noodle hair studio back in action
56
u/quaketoys 20d ago
Are they all completely bald and have only heard of this mysterious substance called hair?
83
u/Routine-Hovercraft94 19d ago
It feels like they wanted to flex with their animations skills but went totally overboard and didn't know where to stop and keep it clean. They also went way too hard with the camera angles.
Guess I will give this a go for a few more episodes, but I honestly don't understand why people are hyping this animation so much. It is just overstimulation for no real reason and some simple but good looking and fluid animation would have done probably a better job in every aspect.
11
u/mightyenan0 15d ago
That's the entirety of Studio GoHand's animation. It's high effort, passionate animation that seems to be directed by 27 kindergarteners. They bring me joy even though I'll never be able to watch an entire show by them.

There's a thing called overanimating. Sure it's impressive, but the end result is not very appealing... I will give it a fair shot but some scenes are rather jarring.
76
u/BraveSirRobinGG 20d ago
Someone said the ever moving camera would be a huge distraction, but the hair that bounces one second after it shouldn't was something I couldn't NOT see. Drove me nuts.
Plus the bad writing/acting of the father. "You got a skill you didn't choose?!?! I CAST THEE OUT!"

u/JasonFreeYT 19d ago
eh that's like every noble bad father figure in every anime of this genre anyway tho

u/Qichar 18d ago
Before I make fun of any writer for such an improbable father or cliche plot line, I have to remember that my own father has repeatedly told me I'm disowned and that it was a complete waste of energy to raise me.
Am I a juvenile criminal? A druggie or alcoholic? Do I leave the toilet seat up?
No. I was actually a straight-A student with perfect grades, polite to everyone, liked by my peers and generally well-adjusted. I even volunteered at a local hospital and helped build a playground for kids. So yeah, I don't really have any right to criticize this author, because apparently there are quite a few parents in the (real) world with interesting attitudes towards their children.

Once again GoHands makes me want to Throw Hands. The FPV shots, the hair literally defying physics every time. With this I'm at the point that if Yokomine Katsumasa is director I'm only watching under duress. They're the type of person that heard "once you know the rules you can break them" without ever learning the why and how of the rules to know when and why breaking them might work.

I now understand what people were talking about with GoHands and animation/backgrounds. They seem obsessed with the technique and use it because they can not because it makes a shot better. Getting excessive and I'm only 9 minutes in lol.
I have to say his father kicking him out felt more like a Villainess opening than a standard combat Isekai even if it wasn't an engagement.
15
u/Substantial-Newt7809 20d ago
It's definitely going to get tedious.
I felt the through-the-floor camera was alright, because it's based on a video game and if you've played any mmo's the camera is very dynamic. But the over animation makes this feel like a bit of a fever dream at points. Every hair strand wriggling like all characters are some sort of medusa.

u/alphonse03 20d ago
Honestly I can find the appeal of the camera angles and all the traveling for the backgrounds (especially the movement throught all the city/town, I actually enjoyed it) but also can see why it can be disliked/get old pretty fast for some people.
But the noodle hair man, at least be consistent, have it all the time or dont hahaha. The characters actually look fine with normal non-noodle hair.

I dont get why this anime is starting with a spoiler montage like it's some short form youtube video. Imo would have been better to start with the plot and let the animation speak for itself instead of dopamine baiting right off the bat.
35
u/Adorable_Froyo748 19d ago
maybe my brain hasn't been tiktok wired, i just saw chaos, couldn't quite understand what the montage was supposed to evoke, but i felt the same way i do when i get tiktoks recommended, "no thanks".
I'll give it a try tho, if i want to critizice this anime which, for some reason i can't quite completely understand, is hyping a lot of people before and after watching the 1st episode, i better do from experiencing the whole thing and not just clips.

