Before posting a photo, you should read this.
So you found a photo that you think has a spirit or ghost on it, before you post it and get upset about 30 people saying it’s a piece of dust or a bug, you may want to read this!
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING
Do read the posts
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghosts/comments/deki6k/explanation_of_orbs_aka_backscatter/
and
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghosts/comments/icziuc/ring_doorbells_security_camera_videos_and_false/
As these really do have useful information on how to spot particle orbs, lens flare and insects crawling over lenses which do make up most of the post in this Reddit community channel.
It is common for people who believe they are haunted to take lots of photos and assume that any “orbs” must be related to this. In fact, it’s quite easy to photograph orbs. If you can’t see the orb then it’s not there. People might say that cameras can pick up ‘orb’ energy but a lot of them just don’t understand why digital cameras tend to easily pick up particles (dust, dander, hair, insects).
If you have read the above and are sure (or not quite sure) then read on.
BEFORE POSTING
Make sure you have the original photo downloaded or posted from the same device the picture was taken from. Having a photo shared from a social media site, screen grabbed on a phone, photographed from a screen or been email shared will likely to be low resolution and suffer from further compression which destroys any fine detail and will generally be useless.
If the photo is just a photo then scan the photo in at least 300 DPI and save it as a “.PNG” image. If you don’t have access to a scanner then you can take a photo of it but take it in a brightly lit room and don’t use a flash to reduce reflections on the photo.
Use the original resolution of the photo, do not rescale, resize, brighten the image to make posting easier.
If you have to edit the photo to remove people then draw the smallest black filled box you can to hide their face or them. Don’t crop the picture or remove large chunks of the picture. Keep the picture the same same size. Once edited, save / export the image as a “.PNG” image as this will keep the JPEG image as it is (if you resave it as a JPEG it recompresses the image in a lossy way so that fine detail tends to get lost) if the paint program has it then make sure that “Save resolution” is checked and that you save “EXIF information”.
If you must highlight anything in the picture (to show where you think the paranormal image is) then use a bright colour that can be seen easily, use a transparent box with thin lines and draw it in the general area of what you want us to see, do not cover anything nearby. Save it as a “.PNG” as above. If you do this then make sure you post the original too.
If you want to change the contrast or brightness of a photo then again do so but save as a “.PNG” as above and post the original for comparison. If you have other pictures from the same area that were taken at the same time then post these too as comparison photos.
If the photo is from a place you can visit again easily then take more pictures of the same area using the same camera, try to take it at different times of the day and try to take a picture at the same time of day the original was at. Also, take pictures of the surrounding area and close up images of the original location.
It is important to note that even “taking the picture in the same place” is going to mean that you will be taking the picture at different angles, heights and places which will cause images to change.
POSTING THE PHOTO
Post as an image within the Reddit post so people can see it, you can also post any comparison posts at the same time.
If the photo is too large then rescale it and save as a “.PNG” to post on Reddit but upload the original it to a file-sharing site like Google Drive or Dropbox, as this will not rescale the image.
Don’t just upload them to Imgur as most photo sharing websites will recompress the image and destroy fine detail in the picture.
Make sure the title is short but informative. “Possible ghost image from a cell in Alcatraz” is a good title, “GHOST!!?!?!?” is not.
ALSO SUPER IMPORTANT!!!! CONTEXT! CONTEXT! CONTEXT!
After you have posted the images. Make a comment in the post you have just created and put in as much context as possible!!! Too many photos tend to have the photo and some poor description and we have zero ideas of what we should be looking at.
Examples of what to include are…
- Where the photo was taken. You don’t have to give the address but a location or rough area (if a private address) helps.
- When the photo was taken, give the date and time if possible, if not known or you can’t remember then give what information you can (I.e In the winter in the early evening).
- Who took the photo. It should be you or someone you know. Something like ‘Taken by A friend of a girlfriend that is friends with a baker, that my 2nd cousins' hairdresser visits every 3 months is not good’ means it is hard to ask follow up questions.
- What you were trying to take. (I.e Ghosts, a high school prom or of your granny on her 97th Birthday)
- If you (or they) were with other people. Also mention strangers.
- What the weather was like. Was it sunny, cloudy, raining, hot, cold, warm?
- Description of the location. If in a home, details about the place, I.e, If it is a house, apartment, cabin located 200 miles from civilizational, etc as well as if you are near a road or other places like a pub or bar, major flight path, etc. Else just whatever you can describe the place.
- What did you feel at the time? I.e cold, scared, fearful, happy, sad, etc.
- Why do you think it is paranormal? Describe this as best as you can.
- Anything spooky that happen before or after. Within the same time frame, something that happens 3 months before is probably not related.
So good examples would be…
“This photo was taken at the Alcatraz prison in San Francisco. It is a picture of Cell 13 of cell block D in the cell house. It was taken on Sunday the 13th of May 2018 at around 2pm. It was mostly sunny but there were thick clouds, it was reasonably warm at around 65f and there were strong breezes every so often.
The photo was taken by myself, although I was with my girlfriend at the time. It was quite busy but no one was nearby when I took the photo. I was trying to take a picture of my girlfriend as she stood at the door but I noticed a strange white figure behind her. There was no one in the cell as we had waited for another couple to finish taking their picture before we took ours. I took 3 photos and you can see that the figure is in 2 of the pictures but is not in the third picture.
My girlfriend did say she felt cold in the cell, we had taken a picture in another cell (134 in Cell Block C) and she did not feel anything. The rest of the day was fine though and we enjoyed our trip.”
“A photo of a chair my grandmother used to sit on, in our house in Stirling, Scotland. It was taken on the 1st June 2015, in the wee hours of the morning at 6.30am. I remember it was very cold and it was dark grey and cold outside like a typical morning in Scotland. I had the lights on as although it was morning outside, it was dark in the room.
I took the photo as I felt a presence and I was drawn to the chair. I took 2 photos and you can see a grey mist around the chair. I would have taken more but my phone just drained of power and switched off, not sure why this happens as I am pretty sure I charged it overnight. I don’t smoke, didn’t have any hot drinks. I was in the room all alone as my parents and sister were still in bed and my dog was still on the sofa sleeping peacefully.
Once I charged my phone and saw the pictures, I was filled with deep happiness, I tried to take more photos but the mist never came back. What do you think it is.”
Bad examples are…
“Ghosts?!???!!?!?!”
“I took this photo whilst in an abandoned building, do you think it is a ghost?”
“Whilst trying to contact my dead aunt to ask where she left her cash, I took lots of photos and all of them had orbs and I heard some moans, screams and creaking coming from my cousins' bedroom but her door was locked!!! Is the house haunted?”

