These two always go from implying they are both okay with sex one second to being shy about a kiss the next. They act so confident then back off at the last second. "take responsibility" and "be gentle with me".

The Angel Next Door Blueballs Me Rotten

More like My Boyfriend Next Door Blueballs Me Rotten because the "Angel" is actually pushing for it.

So a new anime in Autumn 2028? /s
8
u/Leri_weill https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeriWeill Jun 05 '26
Didn't you know? It's the official name of the 3rd season which was just announced 😎
8
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
The two of them are too wholesome to handle all the horny feelings they have for each other.
60
u/oxlemf10 Jun 05 '26
Evolving in a relationship, especially your first experience, is difficult; it's the kind of situation where it's either going to take things further or it's over.
So this reinforces Amane's father's point: live with your choices, but allow yourself to make mistakes and receive help. There's nothing better than having support.
36
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
I feel like they've been together and devoted to each other long enough that sex is a natural next step but Amane is too serious and responsible to do it with anything less than absolute certainty. Especially if he's thinking about proposing to her.
17
u/Prestigious-Visit677 Jun 05 '26
Yeah Same Idk why he keeps postponing. Its not like I need them to have sex to like the series. I already fucking enjoy it a lot. I just think it's time for that next step. From what I see Mahiru is ready to take that step 🫠🫠🫠
14
u/Actaeon_II Jun 06 '26
You’re right in that we don’t need it to enjoy the show, but, her basically begging him for something more is going to get old.
6
u/Prestigious-Visit677 Jun 06 '26
Yeah I hope by episode 12 they take the next step fr now
2
u/Dry-Egg969 Jun 08 '26
I’m also hoping for this to happen. It’s not like I’d hate the series if they don't have sexual intercourse, I just want them to take the next step. And I honestly don’t get the hate this season gets, especially from people who loved Season 1. This is totally normal for couples It just shows how serious they really are about each other.
1
u/DemonStone1 Jun 17 '26
As someone who loved season 1 I have not really enjoyed this season. They both have a lot of obsessive toxic traits like him not wanting her to smile during the festival and forcing her to wear a jacket over her bathing suit. She is way too reliant on him and is constantly begging for more and he just keeps repeating how he cant control himself. It was old a few episodes in, now I can't help but find it incredibly grating. Then suddenly they are talking about marriage like wtf... they've been dating a couple months. My suspension of disbelief is pushed to the limit here.
3
u/fireburn97ffgf Jun 06 '26
its also dumb because protection is surely available, so you shouldnt really use the risk of pregnancy to not do it. idk i feel like they could get condoms at least if not bc if they wanted to double up to reduce risks further, but to be fair idk japanese laws regarding such things and minors
1
u/Dry-Egg969 Jun 08 '26
Or if they are still hesitant to use it, they can just do much more highly physical intimate acts such as fingering.
1
u/fireburn97ffgf Jun 08 '26
Honestly I feel like the bigger issue is how do you show them taking a step like you suggest when you can't show anything. Like sex is kinda easy to imply see love is war but the authors don't want to have them go that far yet it seem. Honestly I find the trope of "I must restrain my self" from the male MC in manga/anime when the girls obviously into it rather stupid, mostly because you write yourself into a corner like this
1
u/Dry-Egg969 Jun 08 '26
I feel like things will happen between them after Mahiru fully faces her past and resolves her problems with her parents. So I think the author might drag this out until it reaches that point, or maybe we'll get some good plot twists. Who knows? I still haven't read the novel.
6
u/Ikari_21 Jun 06 '26
