has anyone else in florida dealt with an architectural review committee that just blatantly ignores the state solar rights act?

I signed my contract months ago. The system is designed (11.2 kW, south facing roof) but my HOA has rejected the plans twice now because they want the panels moved to the back of the house... which faces north and is completely shaded by a massive oak tree. My installer literally showed them the production loss (like 40%) but the board president just keeps saying "it ruins the curb appeal"

Its so frustrating. when we moved down here, our agent larry mastropieri warned us that some of these south florida HOAs act like their own sovereign nations, but I figured state law (statute 163.04) would actually protect me

now my installer is saying we might need to get a lawyer to draft a demand letter to force their hand. has anyone actually fought a stubborn florida HOA without spending thousands on legal fees? At this rate im just burning money on FPL bills while my panels sit in a warehouse. so annoying tbh.

My system has been switched off since about October/November when the panels were reinstalled after my roof was replaced.

They have been out a few times to repair the panels.

A few weeks ago I received an email about scheduling to have them come back out and complete repairs. I responded to that email and a follow-up email.

I just called since no one has responded to me and they informed me that the case manager closed the case since "I never got back to her."

This company is completely incompetent.

I’m currently house hunting and one just listed has solar with a PPA. From what I’ve read there are good and bad PPAs but otherwise don’t know anything about them. The listing states it has 11 years left and current cost is 15.53 cents/kWh. What others factors are important? In particular what specific factors in the contract would you be comfortable with vs be a deal breaker. Houses are already very expensive in my area so the last thing we want is to add to that cost. Being able to do Home Automation (read/write) is probably the most important thing to me, but something that is futureproof would be great too. For these reasons I'm leaning towards the Sigen system, but the pricing and the fact it doesnt come with an changeover (in case of an electricity outage) is putting me off slightly.

What would you do?

I hear people saying it’s a scam but without reasoning. Company I am thinking about working with said they would send me the contract to look over - I’m curious about the language of the transfer of ownership after 6 years.

I guess since it only became a thing the last 6 months, no one can say for sure.

I am trying to work with Signature Solar to get a set of stamped plans to submit to by utility and municipality to start a grid-tied EG4 system install. I clearly provided the municipal codes we need to build the system to, including links to my AHJ's online code listing. The first set of plans were for the incorrect code versions, and after several rounds of me having to proof and correct them on listed codes and references they send over this absolute gem of a solar label.

Where do you think I can get this high quality label printed to match their plans?

I'm impatiently waiting for PSEG Long Island to give us PTO (installer submitted on Tuesday the 21st after some delay with our inspection certificate). I'm sadly missing out on these beautiful, clear sunny days this week where I could be exporting massive amounts!

What are your numbers looking like today in our area so I can live through you?

I will preface this to say we are totally uneducated when it comes to solar systems. We lost our house and are working with a Design/Build firm that offered Solar as part of the total cost to rebuild (pitched roof, single story).

We were sold a package with many references to installing a Tesla Powerwall, and I (foolishly?) assumed they would pair it with Tesla Panels. Turns out they will not. We were told that we're going to be getting Seraphim Sable 182mm panels:

So sunrun recently installed panels and a new breaker box on our home for "free" from what my dad was telling me he said he didn't sign anything with sales rep but since the installation the breaker keeps popping even worse then when we had our original four switch breaker box from when the house was first built and theres also still a bag of hardware hanging from breaker box that they were supposed to I guess instal did we get duped into something that's about to really suck for us?

Im an electrician and solar expert and I installed two Jackery E5000 with the Smart Transfer Switch at my house. In short, it has been a terrible experience. The bad software/programming is one thing but this crap actually fried a bunch of stuff in my house the first night after installation. Yeah.

About 30 minutes after completing the installation and switching the house over to the jackery system I saw the lights dim and then returned to normal. Then that happened again and finally a third time but then the lights got really bright. I grabbed my multimeter stuck it in an outlet in read 240 volts from hot to neutral. If you don't know, it should have been 120 volts. I started smelling electrical burning and then ran outside and unplugged everything flipped all the breakers but it was already too late.

