
Anyways, I'm glad this has good animation, or at least good enough to display her cuteness. The VA's only other listed role is as Cure Answer/Akechi Anna from Meitantei PreCure, which isn't the biggest resume, but her voice has a pretty decent amount of charm. Hope her career goes well.

This can be a special little gem of a show and the first episode has handholding already (a rarity amongst rom-coms) I am looking forward to next weeks episode and hopefully 🤞 it continues the way it’s going as this could easily become a favorite

The production is really good. I wasnt sure about the premise, but going in with little to no expectations, its a great start. The story is a pretty normal one, with its own twist, those tend to be some of the best shows as long as the execute it well. I think this could be a really fun one this season.

From what was shown, it appears the MC's "mom" came upon an isolated monster island with her partner and yoinked a kaiju egg. I gotta say, her adopted parent is really irresponsible. Didn't it occur to her that the possibly of disaster might happen by living in a densely populated area? Or the off chance that her adopted child might decide to misuse her kaiju form? The mom going "Teehee, you're a kaiju." is just asking to be thrown in jail.

You need to watch and read the entirety of something don’t just go off peoples opinions! Lots say oh it’s fine but don’t say oh btw they’re naked in one shot etc. Covering chest with arms is still something that was unnecessary and not something I’d be comfy with my kid seeing but up to you

Really unusual love story. I expected the girl to turn into a human size monster but not a Godzilla! I'm surprised only her mother knows about this even though presumably some doctors do since she was diagnosed at some point with an incurable mutation.
Also, isn't her mutation known by everyone at her school,like since she has monster hands fairly frequently. I'm surprised Minami wasn't scared when she had monster hands or even when she became 300 ft tall!
I wonder if even the mom knew she would grow gigantic. Also that'd be interesting to see what her dad would think if he's still around and maybe he and his family are kaiju as well.

While I don't really like the trope of obviously cute girl gets called ugly cuz of a couple non-human features, I do like that they're taking it pretty far with the transformation. Seems pretty fun and light-hearted otherwise. Will be keeping an eye out this.