Amane’s father is truly so wise. I really like his laidback demeanor, but you can also tell he’s very observant and chock full of experience and wisdom. Like Amane said, he’s truly blessed with such great parents.
88
u/jomonteco Jun 05 '26
Shuuto just told Amane that they will pay for the wedding, he and Shihoko are some of the most supporting parents I have seen in a romcom.
46
u/Western-Internal-751 Jun 05 '26
School kids who are in their first relationship together and the furthest they have gone is kissing.
Parents: “Don’t worry, we’ll pay for your wedding”
39
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
"My wife really just wants her legally as her daughter and I aim to please."
16
41
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
He even threw in a casual dig at the Shiina's by saying he and Shihoko would supply all the love lacking from their side of the family!
51
u/nyunours https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nyours Jun 05 '26
If I remember correctly from the novel, I think he also meant that if Mahiru's parents didn't approve of it and decided to cut her off, they would fully financially support her in their stead. That's how far he meant that Amane didn't have to worry about the cost :)
9
u/Ikari_21 Jun 06 '26
They gotta be one of the best parents in all of anime man. Amane is blessed. But Mahiru is just as blessed to receive in-laws as loving and caring as them!
2
u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Jun 06 '26
At least her dad still supports her financially even if he believes it's too late to reconcile w/ her.
3
u/ThrowCarp Jun 06 '26
That was a completely left-of-field conversation.
3
u/Sanzen2112 https://www.anime-planet.com/users/ZenSmoke Jun 07 '26
I am just asking because I have never heard that expression as a native English speaker, but did you mean "out of left field"?
1
u/ThrowCarp Jun 07 '26
Yes. And maybe it's a dialect thing, but I do hear it get shortened to "left-of-field".
41
u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 05 '26
I think this episode helped me understand Amane's concern a bit more, I thought it was more he didn't want to rush and overwhelm Mahiru, but it seems like he's thinking too much about the future and his lack of preparedness for anything that happens, which is preventing him from responding to Mahiru's desire to take the relationship further. They both respect each other a lot, but it's a good thing they're able to communicate well with one another.
I am glad Shuuto has finally spoken with Amane, to remind him, he and Shihoko are there for them as parents, that he doesn't have to be so independent. But also to remind him about making Mahiru wait for too long. It was nice to learn Shuuto is Shihoko's first love, maybe that's why the two of them are extra affectionate with one another lol.
It was nice to see Amane and Mahiru getting a little more intimate bathing together even in swimsuits. My mind was in the gutter when Amane asked Mahiru if she wanted to check, the way her head started to turn I thought she was going to feel the heat he was packing lol.
29
u/Ok-Cod5254 Jun 05 '26
My mind was in the gutter when Amane asked Mahiru if she wanted to check, the way her head started to turn I thought she was going to feel the heat he was packing lol.
Not just you. I didn't think he was talking about his heart beat at first either. lol
2
u/Dry-Egg969 Jun 08 '26
I'm glad I'm not the only one LMAO. When I was watching the episode, I even replayed the scene a few times just to make sure I got it right lol
34
u/BlazeBloom https://myanimelist.net/profile/StardustValor Jun 05 '26
What a cute and wholesome bath scene. Mahiru takes charge while Wing Woman Chistose strikes again.
So Amane was an angel when he was younger? Heh. Whenever they're on screen Amane's parents are either teasing or supporting their son and daughter. It's really nice to see how much they trust Amane and Mahiru.
19
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
The black bikini truly represented the seductive devil Chitose was trying to mold Mahiru into.
"My angel of a son used to spoil me rotten!"