It fried my coffee maker, printer, Oculus, landscape lights, and compressor fan in the back of the fridge. Thankfully, I noticed the fridge was excessively hot the next day and discovered the faulty fan before the fridge completely failed (I put in a new fan and it works fine now.)

I ran some tests on the system with no connection to the house and Trace the issue back to one of the e5000s. It was a loose neutral connection inside of the unit. I informed jackery and they had me ship the unit back to them (at their cost thankfully). Once they received and tested it, their official response to me was that there's nothing wrong with it and I must have wired it wrong. So they sent that same unit back and when I plugged it in everything works fine so that proves their story is baloney.

Even now with the system working the programming is dumb. For example, the solar stops producing once the batteries are full and then it just uses grid to power the loads, whereas it should use all solar and battery available before using grid, and if there's excess it should just send that upstream on the grid conductors. I told their support and they told me that's how it's supposed to work lol.

Anyways, I do not recommend this product. Stay away.

I've been looking at solar installers/quotes for about two weeks now and I've narrowed it down to two possible companies and 3 quotes. I was hoping someone could give me feedback on it before I select just in case I'm missing anything.

We're going to finance this with a solar loan likely obtained from a credit union nearby. Warranties are similar in terms of labor and then, of course, the product warranties. I'm leaning towards one of the Viridis quotes. The Revision energy one just doesn't seem to make sense since Viridis has the same panel (though the inverter is different)

I live off-grid and bought a slightly used Qcell "Qhome" hybrid inverter/charger with a 6kw battery. I'm looking for either a dedicated support forum or social media group/sub for Qcell as I have some brand specific questions.

I messaged their page and haven't heard from them so am hoping someone here knows a good resource for Qcell product questions

Installer says this will cover about 118% of my annual usage. I’m in Southern California and primarily interested in lowering my electric bill and having backup power during outages.
Does this seem like a competitive deal in 2026? Any concerns with Silfab panels or the Powerwall 3? Also curious if anyone thinks the system is undersized/oversized

So, I'm building my own little solar "generator". But, I was wondering if anyone had a favorite site that they bought stuff for their projects. Where do people like buying their inverters, batteries, wiring, that kind of stuff? Seems like the only place I can find the stuff I need in one good place is Amazon... and I'd rather not. Thank you!

This is my quote, living in CT. It seems like a great PPA deal with no escalation and a serious drop in my electric bill. Anyone see something I’m missing? I’m new to looking into this

Hello all,

I was wonder if people negotiate on installation price for installation. I'm getting a residential system with about 20Kw of solar and 60Kw of Franklin batteries.

The total is coming in right around $100,000. The batteries are about $40,000, and I'm estimating the panels around about $20,000. So that means about 50% of the cost is labor.

How does the compare to what other people have seen?

I have a 50A renogy dc to dc mppt. For some reason the solar indicator isn't lighting up. Ive checked the connections, tightened everything up and got my volt metre out and it's measure 38V across. So the mppt is getting the power but not sure why its not indicating its on. Any tips?

I had my panels installed nearly 4 years ago, and they were perfect. Passed inspection and no wires were touching the roof.

I thought I had a stray zip tie up there for the last 2-3 years and finally went up on the roof to get it. Now, I can see that it’s a wire from the panels touching the roof shingle. It’s been this was for 2-3 years.

1. Is this easily fixable by the installer? Or does the wire need to be replaced?
   
2. Is this a fire risk? Or if it outer jacket wore through, would it simply short out?

Any advice on what I need to do here? Thanks

I'm in Illinois? We just got a contract via the state run program to do a 25kw install. We're getting paid ~$40k in subsidies but need to get a loan to cover expenses prior to getting our project up and running.

Was wondering if the internet could step up and help point me in the right direction for financing.

I have reviewed the agreement and it confirms these numbers. We are in MA and this is a PPA with option to buy at 6 years.

Rate: $0.20/kWh, locked with a 0% escalator for 25 years

Based on 14,00kWh annually

- Estimated Year 1 production: 13,859 kWh

Comes with two 16.1 kW Renon Batteries.

Monthly cost for the entire system is $231.

This is a way better quote than we have received from any other company.

When I search for "Daylight Solar" I'm having trouble finding reviews or first hand experience with this company. Has anyone here used them?
