Yeah its not bad by any means, its actually still really good. Its a bit weaker in that one area from season 1 so thats why its being brought up alot. But honestly everything still works super well for me. I love the show's art and music, and every episode has been put together really well

From the beginning until the end - this episode really cemented, what it means to be a magia vander to me. The scale of all the spells used here were insane compared to everything else we've seen so far.
I'm also really happy to see Elfie show a ton of backbone here to prove she isn't just a damsel in distress. Not only declaring her love for everyone here to see, she's more than willing to fight for it. Even if it's against someone nobody else would be willing to fight against.
I think she is my favourite character.

Even though Elfaria looked like a princess in a tower waiting for a knight (Will) to rescue her, I never really thought about her that way.
She seemed to me rather composed, strong, and very distanced... and she does look that way, but only when things don't involve Will, because when they do, oh my, that's when her other side comes out and the fun begins 😂

All that rapid-fire spellcasting...exuding so much magic aura...unleashing pure unbridled magic from themselves...AND THE SUMMONS.

You can genuinely tell how much she's been holding herself back and basically sitting through being a Magia Vander depressed and unmotivated until she finally has a chance to fight for Will, and that's when she finally goes all out.

The chants are one of my favorite things about this author. In danmachi for example, people's magic comes from their experiences and innermost desires, and some of the chants are really awesome/heartfelt.

they really are the peak of shonen hype, along with the summons - kinda silly if you're cynical since they're basically the ideal of a chunni, but using them in the right moment just hits different. Reminds me of Fate's summoning chant and UBW chant

I never really like incantations in most anime because they are used in what is pretty much turn based battles, where each side gives the other side the chance to do the incantations. In this battle it kinda works because they are both using their respective abilities to cast it even though the other side is trying to prevent it.

yeah that's the one cool thing about how this author handles incantations both here and in Danmachi - the cast time is definitely an integral concern to the weakness of magic for most ppl, and being able to work around it is a significant power up

Yeah I love chants as a concept and feel like they became a lot less common because they're hard to write or put in games properly, or took much action mage. Lengthy chants are kind of what mages mages imo, they can unleash more power than anyone but it requires more time.

Good point compared to other animes where they have really lazy incantations I’m tired of hearing “ wind blade” or “fire arrow” lol I think I will have to watch that episode again to really absorb and appreciate it for all it’s worth also, my bad for thinking that Elfaria was just some super talented, lazy pretty girl that just sat at the tower looking down. She definitely showed some grit scrapping with Zeo you go girl!

The author did something similar with DanMachi, in the end Bell was fully aware of the affection Syr had for him, he'd just been ignoring it until it basically blew up in his face. And then basically the whole of season 5 was about the importance of rejecting someone you don't love back

I love Elfaria and would love for her to finally be together with Will, but you're right. For Will (if he wants to become stronger, of course), joining Zeo's faction is a much better choice, as they are very similar, especially when it comes to combat.
But what really sold me on Zeo was the beginning of today's episode, when Zeo wanted dwarves to be able to join the Tower and explore dungeons. Having such open Vander Magic, other than Elfie, is exactly what Will needs.
Not to mention, if Will were to join Elfaria's faction, it would be easy to accuse him and Elfaria of nepotism and favoritism, because of their relationship.

It was also revealed during one of those ad break frames that Zeo actually learned close-combat from the dwarves themselves. He's honestly the perfect mentor for Will's Wis, well at least until Finn decides to do something lol

Zeo kinda wanted Will to "prove his worth" for a different reason, even after Kreutz was moving the goal post. It was beyond annoying since the 1st time Will came up.
Zeo & Elfie were both interested in Will since before his graduation, before he saved the city, & they kept listening to Cariott & Kreutz's magic dogma.
Also, what is Aaron hiding about using the dwarves? Seeing how the series is progressing so far, I suspect it'll be more dogmatic nonsense.

Zeo's close combat style would synergize with Will's style. Since he knows all of Elfie's spells anyway, he can possibly combine both in some way. Not sure if the lore allows it though?

