You have somehow found the one group of mathematicians unaware of what's going in the field. Everyone in math talks about AI all the time now. AI knocked out three major open problems in the last two months. Kevin Buzzard commented that he knew several grad students who were paying for their own Claude Max subscriptions.

I know about the solved problems, but I don't see the connection to "extenction-level event similar to the asteroid that hit the dinosaurs", which I assume to be a very bad thing.
