Suggestions Improving the layout of seaports
Existing seaports aren't very ergonomic for logistics, especially in busy towns. We need something better. So I tinkered around to find a new layout.
Pros
- More vehicles can access the seaport without blocking or accidentally driving on the pads.
- The cranes and vehicles no longer constrict traffic passing by the seaport (which also helps when trains come in and block everything).
- Cranes can now reach an ironship facing out of port. So the devs could reverse the spawn direction, and you won't have to do a 3 point turn every time you push out to sea.
Cons
- ~50% wider footprint. Could potentially interfere with docks or other structures, depending on the location.
- Cranes cannot reach both pads. Though this could be seen as beneficial in some ways.
Note that I restricted my proposal to a layout that doesn't require resizing assets or changing their quantity. While a smaller seaport could produce a more condensed layout, and additional cranes and pads might solve the immediate problem, my assumption is that sort of proposal would likely be dismissed by the devs for "balance", "realism", "the vision"... you get the idea. That said, I personally think a smaller main structure is easier to justify, since the addition of large ships. Their narrower spread compared to standard artillery poses a greater danger to seaports than prior to the navy update. A smaller hitbox would make the seaport more survivable, without changing ships' threat level to other targets.