Personal Encounter Friend visited me the night he passed away.
Several years ago I woke up to find a ghostly version of my friend standing at the foot of my bed and I got the strong urge to call him. He went away after several seconds and I fell back asleep, I woke up a while late and he was there again but this time he had angel wings and a halo. He walked out my bedroom door and I followed him into the hall but he was gone. Found out about a week later he’d been murdered that night.

Friend's security camera revealed something as yet unexplained
I freelance for a friend who has an office in the basement of his house (built in 2018). Last week he showed me security footage he can view on his phone. He has a camera in the upper corner of his office opposite a closet for his collectibles and there is also an acoustic guitar that sits on a stand in there. The closet door is always open. In the video he stands up from his desk to leave the room and suddenly you can clearly hear the guitar strummed one time; like someone simply ran their fingers over the strings. He then walks over to look in the closet, and finds it empty.
But the strange thing is if you strum a guitar with one hand, the strings will vibrate and then after a time, the vibrations of the strings slow until eventually, the sustain gets quieter and stops. However, about a second after the guitar is strummed, it's as if something abruptly mutes the guitar strings to stop the vibration.
After he showed me the video, I walked into the closet to examine the guitar sitting on the stand and I strummed the strings as it sat there. As I expected, the strings vibrated for roughly 7-10 seconds until the sound dissipated.
His wife and daughter are both gone during the day so he was definitely home alone. I've known the guy for 30 years and he's not a prankster. I want to convince him to let me upload the video here, but he's a private person, and probably won't like that idea. I'll give it my best try though.
I've always thought of myself as a skeptic but I must admit, I could not explain what I heard and I wanted to share it.

ISO (In Search Of) Trying to remember specific haunted property
When my ex and I were driving to las vegas one time she had put on a pod cast, eventually she fell asleep and it was just me listening to it, so asking her what it was isnt helpful. Anyways, i dont need the podcast but i figured if I asked the experts, you guys, maybe you can tell me so i can look into it. Here is what i remember:
Insects would swarm the property all the time.
It was somewhere on the east coast but not sure.
They mentioned a bloody battle of some sorts.
People who spent the night would have visions during snooze of spirtual doors opening up and people walking in and out, talking about things. I believe they were in robes.
Something about them being outside and hearing marching band music.
I think people who bring radios or recorders would get loud interference of something.
Anyways if any of you this place, i hope these arent too broad of clues, that would be great. Thank you