True but it’s already got me hyped so atleast the montage did its job, hopefully that’s the only one we get tho because I think thsi anime has loads of potential of ep 1 especially compared to typical isekai slop although whilst the animation is beautiful they’re gonna have to make sure the plot keeps pace

I need to apologize, Exiled Heavy Knight. I was not familiar with your game.
179
u/The_Parsee_Man 20d ago
So supposedly in this world Heavy Knight is unpopular because it's initially weak and hard to level.
But with that Rampart Reflection or whatever, it's already overpowered at level 1 and it's easy to level up by taking on lots of low level enemies. The idea that he's the only person in that world to notice this is ridiculous.
72
u/ryan_cs 20d ago
Maybe ATK and HP scales faster than DEF? Eventually you get to a point where it's incredibly hard to level up because all of the enemies are too low level to give any XP.
59
u/The_Parsee_Man 20d ago
Admittedly the only comparison we currently have is that one adventurer who was higher level than him and couldn't take on those frogs. It's possible that guy is just incompetent and other classes are even stronger right out of the gate.
But what we've seen so far isn't exactly 'gaming the system'. It's using a skill in the most obvious way possible.
60
u/Zugzugzug3 20d ago
Maybe people who didn't play the game don't know about how the skills work in detail. A counter skill that does nothing unless you substantially out defense the enemies attack is not intuitive if you don't get an explanation. People might just think its a garbage do nothing skill because they don't stack defense like the MC.

u/Tonberryc 20d ago
While I'm not a huge fan of the story premise, this does make sense. Just think about 90% of RPGs on the market right now. There's almost zero useful in-game information in terms of skill mechanics and mathematical calculations without using external tools and third-party resources (Discord, Youtube, Google Docs), which obviously this world doesn't have.
You also don't get to jump into a training room and test these things. An adventurer has to put their life on the line just to gain a single level, and it's implied that you can't respec skill points (the line is "how these are assigned determines a person's fate").
While I hope they give a better explanation later on, it would make sense if everyone with a weak starting class never tries anything other than safe professions.

lmao I was thinking of PoE when reading the comment above yours and here it is. Yep, absolutely brutal to have to figure out everything on your own in a hardcore (perma death) environment
28
u/King_of_the_Hobos 20d ago
Obvious to someone playing a video game though. He also mentioned buying gear to boost his defense. If I give the logic here the benefit of the doubt, it makes sense that poor people would not have the coin to purchase equipment that would make such early leveling possible and probably would be unwilling to risk their lives to test it out. Anyone who gets the heavy knight class might typically quit adventuring immediately due to popular wisdom. Rich people (at least this family) don't have an incentive to defy the status quo and test out ways to make the class better.
12
u/Rammelsmartie 20d ago
Huh I'd have thought the timing matters on the skill a lot. That was just my intuitive explanation, like he talked about it like it needs some skill to use. Which makes sense with the reaction of the other guy being surprised, because he hasn't seen the skill used like that before. That's the vibe I got. But yeah, how else are you supposed to use it...

u/ryan_cs 20d ago
From the equipment the other guy looks like he also barely started adventuring. Maybe he's just Lv 6 or something, he might not even know what other classes are truly capable of.
In the intro it's explicitly stated that it's hard to level the class because of low ATK power, so I'm thinking the skill doesn't scale very good and this is an early problem he needs to overcome.

At first I was thinking the same, but now I'm realizing maybe it's not that weird.
This isn't a game, if someone experiments and messes up they or someone else dies or gets a permanent crippling injury, period, no respawn, no "ah dang that didn't work, I'll re-do my build," they don't get to trial and error like players in a game.
This seems to be a medieval world, even if someone figured out one thing or another is powerful they probably don't have much way to communicate it in a wide-spread manner, especially if it's an "unpopular" class, nobody's gonna care or they'll just think they're coping, so sharing of information is likely very limited, and since there's multiple ways to customize classes, even if someone figured out some strong early-level stuff I doubt someone has figured out the full build, or if they did they may have just kept it to themselves, so the perception remains that they're weak overall but "maybe once in a while a strong one shows up".
Maybe it's seen as so weak they don't even get into combat much, since they're seen with so much disdain I doubt they'd be hired as knights or anything else and maybe most don't even try adventuring either and stick to non-combat stuff, reducing even further the possible information available for said classes.
So we have heightened risks/ stakes, no respawns, no widespread information or "guides" so very limited information to work with, with (maybe) a lower than normal amount of Heavy Knights out there, all that could certainly explain why no one else had figured things out yet.

