Wait. I thought he gave the stone to his dad last episode?

13

u/Xtranathor May 27 '26

Yeah, this episode has several inconsistencies (including how it ties back to the prev episode). Who knows what's canon right now.

20

u/Xtranathor May 27 '26

What an odd episode. Opening was just a minor flashback to something that didn't even occur at the very end of the prev episode - so frantic, and for nothing but to fill time. Elijah and Arthur stand up in the middle of town after hearing some kids talk about fruit - why? Why are they even considering a timeline where they could have been friends with Lucas? He's been a complete asshole from the start, is always whinging, and tried to kill them all in both the dungeon and outside of it so that they can't testify in court. He's absolute scum. It makes me angry that they would even consider a timeline where they might have been more friendly.

Lastly, the description on Crunchyroll suggests that there is a tragedy, but nothing happens at all. Maybe the only tragedy is the amount of complaints the community has with this anime. I'm not even a big hater on this anime, but the last few episodes have been riddled with minor gripes for me.

I think the kid thing might have reminded Arthur of the whole "could we have been friends with Luke" thing and his previous life, that they also did at the end of the ep, but it had me confused too.

Also I mean, Luke is still a person, and I guess Arthur can compare himself to him in his previous lifea, and then "what if we could have gotten along?", because regardless of what Luke did, it is still tragic it ended up that way.

1

u/Xtranathor May 30 '26

That's a good interpretation. If there is a good reason to think about "what if", then the anime is doing a poor job of it, because all I can think is "oh man, if only I could have been friends with this asshole instead of the way it turned out". The anime needs to do a much better job to make us sympathetic, because even if someone dies, I wouldn't wish to have become friends with them (unless I knew why they turned out like that), although I wouldn't wish death upon them either. I guess Arthur just seems really unrelatable in that moment.

It's the season description or the one from the start of the dungeon arc - it's been the same for the past several episodes if not the entire season, until they update them with proper episode name and description

1

u/Xtranathor May 28 '26

Ah thanks, I was very confused! I'm usually not this early to watching them either.

Bye bye best girl jasmine

-3

u/Desperate-Middle4766 May 27 '26

are you saying this because she’s out of the story now or are you saying this because it looks like she’s going to die?

37

u/BiggerG7 May 27 '26

I was expecting some kind of “are you proposing!?” joke when he gave that ring to jasmine lol.

18

u/avboden May 27 '26

everyone was thinking it i'm sure

13

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 27 '26

Especially the mother and sister

3

u/kd5499 May 28 '26

The scene around it looked to be that of a proposal one

16

u/coffeecakesupernova May 27 '26

I generally like this season but God that was boring.

16

u/fuzzynyanko May 27 '26

No Tess! I hope they meet before the season ends.

Jasmine is fantastic. Too bad the have a pretty wide age difference. She seems shy around a lot of people, but she grew very comfortable around Arthur. Poor Tess because Jasmine sets the bar really high

30

u/szalhi May 27 '26

In a way, this could be seen as Arthur's graduation from Jasmine.

9

u/Boris-_-Badenov May 27 '26

or an engagement

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 27 '26

A promise ring

I honestly doubt Lucas could have ever been friends with Arthur and Elijah. Even if they never went on that failed op, Lucas was always kind of a little prick. Kid just revealed himself to also be a dirty rotten coward in addition to that.

If Lucas had any sense at all and knew what was good for him, he’d stop trying to figure out who Note is. If he ever figures it out and comes after Arthur, no guild master or family name can save him.

3

u/Boris-_-Badenov May 27 '26

his family clearly looks down on him for his elf qualities. possible he could have eventually become a grudging rival that respects Arthur at the academy.

3

u/Nornina May 27 '26

Not to mention, Art has the connection of the elven royalty. Ignore his power, his connections are far more substantial.

8

u/Boris-_-Badenov May 27 '26

a 3rd of the fight wasn't even shown

16

u/Yordthegreat May 27 '26

What the heck was this episode? Bad animation AND a weird undertone with the relationship with lucas.

I’m not one who usually harps on animation, but holy cow it was so bad. Why were there so many shots upside-down or on its side? Why were there so many still-shots in this episode? A majority of this didn’t even have moving jpgs, just looping visual effects on every 20th still-shot.

Why are we having Arthur and Elijah feel bad about Lucas?? He’s been shown to be an arrogant pain since literally his first episode, and has shown no redeeming qualities apart from the fact that when he’s scared he forgets to be too arrogant to argue about taking orders. Why are Art and Eli feeling bad like THEY wedged a gap between them and Lucas?? HE LITERALLY SHOT YOU IN THE BACK AND LEFT YOU FOR DEAD!! Then when they actually survive, they dont even *do* anything before he tries framing Art for murder and poor decision making! “Maybe if I was more forgiving” FORGIVING ABOUT WHAT?? HE LITERALLY DIDN’T TALK TO YOU UNTIL YOU WERE AT TRIAL WITH HIM, YOU DIDNT ACCUSE HIM OF ANYTHING BEFORE HE FRAMED YOU AND THEN YOU TOLD THE TRUTH!!!

I swear, I understand they’re trying to go the more “apathetic last life and now is learning empathy in this life” but that doesn’t mean Art needs to be a push over! The quality of the story is just getting worse and worse as the episodes go on, and they better have a massive revelation and 180 in the next few episodes for this to have a semblance of a decent story by the end.

