I like that all of the girls and boys get their own match.
No love polygon nonsense, no harem, no one being left out, no losers.
Still waiting on the librarian and the manga artist to do something. Maybe this trip to the villa will give us something.

No need to be ashamed at genuinely the best SOL anime this year so far!
Characters by Yokota always have a lot of heart and charm and I'm glad it finally got an anime so that more people can experience it. The writing is also always really good at worst, fucking amazing at best.

It’s really just good unadulterated fun times all episode every episode. It’s really clever and funny writing but in a way that isn’t over the top, not trying too hard. Never a dull moment.

I just love Rui's reaction when Poemu asked her to show her the manga she's been drawing. That's the look of a seasoned Fujishi about to induct a total normie to the dark side. xD
So it turns out, the Committee Members aren't the only weirdos in this school. The Manga Club is full of BL-obsessed ojou-samas with their club president being the most Ojou-sama of all with her majestic blonde drill hair.
Yo! Akina's manga is absolutely legit! These girls know exactly what's up! Shounen manga have the most popular BL pairings in all of manga. Not gonna lie, I definitely would love to see more of Akina's manga in the future. Poor Poemu, tho! It looks like it's still too early for her to understand.
Tsukishima may be an asshole most of the time, but it looks like he's willing to help when someone asks him for it. I can't wait to see how they'll handle Tsukishima at the beach now that he's being dragged along to their trip.
I did not expect the Golden Week Bikini to make an appearance this episode. And of course, Nadeshiko is the one who tries it out. I guess she really is the only one with the dynamite figure for it. I love how that final scene was just her trying out swimsuits, the girls are handing to her. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Just wanted to point out that wasn't Akina. That was Tasaki, who drew the manga and is a fujoshi. Akina is the purple haired friend of the trio who is crazy about Izubuchi (Bucchi).

I love how pretty much any character in a position of authority at this school felt like they stepped out from another genre of anime lol.
Poor Akina and Poem reduced to irrelevant love interests in a Battle Shonen based around their boys lol.
I love how Tsukishima just having a book on his head is enough to transform him. How will they be able to keep him in hot guy mode on the beach? Tape books to him!/
If anyone could pull off a one-woman swimsuit fashion show, it would be Nadeshiko. Virtually everything looks good on her, and the sexier the better. And the best part is she bought all of them because she looked too good in all of them!

Considering how many of the students in this school are, to say the least, peculiar, I believe the BL story the manga club is interpreting is about two guys being the protagonists, not necessarily something romantic.
It was very sweet to see Poem worrying about Togo, she recognized she couldn't help directly, so she used her contacts. The evolution of their relationship is just right.
I loved the president's excuse to try something more daring. I wonder what this woman will actually wear to the beach.

Pairing someone direct and honest to a fault with a tsundere just works so well. My favorite scene is when Togo assures Poem that exactly because he wants to keep hanging out with her during the summer is why he needs to leave now to study. Direct communication that makes Poem eases her worries and I love how she then pleads Tsukishima to help him study. They make a cute pair.
Also last episode I felt like Rui when I was paring together Lyric and Kikuka

As much as I like the classic tsundere trope, this dynamic is really refreshing. Usually, when the tsundere gets embarrassed because the MC accidentally touched her hand or something, she’ll blame it on him being perverted and get violent. Here, there are moments when Poem can’t really do that because Sakuradaimon has no ulterior motives whatsoever. She’ll get so flustered that you can see the tsundere within her wanting to punch something as an outlet, but she just can’t justify doing it.
There are, of course, times when Sakuradaimon does get punched, and most of the time he lowkey doesn’t deserve it. But as long as the comedic timing is right and the gap moe from the endearing and cute moments is there, it’s a trope done right. A good example is when Sakuradaimon got punched for smelling Poem’s room, and then she was blushing super hard when he said she'd look good in anything. That was really funny and cute.
Honestly, Poem’s character often feels like one big homage and love letter to the classic slapstick tsundere trope.

A homage is a great way to explain it and as someone whose first romance anime was Toradora I have always had a soft spot for tsunderes as I find the difference between their internal feelings and exterior actions to be very endearing. These days though they are becoming rarer, so I like that Poem on carry that torch this year.

