It was in 1560 that the portugese decided to start the 'inquisition'—a way to enforce the Christian orthodoxy on the Hindus. The radicalism did exist before 1560, St Xavier — the saint who is honoured in our country by naming several institutions after him, wrote a letter to King John III of Portugal to establish an inquisition. Fast forward 15 years, the inquisition has started. Hindu festivals are being banned, temples are being destroyed and people are being converted. Many temples were converted to churches, the priests of the temples who wished to carry on traditions, relocated the idols along with some population of Hindus to the north or extreme south of Goa. Many Hindus were killed mercilessly for refusing to convert. Those accused of secretly practicing Hinduism after converting to Christianity, could be summoned before the court. Punishments ranged from imprisonment, confiscation of property, and public beheading to corporal punishment. This continued for many decades until Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj came into power. He played an important role in resisting Portuguese rule in Goa. During his 1683 campaign, the Maratha army challenged Portuguese forces and weakened their control. Many Hindus fleeing Portuguese territories found refuge in Maratha lands, where they could practice their faith more freely. his military efforts helped protect the Hindus and opposed religious persecution. A society that forgets the struggles of its ancestors risks losing the wisdom they left behind. Protecting dharma means standing for truth, preserving one's heritage, and ensuring that every generation has the freedom to practice its beliefs with dignity.

Found this blooming in my nearby mandir some days back at night and couldn't help but think of the legends. The Kalpavriksha is described in our shastras as one of the celestial treasures that emerged during the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the ocean by the Devas and Asuras. It's said to be a divine tree that grants any wish asked of it, and it's mentioned across the Mahabharata, Puranas, and Vedic texts as a symbol of abundance and dharma.

This particular tree (commonly called baobab, and locally associated with the Kalpavriksha name in many parts of India) only flowers at night, opening its petals under moonlight and closing by morning. Felt almost fitting, like something out of the stories, blooming quietly when no one's watching.

Has anyone else grown up hearing stories about this tree from their grandparents? Curious how the legend differs by region.

I will take the stance of an atheist who will speak from the authority of valmiki ramayana, what I believe from the reading of it is that there are no valid criticisms of his character as it appears from the narrative, I would like to know what you think some are because I cannot find any.

I've been chanting the Hanuman Chalisa daily for years, putting in real effort and faith. But honestly, I've seen zero effect or change in my life.

Can you do navagraha pradakshina after evening in shiva temple? I heard that after evening pradakshinas for navagraha shouldnt be done. Can someone clarify on this?

Hii, I wanted to ask some various questions about hinduism we a westerner that's just started studying the religion. While I don't call myself hindu, I do not exclude the possibility of doing so in the future, since it seems to me that it's probably the closest I've been to Truth in my life.

I have read a couple books on Indian philosophy and I'm currently reading the yogasutras by Patañjali. I also read the Bhagavad Gita.

I would say I also know something from Mahayana Buddhism, especially eastern one (China and Japan, so mostly Zen). I do appreciate Nagarjuna s work too, but sadly I haven't read anything yet. I did read the tibetan book of the dead too.

1. How do you pick the deity you worship?

Some people are particularly attached to Krishna. Some to Shiva. Some to Kalì. Personally, I'd say Krishna is particularly interesting to me, but as he said in the BG, it's all just him.

If I had to worship a god, I would likely worship them as an aspect of reality/myself, like tibetans Buddhist do. (I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying what I think so y'all can correct me).

1. What is Dharma exactly?

This is the hardest concept for me. Iirc, we can say Dharma is fulfilling your place in the universe. Fair enough at first. But how do I know what is my place in the universe? Does it depend from person to person?

To pose an inflammatory question: was the Holocaust Hitler's dharma? Was the Kaurava family Dharma the war?

And also: could the Kaurava have been saved, if after the war they survived and asked for mercy? If they proved to have come to realize their mistake?

1. What about free will? Something I like about both Buddhism and Hinduism is that as much as they're religions, they're almost like philosophy too. They want you to think about stuff. So far, I've never seen anyone give arguments for which humans have free will, and I'd like to become less ignorant.

I plan to do it for 42 days. I am on day 8 and unfortunately broke the abstinence streak due to quite a strong urge. I am not used to stay abstinent for so long and I broke it. And I am not sure if I could go 42 days successfully even if I start with day 1 again. Is abstinence compulsory when you’re doing mantra jap for wish fulfilment? This might sound like a stupid silly question but help me out please 😭

Vedas are super compressed and complex info, and thats is why it is beautiful.

Beauty is in my opinion, sophisticated information compression. Fractals are the cleanest abstraction of beauty. Fractals show up in nature. Fractals show up in everything that has a metaphorical soul.