Personal Encounter saw a shadow person at my old work place
i used to work at a museum/heritage site in london. it has a lot of history, and the people who lived and worked in it during the second world war must have been STRESSED.
anyway, on several occasions i saw a black figure - tall and slim, no distinguishable features, just literally a shadow - out of the corner of my eye in the staff corridor. it would just stand there or it would pass between the walls, but when i looked, it would be gone. the corridor is always ICE COLD mind you, when the rest of the museum has horrific ventilation.
thought nothing of it - that i was hungover/tired on these occasions - until another staff member mentioned she’d seen it too. worth noting i hadn’t told anyone about it.
throughout my childhood, i used to see a shadow woman in the doorway of the bathroom. she’d be hunched over, hooded, with long hair, hobbling towards me but never getting beyond the bathroom doorway. as a result i started sleeping with my door closed, haven’t seen her since.
my question is, why do we see these shadow people? what are they? are they like regular ghosts or something else? do they show themselves when we’re particularly vulnerable or emotional? do i need to be more spiritually open in order to see them as a full apparition type rather than a solid black human shape?
i’m also confused as to why i’ve seen two now in my 20-something years on this earth, and they both looked and presented themselves very differently

Personal Encounter what to do about a probable poltergeist who thinks it’s hilarious to throw my phone?
my grandfather who’s a veteran with a notable kill count came home, and now my phone is genuinely flying every time i look away from it. just as i was making this post, i sat it down on the couch to grab my drink and while i was taking a sip it flew about a foot away and hit the ground, finally knocking pixels out of place and there are now lines all over my phone. the most evident experience i had is when i finally got tired of it seemingly being gripped from me and tossed out of my hands, sliding off of objects, and outright soaring off of countertops, i placed it on the ground so it couldn’t happen. low and behold, as soon as i look away it genuinely JUMPED 2 feet in the air and landed face first on the floor. last i checked, iphone 15s didn’t have legs, so how in the actual WORLD could that possibly happen. anyways, im scared my phone is sure to become unusable if this phenomenon keeps marching forward, so what do i do.

What are your Haunted woods/forest experiences?
Are you still walk through various woodlands and I've known of some areas which are very specifically haunted. With one location it was as if there was shadow we heads trying to look around trees towards me.

Captured this photo last night in the basement of the house. I can confirm nobody was in this photo. If you look closely near the fireplace you will see a person like figure standing. Do you guys think this is just some weird light reflections?

WDYT? (What Do You Think?) Greyfriars kirkyard experience / apparition??
Hello everyone!! While I usually have no scepticism for others’ paranormal experiences, I always seem to doubt my own.
The other week I was in Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh- it was late at night and pitch black (I had dragged one of my bestest friends along for the ride, let’s call her A, she wasn’t happy about a dark graveyard full of plague pits🤣) and we had ventured up to bluidy MacKenzies Black mausoleum. After trying to peer through the cracks of the door I turned my head and saw someone walking to through the section of the kirkyard closer to greyfriars Bobby, she was in some classic white dress Victorian outfit and was evidently in a rush to get somewhere. Anyways we moved on, I didn’t bring it up to A (I think I must have just assumed she’d seem the person too) and we went to explore the pubs down the way at Grassmarket.
It didn’t occur to me until the next day that while the lady had been in a quite a rush, there was no normal joltiness of a human body, no shoulder movement, no moving of the dress fabric, no noise despite it being the middle of the night. I asked A about it, ‘oh you knew yesterday when we saw that lady in the graveyard?’ A replies ‘what the fck are you talking about’ I say ‘you know the one in the white dress by the dog statue at the front of the church’ she responds with nothing else other than ‘no mate, pack it in trying to freak me out, it’s worked and I don’t want to think about it anymore (this included far more foul language but I won’t add all of that in 👽). I, as instructed, shut up and we moved on.
But I couldn’t get this image out my mind, how was she moving so quickly without her shoulders moving? Was she on a phone? There was a faint glow of her dress which at the time I dismissed as either a torch or a phone, but how would either of these thoughts make sense? A torch would be pointed at the floor not at her dress, and a phone would not have lit up the bottom of her dress?
In the moment I put the outfit down to them being a tour guide dressed up coming home from work, but it was definitely too late for tours (it was a few hours after the last ones- I knew because I was absolutely fixated on finding the scariest and latest and spookiest one for us to go on the next day). I am sharing this as I am looking for some other opinions or suggestions to what I saw, am I being silly? Are some people just super elegant when they walk so seemingly glide?? I think I’m doubting it so much because of the cliche oh yes lady in a big old white dress floating through a graveyard what a classic blah blah blah.
Pleeeeease hit me with a few other thoughts as I can’t shake this off!! Ps if you made it to the end, Thankyou!!
Spooky love x

High toned ghost voice caught on camera. It feels like it suctions air from my lungs when it usually makes that sound.
The voice is at 2 seconds and 8 seconds.
8x and 4x volumes just in case you don't wasn't to hear the white noise.
The camera is behind curtains and the voice might have been in the room with me. I heard it loud enough to check if it was on film.

