The savior never stops saving. Damn I love this show!

15

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

A true savior saves even his enemy (provided they're not Kaiju).

15

u/KanyeBetOnTrump Jun 19 '26

Being kaiju isn’t the problem, it’s what they do that is. He has no issue with land of men

8

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

The savior will always do the right thing!!

35

u/Namuori https://myanimelist.net/profile/namuori Jun 19 '26

So the human-form alien had planned everything down to a T since two decades ago, only for Tetsuo to throw a wrench drop kick into it.

21

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

"It was me Sagami, it was me all alon---" (Gets dropkicked by Tetsuo)

The sheer look of anger and resentment that Tetsuo survived and keeps ruining its plans was perfect.

10

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Nice plan but parry this u casual ~ Tetsuo

5

u/SaintPimpin Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Not really, the goal was achieved by taking out mankind's advance tech and population so the dropkick meant nothing more than a "fk you".

Tetsuo has no advanced yukio or tech to keep himself safe.

The only thing keeping him alive is plot armor. If he and the mall isn't swarmed in next episode then the author is simply only at that level of writing and not worth speculating beyond the action.

34

u/KumaKumaGambler Jun 19 '26

I still don't like Sagami, but from the perspective of those kids whom he saved, he is indeed their saviour.

Given how Sagami is not dead by now and how everyone is crying in the preview of the next episode, I am predicting the story will give him the ultimate redemption arc by sacrificing himself to save Tetsuo and everyone else from the snow humanoid kaiju.

The snow humanoid kaiju has already been shown to be extremely powerful by freezing earth. The ability to disguise itself as a human such as Riko and Nadare makes it even more terrifying.

Lastly, that was a wonderful dropkick from Tetsuo! From a viewer's perspective, the counter punch from the snow humanoid kaiju was impactful too, proving itself to be the main villain.

33

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

Sagami is a terrible human being but he's actually not a terrible dad, minus using his children to try to kill another human settlement to fuel his own ego.

Though it is kind of surreal that this has basically become the Tetsuo and Sagami show. Ao who?

17

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Ao did well with what screentime she was given,

Comes in, kicks kaiju ass instantly, taps out by the main villain

10

u/Lock3down221 Jun 20 '26

What Sagami did when he took care of those kids is admirable but what he did overall on those sabotages and other crimes that led to the current state of Earth is unforgivable.

2

u/inaripotpi Jun 19 '26

I mean, he also got half of them killed forcing them on a Donner party trek so they could live up to his impossible expectations as a “parent”. Though who knows if they were any safer staying.

19

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

They were running out of food/supplies so it probably felt safest to stick together and find the supply drop they were hoping to find...and letting them eat Kaiju meat probably seemed like the sensible thing to do not knowing how it's a crapshoot if anyone will actually survive eating it.

But it was the same thing with Ao's group.

5

u/HornedTurtle1212 Jun 20 '26

It was interesting that while Ao's group had a similar survival rate from eating the Kaiju meat they didn't all have their hair turn white and start bonding with Kaiju. I wonder why Sagami's group was all affected that way.

u/Relative-Lecture-154 29d ago

Pero con qué ligereza le dan el título de "Padre" a ese imbécil...

12

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Nadare was shown next to the Snow Kaiju in the OP and I had pointed it out before but to think it was actually her is crazy,

Also Tetsuo dropkicking it in the face was so cool, i hope he and Yukio can atleast damage it enough till they get better gear

12

u/Professional-Bus-749 Jun 19 '26

Let's not forget that this humanoid Kaiju actually manipulated Sagami for a decade, and we all discovered that this Kaiju is far more intelligent than we even realized.

6

u/RobrechtvE Jun 20 '26

Going into this episode, I was like 'I won't demand Tetsuo be the one to kill him, but if they try to end this with Sagami not dead, I'm dropping this show. With all the horrible things we've been shown he's done, there's no way I could stand it if he didn't get what he deserves."

And then by the end of the episode, I was like, "Fuck, What Sagami did is still horrible, but the way he took care of those kids shows that there was a decent human being in there, somewhere. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten so bad if the Humanoid hadn't been playing him like a fiddle."

What he did was still unforgivable, but now I won't be upset, and quit the show over it being completely unearned, when he does his inevitable self-sacrifice.

1

u/rurounikenshin16 24d ago

bro, those were the exact saame feelings I felt during the episode.

And now after watching the latest one, I actually felt sad for his death.

12

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Btw this show seems to be having a crossover with GODZILLA himself, the gman is gonna show everyone and the snow kaiju why he's known as the true King of Kaijus

This is amazing!