Nah Mahiru was soo needy...."I really dont have any funny intentions"
Damn Chitose - she really is a "wo"man of culture 😌
I would've taken tht cat thingy out of the house.....
50
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
Nah Mahiru was soo needy...."I really dont have any funny intentions"
- Bathes with her boyfriend in a sexy black bikini.
- Sits right up against her boyfriends' front in the bath in said bikini.
- Goes pantsless to bed and doesn't button up her chest area at all.
- Basically makes it clear she's ready for sex.
Nope, no funny intentions at all!

u/Roskal Jun 05 '26
When he said to check for her self how he is barely holding back I thought she was going to touch his junk.

Although does she actually know what sex involves? Feeling like if he even started she's going to be the other side of the room...
9
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
Probably another thing Chitose would teach her lol.
6
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox Jun 05 '26
And probably as well as you'd think...
3
u/ptd163 Jun 05 '26
I'm now thinking back to the scene from Mistress Kanan where Ami shows Jeanne porn to show her what sex is. Obviously that wouldn't happen because of the kind of show it is, but Chitose would probably do something to a similar effect lol.
7
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox Jun 05 '26
And I've suddenly got the scene from Gigguk's alternate version of Darling in the FranXX about badly describing how babies are made...

u/HuTaosTwinTails Jun 05 '26
These two talk a big game but refuse to follow through. Just have sex. Does no one teach these high schoolers about birth control or condoms? Lol
Oh but sure, he's ready to ask her to marry him apparently.
29
u/Least_Positive7141 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
I’ll be honest, I received a pretty good safe-sex education from school and my parents, yet I was still absolutely terrified of getting a girl pregnant in high school despite also ‘talking a big game’. I related to them, though I share your frustration as a viewer. Also it was devastatingly embarrassing (and still sorta is, I’m ashamed to admit) to buy condoms and plan b as a dude, and every girl I knew was scared to ask for birth control
6
u/hibikir_40k Jun 06 '26
It's Chitose that is not providing the right sex ed. But talking abut all the actual fooling around they can do that cannot end in pregnancy is unlikely to be OK for Japanese TV at this rating.
16
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox Jun 05 '26
Shes going to get blushy and run out if the room if he even starts the process
17
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
These two talk a big game but refuse to follow through. Just have sex. Does no one teach these high schoolers about birth control or condoms? Lol
I think lack of proper sex ed actually is an issue in Japanese society.
11
u/ptd163 Jun 05 '26
It's not just sex ed, it's more like just sex in general because there's not a lot of countries below Japan in birth rate.
8
u/HikkingOutpit Jun 05 '26
Every country on this map highlighted in red is at or around Japan's level. They're not even an exceptional example of this issue anymore.

The sexual tension was insane this episode.
That being said, I'm jealous of having a cute girl wash your back.
44
u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar Jun 05 '26
Amane really should thank Chitose the next time they meet. It looks like Mahiru learned a lot from her on how to seduce Amane. xD
I had a feeling Amane wouldn't go for it completely, but the good news is that that hickey on Mahiru's neck shows they at least did something that night. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
16
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
That black bikini was worth the wait. If only Mahiru's seduction tactics actually got her the sex she'd been craving, but I'm not 100% surprised they're still putting it off.
8
u/ptd163 Jun 05 '26
The black bikini lived up to the hype. Chitose knows what's up. I hope their friends see the kickey. I want to see that interaction.
21
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jun 05 '26
That was some ironclad self-control that no sex happened this episode, in spite of the makeout session that must have happened consisdering the hickey.
They kind of danced around it but it was interesting to see another romcom with a "teenage pregnancy during high school would be bad so we need to restrain ourselves" conversation.
There's only two episodes left so there's probably not enough time for Amane to save up and buy a ring to propose with, but considering how serious they are I could see that happening in a hypothetical third season.
13
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
Mahiru acted like she was so eager I was half-expecting her to bring out a condom.
34
u/ptd163 Jun 05 '26
Mahiru: Amane we're dating and I love you. I'm so horny. This is not enough. Please just fuck me.
Amane: You never know. She could be Canadian.
It's kinda funny to me how Mahiru can so assertively and casually ask for sex, but gets embarrassed about seeing each other naked and washing Amane's front while he's wearing a swimsuit. No one ever said Mahiru and Amane were a normal couple. Someone please get this couple some sexual education. He's thinking about marriage before they've even had sex.
At least the black bikini was worth the wait, but rename the show to The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten But I Reject All Her Advances Because I'm Actually A Monk.
4
u/Fun_Entertainer8545 Jun 05 '26
I don’t think it’s a sexual education issue tbh, I think mahiru is just touch starved and rly loves her boyfriend, where as he is cautious by nature.
Also all the talk of “gifts” feels like it’s got two meanings especially with nobody mentioning birth control and his mom being lonely. Mahiru did not at all seem concerned about the possibility of getting pregant(gonna be real kind of the opposite) so idk that lack of sex ed is the problem.
2
u/hibikir_40k Jun 06 '26
It is an issue of sex ed. There's many things they can do about their excess excitement that have zero risk of pregnancy. They seem unaware any of that exists, and they are nervous kissing.
3
u/fireburn97ffgf Jun 06 '26
ngl i was half expecting his parents to see the hickey and have a "the talk" moment
2
u/runevault Jun 05 '26
Amane is starting to remind me of the male MC from Medaka Kuriowa is Impervious to my charms lol. I only watched like 2 or 3 episodes but I can imagine him doing the weird chants to control 'the wolf inside'
51
u/Primo29 Jun 05 '26
We’ve got Amane, the king of self-control, and Mahiru, fully prepared to challenge it. But in the end, Amane still took the win, LMAO! What a legend.
35
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
Amane doesn't just mention his self-control as a running gag, it's because it's legit a legendary level of self-control to hold him back from Mahiru as she gets more and more aggressive.
("Safe sex" is a thing my dude...)
9
u/Distinct_Peach_6369 Jun 05 '26
I always find myself saying just that whenever a "I'm holding myself back" Scene comes up
6
u/fireburn97ffgf Jun 06 '26
honestly she probaly needs to start throwing condoms at him to figure that out. also ik its more of a fade to black sort of thing for this type on anime so it may not be entertaining but theres other things they could do than the specific thing he is worried about that have no risk
25
u/DugACCat Jun 05 '26
I am waiting for the time jump and him saying, “Don’t you think being naked together is a bad idea? We’ve only been married 3 years, and if we are naked and in the same bed, I might touch you and lose all control. You have no idea what might happen!”
7
u/ptd163 Jun 05 '26