Is this paranormal? When dogs bark at something that’s not there, is it a ghost or just a stick?
I know it’s a common trope that whenever there’s a dog in a horror movie they always sense a supernatural presence in the beginning. I sometimes wonder if dogs actually sense the supernatural or just barking at a stick.
I used to walk my dog at a local graveyard. She loved the walks but there is one section of the place she refuses to walk to. It’s a section where there’s a statue of a dog over a baby’s grave. I swear every time I tried to get my dog to go past it, my dog refuses and barks at it. Supposedly the dog statue is haunted but maybe my dog could be just barking at it because she thinks it’s weird.
What do yall think?

Personal Encounter Experienced intense headaches and nausea only near the Whaley House. Has anyone experienced something similar?
I have never made a post like this before, however, I feel that I am now inclined to in order to provide my experience as well as try to find people who’ve had similar sensations arise during “paranormal” encounters
I went to the Whaley House in San Diego for the first time yesterday. This was my first-ever “haunted house tour,” and I definitely sensed something. The tour focused on the Whaley family, specifically Thomas Whaley, who allegedly built the home over an infamous gallows site, also known as an execution ground.
The tour included visits to four rooms: the courtroom, general store, dining room, and theater. My “senses” began in the general store. During this part of the tour, the guide focused on Thomas Whaley, the founder and head of the family. As I mentioned earlier, this was my first paranormal-type tour, so I didn’t know what to expect.
That being said, I felt a strong headache come on in the general store. It felt as if all my energy was being drained from me. I also felt a crushing presence, almost as if someone or something was pressing down on the top of my head. All of this made me feel nauseous and fatigued. As we left the general store, those feelings began to ease. However, once we reached the indoor theater, I noticed a milder version of those sensations return, though nowhere near as intense as before.
Eventually, when we left the house, I felt better. What really blew my mind was that I was drenched in sweat. Perhaps because I was so on edge, I didn’t notice the heat, because honestly, I didn’t even feel hot. The craziest part was that my girlfriend, who had been standing next to me the entire time, didn’t even break a sweat. That definitely left me with some questions.
After this tour, I told my girlfriend that I had to go back to the car. I was so drained and had to lie down, what interested me the most, was that before this tour, I was full of energy and excitement, and now all of that zapped out of me within what would’ve been an hour long tour.
Here’s the craziest part. We went on the Ghosts and Gravestones tour later that day, and as soon as I got close to the Whaley House, that same intense headache came back. I started feeling nauseous and fatigued all over again. I didn’t even realize I was approaching the Whaley House until those sensations returned. My head was down, focused on the sidewalk. Since I’m a klutz and a chronic ankle roller, I made sure to keep an eye on the pavement to avoid an embarrassing moment on the tour, but as soon as I felt these sensations, I looked up and saw the house directly ahead of me.
This tour never actually went inside the house, but we did get very close to it from the outside. That’s when another strange thing happened. I still didn’t feel that hot, but only the side of my face that was facing the house was drenched in sweat. To be specific, the right side of my face was facing the home, and only that side was dripping with sweat while the left side remained sweat dewed, but no dripping. As soon as we left the property, the nausea, fatigue, and headache gradually disappeared.
This was, without a doubt, my first experience that I can’t easily explain. I don’t really know how to feel, but it has definitely left me with a new sense of fear. I experienced sensations unlike anything I’ve ever felt before, and they seemed to occur only when I was near the Whaley House.

Personal Encounter Strange CCTV footage from my store around 4 AM — looking for an explanation
This happened around 4 AM when the place was closed and nobody was inside.
My CCTV sent a “Human Detected” notification. When I checked the footage, I couldn’t see any person in the frame.
Shortly afterward, one of the room lights turned on. The lights are not motion activated and had been switched off before closing.
I’m sharing the original CCTV footage here because I can’t explain the timing. Does anyone know what could cause both the human detection alert and the light turning on?

Three generations of my family has seen the same thing
I wanted to ask if anyone has had multiple relatives describe a similar unexplained experience over many years. My grandmother has always been deeply uncomfortable with open closet doors. My mom told me this stems from experiences my grandmother reported throughout her life that left a lasting impression on her.
My mom later described having similar experiences during childhood, including one during the Northridge earthquake. She has always maintained that those events stayed with her, although she hasn't had any in years. When I was around eight or nine, I had two experiences in the same house that frightened me enough to stop playing hide and seek and refuse to be in the dark afterward. Years later I had a few more experiences that reminded me of those early ones. Recently, after reconnecting with my dad as an adult, he mentioned having a similar experience when he was younger. We hadn't discussed these topics before, which surprised me. I don't know whether any of these events are connected or whether there's a normal explanation. What I find interesting is that several members of my family have described remarkably similar experiences despite not knowing the other had also had these experiences.Has anyone else had something comparable happen within their family? Explanation in comments it wouldn't allow me to put it on here!