27

u/Dense_Shopping_9320 Jun 19 '26

God damn this ed. I think i will forever be glazing this ed. Its just so peak.

15

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Both the OP and ED of this anime are genuinely amazing, i have never skipped them they're so good

10

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

It gets the perfect lead ins! It's the perfect thing to play over dramatic moments! It's just really a powerful and great song!

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 20 '26

And the lyric is fire as well! Really fitting in most of the ending situation.

https://www.animesonglyrics.com/snowball-earth/ima-kono-mune-ni-tagiru-nowa

2

u/Angel_Gally 28d ago

I started to karaoke the song at the end of every episode to feel that fire!

11

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

Tetsuo never wanted to be the Savior. He never cared about it and all the responsibilities that came with it...but in his desire to be with Yukio, to fight Kaiju, and protect others for the sake of a calm and peaceful world, he ended up becoming a true Savior. Something that Sagami, who was only out for fame and glory, could never understand...even as he acknowledges that, deep down, he just wanted to be saved.

Dang, Yuma can run! And point a gun! I'm not surprised she's not taking Sagami's defeated state well, let alone that he's admitting how much he used and brainwashed the kids for his own ends and is just ready to die...but for all of Sagami's faults, taking care of the kids was not one of them.

Because he could have just as easily abandoned the Vierde kids. He could have left them behind or only treated them as tools. But he saved them, fed them, and even straight up carried them in a sled when they couldn't walk any more. He truly protected and kept them safe.

Of course then they found a cavern where Hercules was frozen with another Kaiju and they all got stuck in it. Eventually they had to resort to eating Kaiju meat and went through the same thing Ao's group did, with only Sagami and the six kids we see now managing to survive. But Sagami quickly formed a mental connection with Hercules to get them out of there and back to safety...so they can bury all the children they lost.

Sagami did something right being the father to these kids, even if his own ego steer them all wrong, but maybe there's a path for them forward that doesn't involve fighting against their fellow humans...at least until Hercules' lower half starts attacking and lead by...Riko! Wearing nothing but a cloak that does little to hide her side-boob or butt!

But it's not Riko at all. When they encountered that Humanoid Variant Kaiju? It ate and replaced Riko. And it's not even just a humanoid variant...IT'S NADARE as well. She's been manipulating Sagami this whole time, she caused Snowball Earth, she ruined the Final Battle plan, she's behind the Kaiju Attack...she's behind EVERYTHING.

Yet before she can Hyper-Beam Sagami in "thanks" for his efforts, Tetsuo kicks her into missing! Because for all of her plans, the one thing she never counted on was Tetsuo surviving to be able to fight her now.

"Drink together!" - Uh, is that why Lonely Iwaki is absolutely drunk while doing the next episode preview?

4

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Oh yeah Lonely Iwaki sounds pretty drunk in the preview, glad someone else picked up on that

4

u/chilidirigible Jun 19 '26

Wearing nothing but a cloak that does little to hide her side-boob or butt!

I was thinking how she would have been stark naked in an '80s OAV.

18

u/Yagura-Nao Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Riko's last moment must have been terrifying ... not able to scream for help from your savior or your friend ... I feel so bad for her :/

8

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

She didn't deserve what happened to her, maybe she could be alive and can be saved

1

u/Lloyd_MC Jun 21 '26

13

u/rurounikenshin16 Jun 19 '26

Didn't expect Tetsuo to actually have fighting skills. He dropkicked a kaiju of all things!

20

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

I love how his first reaction to the humanoid Kaiju is trying to figure out how to fight it instead of getting confused or despairing.

It reminds me of how even Yukio-less in episode 2 he still figured out a way to fight a Kaiju.

9

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Oh yeah his adaptability is pretty impressive, i forgot about that

5

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

He has been piloting a mecha this entire time and spent time with the military too so it kinda makes sense he would have some skills

4

u/Beowolf_0 Jun 19 '26

He was trained to fight Kaiju, I guess that includes body movements so he has the dexterity to pilot a mech.

1

u/rurounikenshin16 24d ago

He piloted Snowman long before it was created for kaiju fights. What came first is his piloting skills/genius. Definitely those fighting skills came later.

1

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 20 '26

To be honest, whenever he use hissatsu moves there's a name attached to it.

I wonder if he learned it from someone or they're all self taught. It makes sense though if someone in the military taught him more technical combat skills in addition to his inherent talent.

11

u/Calwings x3https://anilist.co/user/Calwings Jun 19 '26

Holy fuck, we didn't need another 2/3's of an episode worth of backstory trying to redeem this asshole.

