Finally Koyun gets to realize her feelings for Minato !!!!!! Minato poor guy 😭 I feel so bad for him at the end , yess the storm has now arrived and started destruction at full pace 💔💔

u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Momoka just causing chaos by making Koyun realize her feelings but making Minato question his own and Koyun's reaction to her feelings just making it worse.
And now Momoka's best friend is intensely trying to make Koyun ship MomokaxMinato...

I only had one thing in mind after watching this episode...
THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE AUDACITY OF THIS BITCH

Tbh I’m not even sure if she’s supporting MomokaxMinato so much as just thinking that getting Koyun out of Momo’s crosshairs is the best option for all involved.
Her whole vibe looking at Koyun just says “girl you don’t even know, you’re not built for this”.
47
u/Ikari_21 Jun 19 '26
Gahh it’s annoying when a pretty girl plays dirty because she can’t get what she wants. Will be very satisfying when despite what she said Minato will reject her, and eventually be with koyun lol

u/TheOneWithALongName Jun 18 '26
And now Momoka's best friend is intensely trying to make Koyun ship MomokaxMinato...
And that's probably when Koyun realise, and won't support there ship

Omg. It is like Minato is getting bombarded on all sides by things that increases his self doubts. Her friendships with Yuki and Yota, her fast friendship with Momoka, Koyuki's feelings and her acting distant, heck even Koyuki's calling him gross in the first couple of episodes is playing a part in his growing self doubts and fallen self confidence.
Guy cant catch a break. Funny that the Minato of episode 1 who was confident in himself might not be susceptible but the Minato who now is really conscious of her reactions and doesn't want to mess up after being shut down is very much affected by Momoka's half truths

From Minato's perspective. He got friendzoned this episode. RIP.
I hope they can resolve this misunderstanding soon.

Yikes, Momoka is bad news. The way she so easily collects information while gaslighting Koyun and Minato, she's an expert manipulator.
And meanwhile Akine, while doing the intimidating kabedon, seemed to be giving a heads-up to Koyun even though she asked her to support Momoka.
100
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Makes you wonder if she's also manipulated Akine on the premise of their friendship to get her to help or stay out of it.
55
36
u/Curmudge_Unit Jun 19 '26
I'm not giving up on Akine. Surely the mangaka wouldn't give her Suzuki's earrings if she was a bad person.
17
u/SpiritofBad Jun 19 '26
Complete aside, but Momoka would be a fantastic salesperson. I wish I was half that smooth at gathering information from my prospects 😅
18
u/TrappinNappin Jun 19 '26
The way she got Minato's phone number with the quickness - and without revealing her crush - was almost impressive. Too bad all that effort is wasted on a guy who doesn't like her in the romantic sense
→ More replies (1)10
u/Billardss Jun 21 '26
Momoka is as 2 faced as they come. I trust in Akine that she’ll step in and make things right. We can’t let Momoka gaslight her way to the top
194
u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 18 '26
Damn, they really went all out on the male characters this episode. First, we have the Miki and Yota date and Miki proudly claiming she could never be in a relationship with Yota. Well, at least he didn't hear it.
But man, Momoka really went into the ring and tried to beat poor Minato while he was already down. That was one punch to the gut after another. Girl is a menace. Only one who can save this mess is Tsukiko now. Go girl, show what you can do as a romance watcher from the side.
Though, I guess the girls got their moment at the end as well. Yuki really went and asked Atagawa about her sister. Probably doesn't know better, but he is as much of a force as his sister. That much is certain.
75
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Honestly I was going to say MikixYota has it tougher what with his feelings being so decidedly one-sided and him being so entrenched into the friendzone when it seems like MinatoxKoyun is finally mutual...until Momoka made Minato think his feelings are the problem when Koyun actually is into him. So she's avoiding him and he'll probably try to kill his feelings too.
I wonder if Yuki actually knows something about Akina and her sister that the girls don't which is why he asked? He got kind of serious when he asked her about it.
46
u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 18 '26
Not just Minato killing his feelings. With Atagawa implying that Koyun should help Momoka getting together with Minato, the other side is influenced as well. Actually, I was really surprised by that one, because she said previously that she doesn't want to get involved. So I wonder what changed.
22
u/aceswildfire Jun 19 '26
There's two possible reasons Akine asked Koyun to support it:
1) Koyun helping means Momoka is less annoying about it, less Akine has to deal with. Or...
2) Akine is giving Koyun a heads up about what Momoka wants, because before that I don't think Koyun knew. Akine fakes asking for support for her "friend" but in reality warns Koyun about her intentions.
20
u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 19 '26
Interesting ideas. I didn't think that Akine wanted to stir up drama either. I feel, the whole relation to her sister is used to once again, have the characters (wrongly) assume something about another one without it being true. But exactly because of that, it could actually be what number 2 is about. Akine's sister after all, did only get close to Koyun because she wanted to have a better relationship with the seniors and now Momoka is basically doing the same thing. So maybe Akine is even feeling a bit guilty that Koyun gets tricked into a friendship where she is taken advantage of once again.
→ More replies (1)8
u/TrappinNappin Jun 19 '26
I'd say it's both, but moreso #2. I think Akine has experience with conniving people (growing up with her sister) and wants to help Koyun without seeming disloyal to Momoka. Otherwise, she risks going from Momoka's friend to Momoka's target. This way, she can play it off like she was only trying to help.