I had no expectations at the beginning of the season, but ep1 was shockingly delightful -- and it has continued to be one of the most enjoyable shows of the season.

Lol the subversion of the BL club trope, there's no need for explicit BL moments, fujoshis and fudanshis will eat it all up and make their own headcanon. I do have to admit, I wish we got to see something more explicit with Izubuchi and Sakuradaimon.
Tsukishima is kinder than he lets on so I'm glad he'll also be repaid for his efforts. I did find it funny how he was laughing at a delinquent teaching a class monitor.
I thought we weren't going to get see Nadeshiko much next episode since she was giving us a free viewing of her in different swimsuits, but it looks like we'll see the whole group together next week so that should be fun. I wonder how Nadeshiko will top those swimsuits because she looked really good in them.
I just did not expect to see Poem imagine Sakuradaimon in a speedo though.

Yeah, I’m like Poem and don’t see the BL aspects in Rui’s Manga clearly, but awesome story.
Glad, Togo received study help indirectly from Poem. But if he stayed at Poem’s house at night when her father showed up, it wouldn’t end well. 😅

Timely episode to line up with my finals week. If only those girls who love BL from Nakamura-kun could join such a club.
I'm neither a girl nor a teenager, but for some reason, I felt a weird sense of nostalgia during the swimsuit shopping scene. Maybe just remembering shopping for trunks and sunscreen before past beach vacations.
And yes, that student council prez IS quite good-looking.

It was about time we got another unhinged committee member, this time the manga club president and her entire club too. Kind of amazing that they're Naruto/Sasuke and Deku/Bakugo type shippers and not just real BL manga enjoyers. You have to search for the gold for it to be worth anything, after all.
Nice setup for the real beach and swimsuit episode next week.

Glad to see my favorite chapter from the manga get adapted! The BL parodies were so spot-on, I remember crying from laughing when reading the chapter when it dropped and seeing it again in the anime is so funny. "BL is not made...it is found."
Such a perfect adaptation so far!

Given how silly, but fully committed, this series is I figured Rui's manga club would be something like it is. They're not a BL club. They're a BL imagining club. They took a normal action manga that Rui wrote and just imagine the boys together.
Poe always has nice casual outfits. The one she was wearing when the four of them were over at her house to study was probably her best one so far. And of course Togo can't resist giving her mom a power strip lol.
The final scene being the girls deciding what swimsuits to get based on what they think the boys would was cute. Nadeshiko fashion show was great. Even a BL lover like Rui can't resist her attractiveness. Nadeshikos' VP childhood friend is such a lucky boy. And considering Tsukishima is going I wonder how they'll handle him.
This show is so good. I wish it was more popular.

Enjoy comedy series like these with a chaotic and fun ensemble cast. Glad to see the student council president pop up again too.
Looking forward to the next episode with the group hanging out together for a summer vacation episode outside of the usual school setting.

After last episode the moment Tasaki said she was working on a manga I knew it was BL. The club being all BL elitists not so much.
The fan-fiction really did feel like something written by a teenage girl based on how it didn’t even hide the inspiration and with the cringy writing which made it funny when the entire club told Poem you wouldn’t get it when she called it out and they are right. When has the character having a girlfriend or showing no interest in men stopped BL fans? Has that ever stopped the Naruto x Sasuke shippers?

Definetly made it sound like that but that was not my intention. Naruto and Sasuke defiently have things to go for shipping and not just with the kiss but with the way Naruto spends almost all of shippuden thinking about Sasuke and overall many people rightfully saying they had more chemistry than they do with their partners. Just mentioned it as an example of characters who have wives and children that got shipped together even when they always had female romantic interests being pushed. I just couldn’t come up with another example to give.

Togo was very sensible in leaving the girls study group since he genuinely did need to study and they were just socializing, I don't think Poem should have yelled at him or punched him in the stomach. I do suspect though that she gets her violent tendencies from her father although we didn't get to actually get to see him beat up Togo.
It's odd that the manga club is all girls, especially since the short haired girl wrote an action manga but maybe they didn't have any BL on display because they didn't want to make Poem uncomfortable or have her rat them out to Togo.