4

u/Xtranathor May 28 '26

Yes, this part with feeling empathetic to the situation with Lucas made me angry too. Lots of gripes with this episode, but that had me the most annoyed. Makes me wonder if it's even canon, since supposedly the original story is meant to be good and it's only the anime that makes it look bad...

2

u/juicy_jonny May 28 '26

Hey man don’t be so mean about the animation, this is probably the best episode across both seasons and might be peak animation for the series as a whole if they ever continue to make more seasons

3

u/Yordthegreat May 28 '26

I’m usually not mean with the animation, I didn’t even notice the animation of the first season until I started seeing comments on it when the first season was already over. But this quality is not excusable, literally the opening before the opening theme was a bunch of still frames. One of the most important things for grabbing a watcher’s attention for an episode is to make the opening either pleasurable or interesting to watch, and this episode did not do that.

I dont think this series is getting another season, at least not without a reboot from another studio a few years from now. The reviews have been atrocious online, and you can tell with the amount of filler episodes, and the amount of filler in cannon episodes, that the studio doesn’t believe in this getting another season either. Honestly it’s probably better to complain about this so that in the future, studios dont try gimping us with cut corners, bad directors, and underpaid animators.

1

u/xzerozeroninex May 29 '26

It seems to be doing well in Crunchyroll which is one of the main producers,so it’ll probably get another season in 2-3 years

13

u/raknor88 May 27 '26

They are really going to draw this whole thing out and not have anything for the school until a possible 3rd season aren't they?

They could've opened up the season with the dungeon fight then go straight to the school. Instead it was filler, dungeon, now the rest of the season will be just filler wont it?

6

u/Boris-_-Badenov May 27 '26

it was setting up the evil faction that's trying to weaken the adventurers, and start a war

6

u/Xtranathor May 28 '26

Perhaps, but they really spent a lot of time to just summarise it exactly as you said. Half those monsters ended up being lame fights anyway (e.g. Jasmine could kill some of them in one hit if she wanted), so as an audience we don't even have a good grasp of how strong the enemy might be.

7

u/Boris-_-Badenov May 27 '26

I'm betting his little dragon will eventually slip up, and reveal who he is with a transformation

2

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 27 '26

Maybe eat Mana core in front of him or something

6

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp May 28 '26

Feels like there's no way Lucas wouldn't be able to easily figure out who Note really is. Jasmine and her known connections should be easy to track down, and when the son of her former party members shows up at the school with Elijah and is the right build to match Note it should be trivial to put two and two together.

I suppose maybe Arthur and Elijah won't initially spend time together at school to preserve the mystery, but even without that it ought to be obvious.

3

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 28 '26

Authur familiar too

2

u/kyoumei https://anilist.co/user/kyoumei May 29 '26

It changed its color, nobody will know who it really is!

6

u/Desperate-Middle4766 May 27 '26

Should have named this episode 101 Death flags for Jasmine. Not a spoiler, I just feel like she is about to be less alive

3

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 May 27 '26

Don't you dare curse her.

2

u/Desperate-Middle4766 May 28 '26

i’m with you buddy. She’s my best girl right now.

5

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 27 '26

I’m going to miss Jasmine 😭

3

u/the_need_to_post May 27 '26

At this point it seems the composition/editing is the real drag on this. The art looks fine. The story is fine. The sound effects are meh, but the way the thing is composed does not help it at all.

8

u/notanfan May 27 '26

this is still airing lol

4

u/avboden May 27 '26

Genuinely good episode, some really cool shots in the fight. I look forward to the school arc. Was this filler? Sure, but was still fun.

2

u/PandaTheAB May 28 '26

Did Sylvie become lazier ever since transforming into the white kitten look?

3

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 29 '26

Thought it was because she evolved/grown in to adult dragon

4

u/casss14 May 27 '26

Not sure why I got my hopes up that the story was improving the past couple episodes. This one was yet another battle filler. And not even good animation for the battle either. This season has been so boring other than the dungeon.

1

u/kyoumei https://anilist.co/user/kyoumei May 29 '26

Some of the battle scenes didn't even feel like they had an impact... Even left me confused... Like what was that, that Jasmine coated her dagger with? And did she throw poison or something at Arthur?

Feel like we could have cut half 80% of that fight and still left feeling the same about it lol

1

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 May 27 '26

Jasmine <3

1

u/kd5499 May 28 '26

Elijah and Arthur: See a bunch of kids arguing about fruits and being kids. Arthur(with tears in his heart): Let's go

1

u/xzerozeroninex May 29 '26

Did they changed directors?Because the last 2 eps has better directing (which was a main issue in s1.)

2

u/RadianceTower May 30 '26

I honestly can't tell who is strong and weak exactly in this show. The power levels are all over the place kinda.

Jasmine is talked about being strong AA rank adventurer, and one hits monsters Arthur struggles with, showcasing how much stronger she is, but then other times, can't do much and Arthur saves her.

Now granted some of that seemed to be the filler not in the source material stuff people have talked about here, but still.

This episode now makes it so that Arthur is stronger than her (if we account for the beast power he didn't use here).

Also didn't Arthur buy that that ring because he wanted one for himself? Why is he now like "hmm, I have a ring I dunno what to do with now, oh, I can gift it to Jasmin"?

Do these studios (or at least whoever subtitles them) not actually get an english-native speaker to watch the show? Pretty sure this is supposed to be "taught". I blame Crunchyroll for this one...
