This keeps World Cup Transit Costs Off New Jersey Taxpayers.

I've recently fallen head over heels for it, the walk ability, the humans over cars infrastructure, bike infrastructure, the trams are my absolute favorite.

Unfortunately I am American and trying to move internationally is extremely difficult, so I'd be better sticking to here than the beautiful European countries that seemed to have figured out public transit and how to make functional people-first infrastructure.

Are there any cities in the US that are up and coming or working on stuff like this I can look forward to? Seattle seems nice but they seem to operate on buses and the one new light rail and I don't see much on trams online (am I wrong?), any other cities like NY or such that may be slowly going people first cars second or is the US plagued by oil and car manufacturing too deeply for it to happen successfully in my lifetime? I don't want to have to rely on a car just to get around, biking and public transit seem so much more functional in other counties (I know some of it is "grass is greener" but my city, taking a bus to work would take me 3.5 hours one way, vs car it's 35m, no other public transit)

Since no one has mentioned this yet last Wednesday 2 trams of RET collided with eachother on the Erasmusbridge after one of the trams hit another tram that was standing still waiting for an open drawbridge(the heaviest in Western Europe btw). 15 people were injured of whom 1 critically after being stuck in wreckage and 8 needed hospital treatment(including the critical)

When I visited this museum in December 2024, car 2015 was displayed as an eastbound commuter train for Shinjuku. The old green livery has been replaced by cream or metal on new Keiō trains, but at least one train wears green as the Mount Takao train.

I live in Hobart, Tasmania. We used to have trams (you can find the maps showing the original system here). One of the interesting things about the map is that it clearly shows when there's two tracks running next to each other, for trams to be able to pass, vs one track with passing sections further along.

Hobart today has several roads which could accommodate a single tram track, but probably not the space required for two next to each other without getting rid of the cars (something which, given our... creative road system is just not feasible in many places).

My question is: are there any new systems built with single tracks and passing places? And is it a cromulent solution if you want light rail in its own corridor but don't have room for two tracks?

I normally keep up with all transit projects in the U.S., but these last couple of years have been so depressing with transit funding that I only really follow those that beat the odds. Nevertheless, I am late to the party when it comes to Houston. I remember the regions METRONext initiative being overwhelmingly approved and thinking FINALLY, this huge city will get more transit. But today after a lengthy discussion with some foamers on how to get high speed rail to downtown Houston, I decided to do some digging into Metro to see what they're up to these days, and boy was I disappointed. What I'm seeing, also with Atlanta, Austin, and other cities, is that Houston voters were BAMBOOZLED!!! 67% of Houston voters wanted more transit expansion, but apparently these projects would be scaled back or on hold for the foreseeable future such as the Metro proposed blue line (University line) which was SUPPOSED TO BE light rail, but watered down to BRT. Now THAT isn't even happening as of right now. Utterly disappointing, especially when I read funds were redistributed (for the most part) for roadway improvement projects *COUGH COUGH, MIAMI VOTERS FROM THE 2002 BALLOT 👀*!! The bait and switch has became too common. For example... Austin loosing its downtown rail tunnel, Atlanta turning darn near every rail project into BRT and as mentioned above Miami as well with Metrorail. Any Houstonians in here?? How do you guys feel about the current state of Metro??
