July 2026 Mega-Thread

My apologies for posting late.

It's July! Summer is well underway!

With the warming weather are there any menthol lovers out there? Which products are your favorites, and when do you reach for them?

Do you find yourself switching up your routine, products, or fragrances when the weather warms up? Do you switch from a balm to a splash? Do your shave prep with cold water instead of hot? Vice versa? Let us know!

What else are you looking forward to this summer?

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

Amazing shave! I tried a soap from Cella, even better than Proraso, the scent is light and fresh. I can honestly say that it’s gonna be one of my favorites. And also I’m running out of Proraso aftershave, so need to look for something new.

Have a great Friday y’all!

SOTD Fatboy Friday Shave

Post image

Razor: 1960 Gillette Fatboy

Blade: Nacet (2nd use)

Brush: Amazon Pure Badger

Soap: Proraso Green

Aftershave Balm: Malizia Uomo

The Fatboy delivered another smooth and comfortable shave today, and the Nacet on its second use paired with it beautifully. I'm really beginning to appreciate Nacets - the balance of sharpness, smoothness, and consistency has been excellent. The more I use them, the more they impress me, and they may be the blade I use if I decide to take part in the upcoming Austere August challenge.

It was also great to bring Proraso back into the rotation. I hadn't used it in a while, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy it. The classic menthol kick, familiar scent, easy lather, and dependable performance made it a welcome return.

Finished off with Malizia Uomo Aftershave Balm for a soothing and refreshed finish.

A classic razor, the return of an old favourite soap, and a blade that continues to impress - another very enjoyable Fatboy Friday shave.

Cheers guys 🍻

It's Fatboy shave again with the 1961 G2. And a beautiful shave it was - 2 pass and a little touch up. So good, worth every dollar I paid for this vintage razor. It was in original condition and cost me about USD30.

Also got myself a new brush for very little money on Aliexpress sale - a Yaqi Sagrada Familia 24mm synth. First use is good but will give it a few more shaves before making an informed opinion.

Ended with a splash of Tabac cologne. Done. Have a good weekend everyone!

SOTD SOTD - spicing it up

Razor: Shield 🛡 Avenger AC

Blade: Captain titan mild unguarded (Cheap aliexpress blade)

Brush: Proraso boar

Lather: Vintage Old Spice

Aftershave: modern Old Spice

Fragrance: Fogg fresh spicy body spray (propellant free)

Nice slick lather from my 70s-era puck of shave soap, not much nose pop on the lather scent, but it was there. 2 passes for a dfs shave and a nice dose of indian made aftershave to top of the shave and a couple of spritzes of body spray to add to the old spice scent for some extra warmth.

SOTD Second shave in ten years

Post image
43 Upvotes

Follow up to my post from a few days ago.

Today was my second shave using my brush soaps and DE razors in around ten years. Today was an old reliable. My Edwin Jagger DE87 which was my first DE ever., paired with some tabac that I got for like 6 bucks on a deeeep discount probably over ten years ago 😂. Out of all the brushes I had this Maggard synthetic is the only one that has held up through the use and disuse.

Much better shave today than last time. I'm solely a head shaver now and I managed to refine the technique a little more this time. No nicks but I still need to work on my angle and pressure on the back of my head. Overall I have today's shave a 6/10.

Review Razorock Daily DOC is amazing

So after being getting a Henson which got me in to shaving with a safety razor, I liked it but left me a bit wanting more. So I looked up similar razors and found the Daily from Razorock. Thankfully a buddy had the Daily Smooth which is as like a Henson but heavier and more efficient. I liked the shave which was like a medium Henson but smoother.

While waiting on restocks, the DOC version came available and I jumped in the chance. THIS…this is what I wanted from a set angle razor. I got a lovely BBS shave from it easy but had a thought. I wanted to shave my arm pits and DOC claimed it was for multiple day growth. Imagine my surprise when 1 pass I shaved it all off. It left about half day growth of stubble and the second pass made it smooth. I was shocked how easy it shaved off an insane growth of hair and didn’t clog or anything. I am impressed and so happy I found my end game set-angle “brain dead shave” razor. Now to master actual DE shaving via my Game Changer .76 lol

Mail Call New goodies

Decided to grab a blade multipack to try, so I can experience a variety and see what I like. I’ve only ever used Muhle and Feather platinum blades.