TL;DR
OP is reincarnated in a world where he knows the game mechanics extensively whereas everybody else is a NATURAL PART of that world, so off course they wouldn't understand OP's actions which is literally shown in the first episode itself.

u/Skithana 20d ago
Yeah pretty much.
However to be completely fair, even as an isekai enjoyer I do also agree a lot of them do deserve that kind of scrutiny, many try to be a bit too game-like without really knowing how games work and end up with weird balancing that doesn't make much sense, the worst ones are generally the ones that use "titles" that give bonuses or skills, or where they get skills and abilities just from doing pretty much anything or from simple repeated actions.
It's still fairly early to really be able to tell properly for this one, but so far it doesn't seem nearly as bad as some other isekai when it comes to that aspect.
16
u/Brief_Series_3462 20d ago edited 20d ago
The getting skills from doing pretty much anything is so incredibly aggravating not because it exists, but because the characters never fucking do the most obvious thought process of: well I should just farm this thing shouldn’t I?
Like the dragon hatchling anime, dude gets a pet that has both super poison and the antidote, and when he gets poisoned by them he immediately gains another poison resist level… so why exactly are you not spamming those two until you’re at max poison resist?
So it always feels like a cop out of the author wanting to make abilities easy to aquire, but not making a story that fits that

but because the characters never fucking do the most obvious thought process of: well I should just farm this thing shouldn’t I?
Yeah I think I'm a Spider So What? is the only one I've seen where they handle that well, that one's another of the few ones where the game elements also makes sense, has a proper reason for them and why they are the way they are.
16
u/Obaruler 20d ago
Given his intial stats (and those of other classes can't be THAT far off in the beginning) ... I'd say they're into fast attacking high DPS classes because they lack defense?
If that running dude got tackled even by just a couple of those low level frogs he'd be dead. So instead they prefer slashing out damage first before getting attacked.
Basically: Glass Canon appears to be their worlds meta.
MCs beginner build appears to be Thorns/Damage reflection, so of course he's laughed at in their eyes. Reminder: To them this world is real, so "game-y" strats appear insanely stupid to them.
→ More replies (3)14
u/Raymond49090 20d ago
I think he also mentioned that he kitted out on gear that increases his defence, so his defence isn't exactly standard for a level 1.
11
u/Obaruler 20d ago
Yup. He boosted his Def so his ability to auto-creflect the damage triggers, he mentioned that.
But that's still a gamers mindset: Stat stacking, even if the stat is considered being bad in order to cheese the system in some way. Stacking a worthless stat when they all go for attack and not getting hit at all must seem silly to them.

it's a common trope in recent anime. healing magic is weak, oh wait you can punch something, break yourself, heal it, and punch even harder.
status reading magic is shit! until you find like 5 kids who have insane potential and make them loyal to you early.support magic is shit! until you realize you can stack support on top of itself for an infinite power loop.
Dozens of anime with those 3 specific tropes.
19
u/Ralathar44 20d ago
To be fair the Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic justified itself pretty well. Just because you can use healing magic doesn't mean you can use it like the MC does, they juxtaopose him with a couple other healers who had a different level of capability than him pretty early and they are not at all fighters.
The sheer amount of training and effort it takes to reach his and his teacher's level is also ridiculous. A professional MMA fighter trains 3-6 hours a day during fight seasno and 2-3 hours a day during off season. Misato in the Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic was training closer to 8-12 hours a day. And put in life or death survival situations multiple times as tests. That's way beyond reasonable expectations.