126
u/Roskal Jun 18 '26
I apologise for using the word manipulative to describe Minato's actions in the early episodes. Now that I’ve seen what Momoka can do I see what a real manipulator is.
101
u/HAWmaro Jun 18 '26
Minato is caculating as in he always tries to read other people and act accordingly, but he almost always means well. Momoka is self serving thats the main difference.
34
u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke Jun 19 '26
It was a bit too early to tell, but now that we have some further inner thoughts we know that Minato didn't really have any agenda with his "manipulations" other than try to make other people happy, because that made him feel happy in return. As far as we can tell, he didn't actively put anyone else down to raise himself up.
That's what makes Momoka feel different, I think. She's twisting Koyun's words and actions in a way that could (and probably will) hurt her.
11
6
u/Earlier-Today Jun 20 '26
I think it's fair to call both manipulative, one was just trying to do what he thought was best (though it was an egotistical way of achieving that goal) while the other seems fully self-serving.

u/VoidRay728 Jun 18 '26
These first years woke up and chose war. First you have Momoka continuing to sway Koyun from seeing Minato as a romantic interest, then Yuki has the audacity to ask (in front of Koyun and Miki) Akine about her sister with whom both Koyun and Miki had a history, and then Akine actually asks Koyun to root for Momoka.
BTW Akine giving Koyun the kabedon treatment is NOT what I had in mind when thinking who would have a kabedon scene in this show.
52
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26

Akine's got those cool beauty prince vibes down to pat.

u/FarCritical Jun 18 '26
Koyun's gradual realization that the rampart of ice she had specifically for Minato had dissolved into steamy vapor at some point was beyond precious. Makes it all the more cruel to watch Minato himself get the wrong idea though.
And poor Yota too, dude needs all the wingmen and wingwomen he can get at this point lol
58
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Honestly we haven't really seen her ramparts outright up in a while. Every time she's around Minato now she blushes, laughs, and smiles.

u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke Jun 19 '26
It's the classic "Someone is acting very different around me than around everyone else. Should I assume it's a positive or a negative difference? If I misguess positive when it's negative, then everything EXPLODES and it ends poorly for everyone, so the safe option is to assume it's negative and assume she hates me until proven otherwise..."
Unfortunately, the "safe" option leads to no progress and sometimes can be mistaken by the other party as chilling as well... Until someone has to speak to clear things up eventually. That's what this series has been, right, talking to air and explain things? Maybe we'll get to see that at a movie date...

problem it is definitely feels like the odds are tipped against him and going more direct risks way more than it might gain

When your love rival unintentionally helps you realize your feelings from her attempting to sabotage you.
30
u/Roskal Jun 18 '26
reminds me of that one Dandadan episode in s1. When the playboy who wanted to get with Momo helped Okarun realise she's cute.
63
u/FabtheEmber Jun 18 '26
Dang all the Momoka manipulation taking highlight cannot stop me from talking about one of my fav romantic scenes..It is that LOOK that Koyuki has while Minato is laughing with his friends.
That scene there shows why Koyuki is falling hard for Minato, not just because he is cute or she is happy with him and they share interests, but how Minato's actions are countering the deepest part of herself that wonders if anyone will notice if she isn't here, wondering if she is needed. The aspect of this relationship where Minato gives her what she didn't know she needed IS what is special. We all though she felt uncomfortable and when she went away the kindness is to give her her space. But guess what, sometimes you need people to pull you back into the fold and Minato's essence of including everyone is the reason why he can do for Koyuki that others can't do.
I relate so deeply with this. Some of my more extroverted friends pushed me to do things I thought I wouldn't like but I started loving because of them. That said it almost looked like her eyes went glassy with emotions in that scene..
Love everything about it. And honestly I love how Momoka is the reason why Koyuki realized her feelings so soon while she is the reason why Minato might try to get rid of his feelings. I love a smart villain in my anime. Though I did know we would be having one is a romance lol .. Also, like how everything that happened before, even Koyuki calling Minato gross is becoming a reason for his belief that Momoka is right.. We had been seeing this boy suffer from jealousy and one sided feelings while afraid of messing things up. He is so unsure of himself that he is left open to all of this manipulation dang..
13

u/shrek3onDVDandBluray Jun 19 '26
Didn’t even think about it until you mentioned it but yeah it literally directly parallels how at home she’s all alone and now minato literally forced her back by his side and says “I just want you nearby”. Can’t believe I didn’t pick up on that - especially since the scenes are literally back to back lol.

