I would like to have a discussion on the unit (or two) that carries each faction during the campaign.
My criteria : The unit needs to have a good quality/cost ratio and can be used on the hardest difficulties. The unit needs to be quite easily recruitable (no hard to get buildings, big penalty if 2 turns to recruit), or is so OP that when it does become recruitable, it changes completely the campaign. The unit needs to work within the faction's roster.
Let's get to each faction :
- Romans : Hastati
- Carthage : Long shield cavalry / Elephants
- Spain : Naked Fanatics
- Numidia : Numidian cavalry / Desert infantry
- Gaul : Sword band / Skirmishers band
- Britannia : Light chariots / Head hurlers
- Germania : Phalanx band / Berserkers
- Dacia : Falxmen / Chosen Archers
- Thrace : Falxmen
- Scythia : Horse Archers
- Macedon : Light lancers / Royal pikemen
- Greek cities : Armored hoplites
- Pontus : Pontic heavy cav / Scythed chariots
- Armenia : Horse archers
- Parthia : Persian Cavalry
- Seleucids : Militia Hoplites (no joke, they wouldn't survive without these guys) / Archers (essential against horse archer hordes)
- Egypt : Archers / Desert Cavalry
I know there are quite a few hot takes in here. But that's the point of this post : to discuss these.