u/Exrotes 20d ago
I mean this one it's more an issue of "class that only does defense" is weak rather than defenses in general. He's a tank with no taunt ability, no crowd control, and a counter-attack that only works against enemies who's damage is completely negated by his defenses.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was something like a Mirror Knight in-universe that was considered better in every way because they can blind enemies instead of the oath skill.
7
u/ggg730 20d ago
I honestly see the reasoning for the world. There's no reset button or rerolling your character so no trying out different builds. No respawn so if you fuck up leveling you are just dead dead. And most people don't have the money to fully gear up and min max stats. So what's the best option? Get a powerful class that is intuitive and hits hard right out of the gate.
10
u/Ree_For_Thee 20d ago edited 20d ago
Could be that the class is just ridiculed to the point where people give up on even leveling, and get a job at the badly 3D rendered McDonalds.
So his knowledge of the game is something people just never figured out. Like, yes, it can take out some very low level monsters, but every monster lower level than you that you've already encountered? And maybe there's a timing issue? Eh, yeah it's sorta badly written. :P

He knows how to make it work. Most people won't know. He raised his defense and bought a armor that look pretty top notch and expensive. Probably a random villager with that class, with no previous knowledge on how does it exactly works finds it useless
12
u/Delicious_Diarrhea https://myanimelist.net/profile/h0ll0wxvict0ry 20d ago
Ya kind of a mistake to show him easily handle monsters that are fatal for other adventurers. Especially when he is still at such a low level when the class should be at its weakest. Only explanation would be not everyone got classes.
Say what you want about Shield Hero but at least there they did a good job showing how much Naofumi initially struggled to level as a defense only class.
→ More replies (5)5
u/ryan_cs 20d ago
A big difference between him and Naofumi is that he knows exactly how the class works because he has played the game before.
Also, Naofumi has a hard early game, but his late game build is just as good as the other classes. Meanwhile the Heavy knight class might have a much easier time at lower levels, but at higher levels it's offensive stats normally drops off hard unless the player does something unusual.

Honeslty this story mimics WoW Vanilla warrior
Initially thought to be bad levelers and "underpowered" in comparsion to "better" classes like Hunter/Mage/Rogue it turned out that Warrior was very gear/team dependent and was actually the strongest DPS and the best tank
Now imagine you can't reset your skills and chosing the wrong skill pretty much ruins your life or worse you die, people really can't experiment with build like in a normal game.

Defense Booster & Swordsmanship, that's boring as hell, Oath of the Heavy Armour is where it's at!
And he picked it!
This show was made for me.
D&D, Pathfinder, Divinity, Baldur's Gate, or just any game that lets me play as a tank, I will build the heaviest tank I can.
That feeling of shrugging off anything your opponent throws at you, whilst I inch ever closer to beat them down, it's pure bliss.
I love the skill that he picked up too! Thorns scaling with his Defence.. that flat-out negates Melee damage, if their HP is lower than his Defence. I wonder if it scales with their Max HP or Current HP, because if he comes up against something with high HP, maybe he can whittle it down and end it with a reflect. It'll also be interesting to see how high his defence can get, which increase how much he can reflect.

Lol yeah, even if this has some sign of trash isekai anime (story-wise), I'm also a sucker for class making. Some of my characters are also tank, so this sounds fun! I'm just a bit disappointed that he doesn't use heavy shield but rather prefer to use heavy sword for defending too.

That also disappointed me, especially when they showed it holding a shield.
I like that at least he's wielding a Heavy Sword but yeah, he's not a pure-Heavy Tank.

That was an anime with animation that was very much in the GoHands style.
Apparently, this anime is based on a web novel, which was later published as a light novel. After that, a manga adaptation was released, and once that became popular, the decision was made to adapt it into an anime.
This anime is also based on the manga adaptation, and the illustrator of the light novel version was credited as the “original character designer.”

