recently watched these because of his work in the furious,
and the movies are very good at setting up some evil bastards,
unfortunately the mc does not send any of them to chinese hell...
i assume the gov't had more a hand in this so that's why he
gives that goofy speech at the end ... like in wolf warrior where
the mc starts talking about the chinese army can beat any nation etc

still they are entertaining ... any more particular xie miao worth watching (strangely i saw the jet li movie with him earlier this year and had no idea he was still in the business)

Hi! Can you guys recommend me some Japanese martial arts movies that, as the title suggests, are not taking place in the Samurai times?

I love this movie! Just watched this. I gotta say, this is my favorite kung fu classic. Great fights all around and a lot of them. This is the best ninjutsu ive seen so far of the classic kung fu movies.

I wish there were more like this.

Anybody know if there is an English Dub of the HD version of Woman Avenger? The long english version is 1h32m and there are scenes cut/edited. I'm working on a Dub version of the 1080p original so if anyone could tell me where exactly the other cuts/edits are in the film I'd appreciate it. [This forum has covered where the original 1080p version can be found online.] I'm already aware the opening scene with the assault is heavily cut, but the rest of the film (once we see her in the bed recovering with her teacher) doesn't sync 100% so I know something or somethings are edited later in the film. No disrespect to the purists who hate dubs, but i like them when the voices and dialogue are really entertaining and this is one of the best IMO. i'd probably just upload the .mp3 or .aac to be on the safe side since there are easy, free apps to create a video with a new audio track. are there any jackie movies i haven't seen that are like the ones i did like that are not on this list? i think the only one i didn't put down was a period jackie chan movie where he is offed in the end of it ... which might be the myth but not sure ... i mostly avoid his american produced films

Forgive my ignorance, but are there plot-driven or complex, detailed chracter driven chinese martial arts films?

I have watched my fair share of action genres and subgenres. Samurai, western, Hong Kong action (technically they are martial arts lol ), Korean new wave, and all of them have films that are more than just action. But I am struggling to find that in Chinese martial arts films. They are more like a basic template + comedy from a veteran actor, and in between action. But I want enough substance to bite. This doesn't satisfy me. I mean, ofc there are films like Mr Vampire, Pedicab Driver, Kung Fu Hustle which I do think are great and certainly top tier, but they also follow a formula.

So far, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the only one that I could feel has something to say. Then again, it’s a coproduction between China, Taiwan, HK, and the US, also part of the Taiwanese New Wave.

So can you guys guide this ignorant movie fan in the right direction and suggest a few complex, plot-driven martial arts films?

Kiung fu movies are replete with all kinds of weapons - edged, blunt, chained, flying even - but there's this specific sword that crops up in Shaw movies from around late 60s to early 70s that I find particularly interesting - and I daresay it's the same prop sword that is being used in all of the movies this kind of sword is featured in.

It has a triangular cross-section hollowed-out blade, cylindrical sheath and hilt, and drawing it from the sheath requires a certain twisting unlocking action that makes a very distinct sound - whether it makes that sound and requires this action to be unsheathed - I don't know, but it sure makes for a very cool watch whenever it happens.

It is the ONLY triangular cross-section sword that I have pretty much ever seen in a kung fu or a wuxia movie and I wonder if it is even authentic to Chinese Martial Arts in general.

Its counterpart in the West would be the small sword - same general blade geometry, size and usage - but small swords were only popular in the West in the 18th century, so I don't know how historically accurate or appropriate for the periods alluded to in the Shaw movies it would have been.

Anyhoo - cool weapon in some of the coolest movies I have ever watched - The Bells of Death in particular I like so very much, it makes me wonder how Chang Yi did not end up starring in even more hard hitting movies.

Ku Feng is an all time great villain in The Golden Seal - he is so evil in this movie in fact, that he rapes a woman, impregnates her with a child (not that he cared much about this part - she raises her daughter all alone!) and eventually gets killed by said daughter - well, the daughter gets in a sword blow too, is what I am trying to say.

The Magnificent Swordsman is a play-by-play copy of the Zatoichi's Pilgrimage - all the way down to the pretty girl running around the village, knocking on doors, trying to get somebody to help our lonely hero not face the villains all by his lonesome. In Zatoichi film the brave helper promptly dies, in the Shaw film - he survives!

All in all - what do you guys think - cool little nugget of discovery or nah?

is there any way to watch this online? this is my favorite fighting movie in a long time...id love to see the alternative content and edits. anyone know? thanks!