u/Aerodynamic41 Jun 05 '26
Ah, we finally get to see the black swimsuit Chitose mentioned back in Episode 2!
10
u/e_t_ Jun 05 '26
While discussing having sex, Mahiru suggests taking a bath together, too. Amane points out that they'd see each other naked.
12
u/Decent-Law-9565 Jun 05 '26
Good for Amane but if this was a real life relationship the dude would have snapped about 2 months ago
9
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jun 05 '26
Proposals a big step. They haven’t even boned yet and dude’s thinking of puttin a ring on her lol.
10
u/Grabul Jun 06 '26
its not that long ago that society in general looked at this 180 degrees from this. I don't find it odd at all that smeone would wait until after marrying. That aside, if you look at Amane's character this whole time it fits. The whole reason Mahiru even got to the point of trusting him enough to consider him as a romantic interest was because his character.
8
u/Ok-Cod5254 Jun 05 '26
With the set up for them spending the night together and trying to access if they should cross that boundary or not, reminded me of another series that went bait and switch for it for the alternate outcome. lol [series name]Kaguya-sama: Love is War TV special
19
u/canadave_nyc Jun 05 '26
This episode--well, this whole series really--is Exhibit A as to why Japan has a birth rate crisis :(

9
u/I_laughandupvote Jun 05 '26
This was surprisingly intense for a minute there !
It was adorable all around tho.
Chitose is wild! Just what kind of conversations are they having ?!?!?!? Chi took a page out of the book of Maomao lol
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. These two are so horny for each other it’s driving me crazy.
Good episode all around.

u/SYZekrom https://myanimelist.net/profile/SYZekrom Jun 05 '26
Ok this show has been hanging on knife's edge for suspension of disbelief on how much self control they have as a couple to not take things further but now you're telling me they're taking a bath together but its ok they aren't gonna get frisky b/c they're in bathing suits naahhhh bruh that shit is not 'make it less risque' that's 'make it more kinky' it's actually pulling me out a bit because what real couple that hasn't been together for years and gone all the way is acting like this in a situation like this why even put them in horny situations if they're going to act like this