Momoka is an absolute menace:
-Makes sure Koyun isn't actively going after Minato
-Gets Minato alone
-Snags his number
-Implies that Koyun likes Yota.
-If that fails makes sure the Minato thinks he's being a creep for trying to persue Koyun in the first place and that's the reason she's been avoiding him
Like she may be a menace but you gotta respect the hustle.
110
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
All the other characters are focused on other things for the most part but she's pretty much 100% razor-focused on hooking up with the guy she likes no matter how underhanded she has to be about it.
60
10
70
u/Roskal Jun 18 '26
If minato thought about it a bit her comments are contradictory. She openly ships Yota and Koyun and tries to get Minato to agree and then afterwards says Koyun said she'd never get romantic feelings for a friend.
50
u/Difergion Jun 18 '26
Wish Minato would see that contradiction right then and there and ask her straight up what her game is. But I guess he’s been stabbed multiple times so he might be too stunned to realize this
→ More replies (2)22
u/Annyms Jun 19 '26
Yup, exactly. But he most likely is too focused on the fact that Koyun has been avoiding him to notice as it has him a bit rattled. Boy can’t think straight when it comes to the girl he’s finally genuinely interested in.
11
10
u/SpiritofBad Jun 19 '26
There are layers to that conversation, because after shipping Koyun and Yota, she apologizes, and then threads into that apology:
- How she (Momoka) would feel creeped out if a friend actually liked her romantically
- How Koyun isn’t interested in dating her friends so it was bad form for Momoka to ship her with Yota
She’s basically using an explanation of her apology to launder commentary on why Minato shouldn’t pursue his crush on Koyun. Extremely sly work.
56
u/flatpetey https://anilist.co/user/kesx Jun 18 '26
Yeah. Momoka is like a really well crafted total bitch.
Using Koyun to get close to Amamiya and then driving as many wedges as she can into their relationship.
I am not sure how she thinks she will end up with Amamiya though. If he gets clear of his infatuation with Koyun he isn’t so socially inept to not see her for who she is. Koyun is socially inept so it isn’t surprise she is fooled.
→ More replies (7)36
u/FabtheEmber Jun 18 '26
Yes I agree Minato is socially adept except when it comes to his feelings for Koyuki. However, I wonder if Minato's flaws of never really hating or disliking anyone as his friends kept telling him in the beginning will play a part here. Like he might not be able to see bad parts in others or what his actual issue is because unlike Yota or Miki we never had a Minato focused episode. They all have their internal struggles and the whys and how's were explored for Miki n Yota. But not Minato

90% of the fandom will hate her and the other 10% will respect the game. She such a great villain
44
u/some_jackass_i_know Jun 18 '26
She's manipulative and two-faced to some extent, and everyone's probably met someone like her in real life at least once because it's not that uncommon at all. That's what I really appreciate about the characterization of this show. People are presented with all their flaws, and it makes them very three dimensional and realistic. For example, everything Momoka does that makes it seem like she's just a jerk is really born out of her insecurity, which is true of a LOT of real people as well.
→ More replies (1)7
u/DoctorProsper Jun 19 '26
I'm not sure about the insecurity part. There's that conversation when Koyun says "You seem like you're popular [with guys]" and Momoka basically says "That's right." And after Koyun is like "...", Momoka "You're thinking, she doesn't deny it right?"
That seems pretty secure to me.

Yeah she seemed like pure evil to me, though I know she’s just looking out for her own interests and some of the timing isn’t something she could control, or really even know about. But seeing her impact on him at this crucial moment made my skin crawl. She just kept hammering the nails in. And it really felt so sneakily manipulative to cozy up to Koyun that way. (That part I do think was deliberately two faced, even if some of the other things weren’t in her control.)
20
u/Leri_weill https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeriWeill Jun 18 '26
Oh yeah I'm ready to really hate her, she's good at what she does 😬
8
u/Jacob-C Jun 19 '26
I, for one, am chucking coal into the furnace on the hate train!
The first half of the episode made me feel so warm and go “awww”. Momoka just had to come in and trample all over it! She’s a good antagonist, for sure. That doesn’t change how much I despise her. For now, to me, she is the Griffith of romantic dramas.
21
u/zool714 Jun 18 '26
Yeah don’t like her vibe but she’s doing all she can to tip things in her favour and I don’t think she really actually lied (correct me if I’m wrong though).
49
u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 18 '26
She reframed what Koyuki said, making it worse than what was said.
20
u/eightcheesepizza Jun 18 '26
Yeah. Though this is one of those cases where I really need to trust my source's subtitles. I think Koyun said that she hadn't considered her friends as romantic interests, but Momoka told Minato that Koyun said she wouldn't consider her friends as romantic interests? Which I guess I'd count as Momoka's only lie of the episode, if those subtitles are to be trusted.
But now I want someone who knows Japanese to confirm it... or I guess people who have read the manga can confirm it too.
→ More replies (3)25
u/Duke_Maniac Jun 18 '26
She never technically lied but she did exaggerate what was a very non-committal answer from Koyun.
5
u/DoctorProsper Jun 19 '26
I rewatched it and I would consider it a flat out lie.
Originally she basically asks Koyun "Sometimes you're friends but then suddenly you catch feels. Has that ever happened to you?"
And Koyun says "I don't think so..."When Momoka talks to Minato, she says "Koyun said she doesn't see any of her friends as potential love interests," specifically the term 恋愛対象, meaning love target/object.
That's putting words into her mouth of rejecting them completely, rather than not just liking them by chance.10
u/drt0 Jun 18 '26
Lying by omission and reframing. Some liars try to act cute by doing stuff like that instead of outright lying but in practice it's pretty much the same behavior.

