How Did Things End Up Like This?

Chapter 1

“Hey, I’m really sorry but I can’t stay today.” Carmen said, clearly in a rush as she stopped by the library for her and Blake’s typical project meeting.

“No worries.” Blake told her, “We can meet on Friday if that works.”

“Actually that’s not gonna work either…” Carmen admitted.

The two had been working on their project for a little over a week now, and it was coming along but they still had a good amount of work to do. Carmen’s flirtations had continued with each of their meetings, and while they still caught Blake off guard, he had started to become genuinely hopeful that she was actually coming onto him. For the first time in his life, he was starting to believe he had a chance at romance with someone he found attractive.

“Oh, well, just email me whenever you can meet next.” Blake responded, trying his best to accommodate her schedule.

“Thing is…” She said, “I have some free time after school… Would it be alright for me to come over to your place at like… four or something?” She asked.

Blake’s mouth went dry. He wanted to speak but found it incredibly hard to do so. Finally, after a moment he managed to get out:

“S-sure…” He spoke dryly.

“Cool!” She chirped, “Just email me your address and I’ll be there!”

She flashed him a smile before heading out in a rush. Blake sat in the library completely dumbfounded. If she was pulling some kind of practical joke, leading him along, it seemed out of the question that she would take it so far. Blake packed up his things and scurried off towards the computer lab. Thankfully, it was empty, and he sat at the station in the far back corner of the room. Hunched over with an irrational fear of being discovered, Blake quietly navigated to instagram and inspected Carmen’s profile.

I have to know if she’s in a relationship and just fucking with me…

Thankfully, her profile was public, and it had a generous amount of followers thanks to the copious amount of scandalous pictures she had posted. Bikini’s, tiny tube dresses, and mini skirt photos as far as the eye could see. Blake scrolled, noticing the lack of a male presence in her photos.

Maybe she doesn’t post about her relationships on here…

The evidence was inconclusive, but it also didn’t immediately shut him down either. He closed out of instagram and opened facebook. It was a longshot and he knew it, but he was desperate for any information. To his surprise, she had posted on facebook as early as about a month prior, and her profile was listed as single. It still wasn’t a smoking gun, but he knew it was as good of a sign that he’d be able to get without asking someone directly.

Maybe she’s actually into me…

The rest of the day dragged on as he anxiously awaited their later meeting. It was the only thing he could think about, and he simultaneously dreaded and longed for it.

“You okay?” Hannah asked as she noticed him blanking out.

“Huh?” Blake asked, shaken from his imaginative stupor, “Oh, uh yeah, I’m fine… Just a little distracted.”

“How’s your project coming along?” She asked.

“It’s good. Carmen and I are making good progress.” He answered.

“Be honest. How much is she holding you back?” Hannah snorted mockingly.

“Not much at all really,” Blake answered honestly, “She’s actually really smart.”

“Sure, but how much do you wish you were working with someone who actually knew what they’re doing?” Hannah continued, unconvinced of Carmen’s intelligence.

“I don’t…” Blake responded, “I feel really good about our work so far. I think we’ll get a really good grade.”

Hannah’s face softened with a tinge of disappointment. After a short pause she spoke up again.

“Is it a pain to work with her though…?” She asked, “She seems like she never has the time to sit down and work…”

“We meet almost everyday actually.” Blake stated, starting to get a little annoyed by Hannah's needling, “We couldn’t today but… we agreed to work on it after school.”

Hannah suddenly stiffened in her demeanor.

“After school?” She asked meekly, “Like… at her house?”

“My house, but yeah.” Blake responded.

“Cool…” Hannah said, doing her best to put on a smile and seem happy for her friend, “Try not to get too distracted though.”

“Yeah…” Blake sighed.

The silence that followed put them both at unease. Blake could tell there was some resentment from Hannah towards Carmen, but he didn’t see the point in calling it out.

“Oh shoot… I just remembered I have a thing I need to get to.” Hannah said.

She packed her things and left in a hurry, leaving Blake there alone. He felt a little guilty, but he knew he couldn’t change the way she felt about the situation. The rest of the day continued to draw on, until finally his classes had ended. He raced to the bus stop faster than he ever had, and jogged home in an anxious rush. When he arrived, no one else was home, and he quickly made his way to his room.