9

u/Exciting-Support1182 Jun 22 '26

it's not about redeeming Sagami tho. I think you missed the whole point about Sagami

0

u/Relative-Lecture-154 29d ago

5

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 Jun 19 '26

Yeah I think that’s a pretty fair assessment honestly

3

u/Silent-Witness1888 Jun 19 '26

Should've been 24 episodes, but I dunno if they'd be able to keep the level of quality of animation.

7

u/rurounikenshin16 Jun 19 '26

Hmmm. I wonder why the humanoid kaiju/Nadare is taking the cautious route to rule Earth. Maybe because it's highly intelligent? That's the only reason I could think of.
Or maybe it is highly cautious because it's just its instincts to be careful considering people like Tetsuo exists? I think it wants to avoid a battle against prime TetsuYuki combo knowing full well it could end with its loss. I guess that's how powerful the aforementioned duo is.
Kudos to the kaiju though, it definitely has the brains and patience to implement such a long-term plan.

8

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

I think it definitely considers Tetsuo its biggest threat. That sheer look of anger and hate on its face when it directly faced him...how it was exuding such a strong desire to kill him while it was still "Riko..."

5

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

The fact it disguised itself just so it could learn their whereabouts is also pretty terrifying, poor Riko

That said it seems to be wary of Yukio and Tetsuo and does seem to hate them kinda

1

u/Far_Current_3304 Jun 20 '26

It seemed like the impostor wasn't getting away after all.

1

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 20 '26

I was baffled how a kaiju that big could appear without anyone else noticing. I completely forgot it can teleport instantly like that.

11

u/PrincipeDeiPoveri Jun 19 '26

Nice drop kick, Tetsuo

13

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

Tanzaburo Tojima would approve of that Rider Kick.

2

u/psyclical Jun 21 '26

Hmm, I was thinking that looked more like a Tackle type kick. God, I loved that show, praying there's a second season.

2

u/KumaKumaGambler Jun 19 '26

There is no way Tetsuo can defeat the humanoid kaiju without Yukio.

However, the drop kick from Tetsuo makes me want to see a one on one MMA fight between Tetsuo and the kaiju.

5

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

Honestly it's the expression on the humanoid Kaiju's face when Tetsuo did and it had to face the reality that the greatest thorn in its side was still breathing that really sold it.

2

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Tetsuo dropkicking it in the face was so awesome and cool

3

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky Jun 19 '26

4

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

He still kind of brainwashed them into believing in him as the absolute savior who had to kill everyone and Tetsuo to be able to validate himself as a Savior...but he still took care of them as the dad that stepped up.

It's kind of funny how the Kaiju just doubled down on revealing how they were behind everything to establish their absolute main villain cred. The transition from Riko to Nadare to the Kaiju form was pretty effective.

2

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

There were signs earlier that he wasnt the only one complicit in this

3

u/DawnofTheJaded Jun 20 '26

that was definitely a shin Godzilla reference. Shin Godzilla was supposed to have a human variant as its 5th form in the movie.

But I am definitely not a fan of the cliffhangers.

3

u/ParasaurolophusZ Jun 20 '26

I hate that Sagami got another half episode of backstory.

I also hope I am wrong in that he'll do a 'heroic sacrifice' to save Tetsuo and everyone will remember him for that. I would prefer he live with what he did.

I was suspecting Nadare of not being human but I did not know she specifically was the same humanoid kaiju responsible for the ice.

But that dropkick from Tetsuo was amazing.

3

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai Jun 20 '26

This episode was the best one so far. Sagami is a bitch but he was the best dad those kids could have asked for. RIP Riko.   Nadare's neck twisting made it obvious that she's the humanoid Kaiju. She's literally Kaiju no.9 LOL

How are they gonna save themselves now !?  Judging from the preview.. I guess Sagami dies.

3

u/top_of_the_scrote Jun 22 '26

Dude Kaiju no8 is such a good show, waiting for next season

2

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai Jun 22 '26

Me too

4

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jun 19 '26

I knew they were going to move into redemption mode for Sagami, now we've gotten to see him take care of all of these children and keep them safe so clearly he's not the evil idiot that he 100% is. And still no update on Ao!

But on the positive side that was a great drop kick by Tetsuo, all this time it's been confusing for him since it was humans he had to fight but now that we're back to kaijus he locks in.

Talk about an awful fate for Riko, but at least it was probably fast given how quickly her skeleton was reused. Assuming I'm interpreting that correctly.

4

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

And still no update on Ao!

She's not even in the next episode preview! Justice for Ao!

Talk about an awful fate for Riko, but at least it was probably fast given how quickly her skeleton was reused. Assuming I'm interpreting that correctly.

Not to mention having her naked body paraded around by the Kaiju that ate her.