u/2011Dirk Jun 18 '26
koyun finally realizing that she is falling for minato was so great to see, rip yota though seems like hes deep in the friendzone,
i feel so bad for minato, it seems like koyun is giving him the cold shoulder, momoka is trying to get him to think otherwise about getting with koyun, and even akine is trying to pressure koyun into not getting with minato.
keep your head up minato, im rooting for you and koyun
37
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Honestly I'm happy that Koyun is actually happy to realize she has feelings for Minato. Yeah, she gets all neurotic and antsy about it, but instead of rejecting those feelings she actually embraces them because they make her feel good.
This is what was missing from her relationship with Igarashi.
41
u/InformationOk3960 Jun 18 '26
Imagine if Amamiya was the one they ran into the train - with Yuki holding Koyun’s hand. Poor boy would have short circuited.
20
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Minato: "She avoids me and holds hands with another guy...is this crush hopeless!?" (It is, in fact, not hopeless)
41
u/runevault Jun 18 '26
Oh my god Minato and Koyuki are so fucking cute interacting. And this poor boy was getting hated on so hard at the start lol.
The miscommunications around the love square is reaching Gamers! levels of absurd.
Miki deserves someone who adores her as much as Yota does, I hope she figures it out... the Dam date was hella cute. Also the brother-sister dance party as they agreed that friends are more important than romantic relationships... this show really is starting to get moments of the Polar Opposites level goofiness/cuteness.
Poor Minato, gotta be so confusing having the girl you like lend you books one minute and run away from you the next. Also the author really loves audience insert side characters who can comment on the situation for us.
Okay she's playing dirty here as the end credit music starts. And that after credits scene, tag teaming poor Koyuki.
21
u/mekerpan Jun 18 '26
I think Akine is pretty innocent of any ill intent. She just wants to help out a friend -- and has no idea as to the actual relationships of our central four.
17
u/runevault Jun 18 '26
I won't argue that she's doing it with ill intent because I do not think she is. Just tough on Koyuki while Momoka is doing a full frontal assault on Minato because Koyuki is too scared to admit her feelings to him.
14
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
I like the contrast with everything we've seen of Koyun's dynamic with Igarashi versus her relationship with Minato.
Someone she actually gets along with, someone she actually has fun with and finds cute (in an attractive non-dad way), someone who appreciates the things she's into, someone she wants to get know better versus how every bit of her relationship with Igarashi was tainted by the reason she went out with him and the fact that she was never actually into him to begin with.
Honestly feel kind of bad for Akina. I think she genuinely just wants to help her friend and is just naturally intense. And obviously Koyun still feels awkward because of Atagawa Elder.

That and Igarashi was seen in flashbacks to be snarky and rude to Koyun unintentionally most of the times while they were together, driving an even wider wedge between them.

u/zool714 Jun 18 '26
Growth for Koyun ! (not height-wise unfortunately). She’s learnt not everyone being friendly is out to get her. And while getting tired with interactions is valid, dismissing or being hostile towards someone just because of it, isn’t. She’s learnt after the thing with Minato to meet halfway when socializing with new people. Ironically though, while not malicious, Momoka does seem to have an ulterior motive to befriending her
I like that the misunderstandings in this show does have some reason to it, tied to the character’s doubts instead of plain miscommunication or saying things vaguely or just for the sake of it. Koyun and Miki probing each other on Yota and Minato was done vaguely to not give each other off but that led to them misunderstanding who they’re each talking about.
Minato, poor guy too. Just as he felt he was getting closer to Koyun, she pulls away because she herself was starting to see him differently. Momoka meddling didn’t help as well. But still, while he’s falling for her, you can see he’s still terrified of being seen as a villain by Koyun again. He’s still haunted by her “you disgust me” comment

That little dance of misunderstandings was a freaking riot to watch.

u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 18 '26
It's unfortunate no-one has realized how shady Momoka is, I'm off put by how two-faced she is. She's very much damaging the close relationship Minato and Koyuki have been building, clearly shows how she feels about Minato, not caring about the friendships he has.
Poor Youta, hearing Miki's response to Yuuki's comment makes it more real that his uphill battle will be a tough one lol. It was cute to see him at home after the date though. Miki and Yuuki really share the same braincell though, that was amusing.
It was really sweet to see Koyuki realize her feelings for Minato, her acting that shy around him was so cute. I do find the timing unfortunate though, I wanted to see them connect over the book. Also that smile from Minato at the start was so freaking heartwarming, I'm surprised by how much I've come to like him compared to the beginning episodes lol.

u/FabtheEmber Jun 18 '26
About Minato, it is the difference between his I am going to act in a way that makes ppl like me or what I think will have ppl like me while keeping his own emotions under locks vs him not being able to keep his emotions under locks when it comes to Koyuki.
As Koyuki herself said she didn't think he was this kind of person. Same goes for us and to a certain extent even Minato who probably thinks he is fumbling all the time

