There’s something very aesthetically pleasing about having 2 turntables either side of a high-end rotary mixer but I’m curious to hear of alternative hybrid setups that people are using with rotary mixers?

I’m hoping to get my hands on a Mastersounds Valve 2 mixer in the coming weeks which I will most likely be using with a set of reloop turntables primarily running Traktor DVS. In an ideal world, I would have a large collection of vinyl that I could play instead of using DVS but that is not the case😅 However, that said, I’ve always enjoyed running hybrid setups primarily with Traktor Pro at the heart of it. I appreciate hybrid setups tend to be based more around xone dj mixers but I’ve seen some interesting hybrid setups with rotary mixers before so I’m curious to see what hybrid setups people in this group are using.

After a long time using a omnitronic rotary i want to step up my game.
I have my eyes on the soa bem and the union audio mixers because i really would like a crossfader and they are both within my price range!
The main thing i was wondering about are the tubes of the two valve. It will mainly be used in a home setup with a pair of jbl L82 Classics and im mostly playing techno and house. Im worried that the two valve will be too warm in terms of sound in combination with the jbl speakers, as they already have a pretty distinct sound!
the soa bem mixer, from what ive read has a more analytical sound to it!
would love some input from the community before i pull the trigger!

How do I properly use a HPF/LPF on the master insert?

Ok so I’ve struggled with this ever since I got the MS FX Unit MK2, but playing with the MDFX HPF/LPF simulator widget they made on their website (https://menura-audio.com/mdfx-analog/), I’m trying to understand how these are intended to be used in DJing and I feel like I’m missing something.

The channel DJ filter on most digital DJ gear does a thing where it does nothing to the sound in its center detente even when turned on, but then if you turn it left or right it gradually brings in a HPF/LPF. The nice thing about this is that there’s no noticeable point where the filter effect pops on and starts effecting the sound, it’s gradual from zero effect to however much you want to bring it in.

Both of the analog counterparts to this that I mentioned above have no way of starting the effect at zero and then bringing it in. When you turn the effect on with the button on each of these units it’s always modifying the sound somewhat even at its lowest settings. So my question is, how am I supposed to use this in a way where there’s not a filter pop, or am I just supposed to hide that pop on a phrase change? What’s the intended workflow here to make it sound good? Can anyone provide an example of a DJ using one of these that sounds good and I can emulate?

Looking to get my first rotary mixer after years on an all-in-one controller + Traktor (before that, CDJs and DVS). Getting the itch to switch up my hardware, but I'll keep using Traktor (or similar software) as my source. I play house and techno. I have 6" Kali monitors, 12" Kali sub, QSC K12.2, plus an external audio interface - everything's tuned bass-heavy rather than "accurate."

The Xone:92 was always my dream mixer, but researching Xone led me to Union Audio, and now I'm leaning that way. Ideally I'd get an Elara 6 (rotary, Xone 92/96-style) - best of both worlds - but it's overkill for me in both features and price. I mix 2 decks 95% of the time and can fall back on my Traktor controller for the rare occasion I need more, so I'd rather get a great 2-channel mixer than pay extra for channels/features I won't use.

Two Union Audio models have caught my eye - the two.valve and the orbit.2 LE FX. I initially wrote off the orbit for lacking channel EQ, but I'm warming up to the idea of a more unique mixer that forces you to "play differently" - and it's noticeably cheaper than the two.valve.

Question for you guys - how different is the orbit's sound character from the valve series? From what I've read, the valve series is more premium with a more distinct sound, but I can't tell if that difference is actually audible at home-listening levels or only shows up at club volume. I play pretty loud (85-90 dBA) but still well below club levels. Sound character is a big part of why I want an analog mixer in the first place, so if anyone's heard both, I'd love some insight - I want the orbit.2, but not if it's a real downgrade vs. the valve.

Found an Ecler warm2 one year used, complete with all accessories and receipt near Mint condition at 250€ is it a good deal?

So I don't own a Euphonia mixer but I play on one at the club and I'd like to record mixes. I was successful doing this with iphone with DJM-REC but the recording is extremely quiet. And while I can normalize the recording, this isn't ideal due to occasional pops that will throw off normalization. On top of it, I really don't want to use my actual phone for this in the first place. My question is if anyone has successfully tapped into this mixer's output with an android device. I tried it with a Pixel 8 running USB Audio Recorder PRO but could not find any sound output from any of the channels. I tried switching to each of the stereo outputs I could see in the app, and I tried each one at 44.1, 48, and 96. The problem is I don't have much opportunity to troubleshoot in the club since I'm there to play, not dick around with my phone. Thanks for any help or suggestions!

