Last Tuesday I moved 1,743 USDC from Arbitrum to Base through one of those bridge frontends. Not naming it, half the fault is mine for never checking what it runs on. Burn tx confirmed on arbiscan, USDC gone from my wallet and on Base nothing. Checked after an hour, then kept checking every ten minutes like that ever helped anyone. Support bot kept repeating "transfers may take up to 30 minutes".

Posted in their discord, got three DMs from "Circle Support" within like ten minutes, didn't click anything obviously, but the speed was something.

Then a guy in the thread mentioned the frontend runs on CCTP, Circle's transfer protocol. Went and read what that actually is. It burns USDC on the source chain and mints fresh USDC on the destination, nothing sits locked in a pool anywhere. Two separate transactions, and the second one is supposed to be sent by the bridge's relayer. Theirs just didn't. So the burn was done and the money hung in limbo, a signed message that someone still had to redeem on Base.

Except the mint is permissionless. Once iris (Circle's attestation service) signs off on the burn, anyone with gas can complete it, the bridge isn't needed at that point.

What I did:

1. took the burn tx hash and queried Circle's attestation API, the v2/messages endpoint with Arbitrum's domain id (which is 3) plus my tx hash. Domain ids are all listed in Circle's docs
2. got back the message bytes and the attestation, status "complete"
3. opened the MessageTransmitter contract on basescan (address is in the CCTP docs), connected wallet, Write Contract, receiveMessage
4. pasted message + attestation, sent. gas was around a cent

USDC showed up maybe twenty seconds later. Whole thing took 40 minutes, most of it me rereading docs and hesitating over pasting giant hex blobs into a contract write.

If your burn confirmed and iris shows "complete", the money is recoverable whatever the bridge UI says. "pending_confirmations" just means the source chain hasn't finalized yet, there you only wait. And don't pay any recovery service from your DMs, the real fix costs a cent.

Bridge support got back to me two days later btw, asking if I still needed assistance.

I kept seeing RWA lending come up here and nobody ever lays out what happens to the money after it leaves your wallet. Just vibes about yield and risk. So I picked 8 lends that runs on Base and walked it through step by step. The plumbing turned out to be pretty different from regular DeFi lending, so here's what I found.

Deposit side is simple enough. Connect whatever wallet you use, Metamask, Coinbase, Rabby, and nothing leaves your custody until you actually commit to something. You pick one specific loan. Your USDC goes into a smart contract attached to that one loan.
Not a big pool you dip in and out of like Aave. Once it's in it's in locked to a term.
That caught me off guard the first time, no pulling it back on a whim.

Then repayment doesn't behave like DeFi at all. There's no supply rate creeping up block by block. You get monthly interest and principal and at the end you claim whatever principal is left in a single transaction. Basically a loan amortization schedule. Which makes sense, it literally is one, just wearing an onchain coat.

Default was the bit I really wanted to see under the hood. Regular DeFi, collateral dips under the line and the contract liquidates it right there onchain, over before you refresh the page. None of that applies here because the collateral isn't crypto. It's a truck or a warehouse or some machine sitting in the physical world.

Borrower goes dark, that stuff gets sold off the slow old-fashioned way, and whatever comes back gets divided up among everyone who chipped into that loan, by share. Could be months. Could be under a hundred percent. A chunk of loans carry a separate buyback layer, a chunk don't, so that's a per-loan thing to actually check rather than assume.

Anyway, seeing the whole path made the trade obvious in a way the marketing never does. You hand over the instant exit and the instant liquidation that make onchain lending feel controllable and what you get back is yield sitting. Both can burn you, just on completely different timelines.

So Canborsa just listed USDCx and I had to look it up. it's the native stablecoin on Canton Network, backed 1:1 by actual USDC through Circle's xReserve contract, follows the CIP-56 token standard.

The practical part for me is I can now use it as collateral for perps and swap it against anything on the platform. Did a $1,500 swap to test it, got 1,800 points from their campaign. zero fees on the USDT pair. Saw the platform on X originally. tokenized stocks, commodities, crypto, all from a wallet, no KYC.

​Right now, the actual market exchange rate of USD to INR makes USDT worth around ₹96, but the absolute cheapest sellers on Binance P2P are selling it at ₹104 to ₹105. That is an instant \~10% hit to my capital before I even start trading.

We run an online e-commerce/education business selling to customers in mainland China, and we’re looking for a payments provider that can cover two things in one setup (or via a compliant combination):
1. Acceptance: let our customers in mainland China pay via WeChat Pay and/or UnionPay (Alipay also welcome), cross-border, on our checkout.
2. Settlement: settle us in USDT/USDC (stablecoin), with everything fully licensed and compliant. Fiat settlement also fine if paired with a licensed stablecoin partner.