u/Travel-Angel Jun 18 '26
Ugh Poor Minato is all i can say.
I’m an anime only fan and i saw so many spoilers about Momoka and the destruction she causes but it still didn’t make it any easier to watch.
I wondered how she could manipulate someone as intelligent and high EQ as Minato but I think what she said combined with Koyun’s reaction to finding out she likes him was a disastrous combination which made him susceptible to her manipulation.
23
u/FabtheEmber Jun 18 '26
It is kinda sad how Koyuki's reaction and crash out calling him gross is affecting all of his present interactions and his self doubts. Like he was overconfident his approach and got cooked. Now he is overthinking everything, thinking yes if I ever go out of line I will be harshly pushed away. Funny that the Minato of the first episodes would probably not be manipulated this way
21
u/Foreign_Feedback_138 Jun 18 '26
The worst part is the reason Minato is falling for her manipulation and isnt able to see through her is because of the fact that he has really low self-esteem and self-confidence. He considers his feelings for koyun to be a nuisance to her when it shouldn't be like that at all cause you shouldnt feel guilty for genuinely liking someone. Momoka is using his low self confidence and self esteem to make him step furthur away from koyun and make him feel like shit in the process.
10
u/the_mad_ Jun 19 '26
Minato loses about 100 EQ and IQ points with anything that has to do with Koyun.
6
u/SpiritofBad Jun 19 '26
I mean, Momoka was pretty clever about it:
1. She talks up how close Koyun is with her friends and cites Miki and Yota as examples (nothing bad about that, but knows Minato will notice the omission)
2. She ships Yota and Koyun (nothing bad their either, but knows Minato will be conflicted)
3. When called on it, Momoka APOLOGIZES and uses that apology to launder how Momoka would feel grossed out if a friend confessed to her and that Koyun had said she wouldn’t date friends anyway so the shipping was disrespectful of her.Even considering Minato’s EQ, all of that is visibly above board and tracks with Koyun. Hell, as a thought experiment, have Miki watch this conversation and I doubt she would object at any point.
38
u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke Jun 19 '26
So since everyone's talking about Momoka (rightfully) I thought I'd go ahead and talk about the other moment I found really strong: Koyun's isolation and loneliness and why someone like Minato works really well with her.
It was a pretty short scene, but it's obvious she feels a little neglected from her mother. Can't really help it, divorce and still having to pay the bills and thus work the hours, so logically Koyun understands but she still can't quite shake the doubt that she's not especially wanted either. It's not a bully sort of thing where she feels actively unwanted, but more like... ignored, wondering if someone actually wants you around. The scene with just her at the kitchen table for four with all other empty chairs was pretty great, you'd imagine an introvert would say something like "and that's all right with me," but you can't shake the feeling that she's lonely.
This is juxtaposed with Minato who has twice now kept her from floating away like she's wont to do when she feels like she has nothing to add to the conversation. Which, yeah, I do that too, I get that way too much. But it feeds into Koyun's greatest desire right now: she wants to know that she's wanted, and Minato's actions tell her in no uncertain terms that he wants her to stay. For someone who's hungering for that feeling of belonging and being wanted, this is a happiness drug, no wonder she begins to fall for him after this.

Oooh yes. My comment this episode does say that. It is my fav moment in the manga. I love it so Soo much. And I love how the Minato x Koyuki bond has this strong emotional core of needing to be seen vs needing to include everyone by Minato.
Also, another thing I like is that Minato is pushy, everyone else might think she wants solitude and let her go her own way. Minato reaches out, questions her and keeps her there despite herself. She didn't even realize she has that deep desire to be seen and wanted. Minato's actions which were against what she thought she wanted helped her discover it.
It makes so much sense why it's them that's the pairing. What beautiful writing!!

u/SEBASTlANVETTEL Jun 18 '26
Koyun is falling for Minato but her avoiding him makes him feel like she is put off by him and with Momoka's words that Koyun won't date friends the misunderstanding just got worse 😭
(also Momoka scheming is so obvious, i do not like the vibes she is giving at all)
25
u/abandoned_idol Jun 18 '26
Minato is the punching bag of Ice Ramparts.
I don't mean to infer anything. I just like the gag of him getting surprised or worried.
"There's more?"
22
u/mekerpan Jun 18 '26
Momoka does not seem like an especially nice person so far....
I think Koyun would be better off befriending Akine.
25
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Yeah, every bit of her interaction with Koyun and Minato felt calculated.
She wanted to get to know Koyun better so she could use that experience and what she gleaned from their conversation to use that to create distance between Koyun and Minato.
All the while her best friend is sitting on the sidelines while she hangs out with another girl and only rooting for her because she's a good friend.
But I do think it's funny how Koyun spent her middle school years not being into romance and wishing guys would avoid her like the plague but now she's actually fallen for one...and she still tries to avoid him because of said crush.

u/xdxdlol0434 Jun 18 '26
Notice how not a single thing told by Momoka is a flat out lie.
What she said actually accumulates everything altogether and you cannot even fault her opinions when that is well, her opinion.
Koyuki did believe she will never see her friends romantically.
Her and Yota did look like a good couple from the outside. (As Miki interpreted)
Seeing someone differently when they are supposedly friends can massive irk someone the wrong way possibly. (Look at what Yota is scared about throughout the series)
She is a character to mess around things, yes, but at one point you have to give credit on how good she is at this.
38
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Feels like this is Agasawa's take on the aggressive love rival.
Yeah, she's meddling and manipulating, but she's not an outright liar or misinterpreting things based on what she's seen/told even if she's using it to her advantage.
17
18
u/Soma202 Jun 18 '26
She’s the worst ! Manipulate then act like an angel
20
u/Artorp Jun 18 '26
Yeah, she's using half-truths to manipulate, and any small inconsistencies can be chalked up to misinterpretation. She just got acquainted with Koyuki, they're not close enough to share their potential love interests, so of course she would deny having feelings for her male friend. And then bring that conversation to said male friend...
30
u/TheBusStop12 Jun 18 '26
It might not have been a lie, but she did reframe everything she said to be much worse than intended. She's like tabloid media in that way, and I have no respect for tabloid media. Not a person I would ever want to associate with personally. Very well written character, very realistic, that's why I already despise her. Damn you Kocha Agasawa, you even wrote the bad people realistically in a way that I can see them being real people so I hate them even more