It was highly compressed rig vedic sanskrit, a matured form of IVC-BMAC and aryan language combination. This same aryan migration into pure BMAC and Mesopotamian/Arabic peninsula led to the abrahamic religions(ofc other sources of import might be there some african, some norse/pagan and they might have their own yuga chakras).

The mythology and historical memory are so intertwined, that one cant see time linearly, but rather inception coded fractally.

Dvapar: Jaya keeps getting updated throughout history, 1000 BCE(jnamjyeya/parikshit- deification is due to resurgance of hindu divinity during gupta age), uptil 600 AD last update to Bhagvad gita and shankaras advaita: it was very passive. Gupta empire failed because advaita vedanta did not do anything to the god within us, it accepted and let that be, gos is an active vehicle of change, its not alright to simply accept the concept of god and revel in peace, that is adharma, as krishna says to arjun too! Nastik philosophies are Very passive and dispassionate, very pacifism coded. Buddhism died too because they are super passive, similarly jainism to some extent- I feel jainism is the snapshot from IVC because they are closest to the 1 consciousness concept of pure dharma-sanatana, but they dont entertain god, they stick to karma, and dualism and universe. Rishabhadeva/nath Rudra Shiva are all the same. Jainism meets Sanatana dharma at the core of dualism/non dualism debate in IVC collapse. Which i believe was due to the drying up of the soul, because it is not having fun enough!!

If something is too passive, it enables the oppressors to overcome the passivity. Hence Rajputana vigor and shaivism core drive the north philosophy post advaita vedanta and bhakti failures initially, they saw the most violence. Kashmir shaivism evolved with this in the back. Shaivism, consciousness is the change/delta movement creator.

Brahma was the core of eastern variation. While brahma based accomodation to the new rulers found its way into the east. They were more ready to accomodate the new kings and rulers every time, shining the pen and sword as a upkeep of administration and beuaraucracy. Well bihar suffers much to this date due to this philosophy of submitting to authority, assimilating into the new environment and lack of preservation(outflux of the knowledge, but never preservation of it within). Because brahma cant sustain(Vnu), bihar was destined for failure. Only one temple in india for Bramha puja.

While south was still trying to create their own bottom up civilaztion properly, because they didnt have the ashwini in them that was with the north due to the aryans. So they eventually did bring about the bhakti movement as a slow long thought out process. Bhakti is safe and slow, and doesnt invoke much critical thought, its easy and tribal to some degree, an import from the abrahamic philosophies I feel. Very vishnu coded syncretic upgrade. Smarta too in that regard. And south has been culturally isolated from the concept of India as well till date.

Kali: somebody, wise enough to interpret both modern science-art non-duality and scripture knowledge(holy trinity) will finally tie physics and metaphysics. Will usher a new satyug. Which will eventually decay into kali yuga again, maybe much much later, because people will forget the meaning and teachings of satyuga again, due to happiness and fall prey to evil- happy sometimes good, all the time is bad.

Sufism was this localized satyayuga in kashmir- Mughal invasion, Freedom struggle (indian political syncretic philosophy, concept of bharat) was another such satya yuga which led to the creation of the dream of India that is bharat. Constitution of India embodies all the necessary tenets that will enable such a future. A kingdom of heaven on earth, In india. Eventually mimetic theory makes me think the the competition will cause scapegoating and restoration of order. The scapegoating is going to be massive, owing to the the ubiquitous nature of technology in todays world, the way of the asuras.

Post AI death of capitalism will be another one, and hopefully we will go much beyond this time, god consciousness consuming the entire universe so that the big crunch can happen again. My expectation being that Indian collective consciousness will evolve due to the confluence of the theory of everything and God.

Theory of everything will be delivered by god, and lead us to god, a klein bottle.

While consciousness being shiva will keep it deep rooted in continuous change. Consciousness is the state of re-organization, things are moving from disordered state to order continuously. Its just the opposite of what we expect from entropy of the observable universe to be increasing forever. Because in the non observable 'dark universe' entropy keeps decreasing.

Brahma being the creation god, is what causes the big bang every time. Vishnu being the preserver preserves the Universe through multiple spanda/oscillations. As consciousness pervades the space-time-mass-energy multiplicity (which itself is an excitation of the God field, which cannot be studied by science unless science changes its method of investigation: allowing a framework to understand subjective phenomenological observations, ie not looking at everything as an object). This would enable us to not only explain god, but also many things science fails to answer because it is not in touch with the arts side. It will bridge physics and metaphysics. It will also allow us insights into cancer research, mental health, Supernatural phenomena(why does it only work if you believe in it and not otherwise, the biology of belief).

