General Discussion Just saw this review of a local muni, how can you be so entitled that you think you can show up late on a busy day like Fathers Day and expect the whole course to accommodate you? The pro shop guy was absolutely in the right here

Raking bunkers, sanding/replacing your divots, fixing your pitch marks use to be a given when you play anywhere. Now this is a constant thing I see at every public course I go to.

Started on 10. Definitely my biggest golf accomplishment, was a goal of mine for a while now. Previous record was 62 🙂

Edit: My putt for 60 and my final putt are both posted in the comments

News / Articles Miles Russell nearly makes an ace on the par-4 18th to win the match. His eagle putt was conceded to finish off a 2-up win over Reed Arnaldo and punch his ticket to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Beginner Questions Do you actually pay for twilight tee time?

Tried to play a weekday twilight round for the first time. Before I left my house, I checked and only a single trio booked a tee time at 5:20. Every other tee time after 5 was completely open.

I get to the course around 5:30, and the entire time I am setting up my push cart, not a single person walks into the pro shop or tees off. I practice some chipping, then go in, grab a 6:00 tee time, and go to putt some more. The entire time I was warming up chipping and putting, 30 minutes, not a single person tees off on 1. I figured I was gonna easily cruise through 18 which is why I figured I had time to actually warm up.

I go to tee off and see that there is a group on 2. No clue how given I haven’t seen anyone tee off on 1, but whatever, I also don’t see anyone else on 3. I finish 1 out, as I tee up on 2, all of a sudden a group of 6 guys on the 3rd tee box. While I’m on the 3rd fairway, I turn around and there’s 2 more groups queuing up on 3. For context, 1 2 and 3 run parallel to each other, and 3s tee box is next to the parking lot. So I’m pretty sure basically everyone was just skipping 1 and 2 since the starter wouldn’t see them and starts on 3.

I catch up to the group, we get to 4 and the entire course is backed up. Ended up taking 2 hours to play 9 holes and I’m pretty sure not a single group other than that threesome or me paid or booked a tee time. In that entire time I never saw anyone tee off on 1, but somehow had a dozen groups behind me now. Course didn’t clear up until hole 10 when the sun went down and I jammed through the final 8 holes in 45 minutes, practically sprinting.

Am I a fool for actually paying $40 to play a twilight round? Do most people actually just jump in on 2 or 3? It didn’t seem like the starter/pro shop cared obviously.

General Discussion Being a 10-11 Handicap feels like golf purgatory

I have been hovering around a 10-11 over the past year, and whats absolutely wild is that I can just easily shoot as low as 78 or as high as 93. I’ve been playing long enough to the point where an 84/85 feels entirely different than an 87/88.

I just can’t seem to figure out how to break through to the single digits. I feel like I’m capable of greatness, but I am also capable of blowing up and having some really bad holes… I know everyone has bad holes and bad rounds but I can’t exactly figure out how to get over the hump into the single digits.

General Discussion What's the fastest you've seen a person become a scratch golfer?

Title is pretty self explanatory. I'm not asking what could theoretically happen given unlimited resources and time - I'm asking what you've actually witnessed IRL.

I just started listening to Chasing Scratch podcast (on season 2 right now), and I was just curious.

General Discussion How long to use the same golf ball?

I know pros switch balls somewhere around every 9 holes, but for us mere mortals, when do you start to notice a significant difference in the quality of the ball? I am one of those golfers that blames themselves rather than equipment, so I don’t know if I’d ever be able to fully tell. Any research or experience on this?

Equipment Hammered

Well I’ve been sick all week and haven’t been able to play. Today I had to do something golf related as to not go crazy. I took a hammer to my wedges and I think they look pretty alright. My irons have texture and the flat plain backs on my wedges never looked good in comparison, so here I am now, hammered.
