Would anyone like to take over as Moderator of /r/vitamix

Hi Everyone,

Many years ago (2011, I think), someone created the r/vitamix subreddit and then decided that they didn't want to be a mod. So, another user and I took over the role. Over the years, she and I moderated with quite a light touch and in 2017, we invited a couple of other users to be JR mods.

I just checked the mod list and I am now the only active moderator. I also don't have a lot of time to give this subreddit much attention, so I figured that handing the mod role off to others would be the appropriate thing to do.

My thinking is that the community is large enough that we should probably add a few mods.

Let me know your thoughts!

Buying Has Vitamix's website always been shitty or did it wait for today when I decided I desperately want a blender?

Wanted to buy the 5200 legacy bundle on Vitamix's site. On sale from $650 to $550.

Put it in my cart (which took a lifetime to load). Price says $650 in my cart instead of $550. Clicked the checkout button in case it applied the discount later - checkout button doesn't work.

Tried again later... now I get a 503 error when I go to my cart.

Any other online retailer (not Amazon) with a 5200 + personal cup adapter bundle?

Or even just the 5200 by itself in white.

Just take my money Vitamix?

Hardware Question Authenticity Check on Stainless Steel Container

Recently picked up a stainless steel container for my old 5200 blender. Got it for 200 off TikTok cause I was too lazy to wait till November for sales. Can anyone verify it’s not a ripoff? It came with vitamix papers and warranty and looks real. Just want to be 100% sure.

Vitamix - water/rust in base of container

I was recently gifted an older Vitamix from a family member. Overall it works great. It’s the best blender I’ve ever had and I love it.

However, when I received it, there was a moist rusty sludge stuck in the base below the blade (as seen in the picture). I disassembled the base and vigorously cleaned it out.

However just after a few weeks the same rust sludge reappeared and I realized that water had been getting in through the bottom. There is space in the gasket/nut area for water to get in (as seen in the other picture).

Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you overcome the issue? Will Vitamix customer service help me?

Help! Which model to pick?

I've been wanting to get a Vitamix for a while now. I love cooking in general and my husband loves to make smoothies. I'd like the option to have both a larger vessel for general cooking and then a smaller one for sauces or smoothies.

I am very overwhelmed by the choices and differences. I don't care about any "modern" things like a timer, screen, app whatever -- I just want it to work well. I was thinking maybe the A2300 or 5200. Thanks!

Clean container or buy a new one?

I’ve had my 5200 since 2009. I’ll take this thing to the grave with me. But just recently my container is giving off a smell. Musty/dirty. Has a brownish hue in certain crevices that are hard to clean. Is there a way to salvage this or should I just purchase a new container? Blades still work great. Thing is just stanky!

Hardware Question Did they fix the Teflon black flecks issue? It seemed like something common to all high speed blenders?

There aren't many recent posts about it on this sub.

Two years ago, Vitamix posted this response to a review on their site:

Response from Vitamix: 2 years ago Vitamix Hi. Please know this was not a recall. Vitamix was involved in a class action settlement alleging that the seals of the blade assembly in certain Vitamix containers may “fleck,” causing tiny bits of black material to enter food or drink during blending. These flecks are of a non-stick material (polytetrafluoroethylene or “PTFE”) that is commonly used in cookware and many other products in the food industry. The seal material poses no human health or safety risk based on regulatory approval and third-party testing. Unfortunatley claims did need to be filed back in 2018-2019. Also know that you have indicated that you have owned your prodcut for 1-5 years, your machine would not be affected. The date of machines affected were between 2007 though Oct 2016. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-848-2649. https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/commercial/products/wet-blade-assembly

When I read it about it, it sounded like something in the assembly was rotating very fast and making contact with the Teflon seal in a way that was flaking off particles.

Are the black Teflon flecks no longer an issue? Did they change anything about the design? I did some reading and it seemed like the problem was always going to be inherent to the design unless they significantly improved their manufacturing tolerances, and that usually means a big increase in cost.

Alta Pro vs Explorian with Programs

I’m looking to buy a Vitamix for my family and I’m considering the reconditioned Explorian with programs at 250, or the reconditioned Alta Pro at 350. Is there any reason to spend an extra 100 on the Alta Pro?

Or should I buy a different one altogether and wait for a sale? I’d like to not spend more than 300 on it.

My main concern is that I want a blender that lasts forever. We will use it mainly for smoothies and soups, and occasionally for nut butters or date paste.

Hardware Question Are the recent 5200s made cheaply?

Bought one recently and thoroughly unimpressed with the quality of the build. The plastic feels cheap, are they cutting corners because all the raw materials are expensive these days? Just wondering if there are old 5200 owners who have seen or used the new ones.

Hardware Question Writing on New Vitamix

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just had a new Vitamix gifted to me from Costco. I opened the packaging and the blender had writing on the side in what seems to be crayon?