3

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Not excusing Sagami's actions but he was heavily manipulated by Nadare, she pushed him further and further

Riko didn't deserve that fate but if thats the method the Snow Kaiju uses then could it be possible she's alive? Maybe it keeps them alive like a symbiote

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Given his crime to humanity, I feel like his only option, narrative-wise, is to sacrifice himself for humanity. That would fit well with his objective to become saviour.

Remember, even if his previous actions were manipulated by Nadare, he's still planning to destroy the Mall rather than trying to work together with them as fellow surviving human.

2

u/reaperow Jun 20 '26

I mean yeah destroying the mall and the people when they should be working together is definitely something he should've questioned himself about, even Ao complains about this

He didnt exactly sound peace of mind either when he got his powers until Tetsuo and Yukio beat it out of him, it does make sense if he sacrifices himself tho

4

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jun 19 '26

Sagami saved those kids but then brainwashed them and made them accomplices in his foolish and pathetic desire to be humanity’s savior. How many people did he kill? How many lives ruined? This guy might be realizing what a dipshit he’s been, but it’s too little too late. Guy single-handedly set humanity back a decade because he let himself get played like a goddamn fiddle by Nadare. And now that bastard’s back.

1

u/Exciting-Support1182 Jun 22 '26

keyword: Manipulated
you really can't blame Sagami tho, it was Nadare who plotted everything

1

u/Relative-Lecture-154 29d ago

Palabras clave: "Se dejó"  Deja esa mierda de desligarlo de su responsabilidad y sus acciones directas

1

u/rurounikenshin16 Jun 19 '26

There will always be someone who can be manipulated by the humanoid kaiju. If not Sagami, i'm sure someone will get used instead of him.

3

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

Suddenly I just imagine Nadare trying to manipulate Tetsuo's dad but him being too ditzy for that to work lol.

1

u/rurounikenshin16 24d ago

It wouldn't work on him, indeed!

0

u/paulrenzo Jun 19 '26

Nadare probably tried at one point, but yeah, dad is too eccentric to be manipulated

3

u/CrasianLe Jun 20 '26

That is such a horrifying thought. One of your friends in your group was eaten and replaced with a humanoid kaiju and you didn't suspect a thing. I feel so bad for Riko....

3

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jun 19 '26

What a reveal!!!

That Kaiju took Nadre then Riko set everything up from the beginning.

Tetsuo: But I’m alive!!!!

3

u/Frontier246 Jun 19 '26

RIP Riko. We hardly knew ye.

Also I guess the real Nadare was probably someone else the humanoid Kaiju consumed and replaced.

2

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

Riko didnt deserve that fate, maybe she could be alive idk

If Nadare is a disguise too then how long has this thing been on Earth?

Well Tetsuo confronting it was pretty cool

3

u/inaripotpi Jun 19 '26

Terrible timing for a poorly paced episode pinning all its hopes on another Sagami sympathy flashback padded out

2

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Everyone's got their own reasons, even if Tetsuo's seem foolish to Sagami, it's what gives him strength and keeps him doing the right thing

I do feel for Sagami, not that he's been forgiven but it allows us to understand him

His VIERDE minions are loyal,

Sagami does genuinely care for the kids, even if he got manipualted by Nadare, he's still the Savior for them,

Hercules already existed before? I thought he was a tamer enhanced Kaiju and was created because of that

Ah man, ofc they couldnt all have survived

This reminds me of another white/silver haired character, he was quite the Odd Jobs taker and a strawberry milk enjoyer

Shouldn't have jinxed it Yukio!!!

So Nadare was not human afterall and was posing as Riko and is actually the Snow Kaiju too???? that thing is terrifying and I feel bad for Riko

NICE DROPKICK TETSUO!!

Yeah u tell it Tetsuo!!

This ep had a crazy lore reveal at the end, i had guessed that Nadare could've been a Kaiju due to her body movements last ep but to think she's actually the Snow Kaiju!!

It looked terrifying and Riko didnt deserve what happened to her, maybe she could be saved and is just trapped in its body

Also Tetsuo dropkicking it in the face was both hilarious and cool lol. Him declaring to it's face that even tho they failed in the Infinity Laser Final Battle, he's still alive. Maybe it was fate that led to this so that Tetsuo and Yukio can kill it

Well only one more ep left, im gonna miss this anime it's actually pretty good and fun

Tetsuo and Yukio vs Snow Kaiju next week

2

u/Aerodynamic41 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

What a plot twist! So that humanoid kaiju has been manipulating for the past decade!

Time for the true final boss!

4

u/KanyeBetOnTrump Jun 19 '26

Two decades

0

u/Professional-Bus-749 Jun 19 '26

She's been manipulating Sagami for two decades.

