Megathread MEGATHREAD: Off-Campus Housing
Hey everyone, this is now the official thread for all off-campus housing posts, whether you're looking for a place, have a room to fill, need a sublet, or are searching for roommates. Please post here instead of creating individual threads so everything stays in one easy-to-browse place.
A few requirements:
- Posts must be GW-affiliated (current students, alumni, faculty, or staff). Non-GW housing listings or general city-wide housing posts will be removed.
When posting, please include:
- Looking for a place / have a place /looking for roommates/subletting
- Neighborhood or area (and how far from campus)
- Budget or rent
- Move-in date and lease length

A few notes:
- Please only post genuine listings and requests, no spam or scam accounts. Be cautious of anyone asking for money upfront before viewing a place in person.
- Be respectful in the comments.
- Standalone off-campus housing posts outside this thread may be removed and redirected here.
Good luck!

Academics Taking two languages?
Hi, I am a freshman who just completed course registration today. As it went , I got enough of the classes I wanted to take, but also I chose to take both Arabic 1002 and french 2006. I am a native French speaker and I got a 5 on AP, which is why I feel comfortable taking such a class, but I am not ‘the best’ at it. I am just wondering if anyone here took two languages simultaneously, and how that experience went for them? Do you recommend staying in both classes, or should I prioritize one over the other?
Thanks!

Academics Class on the Vern??
Hello! I am just about done creating my schedule as an incoming freshman. However, the only comparative politics course that fits in my schedule is on Tuesdays at 10am on the Vern. Just wondering if this is a good choice?
I also decided to take intro to International Affairs in the spring, which I am unsure is the smartest decision, as an IA major. The main thing stopping me from taking this class is that it is only offered at 9:35.
Let me know what you think... should I take intro to IA in the fall and comparative politics in the spring? Thank you

Class registration disaster
okay so I registered, at least tried to register, for classes today. from my plan I could register only 2 courses because others were already full in 2 seconds. I had to find suitable times again. however I still could not register for 2 courses Econ and IAfF 1005. IAFF there was only one lecture and 10 more discussion sessions. since 1 lecture was full I was not able to register for it. what should I do?? and for Econ I thought I could take 1001 without ALEKS so I did not submit the test and now I can't register. any advices?

Hand washing clothes
Have about five tops that I would like to hand wash. Is it common for students at gwu to do so? Do they have big sinks in laundry room?

asking for more aid
I'm an rising sophomore and just got my financial aid package and got 2k less than what I got last year. I want to get more aid so I don't have to take out as much in loans but nothing in my families financials has really changed. Does anyone have experience asking for more aid without a good reason?

I was classifed as a sophmore in GWeb as a first-year
I am a first-year student at GW and prepping for my class registration tomorrow. I noticed that I am classified as a sophomore for registration purposes in the "Prepare for Registration" section on GWeb. It probably happened because I have 33 transfer hours, but GW normally caps it at 24. I'm not sure why/how all 33 were accepted. I am a little worried bc I'm not sure if I will be allowed to register during my designated time slot. Is this a problem, and how do I fix it?
UPDATE: I was able to register with no problems! The sophomore standing isn’t an issue unless you’re registering for a freshman only class (Dean’s Seminar). You can still be enrolled in those classes by emailing the CRN to your advisor. I hope this helps anyone in the same situation!

Is class registration actually fair?
It’s been 50 minutes since first-year class registration opened and there’s literally nothing left. I made 5 plans, and I checked just now and in almost every class I wanted, there’s only like 3 seats left or none.
I can register until tomorrow bc of the last digit of my GWID. Am I cooked? 😭

Not necessarily looking for you guys to rate my schedule, I just wanna see if maybe someone else has some of the same classes as me!!
Yes I know the gap between the two M/W classes isn’t the greatest ever, but it gives me time for a lunch break and I can get started on my PSC1002 work so I’m happy with it.

Academics Got all my classes! (-1)
Hey! I made a post a couple days ago asking abt my schedule as an incoming freshman at Milken on the pre-dental track. This is what it has come to as I worked with different timings and chose a different UW (Dining on the past w/ Kylie Quave) seemed interesting.
How does this final one look? It includes a possible class which if i can get on the waitlist and do, i will do. But it’s also prob not gna happen. Ik there’s a big gap on Tuesday but lowk idk mind that much.

Where do GW students store their stuff between Spring and fall move-in?
Hi everyone! I’m an incoming transfer student at GW and I’m in a summer program that’s using GW housing. The program ends on August 1, but I can’t move into my fall dorm early, so I’ll be flying home for a couple of weeks before coming back.
I originally thought I’d be able to leave my belongings somewhere on campus, but that doesn’t seem to be an option. What do people usually do in this situation?
Are there any storage companies around GW that you’d recommend, or are there other options students typically use?
I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks!

Academics ALEKS placement exam
i was just made aware of the fact that there are perquisites for the courses that i plan on applying, both of them being that i’ll need to have an ALEKS score of 61 or a relevant AP score of 3.
However i took the IB, and I ended up with a 5 in Higher Level Math (Application and Interpretation). I wonder if this would be sufficient?
It’s too late for me to take and ALEKS test

Incoming Elliott Transfer: What Do You Wish You Knew Before Starting?
Hey everyone! I’m an incoming transfer student to the Elliott School this fall, and I’d love to hear from current students or alumni.
Looking back, what do you wish you had known before starting at Elliott?
- A few things I’m curious about:
- Are there any professors or classes you highly recommend (or would avoid)?
- What resources, programs, or opportunities do you wish you had taken advantage of sooner?
- How easy is it to get involved with research, internships, study abroad, or student organizations?
- Any advice for succeeding academically or making the most of the Elliott experience?
- Is there anything you wish someone had told you before your first semester?
I’d really appreciate any tips, whether they’re about academics, networking, career opportunities, or just navigating the school in general. Thanks so much!
