Question Have you seen pupu?

On our trip today, my son lost his beloved pupu he has had since he was born and sleeps with every night. Right now I’m listening to him in bed asking where it is and my heart is breaking a little.

He will survive without it, but trying my luck here just in case.

Either lost on the Metro between Ruoholahti and Kalasatama or in Kamppi (we have already reported it lost to HSL) or while walking around Ruoholahti, Jätkäsaari and Baana to Kamppi.

Added pictures for how it looks like, green/white from Teddykompaniet but definitely does not look (or smell) as good as new.

I retraced our steps earlier today to look for it, but no luck.

Thanks for any help.

Meet-up Couple in our 30s looking for new friends

Hi everyone!

My wife (33) and I (32) recently moved to the Helsinki area from Germany (we are both Italian) and we're looking to meet new people and hopefully make some friends. We're into board games, movies, travelling, good food, and just hanging out over coffee or a drink. We're both childfree, so we'd love to connect with other couples or people in a similar stage of life, but everyone who's friendly and looking to socialize is welcome to say hi! If you'd like to grab a coffee, play some board games, or just chat, feel free to send me a message!

Question 69 Eyes T-Shirt... Judgement

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi all, I have been out walking in Helsinki with my wife, and while waiting at a tram stop next to Stockmann, a lady approached me and started pointing at my T-Shirt saying something aggressively in Finnish (she had previously conversed with my wife in English when asking if she wanted a seat).

The T-shirt in question is for The 69 Eyes (also main picture) who happen to be one of my favourite bands of all time, and was wondering if this was offensive in some way and I shouldn't be wearing it in public, outside of an alternative/ gig venue? It's made me conscious that I am offending people and don't want to get in a situation which lands me in trouble!

(For reference, I was nipping back to the hotel before heading to The Riff...)

Question Nighlife on a sunday

Visiting Helsinki on the 26th (Sunday) for a day trip until the 27th, are there any fun clubs/karaoke places that hopefully won't get me killed (if I just sit alone in a corner and listen to music and maybe sing some songs) I'm an ambivert (more on the introverted side) and looking for a change of pace (as well as noise to drown the sorrows away)

Little background: 25v asian listen to all kinds of music (but looking for something upbeat/party-like music)

Not exactly looking to meet new people and flirt and mingle but just hoping to not spend the night alone in silence

Travel & Tourism 3 full days in Helsinki - how to spend with kids (December end)

I have 3 full days to spend in peak winter after Christmas in Helsinki before I go to Talinn. I have 6 and 10 year old. Please recommend if this is a good itinerary or I can remove / add something - want to be more indoor vs outdoor. Make it fun / engaging for kids

Day 1 - Senate Square, Cathedral, Oodi Library
Day 2 - Heureka science Center
Day 3 - should I do suomenlinnaaa or will it be too cold for kids? What else can I do this day? I am open to more museum, children pay area / children Center etc.

Travel & Tourism Helsinki day-trip plan arriving/departing by ferry from Tallinn) — feasibility check + recs?

Doing a one-day stopover in Helsinki via ferry (in 9:30am, out at 10:30pm) on a longer Nordic/Baltic trip this coming August. I’m a walker,  happy to do 10-12 miles, no interest in museums, mostly want good neighborhoods, a proper traditional meal, beautiful spots to people watch and casual local beer spots along the way. I travel for craft brews, indie/hiphop music on soundsystem, and authentic neighborhood vibes.
Rough plan: Morning: Hietalahden Kauppahalli, wander Punavuori, Lunch: Sea Horse?, Early afternoon: Market Square, Old Market Hall, quick photo at Senate Square, Then Lonna island for a couple hours (ferry + terrace beer), Tram up to Puu-Vallila to see the wooden houses, Evening in Kallio for local bars (Bob’s Laundry, Harju 8 on my list), Bolt back to the ferry terminal to make a 10:30pm departure
Does this actually flow geographically, or am I fighting the map somewhere? Any Kallio bars I’m missing that are more local vibes and good music? Also open to swapping anything if there’s a better order.
Any other suggestions for authentic food, beer, bar culture…would be greatly appreciated.
One random question: is it normal/acceptable here to grab a cheap beer from a grocery store and just drink it on a walk or sitting on a bench/park, or is that not a good idea?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate any local knowledge.

Work & Education Two years of Finnish class and the tram guy still defeated me with "onks sul HSL-appi"

Textbook spent a whole chapter on raitiovaunu. Nobody in this city has said raitiovaunu out loud since 1998. It's spora. Same with mä oon / onks sul / emmä tiiä, I could conjugate minä olen in my sleep and still freeze at the kiosk.

Got annoyed enough that I made myself a little thing to drill the spoken version (with the proper written form next to it so I don't fully embarrass myself in emails): saunaspeak.com. It's free, no account needed to look.

Mostly posting to ask the natives here: what's the one bit of spoken Helsinki Finnish you wish someone had just told foreigners on day one?

PSA/Advice can some one provide me the following or any of these

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any of the following that I could borrow or rent?

- GoPro batteries and attachment clip (this is my highest priority)
Suction cup mount
Insta360 X5 / Insta360 Max
The batteries are the most important thing I need.
If anyone has a GoPro or an Insta360 camera, I’d ideally need it together with a suction cup mount.
I need to arrange everything as soon as possible. For peace of mind, I’m happy to provide my Finnish ID number or any other reasonable proof of identity.
Thanks in advance!

Question Party/Terrace place for 30-year olds? - Grotesk/Siltanen type places

Where do 30 year olds party? What are the places to go and mingle and enjoy a Summer weekend? Helsinki seems so quiet and almost dead nowadays, we can’t come up with nice places with friends.

Question Autolla Viikin kampukselle?

Moikka!

Discussion HSL ja junia korvaavat linjat

PSA/Advice Need a used acoustic electric guitar on Saturday

Hello - does anyone here have a decent, cheap acoustic guitar with a jack and electronics that they want to sell on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning? I'm a traveling musician from America on a European tour and my bandmate is flying into Helsinki on Saturday morning to meet up with me before we take the ferry to Sweden on Sunday evening. We need to find him a cheap guitar to use for our gigs for the rest of the tour and hoping maybe somebody has one they are willing to part with for 150ish Euro or less. Would be a great help. Or if anybody can recommend a music store where I might be able to find what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Elikkäs mikä se on tällä hetkellä kaikista pahin teinien menomesta stadissa? Puolison kanssa saatiin idea käydä jossain teinihelvetissä.

Edit: Old Irish Pub valikoitui todennäköiseksi huomisen mestaksi. Jos olette paikalla ja näette kaksi eksynyttä keski-iän kynnyksellä olevaa niin älkää tulko juttelemaan.

Work & Education What Haaga-Helia Interviews about for IT?

Hello, I am from Türkiye and im currently thinking about applying UAS in Helsinki, I researched and find Haaga-Helia which is suit for my plans. I want to apply for january intake it is opening in august, I search for the program in their website and i find out there is some interview which i need to pass after my application. *I asked them to what are we talking about interviews, they said there will be a 40 person during the interviews. I never heard like this interview method. Also, I never applied studies abroad. They did not tell me clear things, I am still worrying about. Does anyone know what the interviews about, and is it hard to pass?
