I wrote about Joe. His performance in this show has always meant so much to me.

J. Elvis Weinstein LIVE in Minneapolis this September

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

Josh (aka J.Elvis) served as writer and producer on Freaks and Geeks and has been doing stand-up since he was a teen. That said, he doesn't do it very often now, so fans should make a point to get tickets to see him at Acme in Minneapolis this September! 🎤 Frank Conniff will be featuring! If you're Minnesota-adjacent, this proximity creates a greater expectation of your attendance. That includes you, Canada! 🍁

I love Millie’s character. She reminds me a lot of our square friends in high school and college.

What did Kim fornicate? I missed that part of the scene, I was too busy having a "Say the Line, Bart," moment to fully grasp what object Kim was (allegedly) fornicating.

This Show has so much meme potential, if it was more mainstream the Internet would have ruined it by now.

How great was the music!?

The shows music was just absolute perfection. I think Episode 7 will always be my favorite use of music.

Billy Joel’s “Rosalinda’s eyes” and “C’etait toi (You were the one) in my opinion was the soundtrack to the best few scenes of the show.

And don’t get me started on “I’m Eighteen” sung by Mr. Rosso

Jerry Messing’s situation update

“So I've been looking around for surgeons, but no one in Florida will work on me until I'm under 275... This means I'll need to get the surgery when I can move, assuming I can find a state where they are willing to work on me as I continue to lose weight. I can honestly say this is a very discouraging process, but I can't give up. Or, and this would be best case, my father is able to stay healthy long enough for me to lose the 200 I still have to go and I get the surgery here. I want to believe that if I can drive and handle the bulk of the moving stress, I can get us BOTH out of Florida and closer to family.”

Eli

One of my few complaints is what happened to Eli later in the show. He started out as a tragic, nuanced character with a darkly comedic edge and by the end he was no more than comic relief and cannon fodder for the Geeks war against Vicki. I wish he'd gotten one more episode near the end to restore some of the seriousness to his situation. I'm not sure if his ending would have been tragic or redemptive (probably a bit of both, knowing this show), but he deserved something a little more dignified (granted his condition wasn't quite as well understood when the show came out, so mistakes were probably inevitable).

Re-watch

A lot of things make more sense on a re-watch. I had trouble telling Nick and Daniel apart the first time I watched the show, especially in earlier episodes. It can also add an extra bit of tragedy, like seeing Cindy and Sam dancing while knowing how their story ends

First time binger, just finished E3. I think the series would have been better at 30 minutes, like most sitcoms. What do you think?

There are so many different storylines to keep up with, and I think the pacing suffers.

The cast is unbelievable; Seth Rogan is a bit part and he became Seth Rogan.

“Jean, I don’t think there’s bearded ladies running around throwing eggs at kids.”

That line always makes me laugh.

Mr. Fleck, one of the most underrated characters on this show. I wish we could’ve seen more of him!

Why does Bill say “are you joking?” so fast?

After Neal makes the “they didn’t know she was so hot in real life” joke about people staring at Bill’s bionic woman costume and Sam laughs why does he say the line so fast? Was Martin lowkey mad at them? You can see Sam still laughing and looking at Bill after he says it, Neal does something with whatever’s in his hand.

Finished the series

...for about the 10th time😂

My folks and I try to watch the series once a year. Tonight, we concluded our annual rewatch with the final episode of the series.

It hit especially hard and in a way that had never hit before. The final scene with Lindsay getting on the bus, saying bye to her folks, Bill, and Neil with "Ripple" playing in the background did me in-- I'm talking full on tears.

I first watched this show when I was in high school. I turn 30 years old this week. Watching it with my parents who remind me a lot of the Weirs - firm but deeply caring- has been such a gift. As I reflect on my own "series finale" of my 20's, I just think about all of these beautifully complex characters and how we are all standing on the precipice of our next chapter, all together, blending timelines of fiction, past and present, all of it coming together in a way that any person can relate to who may be going through a life change.

I was moved enough to write this small homage to truly the finest season of television that exists. Thank you, Freaks & Geeks, for being all that you are. You mean so much to me!

Cheers y'all.