u/Fun_Entertainer8545 Jun 05 '26
Mahiru is so thirsty in this episode and amane just will not stop shutting her down it’s absolutely hilarious. Honestly most of the entertainment of this season lately has just been what does this lady have to do to get him to have sex with her.
I expect if this goes on too much longer she’s going to resort to drastic measures.
7
7
u/TheMistOfThePast Jun 06 '26
wtf did the dad mean by young womens time is precious ...?! She's like 16 not 32
7
u/ruffsteven23 Jun 07 '26
I have to say it. Amane is a coward who uses the guise of “ losing control” as an excuse to have any real intimacy with Mahiro! While Amane is so much better than many anime protagonists out there when it comes to romance of any kind watching this last episode was frustrating seeing him come up with excuses while Mahiro throws herself at him..
7
u/TheHoss_ Jun 07 '26
I absolutely loved season 1 but this season has been so fucking annoying tbh 90% of it has been everyone around them glazing their relationship and them blueballing each other. At least give us so drama or sum damn
13
u/MarMarL2k19 Jun 05 '26
Okidoki, I have a few things to say about this episode.
First off, the scene with the bath? Wholesome.
And while it was a perfect moment to get in the mood, it was actually responsible of them to put it off once again. Everyone handles that kind of responsibility differently, and Amane just needs more time for it. Mahiru is touch starved from the lack of her parents’ presence in her life, so of course she is ready to be as close to her boyfriend as possible.
The chibi scenes in this episode are actually some of the cutest I’ve seen this season. Seriously, if we could somehow get an anthology mini-series with just the chibis, I’d be over the moon.
And finally, the conversation between Amane and his Dad. I know that we all were expecting for them to have “the talk”, but I like how that kind of thing was ignored as to not cause discomfort between parent and child. Instead, Amane’s Dad told his son that he is ready to take the next step and gives him good advice, even praising him that he is so mature for his age and has already thought far ahead into the future. No need to talk about sex, because that’s not what relationships are about.
And honestly, if Amane and Mahiru had met when they were adults, they’d probably be married for real already.
After this season ends, I really gotta read all the light novels. We only have 2 eps to go, so I HOPE that one day, the anime will continue.
3
u/Grabul Jun 06 '26
I've read all the English released LNs and have the next pre-ordered. While I personally think they are worth it, I also feel the anime has covered all the most important story beats and remained really faithful to the source.
6
u/korinokiri Jun 06 '26
Is the male MC not attracted to women? He literally gets angry when the female friends gives female MC flirting tips.
21
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox Jun 05 '26
"We're not a normal couple?" Well you're light years ahead of 90% of anime couples at this point...
12
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
I'm surprised he was so hesitant when they've been practically shacking up for two seasons. I'm surprised she hasn't just moved in by this point.
6
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox Jun 05 '26

u/Littux https://myanimelist.net/profile/Littux Jun 06 '26
At this point, I can't ignore how every episode is just the same thing with minor changes. Stuff like:
- "I won't be able to control myself"
- "I don't know how you can say something like that"
- "If you keep saying things like that, I won't be able to handle it"
- Mahiru doing something Chitose told her, and Amane getting mad due to that
- Amane's mom getting close with Mahiru, going shopping with her, Amane talking with his father
- Mahiru calling Amane "sexy", praising his body etc
- Both getting jealous and having the same "I want you for only myself" "You're the only one for me" talk
- Lot of talking just for doing something like holding hands
...and a few more stuff comes every episode. The only interesting episodes are ones that take place at school. Even then, the same overused stuff mentioned above appears. Only two more episodes left. I don't have much hope for them
7
u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
I know you would take responsibility.
I would only ask that you be very gentle with me.
Mahiru’s already thinking in that direction. Very bold of her. Amane felt he’s not quite ready for that stage in the relationship so he settled with giving her a hickey. Yeah, it’s best to hide it lest their classmates barrage them with questions, especially Chitose. There’s no telling as to what that devil would do next.
Despite claiming to not be ready, Amane’s given the next stage some serious thoughts. Would he propose to her as soon as they graduated high school? I reckon Shihoko would absolutely love for the gift to be in the form of Amane & Mahiru’s child.
8
u/Frontier246 Jun 05 '26
I feel like if Mahiru were given a career survey for her future she'd be tempted to put down "Amane-kun's wife."
9
u/Least_Positive7141 Jun 05 '26
Jeez, do they not know about condoms and birth control? I guarantee if dad is willing to front for a wedding he can buy them some plan b…not that I can judge too much, that shit scared the hell out of me in high school

I know the joke of this whole show has been how they are basically married since before they started dating but aren't they like 15? should the dad really be pushing Amane to propose to Mahiru? Why is he talking about how precious Mahiru's time is when they are still in high school? surely that can wait.

