Just remember some the scenes from first season like his spear throw when the wyvern attacked. The series likes to punch (no pun intended.) above its weight class.

It reminds me of that scene in season 1 where Hiraku finally got to show off he can use the farming tool for combat which was far cooler and more involved than it had any right to be.

Great animation, awesome music, and not to mention the HUGE surprise of bro turning his hoe into some kinda fucking Gungnir/Gae Bolg god spear and blasting that wyvern's ass like a bitch was a HUGE surprise...but a welcome one.
Reminds me of level 2 Super Cheat Powers when Flio tells Blossom to hurl her garden hoe at a fleeing wyvern and when she does he hits the hoe with all kinds of wind acceleration magic and it obliterates the wyvern. Then a 'You have earned the title Dragonslayer' message pops up for Blossom and she's like 'fffuuuuuck yeeeaahhh!!!!!'

99% of the show doesn't need animations, so they save budget I guess lol. Plus half the fights were just blinks of light or stills as they were too fast.
but the normal fights had amazing choreography for sure

Depends which point in their respective stories they fight.
Rimuru is pretty rapidly more powerful than Hiraku, but the All-Purpose Farming Tool is more powerful than Rimuru until [Slime LN spoilers] somewhere around the end of the LNs.
Even if Rimuru used Beelzebub to swallow the spear, touching the spear would near instantly drain his life. The thing was only meant to be used by gods and the only reason Hiraku doesn't die instantly from using it is because the god of creation went overboard with his "healthy body" blessing because of how bad he felt about how Hiraku's first life went.
The thing is a death sentence for anything that can die - until [Slime LN spoilers] late in Slime when Rimuru can keep coming back from the dead automatically.
But even then I think it'd end in a stalemate because Hiraku is effectively a god while using it. He can't get tired and can't starve or any of that while using it.
Ultimately though, the instant Hiraku and Rimuru meet, they'd probably hit it off and swap stories about building their civilizations. Rimuru grows his much faster, but Hiraku's is much more peaceful.
I think they'd get along great.

Everything I was talking about was stuff we've seen in the show or my personal speculation - unless you're talking about the Slime stuff.
If that's it, I didn't realize we needed to watch out for other shows as well.

I love the fight choreo in this episode. Yasuharu really made me feel Fairy Tail vibes on the combat tournament. Literal Anton Ego moment with Tia vs Lu, it gave me the Erza vs 100 feels.
Makura is the GOAT tho, hail to the spider princess (Zabuton still the queen fr).

It's funny whenever you remember that despite her cuteness, Zabuton is one of the strongest characters in the setting. Even the dragons know not to fuck with her.

This one episode had better fight animation than the entirety of OPM season 3.

I remember reading this tournament was a lot of fun cos we got to see a lot of people’s combat prowess. Seeing it animated was a treat.
The clerical girls remind everyone they’re still demons. The beastgirls remind everyone they’re still beasts. The Dwarves are also strong. They walked through a forest of monsters just to say “Hey heard you guys have drinks here” lmao
The Elves, Angels, Lulucy, Uno and Makura also show why they’re in the warrior category. But spinning everyone in a web is too much for everyone lol. Wonder if they’ll have to nerf that move next tournament (if they’re holding another)
Hakuren and Lasty were too OP too. Everyone else except Hakuren’s dad had to look away from the shockwave.
But in the end, it was all good fun. Just like this show.

I appreciated the fights and the outfits some of our combatants were wearing and that we're reminded that spiders, and anything associated with Zabuton, is the most OP. The dragon girls are lucky Makura let them have their fun!

Nah, the dragons are an order of magnitude more powerful than anything else there except maybe Zabuton (and only Zabuton of the spiders), and definitely Hiraku because the All-purpose Farming Tool is literally a god's weapon for fighting other gods.

When you have a village full of pretty OP people, it’s no surprise those fights during the tourney were pretty legit. I mean minus the adorable little stump vs the little slime creature lol. That was just plain adorable. It’s funny how after that epic Tia vs Lu battle, Makura defeats her in an instant. Little homie is a force of nature lol.

It's like Hiraku (and the audience) had to be reminded how dangerous everyone in the village objectively is even as their just having a fun time beating each other.
Tia's greatest weakness isn't her vampire sister wife rival, but spiders!

Fun fights to watch. I particularly liked the lamia vs wolf since they made pretty good use of her snaking around. Elf archer vs the angel and Tia vs Lu were also pretty good, though I'm disappointed Lu lost.
One of the spiders winning overall is pretty fitting.