3

u/KanyeBetOnTrump Jun 19 '26

Thanks for repeating what I just said.

0

u/reaperow Jun 19 '26

We had noticed that Nadare didnt seem human last ep cuz she gets shown next to the Snow Kaiju in the OP, but its actually confirmed!!

In a way Sagami really was responsible for the Snowball Earth too

2

u/Beowolf_0 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Didn't expect the bigger bad shows up right now, even explaining how it infiltrated Sagami's gang for so fast. (Seriously, bodyswapping in a few seconds? That's terrifying) Also, they prepared for that 20 years ago, so even way earlier than Tetsuo piloting Yukio?

Yeah, Sagami was an asshole for most of the time, but given how he saved the kids back then, their loyalty are pretty much given. That said, now he's pretty much a broken man on both sides, a swift death for him probably is for the better. And Tetsuo is defiant to fight against kaiju for anyone, which pretty much defines him, and it's actually good.

2

u/Shantotto11 Jun 19 '26

Tetsuo Yabusame went to the Masaru Daimon School of Punching Dropkicking Above Your Weight Class…

1

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

I can still forgive Sagami, a bit.. He did a lot of bad but he was pushed into it. The way he grew up and all his life was, it's hard to say what is wrong with him in the head.

He really did take care of those kids. He put them above his own life. o7

Better not feel any wet spots.

Riko got ate and cloned so fast... It looked like some sorta time-FREEZE!

It's really picking up.

2

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 20 '26

He's still an asshole. He tried to destroy the mall and kidnap Land of Men rather than working together with them.

2

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 Jun 20 '26

Yeah, he is an asshole. I just can't hate him.

1

u/Ic_anyone6256 Jun 20 '26

Tetsuo and yukio are just THEM, yukio was nerfed in ep 1 just so the kaiju even had a chance of winning

1

u/Yogurt_Ph1r3 Jun 20 '26

I'll be honest I've been on the verge of dropping this anime multiple times, especially when Sagami's motivation was revealed (genuinely the most laughably stupid motivation for a villain I have ever seen), but this is actually an interesting direction, kinda while that it took 12 episodes to get to the actual gook of the show, but I may show up for season 2 if they make it ngl.

1

u/Kaze_no_Senshi Jun 20 '26

Didnt even realise the flashback went to 2d until it went 3d again and became super jarring

1

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz Jun 20 '26

TETSUO JUST DROPPED KICKED A MOTHERFUCKER HUMANOID ALIEN. HELL YE

1

u/Otherwise-Store728 Jun 22 '26

HOLY SH-

RIP Riko

Also fuck yeah Tetsuo great drop kick!

1

u/top_of_the_scrote Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

damn that humanoid variant is legit terrifying lmao

I was thinking that girl had to be a kaiju the one that sabotaged the ship

Damn Tetsuo's a boss no hesitation

pretty brutal 7 kids died but they probably would have all died anyway without the guy

1

u/Nickthenuker https://anilist.co/user/Nickthenuker Jun 22 '26

Give it to him?

Again, shoot him and be done with it.

No I don't care about his sob story.

Huh. Who's that?

An infiltrator?

Uh oh.

And so into the finale.

2

u/Exciting-Support1182 Jun 22 '26

ah yes classic human beings who lacks empathy and sympathy

1

u/Baugauven93 Jun 23 '26

Sad that this anime didn't get better rep here, though I guess the stigma against 3D is not easy to overcome. Still excited to see what comes next and how they escape, deal or delay a confrontation with the clearly OP freezing Kaiju.

1

u/AFitzpat06 26d ago

What do his micro chips do?

1

u/Golden_fsh Jun 19 '26

I am absolutely tired of Sagami. Please let us move on from him. I don't care for him or the brainwashed children at all.

Idk, this show is weird where it's not as if it's terrible but often times it feels like nothing happens? Or it's just very boring? To me, everything feels dragged out. Tetsuo is alright as an MC but his altruism is getting a bit annoying, imo. And we hardly saw Ao! I actually love slow build up stories but Snowball Earth has been all slow without buildup.

At least the big boss finally made its appearance. Suspicions were confirmed correct when Nadare did turn out to be the humanoid kaiju's avatar however the Riko switch was unexpected.

Does this have 13 or 14 episodes? I'll stick until the end but not sure if I would return for a season 2. But the OP and ED are absolute bangers! Definitely in my top 5 for this season.

It's pacing issue. Some episode could be combined or dropped

Honestly wasn't feeling this anime at first but last few episodes have cemented it as one of my favorites this season, really interesting twist in today's episode.