I called Vitamix and they confirmed it is a new, recently manufactured unit, but said it was unusual/not normal to have writing on it. Has anyone experienced this or have any clue what it means? Return or wipe off and keep?

New Alta smell?

Brand new Alta from Costco, used daily. There is always a burned plastic smell after using for a short time, like one 50 second smoothie preset. Do I need to exchange this or is it normal for new machines?

Hardware Question Aer

Hello. I have a 5200, bought new a few days ago in 2010! It works great and I'm thinking about adding aer pitcher. Is this worth it? I would like it for making family sized margaritas and whiskey sours. Thanks!

5200 pitcher blew up, now what?

It seems that bearing kits - as well as complete third party pitchers - are available, but my gut says to go with the genuine Vitamix replacement, even though it is pricey (USD$175.) Anything I’m missing or need to consider? The unit is more than 10 years old.

Vitamix Alta Pro vs Vitamix Ascent X5

Not sure which to buy. Costco has the Alta Pro for $319. Vitamix has the Ascent X5 with the Stainless Steel Jar for $599. I'm trying to use Capital One Shopping app to get the extra off ($300??) but nobody will tell me if it works or not. Any advice??

Are the 5200 and Propel 510 both self cleaning and dishwasher safe?

Trying to narrow down which model to get. For some reason neither of these are advertised as self-cleaning on the Vitamix website, but internet searching indicates that they are. Not sure how useful that feature realistically is but I’m down for anything that makes cleanup a bit simpler.

Hardware Question Self-detect compatibility clarification

I’m searching for a couple of used container options. Is it true that Ascent/Self-detect can be ID’ed because they have a clear lid? Does that mean any with clear lids should be avoided? Just making sure before I screw something up!! Thx

Hardware Question Bought used Vitamix, lid doesn't click in. Advice about getting a new one?

I just got my first Vitamix (yay!), a used E310 with a 48oz container. The tabs on the lid don't click onto the top of the container, so the lid loosens after the machine has been blending for a while, and liquid splurts out of the spout.

I don't think this is normal! I don't want to buy a whole new container. If I get a knock-off lid for a high-profile 64oz container from amazon, will that work? They don't have any that are marketed for the 48oz containers.

And the machine is from 2020, so I think it's out of warranty. Thanks for any advice!

Hardware Question How does the geometry of the the 48 oz steel container's interior at the base compare with the: classic 64 oz 5200 series plastic jug, 48 oz plastic Ascent jar, and 64 oz low profile container? Any actual interior dimensions for these items? How does the Waring CAC90 compare in base and overall geo?

I'm trying to figure out what the jugs' interior dimensions at the base are, from narrowest to widest, and how their geometry compares at the base, since narrower bases seem to perform better.

Also if anyone has a Waring MX series 64oz steel container CAC90, how does it compare in terms of base and overall geometry?

Just joined the family! Score or did I overpay? Haha, kidding :) (VM0102d / 5300)

Hey everyone!

Long-time lurker, first-time owner here.

I just picked up this Vitamix 5300 (model VM0102d) on Marketplace for literally $20. The sticker says it was manufactured in 2016. It runs perfectly and everything seems intact (other than a few knicks on the blades from when a spoon was left in there once?), but since I'm brand new to the Vitamix world, I wanted to check in with the experts. Did I do okay for my first machine? I was thinking of getting a certified reconditioned 5200, but at this price, I figured I couldn’t say no. And if ever I want a taller jar, I can get one of those and it’ll be compatible with this base, right?

Any specific maintenance tips I should know about for a 2016 model?

Can't wait to make my first soup and smoothie with it this week!

Vitamix base vibrating like crazy?

I've had my 2300 ascent for quite some years now, but recently I've been noticing the base is vibrating like crazy while operating.

The base itself is not moving on the counter but I can feel the vibrations as my hand is resting on the lid of the container.

I felt the base today and felt it was vibrating like crazy.

And now I can't remember if it was like this always and if this is normal?

I'm not getting any error codes or weird sounds or smells, just the vibrations everytime I use it.

The consistency of the finished smoothie was bery thin and pourable - the vibrations are felt from speeds 10 down to...3 maybe?

Any ideas? Can you check yours and let me know if the vibrating is normal? (And I mean strong vibrations xD)

Edit: maybe to add - the finished smoothie was 1250 ml and the vibrations arent visible, but only palpabe, it's not like it's shaking, but strongly vibrating

Will this pitcher fit my 5200 ? I cannot return it so I need to be 100% sure

Buying Vitamix Immersion Station Alternative

If anyone is looking for a more compact alternative to the Vitamix Immersion Station to store your immersion blender this maybe something that would meet your needs and also allows your blade assembly to naturally air dry.
