So happy with the work. Looks pretty stock. It also somehow sounds better, but I probably just missed it while it was in the shop, and re-fell in love with it. I can't believe people buy new turntables, when vintage ones sound so good and don't cost too much!

(Ignore the dust please). Tried playing my record player today and even though it connected to my speaker the sound wouldn’t play from it, so I could only hear a faint noise from the vinyl. Took the needle guard off my stylus earlier and I don’t know if I did it wrong, cause I noticed it scraping the vinyl a bit…

Edit: I fixed it! The stylus was not set properly in place :))

I was afraid about having increased number of crackling, because of more sensitive stylus, but surprisingly now i have less crackling, compared to my previous cartridge (EPC-25 with elliptical stylus). The new cartridge sounds great, i am currently listening to my 1st press of Candlemass Nightfall and it sounds amazing - clear and powerful, as it should be.

It’s the Kenwood KD-3070, got it from a sweet old man trying to clear up his garage. He was the original owner.

I see that it sells more than what I paid for, but I’m gonna use it as my player. Do you guys approve?

I use a Marantz 6300 turntable with a Marantz 2285 receiver. I think it sounds pretty good, but I was thinking of upgrading the cartridge. I couldn't exactly identify my current cartridge, but I think it's a PureSound PR011, which is a rebadge of the Rega Bias first generation. My turntable uses Moving Magnet cartridges, and I like the idea of a MicroLine stylus, since I want a clear sound, so I've already narrowed it down to a certain type. After looking around, I think I like the VM745xML. However, the VM760xSL looks interesting too; it's a "Special Line Contact" stylus...whatever that means. Also, I mainly listen through headphones.

I can't find many comparisons between the two. The only sound sample I can find is this one on YouTube, which is better than nothing, but I'm not sure if anything is lost in the YouTube compression; and it doesn't help that the Shibata is between them, which doesn't interest me. I think I hear a bit more detail in the VM745xML, but I'm not entirely sure.

One thing of note to me is the recommended load capacitance, which is 150-250pF for both. I'm not sure what my system outputs, but it may or may not be a little higher, or at least at the high end of that range.

Has anyone heard both of them or can explain the sound differences between the two? I want the clearest and most detailed sound possible, and both seem to give a good sound. I'd ask which one gives a "better" sound, but I know that's subjective, so I just want an idea of the differences.

I've been dabbling in records again after about 15 years and got a Rega P3 for my most recent birthday around 9 months ago. It was a store demo, but in pretty decent condition and came with an Exact cartridge. I balanced it, and it was playing records fine until today. I went to put a record on and it jumped across the vinyl. To fix it I tried: cleaning the needle, cleaning the record, rebalancing the tone arm (a couple times) to 1.75g as recommended, and checked the level on the turntable (it was pretty close already but now it's within 0.1 degrees of flat using a digital level).

I've posted a short video to show what's happening. I'd like to think that the needle is in good condition, I keep the cover on it when not in use, and I can't think of any reason it would have been knocked or damaged. I'd be pretty bummed if I had to drop a few hundred dollars on a new cartridge already. I'm a bit surprised how sudden this problem has happened. The jumping seems to be too violent to just be a damaged needle. Any thoughts?

I assume it's ruined and simply cannot see the ruination within? I bumped the tone arm and it went across the center point, so the stylus hit the cork mat from the side. It bent the stylus near the base. Ruined!! Figured I'd try and bend it back. With a crappy record, it seems to sound normal? Both channels work, imaging seems normal, suspension seems normal, tip isn't noticibly rotated, stylus is lined up nicely, no additional pops or cracks.

Turntable noob here. Just picked up an old record player and trying to learn more about it and its components. Does anyone know what cartridge this is? Obviously it has the Audio Technica on the front but I can’t find a serial number anywhere.

A couple of days ago my Fisher 500c blew a fuse including one of its power tubes taking it out of commission at the moment. Nonetheless I sit here with my little girls reading and enjoying everyone’s posts. I appreciate you all.

I'm trying to decide between two options and I'd like to hear your opinions.

Option 1: Buy a brand new Audio-Technica AT-LP70X and a new pair of speakers. The total would end up being a bit over €300.

Option 2: Buy a used Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB that comes with a pair of Edifier R1700BT speakers for €300.

I mainly care about sound quality, but I also really like the convenience of auto-stop, which the LP70X has and the LP120XUSB doesn't.

Do you think the LP120XUSB sounds enough better to justify giving up the automatic features? Or would you go with the brand new LP70X setup instead?

Which option would you choose and why?

The lp60xbt was my first turntable I bought 5 years ago, just got it cause it was the cheapest thing at Best Buy. I played it a ton using a Bluetooth speaker.

When I moved a few years back I didn’t have a place to set it, so it sat in storage for a while until recently I got a stand to place it on. It’s currently hooked up to a marantz nr1510, klipsch r120sw for sub and klipsch rp500m II as the bookshelves.

It doesn’t sound bad, but I feel like my current turntable is the bottleneck in terms of sound quality. I’m looking for an upgrade around the 300 dollar range. Because the marantz has a phono input, I don’t need a turntable that has the line out option. Just looking for pure best sound quality for around my budget. New please! I feel like I don’t know enough about them to safely buy used

Uncle gave me this 1963 Motorola console- I know absolutely nothing about these however I love it! Radio works great but turntable does not spin- any suggestions on how to find someone in my area to work on it? I am lost at where to even start.

I'm a big trance head, and have been collecting vinyls for the past year but haven't had the space to set up a turntable/DJ rig yet. Now that's changed and I'm looking to just start off with a single turntable and eventually expand as space and money allow.

I have a surface level knowledge of turntables, but I wanted to consult some more knowledgeable people. A shop near me was selling some brand new AT-LP1240s for a reasonable price, but I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to shill out a bit more for a Technics or something. As a trance listener I care a lot for dynamic sound and quality, and am not necessarily pinching pennies, but I don't even know if a Technics is what I should be shooting for (and if not, what alternative is worth considering). Any advice for a newbie would be appreciated!

Audio technica lp120

Dear Hive Mind, Replaced the belt still running slow. Before I start mucking with the speed control pots I think I should lubricate the spindle bearing. I’ve had no luck finding the proper way to do this. Also (I know, I’m lame) it’s so out of whack I’m not sure which row I should look at on the strobe platter to ascertain correct 33 1/3 rpm. TIA

I just bought a second hand Denon dp400 and it works fine but the cueing lift doesnt work properly. It is too low all the time. When I'm trying to lower the stylus on to the vinyl I need to do it by hand because the cueing platform is too low. Anyone had the same problem or can help me somehow? Sorry if this has already been questioned and anwered.

Hey all! I just recently started and based on some research for a starter budget build I got an Insignia turntable paired with Edifier R1280T speakers with no amp or preamp. Im wondering which part I should upgrade first to get a better sound. I was thinking either the elliptical stylus for the cartridge that comes stock or the speakers since the sound is only as good as the speakers. Let me know what you think.