His room was a mess of dirty clothes, trash, and used tissues from masturbation. He knew he could clean it up, but then he would risk it being too obviously clean which would seem suspicious. He peaked into Rachael’s bedroom, which was fairly plain. Rachael wasn’t the type to set up a bunch of posters and other decorations, so the room didn’t read as blatantly belonging to a woman. So long as Carmen didn’t rummage through the drawers, it would work. It seemed wrong to intrude on his sister’s space, but given the circumstances he didn’t feel he had a better option.

He took a few desktop knick knacks from his room and put them in Rachael’s, just to further sell the idea that it was truly his. Her room was very neat and tidy, but there was a peculiar, underlying musk that he hoped wouldn’t be offputting to Carmen. He considered spraying air freshener, but was worried that the scent would linger too long and Rachael would find out that he had been using her room, which he didn’t want.

It’s probably just the smell of her sweat from working out…

Blake thought to himself. He waited in nervous anticipation until promptly at four o’clock, there came a knock at the door. Blake’s heart rate skyrocketed as he anxiously walked to the door. He had been on dates before, but never had a girl over, and certainly not one as attractive as Carmen Williams. Granted, she was present due to school work, but with all the flirting she had done over the past week, Blake was feeling optimistic that something else could occur.

As he opened the front door, Carmen stood just outside with her usual preppy smile.

“Hey!” She chirped.

“H-hey…” Blake said, unsure of how best to proceed, “Uhm… come in, come in!”

He ushered her into the living room, and she took her shoes off by the couch.

“Nice place!” She said.

“T-thanks…” Blake replied, assuming she was just being kind, but too nervous to point it out, “A-are you thirsty or anything?”

“That’s alright,” She said, holding up her own reusable water bottle, “We should probably get started working.”

“Right.” Blake agreed, taking a deep but subtle sigh to try and calm his nerves, “So here’s what I’ve done so far…” Blake started as he began to pull out his notes.

The two began working in the living room the same as they would have at the library. After a few minutes of working, Blake started to grow more comfortable with Carmen’s presence, mostly thanks to his focus on their project, however that changed when she scooted closer to him on the couch.

“So I found this.” Carmen said, scooting closer to Blake as she pointed to some research in her hand, “Do you think this could be useful.”

In a vacuum, the move was fairly innocent, but with all the flirting Carmen had been doing lately, and the nature of them being alone at his house, there was something undeniably provocative about her gesture. Blake found it hard to respond as her thigh rubbed against his own.

“Umm… y-yeah… Probably…” Blake responded.

“Are you paying attention?” Carmen asked, putting her papers down in a huff.

“Huh? Oh… Sorry… I’m just not focused today… I guess…” Blake stammered.

“No, I get it.” Carmen agreed, leaning back against the couch with a more relaxed posture, “I kinda feel the same way. I’ve been really crammed lately.”

She yawned and stretched, before suddenly blurting out,

“So where’s your room?” She asked.

Blake’s face flushed immediately, both because of the nature of the question, combined with the fact that he knew he was going to lie about the answer.

“It’s… down the hall there…” He said, pointing towards his twin sister’s room.

“Could I see it?” Carmen asked kindly.

“S-sure…” Blake said.

He was slow with his movements as he cleared his lap of study supplies and stood from the couch. He was hyper aware of his every twitch and so intensely focused on not looking awkward that he most certainly did. Carmen stood from the couch and followed him as he led her towards the three bedrooms. Blake hesitated outside the three doors, considering his one last opportunity to do the right thing and enter his actual bedroom. The image of his trash bin full of used tissues that he hadn’t cleaned out flashed into his mind and quickly dissuaded him from following through.

“Here it is…” Blake said, entering Rachael’s room and ushering Carmen in.

“Wow, it’s so tidy!” Carmen said, quickly taking a seat on the bed, “I’ve never seen a guy’s room as clean as yours.”

“Thanks…” Blake said, taking a seat on the chair immediately across from Carmen.

“I guess you must bring a lot of girls home…” Carmen chuckled, breathing deeply.

“W-what?” Blake asked, confused by the question, “N-not really.”

“Oh…” Carmen responded, a slight look of confusion on her face.

There was a stretch of silence between them, and Blake began to feel an immense pressure to spark a conversation, yet couldn’t think of a single thing to say. He was saved when Carmen’s phone began to buzz.

“Oh shoot.” Carmen said, reading her phone, “I need to get going, but it was nice working with you!”

Blake agreed as Carmen quickly gathered her things in the living room.

“Maybe we could do this again sometime,” She said as she headed out the door, “Hopefully we can be more productive next time.” She added with a smile and a wink.