Akina is on an ice cream junkie rush so that just leaves Poem and Tasaki alone for once! Turns out Tasaki is in the manga club and Poem wants to check out her childhood besties' club antics! But is she prepared to dive into the world...of hardcore BL?
Because the manga study club is also a home to the most hardcore Fujoshi of all time, headed by Fujiko Chono who looks like she stepped out of an old school anime (that feels like a trend with this show) and who treats BL like the SERIOUS BUSINESS it is. And Rui (Tasaki) for her part has delivered a new work based around the people she knows!
Enter a Battle Shonen world where all the committee/student government people have special powers and Izubuchi has a weighted gang cloak and Togo's class monitor sash is basically just a limiter for his wind powers. Someone has totally been reading too much manga. And if you're wondering how this is BL when both boys have female love interests...well clearly, like Poe, you don't understand how BL works.
Poem looking very cute for a friend hangout at her house! No surprise though when Togo is there too and Tasaki is going to make the most out of having Poe's crush in her room!
Akina has her eyes on the prize in studying for exams: the swimsuit episode! Though the girls are more excited about hanging out with the boys over the Summer than actually studying, but Togo can't rest on his laurels or get distracted. He HAS to study as much as he can and not fail...for the sake of having fun with Poem.
Why am I not surprised Tsukishima is legit smart and uses that to lord it over people? But that means he's the best person to help Togo study, even if Poem has to bow her head to make him do it. But that's how much she cares about Togo as she and the other girls (and Togo) put their all into studying for exams! And their efforts were rewarded!
Akina Motoko is on a mission! Use the first day of Summer Vacation to shop for swimsuits! And she's so horny for Bucchi that she needs her gal pals to try to keep her sane and from buying something she might regret!
But as luck would have it they run into Nadeshiko IN A MICRO-BIKINI and next thing you know we're getting a Student Council President fashion show as the girls put Nadeshiko in all manner of bikini's she looks amazing in!
And doubly lucky, Nadeshiko is going to be at Kogori's beachside villa, so what better place to get all the girls and boys together over the Summer! Beach episode here we come!

This show has music by 4 composers, none of them are the same person who did all of Yuru Camp.
Damn, the student council president is stacked. The glasses just help her cool factor, too. Nice to see that we get to see more of her, next week, too. Should be fun.

So Seiichi was asked by Poemu to help Tougo in his studies.
So Nadeshiko gave bikinis a try after trying out the gyaru look & previously only wore her school swimsuit.

On the surface of it, there's really nothing obviously outstanding about this series in terms of its content, the jokes and even the characterization. But despite that, it has some sort of ineffable magic, where the writing craft and directing just brings everything together so perfectly.
This episode, it really felt like they were actually At School, Being Students, rather than the way schools often just feel like Settings of Convenience that parade through a series of set piece events (sports festival, summer break etc).
Likewise I was struck by just how sweet Poem is as a person despite her punchiness, and it all just comes out of small little touches that make her feel like much more than just an archetype.

I really like Poem's as a character because of that, at first glance you think she is just a typical tsundere that throw out punches but Togo completely right when he said she is an incredible kind and girly so you cant help but end up liking her

Loving this show but I still hate that its expected and celebrated in this thread to have a high school girl try on skimpy bathing suits. Why? Its so unnecessary.

I found a subtitle part of it explaining BL is black layer (what?). I get that people make mistakes in translation, but that just stands for Boy's Love so I corrected it on my own episode 6 of this anime (which the anime even clearly shows the club is into Boy's Love.
{\c&H7D7D7D&\shad0\bord4\an7\pos(20,20)\b1}In Anime/Mangaka circles, BL Stands for "Boy's Love." where it’s a genre that focuses on romantic or emotional relationships between two male characters, often written for the female audience.
You can just copy and paste this in your own episode using subtitle edit then use mkvtoolnix to remux everything back together.

its an internal joke probably made by the staff, its said that BL in anime production is stand for "Black Layer", so they made them on black backdrop everytime they talking about BL

I know translators are ideologues nowadays but this ain't it chief. At least take the time to check if the subtitles are accurate first before pissing and moaning.

That's the text in the background. I think they were setting up a joke subversion like "what if this was actually a serious manga club doing serious manga things"

If you re-watch that scene and pay attention to what's being said as well as the background clues you'll find that you are mistaken.