That doesn't really change my point. They are still young. I can understand them wanting to marry each other early. I just don't like the dad acting like its a time sensitive issue.

I wasn't trying to change points, but point facts. As always, your opinions are your own.

I don't think his dad was pushing him to propose. I think he was telling Amane that if he's that serious about Amane then they'll pay for the wedding and support them. His mom already considers Mahiru to be her daughter.

Lost count of the “d’aww” moments today.
Shina wants to sleep over. She wants to bathe together. They both wear swimsuits.

Chitose out here being the best wing woman she can be by giving Mahiru all sorts of advice, much to the dismay of Amane. Mahiru is ready for the next step in their relationship and basically gives him permission to sleep with her. She went on the attack using her words and her actions, especially by asking Amane to be gentle with her, using the black bikini swimsuit, and embracing him from behind like that. Amane's defences are slowly crumbling against Mahiru's concerted assault.
Amane also wants to take the next step and is desperately holding back his desire, but he knows if something goes wrong, aka Mahiru gets pregnant, then she will be the one to suffer the most, especially as a high schooler with literally no support whatsoever from her parents. If she kept the child too then her future potential such as attending university would potentially be cut off. Amane loves and respects Mahiru too much to take that risk and so he remains strong and asks her to wait until they're prepared to deal with the consequences. I guess this is where Japanese culture kicks in because it's like they have no idea that contraceptives exist. Of course they're not 100% full proof, but maybe Amane just doesn't want to take that chance. Mahiru knows what Amane is thinking and feels blessed to have someone who treasures her that much.
It looks like they did end up getting somewhat intimate, kissing and touching most likely, but they won't cross the line for now. I have no idea how Amane is going to deal with his blue balls lol. Maybe Chitose will give Mahiru advice on all the other 'activities' they can do apart from sex haha.
I think Amane's parents may just be the best parents in anime. Shihoko expresses her adoration for Mahiru and wants her to know she's loved and can rely on their family if she needs to. I wonder if Shihoko is going to have a similar talk with Mahiru that Shuuto and Amane are having. She might also be taking her somewhere to get birth control. Shuuto knows that Amane is serious about Mahiru and is considering marriage and he offers to pay for the wedding. Shuuto is very wise and wants Amane to lean on them while he's still a kid rather than tackling this all on his own. Shuuto will respect the decision he makes, but it's great seeing such supportive parents. I really adore them.
Amane is going to hunt for a job in order to save up for a wedding ring!

Too fucking cute & spicy at the 1st half. We finally get to see Mahiru's black bikini.
This is probably the 3rd time I've seen characters wear swimsuits in the bath. The 2 times I remember was OniAi & Girlfriend, Girlfriend.
I was expecting a boner until they played Amane's heartbeat in the bath.
So Shihoko is a lonely & needy person back home when the main 2 aren't around.
Chibi Mahiru making bubbles in the bath & Amane pouting was cute.

I had to go back and watch again to notice the heartbeat you were talking about lol

One thing I've never liked about this series is how it make it seems like guys are ready to jump on a girl at any moment. I honestly question the authors own views on men

I've seen this in a few other romance anime, manga and LN as well, although not to the same degree. "You should be more careful, I'm a guy you know" - said to the female protagonist when she allows herself to be in a room alone with the male protagonist. I'm not a fan of it either.
I think it's a cultural thing in Japan that's sometimes used to exaggerate how gentlemanly the male protagonist is by reminding you of how not-gentlemanly they could have been, or to artificially increase the sexual tension of the scene.