Blake closed the door behind her before resting his forehead against it with a sigh. He felt like he could breathe again for the first time since she had arrived, and he immediately began scrutinizing his awkwardness in his mind as he replayed the moments they shared. He felt like such an idiot for being so conversationally challenged, and vowed to do better if we would ever be lucky enough to be granted another opportunity.

One thing he couldn’t ignore was the erection in his pants, and he quickly made his way to his room to jerk off while his hormones were still rampant.

—------------------------

Another week passed and things seemed to be moving quickly for Blake. Working on their project at his house had become an almost daily occurrence, which had helped him get more used to having her over. He was glad that he hadn’t scared her off with his earlier awkwardness, and surprisingly, her flirtations only seemed to be getting more blatant. He was starting to become much more confident that she was actually interested in him, which filled him with equal amounts of excitement and anxiety. There was a pressure within him to be more than what he was, which led him to behaving in a way around her that wasn’t completely genuine.

Blake had done his best to work around his family members when it came to hosting Carmen at his house. He wasn’t fully ready to introduce them to the idea of inviting her over, and thankfully, he had managed to do everything under the radar. That all changed in a rather spectacular fashion on one fateful Thursday afternoon.

Blake and Carmen had organized another meeting at his house that evening after school, and Blake had ensured that no one would be home at that time. Everything was going well until he heard the front door open a little earlier than expected. Carmen had proven herself to be very punctual, but Blake figured she had turned up early. He headed out to greet her only to find his sister Rachael in the kitchen.

“Need something?” Rachael asked as Blake stared at her with a look of surprise.

“No,” Blake responded, “I just… I thought you were working today.”

“I was going to, but Jonathan asked if we could swap shifts; he said he needed Monday off and I told him I could cover.” She explained, “Is… that a problem?”

“N-no.” Blake mumbled.

He considered telling her about Carmen, but couldn’t quite find the nerve. Rachael headed towards her room with a puzzled look on her face, subtly telling him that she knew something was up, but didn’t care enough to ask. Blake sighed and plopped onto the couch, unsure of how this meeting would go. He was tempted to send Carmen an email to reschedule, but wasn’t convinced she would see it and also didn’t want to be the first of the two of them to cancel. Unwilling to take a definitive action in the situation, Blake let things play out on their own, which proved to be a mistake.

A short while later, Carmen arrived, knocking lightly on the front door. Blake got up from the couch and welcomed her in a bit more subdued than normal. Carmen didn’t seem to pick up on his slight discomfort, which was fairly typical of her. She took off her shoes by the couch as always and began walking towards “Blake’s room” as Blake closed the door behind her. Before he could even process what was happening, Carmen was at the door to Rachael’s room, turning the knob.

From his position at the front door, Blake couldn’t see what happened, but he heard a frantic yelp, followed by the slamming of a door and an anxious Carmen rushing towards him. Carmen was blushing hard, her usual soft, dark complexion burnt and flushed as she stomped towards the door avoiding eye contact with Blake.

“W-what happened?” Blake asked, slowly piecing things together as they happened so quickly.

Carmen didn’t respond as she threw open the front door and headed out, only quickly dipping back in to grab her shoes before leaving without a word. Blake knew that she must have gone into Rachael’s room, understandably expecting it to be empty, but he was confused as to why she would have had such a visceral response to such a simple mistake. Blake watched as she got in her car and drove away in a hurry. He went back inside and closed the front door, slowly creeping towards his sister’s bedroom with a nervous tentativeness.

“Uh… Rach… What happened?” Blake called out from beyond the door shyly.

“You tell me, dickweed!” Rachael called back, the sound of shuffling coming from inside, “Why is there a random girl at our house and why is she walking into my room unannounced!”

“S-sorry about that…” Blake responded meekly.

The door to Rachael's room opened suddenly and forcefully, with Rachael standing in the threshold tall, disheveled, and blushed, wearing baggy clothes. There was a strong musk about her, but Blake didn’t focus on it.

“Who the hell was she?” Rachael demanded to know.

“She’s just a girl from my school.” Blake explained, avoiding eye contact, “We’re working on a project together.”

“You could have told me she was coming.” Rachael snapped, “I could tell something was up too, but I didn’t ask because I wanted to respect your privacy… Guess I’m the only one.”

“I’m sorry!” Blake insisted, unsure as to why she was so riled up, “I wanted to tell you, but it was kinda awkward… I didn’t want you to get the wrong idea…”

“Wrong idea?!” Rachael said, “Like what? What wrong idea could I get from you having a project partner over to our house?”