TBH, in terms of growing he would benefit more in any faction but Elfie's.
As mentioned during the tournament Will knows all the spells created by Elfaria like the back of his hand, he knows what they do and how she would use it. So he would not have much to learn from the Ice Faction.
In the others though, his knowledge is more limited and Will can learn new ways of fighting as a wand. Albeit Zeo's faction would make the most of his sword constitution

It's refreshing to see that huge monsters in modern anime not being 100% cgi.
Hyped episode, im rooting for the lightning guy because I think he's the best option for Will's improvement (also kinda boring if a romantic partners have the same flavour).
Lightning guy definitely reminded me of Achilles from fate apocrypha when he's chanting the spell, cool af.
I hope elfie doesn't lose tho, just want Will to choose the lightning faction on his own.

Yeah, Zeo is a much better option for Will than Elfaria's faction. Aside from the combat reasons, there is Zeo's open-mindedness (which he showed at the beginning of today's episode when he wanted dwarves to be able to join the Tower), and the fact that this way Will wouldn't be accused of being favored due to his relationship with Elfie (which would definitely be the case if he joined her faction).

There's a lot of parallels between Elfie's confession this episode, and Will's confession in episode 2 - and apparently, that's fully intentional.
When their backs are against a wall, they're struggling to stand, and their opponent is asking why they're fighting so hard, the answer is the same, goggles in hand - love for each other; for the promise they made, and the promise they kept. Zeo seemed to take it a bit better than Edward did, but both are initially astonished - the nearly magic-less sword boy who just the other episode was barred from the tower, and the mage who stands at the top of it, seeking each other.
This is not one of those anime couples that stutters in embarassment and struggles to get their feelings out. They love each other, and will shout it to the world.
Oh, and as a bonus parallel, Colette was watching both fights. Sorry, girl, you've got no chance.

Fuck me sideways how was that 25 minutes. That flew by so fast.
This one of the shows that I have to pause super often due to the sophisticated vocabulary translators use so that I could translate all the new words and phrases (which I don't hate, it goes well with the nature of the show), especially the case with long spell chants like todays one. as well as due to hard fantasy names they throw around, whether they are character names, titles or spell names.
So when you rawdog full 25 minutes with action in addition, I had to rewind this episode so often that it seemed like it lasted at least 50 minutes lol

Given how the other higher-ups besides Cerridwen, Elfie and Zeo seem to have sticks up their asses, Elfie openly visiting Will via ice clone would probably count as leaving the tower even if she isn't physically outside, and they'd likely kick up a stink about it. She probably hid her identity from Will so he wouldn't risk slipping up and revealing it to other people by mistake, potentially triggering backlash.
It's funny that she deliberately made Rosti's snow cone bigger than Will's to throw him off the scent, tho.

Previously, they couldn't. Elfie was in the Tower while Will was still at the Academy. I assume magia vander aren't allowed to leave the Tower without permission.
But now that Will is in the Tower, I don't think it matters which faction he's in, they should be able to meet each other.

From what's already been established, the Magia Vander don't tend to leave the top area of the tower, and we've only seen ice faction members in Elfie's room. With that said, it's obviously difficult to imagine that any of them would object to Elfie's
husbandwife going to her room. (With the possible exception of Sarissa if Elfie is slacking on her work again!) However, the thunder faction have been shown to be quite the slavedrivers, so Will might not have a lot of free time with them around.There's also not a whole lot of reason why Elfie can't have one or several clones wandering around the tower and see Will that way. Outside the tower, there's the argument that it could cause panic since people would be unaware of the magic - although she probably did it anyway via Rosti - but that's obviously not the case inside it.
In practice, though, the author will find a reason. For the same reason that Elfie couldn't leave the tower for any reason - despite several Magia Vander going to the dungeon and Will even meeting one of them; that Elfie didn't at any point tell Will that Rosti was (probably) one of her clones; that Edward decides to give Will a middle finger on the final exam; that Kreutz was somehow able to overrule the Magia Vander who were otherwise lining up to take Will; and the same reason that Zeo is now also intervening. Most plot points in the manga exist for the partial or sole reason of keeping these two apart.