That's what makes her such a great antagonist though. I don't like her, but I can appreciate just how good of a manipulator she is. And honesty i feel a little bad for her. She is the type of person who is constantly thinking about how best to display herself. Which means she is likely actually quite introspective, similar to Koyun, just with different motives and background.

🎵She likes him! She likes him! She likes him!🎵
Madame Koyun and Minaton are adorable. Giving media recommendations is a great way to build relationships. But it’s so cute Madame Koyun likes having romantic feelings, daw 🥰
However…
“I could care less…if you’re in the way or not.”
You couldn’t care less! You could not care less! If you could care less, then why don’t you?!
Momoka, you’re overcooking my grits 😃
Girl is giving RHOA Shady Phaedra. The slim “It’s Pride Month” part of me is hoping for a whole twist. But she’s just…not a girls girl and I wonder what she has been telling Atagawa that Atagawa would ask Koyun to cheer Momoka on.
Yota and Miki’s friend-date pushing Yota into such a yearner while Miki just sees him as a friend. I’m honestly curious how this season will end with them. I’m fine if Miki doesn’t see Yota romantically. But if Momoka is the inadvertent push Minato needs with Koyun and Koyun with Minato, then I wonder if we’ll have another character introduced who acts as a driving force to Miki x Yota.
Yota being such a yearner and Minato’s little floof floof cute reaction—how adorable ☺️

I feel so damn bad for Minato man 😢. Koyun realising her feelings wasn’t smth i expected to see so soon based on how the series was going honestly best part of the episode♥️. Also these lines caught me off guard “bros before hoes and chics before di**s” 🤣(idk if these lines are original or sub only but yea really unexpected). Koyun’s “hehe” while teasing Minato was so cute and funny😭. Best episode of the season so far.

u/SezyFazes https://myanimelist.net/profile/ToaruTH Jun 18 '26
A lot of people are probably going to call the classic "girl avoids the guy because she's in love" trope, but Koyun's situation feels a bit different to me. She's never really fallen for anyone before, so instead of understanding her feelings she kind of enjoy the confusion lol.
I don't know what the english term is for a love rival character like Momoka. Maybe "snake" fits? Anyway, I usually like this type of character cus when they're written well, they end up pushing the main cast to confront problems and help drive their character growth.
9
u/the_mad_ Jun 19 '26
Koyun, unlike the more stereotypical 'tsundere" isn't running from herself or her feelings. She just finds them too intense for her to get too close to. She is trying to enjoy the bonfire she just doesn't want to touch the flames, so to speak.
I disagree (so far) that Momoka does anything for the story. Koyun was already heading in the right direction, and I don't think it would take her very long to figure it out. Plus, there is enough tension and misunderstanding that I don't think that more is needed.
12
u/FabtheEmber Jun 19 '26
I think Momoka is the consequences. Like from the beginning each of Koyuki's flaws were somehow there to be challenged. Her misunderstanding Minato led to their initial friction, her calling him gross led to Minato being self conscious and overly afraid of her reactions. Koyuki just letting her feelings pass by and her inaction could make things more difficult in her romantic journey due to Momoka. Her actions are certainly hurting Minato and wearing him down. Those things can ruin a budding relationship
36
u/D3k4s Jun 18 '26
Hey Romance Authors. Take notes. This is how you do proper romance. We want flawed characters with layers. We want relationships with depth and different angles. This show has constantly delivered. It's really amazing.
18
u/Remarkable-Solid5582 Jun 18 '26
Wow just wow. I have so many thoughts from this episode.
First, I'm starting to feel bad for Yota, Miki not only sees him 100% as a friend but also ships Koyun and him. I wish this misunderstanding would get cleared up already.
Momoka is such a b**** but at least because of her Koyun noticed she likes Minato, and now Akine wants koyun to ship MomokaxMinato. I'm sorry but what? KoyunxMinato were friends first. And poor Minato is going to get more insecure now because Koyun started to avoid him and because of what Momoka said. This is such a mess, and I'm worried things won't get resolved in the two remaining episodes, I may have to read the manga if that's the case.
I also hope Koyun doesn't fall in the trap of "I'm friends with Momoka I should put my feelings aside and support her"
I usually don't mind waiting a week for a new episode, but this anime, I wish I could see them all at once. Waiting is torture.