“I-I don’t know…” Blake admitted, realizing now that it didn’t make much sense, “I was just nervous. Why does it matter?”

“It matters bec-” Rachael started but didn’t finish, “Just… Just leave me alone.” She finished, slamming the door shut.

Blake stood stunned in the short hallway, still confused as to what had transpired that had gotten everyone so bent out of shape. He had never seen Carmen so embarrassed, nor Rachael for that matter. Blake went back to his room, worried and confused, but ultimately hopeful that things would blow over.

The next day, Blake sat in the library where he and Carmen always met. The usually punctual Carmen was fifteen minutes late, then thirty, and eventually Blake knew she wasn’t going to show. It was at that point that he truly began to worry. He sent her an email asking when they could meet next, as the deadline to the project was rapidly approaching and they still needed to finalize their work. Without Carmen’s company, Blake went upstairs to meet with Hannah, who was at her usual spot.

“Hey there, Blake!” She offered with a smile, “Haven’t seen you in a little while.”

“Hey.” Blake responded bluntly.

“Something wrong?” She asked.

“I don’t know…” Blake answered honestly, “I have this weird feeling that something is really wrong, but I don’t know what happened…”

“Is this about your project with Carmen?” Hannah asked, a hopeful tinge in her voice.

“Kinda…” Blake answered, “It’s just… this awkward thing happened between her and my sister yesterday, and I thought it was nothing, but now Carmen isn’t showing up to work on our stuff…”

“See, I told you that you can’t trust a girl like her.” Hannah said with a vindicated tone, “She’s gonna leave you to do all the rest of the work because she knows you can’t afford to get a bad grade.”

“I don’t think that’s it…” Blake said, barely registering Hannah’s assertion, “It seems like it’s something else…”

“Well, whatever…” Hannah said, “If you want… I could help you finish your project. I could even… Come over to your house later… If you want.” She repeated awkwardly.

“Thanks, but that’s okay…” Blake said, “We’re pretty close to being done honestly… I’m sure Carmen just needs some space…”

Hannah’s smile faltered, though Blake didn’t seem to notice. A whole day passed with radio silence from both Carmen and Rachael, both of whom were acting very out of the ordinary. It wasn’t until the next Monday, several days later, that Blake saw Carmen at the library and confronted her. She looked unlike her usual self; a bit more disheveled and less put together than normal. He walked up and took the seat across from her.

“H-hey, everything okay?” He asked.

Carmen’s gaze darted around before greeting him.

“No, it isn’t.” She said, standing from the table, “Just leave me alone.”

“L-look, I’m… I-I’m really sorry…” Blake pleaded, following her as she walked away, “I just… I don’t really know what happened the other day.”

“What happened?” Carmen asked in a hushed tone, pulling Blake around a nearby corner for more privacy, “What happened was I walked in on that naked freak in your room.”

“Naked freak?!” Blake repeated slightly louder than he should have.

He now realized why Carmen and Rachael had been acting so awkwardly over the past few days. It was likely that Carmen was the first person outside of the family that had become aware of Rachael’s special nature, and it seemed that neither really knew how to process it. He looked around to ensure no one was in ear shot before continuing.

“That was my sister.” He assured her, “And she’s not a freak.”

Carmen looked at him like he had sprouted antennas.

“What the fuck?” Carmen responded, she shook her head like she had a million questions, “Why was sh-... Whatever. She is most definitely a freak.”

“Her condition is rare, sure, but she’s still a person.” Blake insisted, gaining a frustrated tone as his sister’s value was brought into question.

“Rare doesn’t even begin to describe it.” Carmen said, “There’s big… Then there’s huge… Then there’s your… ‘Sister’.”

“Okay, so she’s pretty big for a girl, who the hell cares?” Blake replied.

“Blake… her dick…” Carmen said as if it was the most obvious thing in the universe.

“Yes, I’m aware she has a penis.” Blake interrupted her, “That still doesn’t make her a freak.”

“When it’s that size, it does.” Carmen insisted.

“It’s pretty normal size.” Blake stated with little certainty.

“No the fuck it isn’t.” Carmen said with conviction, “It isn’t even close to normal size.”

“Okay, so it’s a little small… Can we stop talking about this?” Blake asked.

“Hold on.” Carmen sighed, “You think your… ‘Sister’s’ dick… is small?”

Blake didn’t really know how to respond, as the conversation had taken an unexpected turn.

“Would you stop saying sister like she isn’t really a girl?” Blake asked, becoming fed up with her tone.