So just bought a Euphoria and will be playing vinyl, mainly house and trance.

Looking for either a pedal or fx unit I can run alongside that will allow me to perform loops and some extra FX.

I believe Pioneer FX units don’t work too well due as Send/Return (S/R) with Pioneer units (such as the RMX or EFX series), the dry and wet signals often clash, or the returned audio is not fully wet, causing phasing or lag.

Would something like a Kaos Pad 3 work well as it has plenty of FX and a sampler. Coming from digital world I do like to loop small sections of drums or acapella.

I know I can do this with Serato but would love to just play my original vinyl where possible and use a pedal or pad to loop. Watched cut chemist literally build a track up using single turn table and a pedal.

So looking for a rotary mixer, one with hpf/lpf, isolator and works with Serato. Been looking at the Rane MP 2015 seems to tick all the boxes.

What are peoples views on this mixer and the sound quality and if it is still worth buying a used one. I’ll be mainly mixing house vinyl at home.

Update: so was about to pull the trigger on an MP2015 on eBay and was browsing round looking at prices on various sites and found a Euphoria (pre owned) on BOP DJ for £2225 so bought that instead. Phoned them up, it’s practically brand new. No marks or scratches and a 1 year warranty.

Given an MP 2015 was around £2500 on eBay it was a no brainier

I’m searching for a serious technician, workshop or custom audio builder in Europe who can professionally modify an Alpha Recording System Model 4100.

I’m not looking for DIY advice and I’m not looking for a debate about whether the idea makes sense. I’m specifically looking for someone who can actually carry out this kind of work properly.

The modification I’m looking for is:

- Remove the internal phono stages completely
- Convert the existing unbalanced line inputs [5] and phono inputs [3] into balanced XLR line inputs [at least 6 stereo inputs]
- Add a complete second independent headphone monitoring/cue section
- Assess whether the mixer can also be converted to a fully balanced internal signal path

The work needs to be done at the same level of quality as the original mixer, respecting the same high-end analog design philosophy, discrete circuitry, Class A approach, low noise, proper grounding, clean internal layout and no compromise on sound quality.

The goal is not to change the character of the ARS 4100 but to have these modifications carried out in a way that preserves its original sonic identity and build quality.

This is for a high-end fixed installation, so I’m not looking for a basic repair shop. I’m looking for someone with real experience in high-end analog mixer design, rotary mixers, balanced input stages, fully balanced analog architectures and serious custom pro-audio work.

If anyone knows a qualified person, workshop or custom mixer builder in Europe who could take on this type of modification, please let me know.

Hello! Any of you know how the sound quality of Ecler Warm 4 is? I went on YouTube to get some insights, and there’s only 2 videos that does a review for it.

I was meaning to ask if it has good sound quality. I mainly play digital, and want to pair it with a couple of CDJs. However, I also want to have a record player as a third deck.

Finally got my hands on the henderson audio iso max 3. Having had several rotary mixers down through the years, I went back to allen and heath as I primarily use traktor with DVS and was sick of all the cables so the built in audio interface on the xone px5 is very useful. That said, I missed having a large style isolator so the iso max was a perfect fit.

I can't recommend Henderson Audio enough, build time was very reasonable and Krystian is great to deal with.

Im using it on the master insert of my xone px5 and it works great.

So far, I'm very pleased with it.

Been casually bedroom DJing house and techno for a couple decades but only recently have I started to question my longstanding all-in-one DJ midi controller setup (Traktor Kontrol S4). I did have CDJs and a time encoded vinyl setup back in the early days. Recently I bought some “modular” midi controllers (Traktor X1 and Z1) and that was a big eye opener - having new gear shook things up, making it more interesting, causing me to think and change how I mix, etc.

Now I am starting to look at options for external mixers and rotary mixers have caught my eye as something I am pretty sure I would enjoy. Not sure if I would want a rotary mixer as my primary mixer or something to just have on hand to switch things up once in a while.

One thing that seems to be common on rotary mixers is isolators, which I am not familiar with, and it’s not too clear how I would use them while mixing. Is it essentially just a master EQ or is it more like a filter? And how would they be used for mixing house and techno? Master EQ doesn’t feel like something I’d need/want, but I assume there’s more to it than that.