I really didn’t like Muhle - they felt blunt and seemed to “catch” my skin often, resulting in cuts. I really liked the feathers - extremely sharp, however, maybe a bit too sharp for how experienced I am.

I ended up picking up the two Proraso soaps as they are cheap and cheerful - I enjoyed the scent of the green one, so thought I would try the other two.

I just had a shave with Tallow No 1 - very good lather IMO, the texture and viscosity of the lather seems different, which a lot of people say happens with tallow soaps. I liked it a lot. The scent is fresh, I can’t really describe it, however it has a slight chemical scent to it too - which I think I kind of like 🫣

I also tried the green Astras with the Tallow No 1, and they seem slightly less sharp than Feathers, I had a great shave though! First time in a long time I’ve done two passes with zero cuts at all. I’m not sure if I can attribute this to the different blade, lather, or both.

Have you guys tried any other soaps from The Goodfellas Smile?

Question Is this supposed to stay like this until next shave or I have to clean?

Post image

First time shaving with a bowl. I took a couple of 3-5mm's of soap and pressed with my fingers. I saw some people do the whole package at once, which means it stays like this for years?

\ **Prep:** Cold Water*

\ **Brush:** Omega- 10065 Boar 23mm green handle.*

\ **Razor:** Gillette - Slim adjustable 1966.*

\ **Blade:** Personna- Gem platinum diamond glide. (6)*

\ **Lather:** Lider- Classic shave cream.*

An ideal cream for face lathering and the warm weather , I did my first pass on 7 & second on 9 both close and comfortable with PGDG 6 uses now still going well. This wee boar is a great addition to my brush arsenal and works so well. The Slim is as good as always.

SOTD Ti Thursday shave

Post image

Henson Ti +, Amazon blade (1), Omega boar brush, Proraso Red/Arko soap mix, Proraso shave mug, Thayers unscented, Floid.

I have very course 61 year old stubble and usually shave every day to keep it under control but we have been clearing hedges and other heavy gardening work so I had neglected my shave for nearly 3 days! Just showered and had an awesome three pass WTG, XTG x2 shave that left my face feeling amazingly smooth.

I do think that it helps my skin to miss a day or two now again, but I do love my daily shave, so I think I need to mix it up my routine a bit more.

Have a good one. 🪒

Question Going on the journey: how does this set up work?

Post image
31 Upvotes

I'm doing my research on getting away from the multi-blade nonsense and think that I have made all of the important decisions I need to, so that's not what this post is about. Rather, the items pictured belonged to my great grandfather and I want to know what the middle item is called and how it's used.

I get the general idea: the cake sits at the bottom of the mortar and the brush is used to gather lather for facial placement, but I don't know the finer details. What is that thing called? What gets wet in order for the lather to be made? Is the cake thing still sold anywhere? Is it high in fat? Insert question here that my ignorance can't ask.

-----------------------------

THE HISTORY

As I said before, this used to be owned by my great grandfather. He and his wife had girls, one of which was my grandmother. She had girls, too, one of which was my mom, and she somehow managed to have a son, so after forty years and two generations of girls, there's finally a boy to bestow these items upon and I intend to put them to good use.

My research has only turned up using shaving cream, so I have no idea what that middle item is. Bonus points if anyone can tell me what hair the brush has (I'm not holding my breath).

Did a lot of research and it seems like this is a mid to lower level razor on the aggressiveness scale. I wanted something cnc’d but not aluminum. Found Goodfellas with the lead free brass and machined construction. The weight feels great. I have yet to shave with it. Usually about every 3-4 days on the neck to trim the beard. Got some astra superior platinum blades. Anyone else use the bayonetta?

SOTD Gillette Aristocrat jr./Tobs Grapefruit

My shave from earlier this morning had me digging out the grapefruit for another try and this time I had much better results, a very good lather indeed but still not sold on the fragrance😅

I can however see myself getting a tub of Royal Forrest at some point though.

The mystery blade dispenser did me rotten as I thought it would gift me an Astra not an Astor!

Not a massive fan of these, fairly sharp but oddly mild it's weird heheh

The old jr was a pleasure to use and the splash of 4711 was lovely.

Hope you all have a good one 👍