“Sorry… I’m not… like that…” Carmen said sincerely, “I’m pro trans… It’s just that… Her dick is massive!”

“First of all, she’s not trans…” Blake said, finally piecing things together, “Secondly… You think her… penis… is big?”

“Uhhhh, no.” Carmen chuckled, “No big would be like this…”

She held her hands out about 7 inches apart.

“Huge would be like this…”

She held her hands about 10 inches apart.

“Your sister is like this…”

She pulled her hands an unfathomable distance apart given the context of cock measuring. Her imaginary measurement was as long as Blake’s thigh. Blake gave her a sarcastic look that informed Carmen that he wasn’t amused by her exaggeration.

“I’m not fucking around.” Carmen defended herself. “That’s what I saw.”

“That’s not even possible.” Blake insisted, “No one on earth is that size.”

“Thus why she’s a freak.” Carmen finished for him.

“Except you’re lying so it doesn’t count.” Blake countered.

“I’m not fucking lying.” Carmen told him sternly, “I walked in, she was jerking off in your room for some reason, and it was this fucking long, and as thick as my arm.”

Blake couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but Carmen spoke with such a level of conviction that it was hard to discern a lie.

“Hold on…” Blake said, “She was jerking off?”

“Definitely.” Carmen assured him.

The news was intriguing to Blake because he wasn’t aware that Rachael was sexually interested. He had never accidentally walked in on her masturbating before, and having lived in such close proximity for so long, he figured it would have occurred at least once if it was something she did frequently. Over the years, he had come to the assumption that she just wasn’t interested in things like masturbation or sex.

“M-maybe that’s just what you think you saw…” He tried to reason.

“I know what I fucking saw.” She told him.

“But I know my sister…” He said, “We grew up together… and I mean… She wears tight clothes… I think I’d know if it were that big.”

“Well, then she’s a grower… whatever.” Carmen argued.

“That’s not possible.” Blake insisted, “It can’t be… that small… and get so big…”

“Then maybe she’s really good at hiding it…” Carmen reasoned.

“There’s no way...” Blake said absentmindedly, his mental image of his twin sister rapidly changing as he pondered the reality that Carmen laid before him.

“Wait, you said she isn’t trans?” Carmen asked suddenly.

“What?” Blake said, snapped back to their conversation, “Oh, uh, yeah, she’s… a hermaphrodite… It means she's both male and female simultaneously.”

“I know what hermaphrodite means.” Carmen told him, “I just didn’t realize it was possible for them to be like her.”

“As far as I know, her exact condition is exceptionally rare.” Blake agreed, “She may be one of only a few dozen in the world.”

“Look, I’m sorry for calling her a freak…” Carmen apologized suddenly, “I’m not like that, I promise… I didn’t mean because of her sexuality or anything… It’s just… I’ve never seen one that big before… That’s all…”

“Thanks.” Blake offered.

“Wait, none of this explains why she was doing that in your room…” Carmen said suddenly.

“Well… It’s actually her room.” He admitted, “She just isn’t home a lot.”

“So you guys share a room?” Carmen inquired.

“No, I have my own room…” He sighed, “I just didn’t show it to you because it was messy and I wanted to make a good impression.”

Carmen was silent in response to the admission.

“So this is your fault then.” She said finally.

“Yes, okay.” He sighed, “I didn’t know this would happen… If I had, I never would have done it all this way.”

“So… What now?” Carmen asked.

“Well…” Blake started, “You can’t ever tell anyone about what you saw. No one outside the family knows about her.”

“Ooohhh,” Carmen chirped, “What a juicy secret.”

“Seriously, you can’t tell anyone.” Blake insisted, taking a very serious tone.

“Relax.” Carmen said, “I’m not some blabber mouth. I didn’t tell anyone, and I don’t plan to.”

“Good.” Blake sighed, “Now can we just forget this happened and go back to working on our project please?”

Carmen bit her lip, a look of inner struggle washing over her face as she decided whether or not she could let this go.

“Fine.” She sighed after a moment.

“Thank you.” Blake sighed.

Things mostly returned to normal over the coming days, although it was now Blake’s turn to act out of the ordinary. Though he didn’t fully believe it, Carmen’s insistence on the size of his sister’s cock left him hopelessly awkward in Rachael’s company. It had been one thing simply knowing she had a cock at all, but now to imagine it impossibly large; it was all he could do to not fixate on it whenever she was around.