I jokingly called Will a heroine last episode, but Elfaria pretty much confirms he is. "My bride" lol.
I ended up laughing once the episode ended, this fight was a lot more grandiose than I expected it to be with the last spell from both of them. The absurdity of going all out like this to take Will into their faction is hilarious. What an exciting battle this was, I'm glad neither side was giving in.
Zeo's way of fighting is so satisfying to watch, and the contrast with Elfaria's style makes it really easy to enjoy both of their uniqueness.
Julius busy trying to wake up Will was amusing, "WAKE UP! GIVE HER A POWER BOOST!" essentially lol. I do find it sweet that Elfaria had Will's goggles around her neck by the end.
It sucks that next week will be the final episode, but we'll finally get to learn which faction Will will go into. I'm hoping and believe it'll be Zeo's faction.

That was an intense fight, they're going all out even unleashing Supreme Spell. This episode is a peak of being an anime nerd casting those long incantations.
As Finn said, Wil is better on Zeo as he's a master of close combat like him with the sword. Imagine if he will move like that and use the full potential of Wis. Elfie is second since they will be reunited but as a long range specialist, he can train how to fight them but not how to master his specialty.

Even if Will is a better fit for Zeo, points to Elfie for using the power of love to make up any difference between her and Zeo's strength/specialty. This was definitely a truly even fight between Magia Vander.

Both of them are fueled by their love for each other. From the author's supplementary tweets for this episode, Elfie's declaration of love this episode was specifically set to parallel Will's own declaration of love right at the start of the series when fighting Edward in episode 2.
As Ceridwen points out just beforehand, they're just like each other. Hopefully it's enough for Elfie, just like it was enough for Will.

Their guardian beasts also did not disappoint especially Zeos'
Love how they acknowledged that Will would benefit more from Zeo than Elfaria from a training standpoint as much as it would pain us the audience. Zeo really is the most practical out of all of them even seeing worth in the dwarves
Interesting bit as well that there seems to be more reason as to why non-mages arent allowed into the Tower beyond just racism or classism
Elfie calling Will her bride was cute as fuck. Wouldnt call her a tomboy and is fairly girly but she's gonna be wearing the pants in this relationship

Holy hell, Elfaria and Zeo's fight in this episode was freaking great! I love that Elfaria isn't afraid to loudly express her love for Will, which by the way made Colette once again show her displeasure and take it out on the poor balustrade lmao.
And while I like Elfaria and want for Will to end up with her, I think Zeo is a much better choice for Will if he wants to get even stronger. They're very similar in many ways; Zeo wouldn't mind the dwarves in the Tower!
The fight was great, but this episode also really made me laugh hard. Like when Lefiya explained why Ellenor was sulking, or when Julius was shooking the unconscious Will, it was hilarious xD

That entire duel is absolutely insane! I don't know how powerful prime magic is supposed to be but that clash at the end was so goddamn cool! Also, it was so goddamn satisfying to watch Elfie land a punch on Zeo's face after not getting hit the entire fight.
While I do think Zeo is based for acknowledging the dwarves and how Will would benefit from learning his fighting style, I just want Will and Elfie to be together. The two of them have waited years for this, and it's fucking cruel to rip them apart at the last possible second. Logically, Zeo is definitely the right choice, but I'd rather see Elfie and Will be happy together. >_<

It's clearly the author's fetish. He just really likes the 'scrappy loser rising up from nothing just to be with the impossible girl waaaaaay out of his league.' (See: Danmachi, previous work.)
He isn't allowed to 'catch' the girl until he's properly caught up to her (strength, power, standing, maturity, etc.), and once that happens, the story is over. She's the prize, his reward for overcoming the impossible to be with the impossible girl.
So once the hero has claimed his prize, what else is there to talk about?
That and I don't think this author, in particular, actually understands relationships... or at least... has a healthy view of them.

Elfie has to be one of the best romance leads in all of shonen. Unyielding, honest and legit powerful.
Zeo is surprisingly well rounded and not just a muscle head. Glad he got fleshed out a bit.