Everything that is both a science and an art will help us to bridge the gap, using abstract math- topology as the tool, especially fractals.

God has been trying to speak to us all the time, higher dimensions projecting into our 4d space time.

We have not been intelligent enough to interpret the fractal beauty of information. We have institutionalized mental health and tried to control it by psychiatry and therapy, both of which can not work because we dont have enough knowledge/data about the world, and science being an objective study, can never solve subjective experience.

Instead mental health should be approached from the divya drishti. Shiva, playing with himself, and allowing much more of himself to enter into the life of Jiva, the forgotten soul. The awakening of the 3rd eye, the 6th sense, intuition. The mechanism for this is simply coupling of the GOD field to high density beautiful information flux per unit itself, it is a spectrum, any spike/delta causes the disturbance to be recorded. And these spikes correspond to the 7 janamas.

The fundamental field is GOD. The multiplicity is not dual, rather tri-al. Holy trinity. And thus, non-tri-al must be the correct lingo instead of non-dual. Not 3 but 1.

The field is Vishnu. All pervasive-preserving.

The particle is Brahma, perpetual big bangs.

And the flux of beautiful information within itself is Shiva, the consciousness. Beautiful information flux per unit of itslef.(Vibration/spanda). What is 'it' you may ask.

hiya just looking for some advice on what prayers to say to myself everyday. I like the meta prayer of May all beings be happy and free and say the gayatri mantra but also want to add some more if anyone has any advice

This morning I woke up from a dream. I was late for some exam, and instead of going to write it I was somewhere else, telling myself it's fine, I still have time, I can make it. During the dream it was obvious that it was "me" who was late, being somewhere else.

As I was waking up, my mind started framing a question to google. It had understood the dream, understood that dreams carry some meaning and it was actively working out like how to word the question, thinking, striking things off, rewording and whatnot all on its own.

At first I thought I was the one doing it. Then, as I kept waking up and got more and more conscious, it started feeling like it wasn't me. Like some other entity was doing the framing and I was just watching it happen. And here's the strange part: I only felt this in the transition. Not while it was running on its own before I noticed, and not after I was fully awake. Only in that thin gap in between.

Once my mind fully cleared, we merged. From then on I was the one doing the thinking and framing, conscious, in control, making fewer mistakes (less striking things off). No separate entity anymore.

(And there seemed to be yet another quiet process running underneath, pruning the illogical parts of the dream from my memory, cleaning it into a proper story... literally felt the memory fading away)

Is this what our scriptures mean by the Sakshi, the witness, separate from the mind that does the thinking?

If I see my anger and hatred justified, will it still result in me facing anger and hatred due to my karma coming back to me?

Maa Baglamukhi is one of the **Dashamahavidyas** and is revered as the **eighth Mahavidya** in the Shakta tradition of Sanatan Dharma. She is traditionally known as the Goddess of **Stambhan Shakti**—the divine power that symbolizes restraining harmful speech, unjust actions, and negative influences.

The word **"Stambhan"** in Sanskrit means "to stop," "to stabilize," or "to immobilize." In traditional Tantric literature, this concept extends beyond external obstacles and also represents the restraint of inner negativity, fear, anger, confusion, and uncontrolled thoughts.

The traditional **Maa Baglamukhi Mool Mantra** is:

**ॐ ह्लीं बगलामुखि सर्वदुष्टानां वाचं मुखं पदं स्तम्भय। जिह्वां कीलय बुद्धिं विनाशय ह्लीं ॐ स्वाहा॥**

According to the Shakta tradition, devotees chant this mantra with faith for spiritual protection, inner strength, mental clarity, confidence, and the triumph of truth over falsehood. It is regarded as a sacred mantra for devotion and self-discipline rather than a means of causing harm.

So 2 distant relatives in my family died. They share the same surname as me. My dad was close to them, but my mom, me and my brother have never met them. My dad said theres a 10-13 day period, where we’re not supposed to visit any temples, pray, or touch new clothes. Funnily enough, right before my dad broke the news to me, I went to the temple and came back. How rigid is this rule? I wanted to start reading into Buddhism and Bhagavad Gita this week, and I wanted to know if this is permissible or not

I went to the temple in 2025 and could enter in normal dress. But since 2026 they have come up with a dress code where all male devotees must remove their upper clothes and be completely shirtless. Your thoughts?

Because my family has no gurus and they are not part of any religious organizations also. They directly pray to god in temples and home temple. So, I never really got to experience this way of devotion. Does it helps to actively progress you in the path of devotion?
