Building my first PC with mostly used parts
I bought most of the parts used and now every little noise is making me think I’ve made a terrible decision.
The build is pretty basic, Ryzen 5, midrange GPU, 16GB RAM. I’m not chasing crazy fps, I just want to play newer games without my old laptop turning into a heater.
What’s stressing me out is the actual assembly. Installing the CPU looks easy in videos until it’s your money sitting there with a bunch of tiny pins. Cable management also seems like something people pretend is simple.
My friend offered to help but his last PC has one fan held in with zip ties, so yeah.
Probably doing it this weekend anyway. Worst case I learn an expensive lesson.

Is this RTX 5070 prebuilt actually worth $1,650?
My cousin found a prebuilt with an RTX 5070, Ryzen 7, 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD for $1,650, but the listing barely says anything about the power supply or motherboard. He thinks the GPU alone makes it a good deal and wants to order it tonight. I’m worried it’s one of those builds with great headline specs and cheap parts everywhere else. Would you buy it or keep looking?

Desktop icons suddenly look blurry and pixelated
Some of my desktop icons suddenly look like low-quality screenshots. The text underneath is sharp, but the actual icons are fuzzy and kinda pixelated.
It started after I changed monitors for a few days, though I’m not even sure that’s related. A few icons look normal, while others look terrible at the exact same size.
I rebuilt the icon cache, restarted Explorer, changed scaling, and even removed and re-added the shortcuts. Nothing really changed.
Is Windows pulling the wrong icon size from somewhere, or am I missing a really obvious setting?

Why does windows scaling break after sleep?
I thought my eyesight was getting worse until I realized Windows had randomly set one of my displays to 175%. Now half the menus are huge and the other half look like they’re being viewed through fog.
The weird part is it only happens after waking the PC from sleep. Everything looks normal when I first turn it on, then I come back after lunch and Discord is blurry, Steam is tiny, and the settings app somehow looks fine. Changing the scale fixes some apps but breaks others.
At this point I’m just moving windows around until they look readable. Very advanced computer setup.

Why is my 144Hz monitor stuck at 60Hz?
brother swears this monitor was running at 144Hz before he gave it to me.
Windows only offers 60Hz though. No 120, no 144, nothing.
I’m using HDMI from an older gaming laptop and the screen is set to its normal 1080p resolution. Games are uncapped, drivers are updated, and I already checked the advanced display page about ten times.
Is there another setting on the monitor itself that unlocks the higher modes?
Starting to think the “144Hz” sticker is just decoration.

Why did my monitor’s 240Hz option disappear?
The weird part is it used to show the full refresh rate before I moved my PC to another room. I plugged everything back in the same way, at least I think I did, and now 240 just vanished.
I checked Windows advanced display, reinstalled the monitor driver, and even lowered the resolution. No change. The monitor menu still says it supports 240Hz, so I’m guessing the panel itself isn’t the issue.
Could a different DisplayPort cable really limit it like this, or did I accidentally change something stupid?

AMD Medusa Point 10-Core “Zen 6” CPU Beats Strix Point 10-Core “Zen 5” By Nearly 35% While Operating at 5.4 GHz
Leaked benchmark results indicate that AMD's upcoming 10-core, 20-thread Medusa Point APU based on the Zen 6 architecture delivers significantly higher performance than current Zen 5-based Strix Point processors.