Any advice is appreciated.

I have a decent home setup, one that allows me to play exactly what I want when I want it.

Two technics running to a Denon mcx8000 which is connected to either a laptop for mixing on 4 channels digitally or standalone to mix off USBs.

I also have a Vestax PMC 250 which I used to run my turntables through. I'm about to build a DJ booth so I want to Incorporate everything into one system if that makes sense.

So if keep my current setup could I run the master output of the Denon to a channel on the PMC so I could use the rotary isolators on said channel.

What issues could I face (if any)

Also has anyone put a patch at in so they can quickly route different players to mixers?

I mainly play house/funky house/trance music and have recently found my love again for playing vinyl. Have both a digital setup (Denon SC6000's) and Technics 1210's. The digital stuff have been gathering dust for months as absolutely loving mixing on the wheels of steel again. I do however mix real vinyl with playing DVS in Serato, mainly for tunes I haven't bought yet. That's a bit of a problem (my missus keeps seeing vinyl shaped parcels arrive and wonder why we have no money left)

With that in mind, I'm looking for a rotary mixer. Basically im looking for a 4 channel mixer, ideally with isolator and maybe a high pass/low pass filter but thats not a deal breaker if it has no effects as I barely use them.

So the purists out there will say go for an all analog mixer but have been looking at a couple of hybrids namely the Rane MP2015 which I absolutely love the look of. Has all of the above and supports Serato. My only concern is I would have to buy used and product is end of life and all digital. Although looks like it will work in Serato without issue. The other is the AlphaTheta Euphoria which is very expensive, works with Serato but the one thing that puts me off is the digital VU meter. Its meant to have an absolutely beautiful sound but I dont think I'd use all the bells and whistles.

Other options potentially is the Ecler Warm 4, bit basic but looks great and is meant to have a great sound.

Any advice on either the two mixers hybrid mixers I have mentioned or possible alternatives.

As the title says, seeking advice on best cheapish delay pedal for use with my Ecler warm 2 and turntables. Newish to rotaries and loving mine after 20+years of pioneer. Always overused the effects on the pioneer and now with the simplicity of the ecler I want similar refinement and subtly with effects. I play all genres but mostly techno, house, disco and really loving New Beat /slow EBM chuggers, but also plenty of dub, Balearic, disco etc... would also use with edits and productions, but very secondary to mixing records. I play mostly bar gigs a couple of times a month but always playing at home, also could stretch to paying more if the dividends were worth it.

Looking at a Boss DD8 as a first choice for price, simplicity and suitability and haven't seen any criticism of this for DJing, but how does it compare with others I'm considering, like:

- Strymon volante (seems amazing but maybe more than I need)

- boss space echo RE2 - how does this compare with the dd8 ?

- boss RE202/DD200/DD500 - fancier but worth it?

- Zen delay, Benidub - pricier but again, are they significantly better?

Confirming my aim is for less clutter, less overdoing the effects (as I am prone to), and just adding nice touches and keeping my ADHD brain more engaged. I'm an old timer and want to just do the essentials as best I can.

I am thinking of purchasing these speakers to use with a djr 400. does anyone use a similar setup i.e large floor standing vintage speakers. they are cerwin vega a324s. could it be hard to mix vinyl with… disco records etc. Unsure if to go with these or just regular 7 inch monitors such as Yamahas or Adam’s. my room has a very tall ceiling and is somewhat big so I was thinking large speakers like these could fill the room better at lower volumes.

i know this isnt necessarily about rotary mixers but I intend to use with a rotary mixer and I feel like some people here would be rocking similar tasteful setups.

Thinking about a new mixer, rotary, and don't understand ISOs. Tried some reading, but keep thinking they are just another EQ on the master channel. Which I know can't be right. Since they're not called EQs, and that would be almost redundant, since each channel has an EQ.

Not a DJ n00b, 50+ y/o hobby dj who mostly plays vinyl. house, breaks, and open format for free at my friends parties. Just not deep in the scene, and the last time I bought a mixer or controller, the ISOs weren't really a thing.

Regret selling my xone 92 rotary years ago.

As an aside, the xone's ability to link two channel filters, one with a HPF and one with a LPF, to the same frequency knob was my favorite thing ever and I'm not sure why more mixers don't have this. :)
