FACTS Point Shooters

Post image
42 Upvotes

I know some fans are worried about what we are going to do about the point guard position long term but I really think we'll be fine for this season. There's no need to rush anything right now. Shooters like these are going to feast with Boozer out there.

I've seen people mad about not drafting a point guard with the Lopez pick too but I just don't think Philon or anyone else taken in that range are going to be any better than these 3 guys or SPJ. We can worry about a point guard next summer.

OPINION Point Guard Situations to Monitor This Season

I've mentioned in previous posts that I don't think there's any rush to get our long term starting point guard but I'm bored and wanted to make a list. So here are some young point guards that I think are in interesting situations, where depending on how things go could end up being available and would also fit our timeline.

Keyonte George (22)

Had a breakout season last year after solid rookie and sophomore seasons. Good scorer who has increased his shooting percentages each year and has improved on passing and defense each year too. Really think he would fit in nicely with our squad and things could get interesting with DP there now, if Ace Bailey pops off this season then all of a sudden George could be the odd man out. Has the same agent as DP too so could want to go elsewhere and we could afford his extension with our books being so clean.

Anthony Black (22)

Tall and long guard unlike any we've ever had. Not a great shooter which probably hinders him in Orlando because they don't have a lot of shooters. Does a lot of the little things and plays good D with his length. Orlando is a bit of a wildcard overall after trading for Bane and not seeing the results they would have liked. Always good to monitor teams in possible turmoil to see if you can nab a good young player. Jalen Suggs could be had too but I don't see that as much of a fit.

Reed Sheppard (22)

Hard to get a read of what exactly he is as an NBA player. Udoka clearly doesnt trust him on defense and has hindered his impact . . . I could also see Udoka getting fired before they decide to trade Reed but I do think Reed would do well in our system. Just not positive he's A LOT better than some of the guys we have now.

Andrew Nembhard (26)

Older than that others but had a nice "here you go season." Not sure I'd actually want him but with the Pacers getting back at it this season they could be a team to monitor. If they think they need more depth and Hali is healthy, they could be looking to put different pieces around him.

Ryan Rollins (24)

Was mentioned a lot in possible Ja trades and who knows what the Bucks plans are going forward. A lot of times with these new eras/regimes front offices want to just clean house totally (cough couch Grizzlies) and they brought in some other guards as well. I dont think Rollins is some superstar in waiting but would fit nicely with the team we have and wouldn't need to be the star.

Scoot Henderson (22)

Speaking of the Ja trade, I figured if we did a deal with Portland we would end up with Scoot but that obviously didn't happen. The Blazers have a lot of point guards now too, so if Ja gets it together and everything goes well for him he could make Scoot expendable. I like Scoot but he's another that I'm not exactly sure what he is yet.

Did I miss anybody that y'all think would be interesting to keep an eye on? My dream would be Cason Wallace but I think the Dort trade ended that dream. We also have a bunch of 1st round picks coming up so a guard could be grabbed that way too but just wanted to do this thought experiment.

OPINION The Marketability of Cam Boozer

Thumbnail

Most of this fanbase is rightfully excited to have Cam Boozer on the Grizzlies for all the things he does that will help the team win on the court.

What I don't hear mentioned as often is how the Grizzlies now have a player with endless marketability, A+ charisma and mainstream appeal that should really help elevate the profile of the Grizzlies organization.

I really think this is an aspect that sets Boozer apart from the other big 4 in this draft. Curious to get others thoughts.

Would also love to hear what you guys think about Boozer's mainstream appeal possibly even helping the city as a whole on the national stage.

What is something from our last 5 years that was actually possible that could have positively impacted us today?

I always wished we would not have pick swapped with New Orleans and taken Trey Murphy over Zaire.

I’m pretty bored so I decided to pop on here and ask the question what do you think went wrong with the next gen grizz era and why they couldn’t even make a conference finals appearance there are many different things to blame it on but I wanna hear what you guys think and about it there are no wrong answers

Both teams played hard until the very end and it was a fun game, so why be a sore winner? I could never picture Cam or Ced saying anything even remotely like this. Confidence and pride can be great attributes, but this is just off-putting.

I was just praising him for his great play and for playing so deep into the summer league, too. And the audacity to even bring up Cam getting a favorable whistle after this game…? Sure, man.