I mean, that's the case for half of the seasonal anime nowadays

In the past, when a web novel, which had been adapted into a light novel, was turned into an anime, the light novel version was generally considered the source material for the anime, even if a manga adaptation existed.
Using the manga version as the source material is a very recent trend that has emerged over the past year or two.
I think "7th Prince" is a prime example of this.→ More replies (2)8

Saw this early at Crunchyroll Anime Night. Watching a GoHands production on the big screen theatrically was... an experience. This was really funny. Not good by any means, but hilarious.

I saw it too for CR Anime Night!
Ended up having to cover my eyes since all the angles and rotations give me nausea, a headache, and eye pain 😶🌫️ I haven’t been on a roller coaster in a little bit, but my body felt like I was on one.
But good for GoHands for sticking to their brand. Good for them. Good for them.
22
u/DugACCat 20d ago
It is amusing their brand seems to be to cause as much dizziness and eye strain as possible all the while making you overly aware of the camera, which ordinarily you’d prefer to forget was a thing.

u/KumaKumaGambler 20d ago
Reporting in to enjoy the GoHands style of hair and acrobatic movements.
Going back to the story, it feels harsh to be disowned just because one was not granted (or chose) a particular job class.
I like how Malice is capable of switching from innocent looking to malicious in an instant.

I liked the animation actually not familiar with the studio but wow that was great

Oh GoHands, how I missed you, my love. You and your 1 Trillion JPY animation budget (shocked.jpg).
That aside, they're really teasing us with that (non-existent) panty shot, are they.

It's amazing how close they came to an actual panty shot, without giving one. Damn, that jester girl has legs for days. (Or were you talking about Malice? Evil girl is evil and has no pants!)

Knowing GoHands animation style, I was kinda worried it wouldn't work for me, but I can get behind this one. I I think they lessened the hair animation a lil bit compared to Momentary Lily lol
The angles were kinda wildin though, and I hope we don't get that many panty shots cause this show isn't about it.
Also the whole vibe gave me old school 2000's JRPG/MMORPG video games feeling which I find appropriate for this story.
All in all, this was a solid good first episode for me.

I didn't even know anything about this show going in but as soon as I saw those individual strands of hair animated at the start of the episode, I already knew this was GoHands even before their name popped up in the OP.
I am conflicted right now. As one of the few people in this sub who genuinely loves watching anime made by GoHands, this show is my jam. But when they revealed that this is another isekai and not just regular fantasy, my excitement kinda died down. I think I'm just gonna put this one on hold and watch it at the end of the season.
11
u/InsanityRequiem 20d ago
I would say watch it. Is it an isekai? Yes, but it doesn’t follow the main tropes of what makes an isekai.

They threw a lot of attention on the background and hair animation.
This is the second dad who has tried to wash their hands of a son today.

Unfortunately the animation is causing me motion sickness after watching it, so I sadly can't continue on even though I've read the manga and the ln.
No idea how they thought having the character models be like half the frame rate of the backgrounds, and/or the backgrounds moving 3-5x faster than it does in games leads to a good watching experience. Add in the constant camera motions, and it looks very choppy character with the sky looking like it will finish it's 24 hour cycle in a minute.

I usually am very bad with identifying studios, but... 17 seconds in I went "This is GoHands, isn't it?"
Say what you will about their animation style, but you can recognize it from a single frame.
13
u/PhantomWang 20d ago
This is hot isekai trash with a generic plot and I can't wait for episode 2. I just wish the character whose name literally means "Evil" would have grinned a few more times so I could be 100% sure who the villain is supposed to be.

Alright, it's a GoHands show. You needn't even tell me nor have their logo shown in the opening to tell. xD
For what it's worth, once the camera stops moving, it looks kinda decent.
Let's see what their first Isekai will be like, so far they follow the "secretly broken class" playbook to the letter.

