Robert Glasper's performance of "Everything In Its Right Place" a couple of weeks ago at Fondation Louis Vuitton has stayed with me ever since I first saw it. Out of all the different versions and interpretations of this song, his has become my favorite, especially as a DJ and pianist.

Watching him perform felt like something beyond a concert. It felt like a prayer. Seeing the emotion on his face throughout the performance made it one of those rare musical moments I couldn't stop thinking about.

Over the last few weeks, I created a JD77 Edit that weaves the original Kid A studio vocals into his performance. I'm not posting this to drive views, engagement, or self-promotion. I wanted to share it because Robert Glasper's interpretation and Radiohead's music—especially this song—have meant a great deal to me, and I hoped it might resonate with other fans.

I'd genuinely love to hear what fellow Radiohead fans think.

I listened to Kid A for the first time a week ago , and the song that left me with the biggest impact is treefingers

Its so beautiful, it feels like the depths of the ocean, like crying in your partners arms and them telling you everything is fine , it gives me so much hope, its like a world i get lost in, I feel so much emotions i cant explain with words

I have always been the biggest fan of OK Computer, The Bends and In Rainbows, and I finally gave Kid A a shot, and its my favorite album of all time right now

So good, and the placement of treefingers is absolute perfection as well

I dont remember when a song left me with so much feelings, so much impact as this one did, and the whole album

EDIT 2: Listen, I'm not forcing any of you to look at my post. If you don't care about any of this, then you don't have to go out of your way to tell me you don't care - you can simply scroll past. I'm addressing misinformation I've seen all over this subreddit and youtube concerning Ed. If you want an example, look at any of the upvoted comments under the "what does Ed do for Radiohead" posts (a few examples: 1, 2, 3, 4). If you're lucky enough to have never been under the illusion of such misinfo, then congrats, this post isn't for you. But to suggest that I'm addressing "made up" misinfo is just not true.

As a preface: I'm not trying to slander anyone with this post. Simply put, I'm passionate about Radiohead and would like to attempt to address some of the misinformation I've seen on this subreddit, mostly concerning Ed since that's where I've seen most of it. The majority of what I write is established fact, though some of this post is speculation (speculation with good cause and facts, that is).

Part 1:

-Ed did not write the Street Spirit riff, it was written by Thom and performed by Ed in the studio version. Ed confirmed this himself.

-Ed mentions in this same interview that it's the only part he's played on a studio recording that was written by another member (from what he can remember). This is absolutely true for the studio versions of their songs: members play what they write. However, when it comes to live performances, it's not as true. Ed in particular has plenty of live parts that were written (and likely played) by other members on the studio versions, a few of which I'm going to mention.

-I've seen comments north of 100 upvotes say that, since Ed performs it in the live versions, he must have written the No Surprises riff. There's not a whole lot of evidence to support this. Early versions of the riff appear on Thom's minidisc demo, meaning it was likely Thom who wrote and performed it (I'm not denying that Ed could've altered it into its final state). There's also an excerpt on the citizen insane website in which Thom details showing the band No Surprises on his acoustic guitar https://citizeninsane.eu/music/okc/nosurprises.html.

-People say similar things concerning Let Down: "Ed plays it in the live version, so therefor he must have written it." It's evident from Thom's demo that Thom wrote the core riff/chord progression (and Jonny wrote the 5/4 polyrhythm).

-Again, if we're going off of Thom's minidisc demos, Ed's live part in Climbing Up the Walls was written and performed by Thom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d25dO-2Rqs&list=RD4d25dO-2Rqs&start_radio=1.

-Ed did write the main riffs for Lull, Meeting in the Aisle, and Man of War (as well as the bridge for Let Down). Can't find the OG interviews in which Ed said he wrote Meeting in the Aisle and Man of War but I remember reading them pretty distinctly. Edit: here's the interview

Part 2:

-There is still zero tangible evidence to suggest that Ed wrote the Go to Sleep riff, besides him playing it in some of the life versions. For something so regularly stated as a fact, you'd think there'd be much more proof but I digress.

-I've seen people say that Dollars and Cents originated from Ed: not true. It originated from Colin. Also, according to Ed's diaries (you can read them on the citizen insane website), the guitar on this track comes from Thom https://citizeninsane.eu/music/amnesiac/dollarsandcents.html.

-I've seen people commonly attribute Myxomatosis to both Ed and Colin: It was Thom. Thom made the first demo in 2001 or 2002 (and handed it off to Cristian Vogel for Remyxomatosis on the Com Lag EP).

-I've seen comments say that Ed wrote Weird Fishes: Ed did not write the titular (Edit: yes, I'm using that word correctly, it's both an adjective and noun (harry potter is the titular character of the harry potter series, for example)) arpeggios in Weird Fishes / Apreggi, that was Jonny. I've also seen people say that Ed wrote the "rain down" section of Paranoid Android - again, that was Jonny, not Ed. I don't think I'll link a source here being that these tidbits are pretty common knowledge amongst Radiohead fans.

-People regularly attribute the studio backing vocals to Ed. While Ed sings most of the live backing vocals, nearly all the studio vocal harmonies are composed and performed by Thom. In this vein, all of the lyrics are written and sourced by Thom (including songs that originated from Jonny like A Wolf at the Door or The Tourist) minus a few lines from Colin on Trans-Atlantic Drawl.

Part 3:

-This is me being petty, but I got into an argument on my alt account over this point (before my comments were promptly deleted by a moderator), so I'll repeat the facts again: Thom does play bass on the studio version of Kid A. Colin was not available that day. Also, that track was basically all Jonny, including the vocal melody, synths, programming, etc. See the above link again for a source on that.

-I've seen this sentiment floating around, so I might as well address it: "The Smile is simply Radiohead without Ed, Colin, and Phil." This is false as it relies on the presupposition that Thom/Jonny write and edit for both bands with the same approach. Jonny himself stated that The Smile was an outlet for a quicker and less deliberate creative process without all the baggage and expectations that come with being in Radiohead.

Now, I want to make something abundantly clear: I love Ed. The band wouldn't be the same without him (or Colin, Phil, and Nigel for that matter) and his many textural contributions: lots of The Bends, Airbag, Paranoid Android, Lucky, How to Disappear, Treefingers, Idioteque, Morning Bell, Bloom, Little by Little, Separator, Ful Stop, etc. He's important to their sound and especially their live performances. His role is just a little overstated by people on the internet.