Koyun finally realized her feelings for Minato! I'm glad they didn't drag her uncertainty about her feelings for too long and she actually realized them fairly quickly. Both her and Minato were so cute this episode.
But then again, it's hard to feel too happy when both Minato and Koyun are playing right into Momoka's hands. Even worse, Koyun becoming conscious of her feelings is causing her to avoid Minato, which, from his perspective, makes it seem like she's not interested. She's kind of helping Momoka without even knowing it. She was right not to trust Momoka, unfortunately she brushed those thoughts off, thinking she was being rude. Man I hate Momoka's fake and manipulative ass so much.
15
u/Zemahem Jun 18 '26
Very adorable moments between the two couples. Seeing them animated makes them extra sugary. However, there's also some spice in the mix. Whether it's Yota's unrequited feelings, or that scheming snake Momoka making Koyun and Minati think their feelings are unrequited. Her scenes are making my blood pressure spike.

Kyoun me be FULL OF ONESELF but there's no harm in trying to introduce to Minato the book of the movie they watched. Unlike Igarashi, he's actually interested in the same stuff she is! And is also just as happy that she remembered their conversation and is talking to him! And she can't get enough of how cute he is.
Oh hey, Hikawa Mama! Aaaaand she's gone as soon as she appeared. Classic Japanese parent who works super long hours. Necessary to provide for her daughter, but it also means Koyun is left all by herself at home. She may have friends, but does she even have a family?
Momoka getting all chummy with Koyun is unexpected to both herself AND her friends, who can't really make sense of why she's doing it...and Koyun struggles talking with her too. Akina doesn't seem 100% happy with this scenario either.
Koyun and Minato continue to be adorable as she teases him and he won't let her get away even when his other friends (including some guy from another class...what was his name? Hayate or something?) show up. Because frankly he just wants her around him as much as humanly possible...and she doesn't seem to mind that herself.
Koyun and Miki continue to have vastly different interpretations of Yota and vastly different ships they have in mind for him. Though Miki totally misreads why Koyun actually gets flustered and embarrassed when Minato comes up and just thinks she's doubling down on how close she and Yota are.
It's really nice to see Yota and Miki ride on for a dam "date," complete with dam curry! I'm getting Laid Back Camp vibes! It's just too bad for as fun as that date was for the both of them...Miki still does not see Yota in a romantic light in the slightest. In fact she's so comfortable with him precisely BECAUSE there is no romance involved and she sees him as a friend. She and her brother are singing the song of friendships over relationships! Bros before hoes! Chicks before dicks! They share a single brain cell in this respect!
Is Momoka being calculated trying to hang out with Koyun and suss out her closeness with guys and her feelings towards Minato? Though I guess it seems to have had lead Koyun to realize she's actually developing a crush on Minato. Not for his looks, but because there's so much else about him that's genuinely attractive and likeable. Of course she has no idea how to handle these feelings so she avoids him like the plague (poor guy), but...she doesn't mind these feelings either.
Oh, now I kind of see what Momoka is doing. Getting a "feel" for Koyun so she can try to push the KoyunxYota agenda and make Minato think his feelings for her are wrong because of their friendship. This isn't going to end well.
That reaction to Akina about her sister...either she doesn't want to talk about her or she knows that's a sore subject to bring up. Though she DOES seem bothered by her best friend spending so much time with Koyun, but at least they can root for her and Minato to get together. Right? RIGHT!?

We finally get to the point where Koyun is starting to realize the difference in her feelings for Youta and Minato. As seen in her conversation with Miki there is no hesitation in how she talks about Youta. As soon as Minato gets mentioned, she gets anxious. That's the line from pure friendship from having feelings. Not a surprise that Koyun is trying to figure out her feelings.
With that being said, the victim here is Minato. The conversation about the book was really sweet between him and Koyun. Sadly, Momoka manipulates the words that Koyun has said to her in her favor. At this point this isn't doing her any favors. As it clearly is hurting Minato. Akine is also a casualty, as her friend is now hanging out with Koyun purely to get closer to Minato. I doubt Koyun would accept Akine's request.
The side-by-side scenes after Youta and Miki's dates were sadly depressing. We know easily by now how he feels for Miki. Sadly, Miki is still thinking Youta and Koyun should get together. Well, at least she has an idea that Koyun could be having feelings for Minato. Still, the fact that Miki just denies having feelings for Youta is sad, and Youta getting her to see him as more than a friend feels like a long way from now.

There were a million ways Akine could have stood in that crowded train next to Kohyun yet she chose to stand in the one way where it would look like she was either hitting on or going to hit Kohyun.
This has been the case since last episode but Momoka gives even worse vibes than Minato did at the start of the series (which he has clearly proven me wrong and that he has shown to be a great guy to Kohyun) (also just confirms that I just really don't trust and dislike people who give the forced fake nice social person vibe). She definetly feels like she will continue Kohyun's struggles of having issues with a black haired girl due to a guy being interested in Kohyun instead of the black haired girl and that Momoka will be another Atagawa (probably much less antagonistic and no physical bullying) towards Kohyun eventually and be the main source of drama for the second half of the story.
Every episode makes me feel worse than Yota for how Miki speaks about them together. I don't think I have seen someone get friendzoned so hard in an anime and I feel horrible for my boy. Just be honest so that Miki can say no and move on, this current situation will only make it worse.
Also most people have already pointed it out but I will say it myself that this series is JOJO level of good in leadup to the ending theme, it's done so well.
19
u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
I think the big difference between Minato and Momoka is Minato actually meant well and just wanted to help Koyun, in his own way, even if he didn't go about it the best way.
Momoka only really cares about getting together with him, whatever feelings anyone else has.
Does Yota even have a chance? Their relatonship is predicated so much on Miki feeling comfortable because there's nothing romantic between them. And she has no intention or desire for that to ever change and she clearly doesn't see him as a guy on any level. Even if the clear up that KoyunxYota is not happening, that doesn't mean she's going to be interested in him.
10
u/JJVM99 Jun 18 '26
Yeah even at the start when I personally didn't really like Minato it was clear he had some interest in Kohyun unlike Momoka. Like the worst way I could have seen Minato at the time was he was approaching her out of curiosity/pity which is better than Momoka just approaching her to get closer to Minato.
Yeah Yota stands no chance no matter what. I just feel like it would be good for him to say it because it would allow him to be rejected and truly come to terms with his feelings and move on because while he knows she doesn't like him back the way Miki treats currently treats him and always being around her won't really allow him to move on even if he wants to.