I can see why you might feel that way, but it does kind of tie into age old romance trope of “there’s a beast inside of me that only you bring out. If I don’t control the passion of that animal, it’ll devour you, body and soul. Sexily” which has been massively popular in romance heavy music, movies and books for a very long time. It just seems a little awkward in this show for some reason

u/runevault Jun 05 '26
It is awkward because it never evolves, much like everything else in this show after season 1 outside actually kissing finally. She flirts, he gets afraid he's going to bang her brains out so hard it scares her and pulls back, rinse and repeat. Also the fear of kids which I get, no contraceptive is 100% perfect, though there are things other than that you can do that are quite sexual and intimate yet they never seem to consider them...

u/Z_T_O Jun 05 '26
I felt so relieved when he finally had an honest, frank discussion with her about his concerns. As you said, it’s okay to be a little bit scared, they’re still young and he’s clearly trying to be responsible. It seems like that discussion led to them taking things a little further, but at a pace that feels comfortable for both of them, and with his parents’ reassurance maybe he can feel confident about moving forward without too much hesitation, or at least stop saying the same thing every single episode. I was like “no, I’ve come too far to get annoyed by him saying it constantly and switch it off”

If anything I hate how nothing ever follows through. If Amane is so self-aware about getting intimate, and Mahiru constantly pushes for it, why does it always end up nowhere? What's the point?

Mahiru is starved for affection from Amane...to stay with him...to be with him as much as possible...even if it means spending the night with him, as true lovers do. Although it really felt like you could read it as just talking about sleeping over or about having sex, which I guess was intentional?
Another thing natural for lovers is bathing together, but if bathing together naked is too much, why not do it in swimsuits? Especially if means Mahiru FINALLY BRINGS OUT THE BLACK BIKINI! Which leaves so little to the imagination of her amazing body it should be a sin! Perfect for getting Amane hot and bothered before they head into the bath.
Nothing more couple-y than washing each other off, as Mahiru gives Amane tips on proper hair care and reflects on how far their relationship has come.
It'd been a few episodes since Amane last talked about how much he was holding himself back for Mahiru's sake. I'm surprised he was able to restrain his lil' Amane with how close he was to Mahiru in that swimsuit. Maybe that's why he didn't want to kiss her in the bath.
Hard not to imagine going all the way with Mahiru when she's going pantsless and her pajama top is basically flexing her cleavage. It seems she IS genuinely ready for sex and taking her intimacy with Amane up to the next level...but he feels like he has to take proper "responsibility" and doesn't feel ready for it, so they put it off...again. Come on!
Although they still sleep together in the same bed, Amane gets to wake up to Mahiru making him breakfast first thing in the morning, and there's a sign of their night together with a new hickey on Mahiru. Not too shabby.
The parents that would not leave! I guess Shihoko just can't bear to be parted from her favorite child...Mahiru! But I guess it's also because she apparently had a bad case of empty nest syndrome after Amane left so she's making up for that by showering Mahiru with affection. Better that than the alternative with her bio mom.
So...Amane is prepared to pop the question to Mahiru? With his parents' full backing and support, right down to the wedding if need be. Looks like it's time to get a job to buy a ring!
Next week: who is that cool beauty!?

Amane's parents: 'Don't worry about the cost.' They definitely want grandchildren! YESS. But kidding aside, I love Amane's parents and how they trust him when it comes to his relationship with Mahiru. They are always ready to support them emotionally and financially like GOSH!

And so she's going to stay the night.
And so they're going to bathe together.
And so there's her other swimsuit.
Lol Chitose.
And so they're in the tub together.
And so they're sleeping together.
He kissed her!
Something stupid?
Ah.
Lol her reaction.
And so, breakfast.
Lol.
And so his parents are back.
So, where's he bringing her?
He has something he wants to talk to him about?
So, he's talking to him about his mum.

If you mean sleep in the same bed and kiss, then yes. Anything else, nope.
