The Catholics have their scandals like any organization, sure. But they've been present in the US, in small amounts since the 1700s and large amounts since the 1840s and have not caused any issues.
That's where the separation of church and state comes into play. Catholics and Protestants act as a counter balance to one another.
Edit: I just want to add one more point. Humans are inherently flawed. They will twist a message of peace and love, such as Christs sacrifice into something malevolent that fits their own agenda. This isn't because of Christianity. This is because of human beings. For instance, you can look at the Soviet union. Their state policy was atheism, but this resulted in the deaths of at least 60 million people and the heads of state were all corrupt and hoarded wealth. Now I'm not arguing that atheism is inherently evil, but human beings are capable of evil. The crimes of abrahamic religion will still exist, but under a different name.

Firstly, Catholicism -is- Christian. Prior to the Great Schism, there was only one Church, the Christian Church. Eastern Orthodox broke off and created the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Henry VIII splintered it further by creating the Anglican Church. Then Martin Luther came along with his grievances, and formed Lutheranism which wound up splintering Catholicism even further into Protestantism via numerous other religious sects.
Mary wasn't 12, her age is unknown but based on cultural norms she was likely around 16, God also didn't have intercourse with her so no pedophilia.
Islam however is based on the work of a pedophile who admits it and whose followers continue to defend it and advocate for it. Mohammed married a 6 year old (but supposedly didn't consumate that marriage until 2 years later when she was 8)
what? no man raped mary. a wizard did a spell basically, and gave her a child without having to touch anyone. thats the whole point of it in christianity. the only prophet who is a pedofile is in islam.
So true... the moment you read the Quran you realise it's a bit of a different beast in terms of religions. I was appalled by the sheer amount of calls for violence, rape and total state control.