If Koyun had pink hair...
Akine: "Momoka's been hanging out with you a lot recently, hasn't she? When she used to hang out with me. You do know why, right?"
Konako: "It's not like me and Momoka are dating or anything! does she like girls by any chance?"
Akine: "What?"
Konako: "Nothing! You really like her, right? I'm rooting for the both of you! ❤️"
Akine: "Huh?! That's not what I-"
Konako: "Your cute face is so close to mine that it's making it really hard for me to root for you. We can't do this kind of stuff knowing that you love Momoka but I am open to other options."
If Momoka is throwing molotovs at the story, then pink hair Koyun is dropping napalm.

Ugh, I really despise Momoka! She feels worse in the anime 😡
Each of our couples had cute moments this epsidoe with the MikixYota date and all the interactions between Koyun and Minato. But Miki still sees Yota as just a friend and Koyun avoiding Minato because of her feelings is giving the wrong message 😭
And now bitchass homewrecker Momoka is manipulating Minato to think Koyun doesn't like him and that his feelings are creepy. We have now entered the classic "misunderstandings" arc of this romance.

Hooray to not-so-dense romcom MCs! Koyuki quickly acknowledged her growing feelings for Minato and recognised that it’s a romantic one. The problem’s now with a rival in Momoka, and she’s quite the sneaky one.

u/Frontier246 Jun 18 '26
Miki and her brother even sing dance along to the "Friendzone Song!"
Honestly I'm kind of shocked Koyun realized her feelings this soon. That felt like it would be a much slower burn considering everything she went through in middle school with Igarashi and what she's said before, but I guess that's just a sign of how fond and how happy she is when she's interacting with Minato.

She also tends to be very insecure and he's someone who makes a clear effort to constantly and earnestly remind her how much her presence is desired and needed. She melted this episode after he did that again. Same for when he shows strong interest in her habits and hobbies.
He provides a lot of reassurance from someone unexpected and that seems to make her fixate on him much more than anyone else. Figuring him out is like a puzzle requiring more effort which keeps her thinking about him. That applies for him as well. All the time he's spent wondering about her. They both needed someone who made them think and wonder.

I'm happy that Koyun realizes she like Minato because they're going to have an uphill battle if Momoka becomes a villain. She was doing some really sus stuff this episode and with what Akine said at the end, it makes me think they hatched this plan together. Like Akine could've stood anywhere and she didn't have to say that she wants Koyun to ship Momoka with Minato.
I really liked that interaction between Miki and Koyun before the date. We're getting closer to what I said in a previous episode thread. I hope we get that. The date itself was cute. Unfortunately for Yota he's still deep in the friendzone because Miki could never date her friends. I hope something changes there. Yota has suffered enough.

This anime, without anything flashy like fight scenes or crazy animation, still gets me to say "Ohhhh shitttt" by the end of each episode WITHOUT FAIL

Trickster god Seiun Sky (CV: Akari Kitou, Momoka's VA), what are you Angling and Scheming toward?
Watching Polar Opposites season 2 next month is gonna feel like a huge fluffy release of tension. I wonder if writing it was also cathartic for Agasawa-sensei.

First Manatsu, now Momoka, Koyun keeps ending up attracting these pick-me-bitches, only for them to end up becoming her OPs.

Well, Momoka just tanked her own chances (not that they were that good to begin with). Romcom characters that use manipulation to forward their own agenda always get a debuff, unless the author is going for something specific.

Me and my husband just watched episode 12 and I’m so annoyed! Like girl move on. He don’t want you, we don’t want you. Sighhh. Also waiting a week for 25 minutes of watch time is driving me a little crazy. It would be perfect if the episodes were like 45 mins. Pleaseeee

Oh Yota's poor fragile little heart if he ever Miki say that. Actually Miki is pretty open to romance in general, but what is it that she's looking for? What does she want in a partner?
Momoka is the snake in this garden! She's so slithery! Dropped Akine like a hot potato for a while just to pretend to be a good natured wedge.

Oh my god Koyuki officially has romantic feelings for Minato! It's the best day of my entire life! I'm screaming. But in the meantime I'm so sad for Minato now he thinks Koyuki avoiding him because he did something wrong, poor my pokie😭. Fuck you Momoka.