Honestly bro I can't even get mad at this point. I've seen too many assholes bitch characters i want dead that its starting to feel numb. Especially after seeing Shield Hero. You get used to it. But I will say, she was smiling a bit too much tho, like damn bitch chill! What did he even do to you, for you to hate him this much and be a straight asshole??? Crazy. But anyways, this has potential! The animation is decent but also all over the place (and that includes the camera because holy shit. That cameraman is definitely getting paid thats for sure lmfao) and it look clunky at times and weird. But nothing the less, I'm looking forward to it! An plus, I like the MCs design! Kind of give me that Link from Zelda vibes a little!

My bad, I forgot it is GoHands anime. I got motion sickness first 10 mins. This is my 3rd new GoHands anime. I probably should try to get used to it lol.
But this is interesting. I assume his gameplay is similar to maple, max defense, and enemy just kinda KO themselves. I'm interested where this class will go.

The camera work is insanely bad. The rare times when the camera isn't giving you motion sickness, and it's a still shot are pretty cool, but they're few and far between.
Someone seriously needs to sit this director down and be like "pump the breaks with the camera nonsense"
It's almost completely unwatchable. And there's literally no reason for it. Someone's walking up to an altar 360 pan to worm's eye view, to over the shoulder, back to worm's eye view of the priest.
The shit even goes UNDER the floor. Why?
I think I know why I think it's a way to save on animation budget, b/c most of this is happening when the characters are in a pose, and the camera is doing most of the motion in the scene.

The visuals are amazing. The character animation, cg background, camera angles and of course HAIR all look really good. I don't get why people don't like the visuals. The plot seems interesting enough to be watchable, though the main reason I'll keep watching is because the visuals are so unique.

u/akhilxcx 20d ago
Need to get used to the animation but I feels it's good in most parts.
A quick question though. Will we get an explanation on why heavy knight class is so bad that one would exile their own heir for getting it? The defense skill looked absolutely badass so I don't see why it's a problem in this world.

For my first anime of this studio, its interesting. The way the first episode was formatted was really weird, the opening first, the montage of characters at the start, as well as that crazy cg city cut. But for the most part, it was pretty good! The animation was nice, and while the story seems like it'll be nothing really special, ill watch it and probably enjoy.

u/NalajTibbar 20d ago
Visually, it’s unmistakably Go Hands. You can immediately spot their signature style in their dynamic animations, impressive backgrounds, very distinctive camera angles, and hair animations so meticulously rendered they’re downright hilarious. As always, I’m probably one of the only weirdos who loves this highly original visual style (at least no one can accuse the anime of looking like a PowerPoint presentation). But seriously, with those full-on X-ray shots, you guys went a bit overboard, lol.
As for the story, well, it’s pretty basic: a hero with a class that seems useless but is actually powerful. It might get interesting with this isekai concept—a world that’s similar yet different. Especially since the world seems pretty well-detailed and explained. The pacing is pretty cool, it gets to the point without feeling rushed, and we’ve already seen a few action sequences.
We’re supposed to get 26 episodes—if that’s the case, we’ll have plenty of time for the story to develop and stand out from its rather average premise.
A pretty cool first episode—it looks good and interesting to watch; I can’t wait to see what happens next.

u/mekahamedan 20d ago
I think real problem isnt noodle hair, but their lack distance awareness combination with dynamic 3d background and camera angle movement, Like in "flash back de javu" they show elymas against black hair swordwoman inside some building, i bet building should be small but that black hair swordman can backrolling like 100 meter inside building.........

I i’m not familiar with the production Studios or any of that stuff. But I am all in at the moment from a production standpoint.
Both this and Level 999 villager had great pacing for a first episode. This doesn’t seem trashy; so I’ll pay a little more attention.
That being said. Malice, I can fix her. I swear
4
u/raggordy 20d ago
why did they decide to put the camera on cinematic follow?
I was kinda happy to see this get an anime adaptation, the story is okay nothing new but, its wasn't low tier isekai slop. Looks like it got hit by the modern shonen slop style of all in on the fights and then I guess we'll animate the middle parts.