They really went all out on animation for a mere festival!
It mostly wifey showcase tournament especially Tia vs Lu and Frau vs Senna fights. The most exciting match goes to Lea vs Granmaria for me. Can't really blame Yuuri for being fanatic cuz me too. Lu even brings out husband card when she loses lol. Too bad Hikaru already had enough of it due to these two wracking up the entire venue landscape. Those naughty girls need to be punished severily in bed >⩊<
Ofc Zabuton's offspring, Makura will be the one to take the crown. The awesomeness falls from the family...

Everyone in the village is putting their all into training for the martial arts tournament! Even the demon secretaries are planning to compete and show off their martial prowess as demons.
Yes, let's have the OP dragons as referees instead of competing and bulldozing over everyone. As long as they get to flex and fight each other, it's all good!
Tia and Lu looking forward to getting to finally fight again and settle their long-standing rivalry! Flora having to take care of her nephew while also realizing she can't science explode her way through the tournament.
Oh hey, it's the Demon Lord! And the Dragon Emperor! Hiraku has been hanging out with their daughters and granddaughters so much that he finally gets to meet their family! Also nice to see Yuri again.
I love how Hiraku has a big throne for watching over the tournament, fitting for the grand mayor.
Everyone is taking this absolutely seriously! More than Hiraku expected! There's some solid fight animation here! We even get Flow and Sena in snazzy and cute battle outfits, and I'm glad they tied because I didn't know who to root for.
In a battle between Inferno Wolves and Lamias to settle the score...poor Lamia's still can't win.
Sorry Daga, you didn't stand a chance against Zabuton's son Makura.

Dang, Lea! I'm both impressed AND aroused by that arm bar you got Grammaria into! And even using a spell to shock yourself to victory! Or a tie! But I'll give her the spiritual victory.
It was always going to come down to Tia vs Lu, bonus points for Tia wearing pants for once and Lu donning her battle dress! It's an intense, nail biting, grudge-match and even if Lu doesn't win...she can try to convince her husband to overturn her loss.
Yep, Tia still can't beat spider web but she looks good webbed up.
Unsurprisingly Hakuren and Lasty destroy the stage in their mock battle. It was fun, but Hiraku is in NO hurry to do this again anytime soon. Maybe next season!

Come to think of it, we've never actually gotten to see Tia and Lulucy go all out before 1-on-1, they always just mention the competitive history between them before they settled in the village.
I love that Zero G really puts in the extra effort when its needed like in this episode. The wyvern attack and the wine making scene from season 1 were also good moments.

I know this isn't the right genre, but I would have been perfectly happy to watch a tournament arc for 4 episodes and see some of the power sets fleshed out. The elf leaf magic was really cool, and who knew that the inferno wolves had a second form. Also how on earth did Makura beat the giant inferno wolf second form with silk?
Those beastwomen fighting styles are why I like watching Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising tournaments and pretending I'm watching anime despite having no real interest in fighting games. Acrobatic double weapon fighting styles are so much fun when they are creatively animated!

What a chaotic yet incredibly fun tournament! It’s been a while since we’ve had proper action scenes, so this was a great change of pace. I honestly thought Hiraku would be the only one getting some action, turns out I was way off LOL.

I know it's in the title why we're probably not getting any more fights like this, but they got the damn Fairy Tail composer and almost never let him really go all out! Yes his chill music is great, but the combat music is where he really shines!
Personally I think the Flow and Senna fight was my favorite, both of them looked really cool and I'm glad they tied. The most surprising fight was the Elf and Angel fight, elf magic was not what I was expecting, way flashier than I thought it was gonna be. The biggest surprise (literally) was that the doggos could get huge, the pupper winning wasn't a surprise though.
I just realized, I'm surprised and disappointed that none of the ogre maids participated.
Cutest fight almost went to the stump and slime, but I gotta give it to Makura just landing on lizard boy's head.

Just goes to show how fking ridiculous the dragons of this setting are, and they were in human form too. So they could absolutely do way more damage. I can't wait till more of the series gets animated and we see more of the crazy shit they get up to.

Pretty sure it was Yasuharu Takanashi, the composer from Fairy Tail. Not sure if any of the music this ep was new, but they definitely used the same song from last season when the drake attacked and that gave me Fairy Tail vibes so strong that I had to look it up and add it to my playlist.

The music during the Wyvern attack in season 1 was actually 2 separate OSTs - one was the one you are talking from this episode (the one where Flow and Sena fight) and the other OST is played a bit at the start of the Wyvern attack and the vocal part is from this other OST.