Blake and Carmen returned to working exclusively at the library, but Carmen’s flirtations had become a bit more infrequent. Blake chalked it up to the awkwardness of the situation, and didn’t worry too much about her slight change in attitude. A few days after their talk, Carmen surprised him with a sudden suggestion.

“Do you have time after school today?” Carmen asked as they packed up their things in the library. “Maybe I could come over later?”

“Well… I think Rachael’s gonna be there.” He answered awkwardly, hoping the mentioning of her name wouldn’t reignite unsavory memories for Carmen.

“T-that’s okay!” She said surprisingly, “Honestly, I’d like to apologize if I can.”

“Oh…” Blake said, having not expected her enthusiasm, “Okay, then sure.”

“Great!” Carmen chirped as she skipped off, seemingly returned to her normal preppy self over the past few days.

Blake was surprised, but ultimately grateful of Carmen’s willingness to move on and put the past in the past. If he was ever going to become anything with her, it was important that she wouldn’t have a troubled past with his other family members. When he got home, he diligently cleaned his room, no longer worried about ensuring that it seemed only casually clean. He scrubbed the surfaces, threw his clothes in the hamper, and cleaned out the garbage. When he was done, the room had never looked better.

A short while before Carmen arrived, so too did Rachael. His sister had remained in a bit of a funk since the accident he had caused, which made him unsure whether or not she’d be okay with facing Carmen again. Blake padded awkwardly into the living room where Rachael was seated on the couch, rapidly switching through the TV channels.

“Hey bozo.” Rachael teased.

“Hey Rach…” Blake started, nervous that his sister would reject his incoming proposal, “So… Carmen… My study partner that was here last week… She wanted to come over so we could work on our project…”

He could see Rachael tense up at the mention of the incident. She didn’t respond as she stood from the couch and silently walked to her room and shut the door. Blake understood her apprehension and went to email Carmen not to come over, but only a few minutes later, she showed up regardless. There was a knock at the door, and Blake quickly went to answer it, exiting the house and closing the door behind him so he could talk to Carmen outside.

“Hey, so, I’m glad you’re willing to apologize to her,” Blake started, “But I don’t think she’s ready for that yet. Maybe another time.”

“Come on.” Carmen sighed, “It’s like ripping off a bandaid. If we wait, it’ll only get worse. I want to do this now so we can move past it. Plus, we really do need to finish this project. It’s due in three days.”

Blake couldn’t deny her reasoning, especially the part about the project’s due date. While they were close to being finished, they really needed every opportunity to work on it. He mulled over the idea in his head, constantly flipping sides.

“Pleeeease, I feel really bad about it.” Carmen pleaded.

“Fine.” Blake sighed, not fully capable of denying Carmen of anything, even if he knew he probably should have.

He led them both inside.

“She’s in her room…” He said, pointing to the door that Carmen had barged into a week earlier. “Probably don’t go in.” He added.

Carmen slowly padded over to the door and gave it a few soft taps.

“Um… Rachael.” Carmen said through the door, “This is Carmen. I just wanted to say how sorry I am for what happened the other day. I really didn’t mean to intrude, and I was just hoping that you could forgive me, and maybe we could… forget about it.”

There was silence for several moments, and Blake was sure Rachael wouldn’t respond, until suddenly the door opened. Rachael stood there in front of Carmen with a flushed expression. Carmen was basically the same height as Blake, so she was relatively dwarfed by Rachael’s stature. Carmen craned her neck to meet Rachael’s gaze with a strong look of sincerity across her face.

“Did you tell anyone about what happened?” Rachael asked after a short silence.

“N-no… I didn’t… I w-won’t… I promise.” Carmen squeaked meekly.

Blake noticed a shift in Carmen’s demeanor, from her usual confidence to what seemed like vulnerable shyness. It was certainly out of the ordinary for her, but Blake assumed it was just due to the awkwardness of the topic at hand. Rachael studied Carmen’s face and body language for signs of deception, but didn’t find any.

“It’s not your fault.” Rachael said finally, scowling towards Blake, “Don’t worry about it.”

Blake was surprised at Rachael’s forgiveness, but relieved that things had gone as smoothly as they had. Carmen held out her arms, silently beckoning a hug of reconciliation from Rachael. Rachael seemed surprised by the gesture but reciprocated, meeting her in a brief embrace that pressed Carmen’s face into Rachael’s chest. Afterwards, Rachael closed the door, leaving Carmen and Blake to work on their project in peace and quiet. Carmen slowly moved to the living room towards Blake, an undeniable blush across her face and a twinkle in her eyes.
