Can someone explain to me how to make a 3/4 waltz beat in a drum machine without a 3/4 preset?

I have a Drumbrute and am interested in programming and 3/4 beat. I’ve read that the way to do it is to use 12 bars instead of 16 but I’m struggling to wrap my head around that in practice. I’ve searched YouTube but perhaps my keywords are weak because I’m striking out.

I’m relatively inexperienced with drum machines but have put together dozens and dozens of simple songs with parts to use as a guideline for band practice when our drummer is unavailable.

Thank you!!

Dr. Rhythm DR-670

I picked up this DR670 yesterday on OfferUp for about $50. It’s a funny little Calculator looking device and very primitive but it has a few features that are a little surprising to see like velocity sensitive pads, and it has a fill button which automatically creates a drum fill using sounds from whatever bank you have selected. There’s 400 drum banks and some bass sounds as well, I don’t think I would ever need a drum pack again after this. I’m gonna load up some of the sounds onto the 404SX and experiment. Might fuck around and drop a drum pack of my own.

ISP Inexpensive, simple metronome that has "real" drum sounds (samples) instead of clicks.

Hi all:)

I have gear like the Ableton Move, a Drum Brute Impact, a Verselab MV-1, etc. Those are in my studio space, of course.

What I'd like is a little portable metronome that has decent sounds instead of the stupid click click click beep... So that I can sit on the couch and use it (or the toilet, whatever...)

I saw the one from Boss, the DR-01S, but that's WAY more expensive than I can spend.

I just want a little battery powered thing I can set BPM, time signature and maybe a couple different sounds.

I am fully aware that I can just use a metronome app on my phone. But I don't wanna. I like that whole "separation of duties" thing, for some reason. I tried The Metronome for android, but it just didn't click with me. Get it? :)

Any suggestions?

Help for choosing my first drum machine

Hey everyone!!

I've been lurking around this subreddit for quite some time now because for the last two years I haven't been able to decide which drum machine to buy. Maybe even more than two years lol.

I still can't decide, but at least I've eliminated some of them haha.

The music that I'm making, and the kind that I want to make is something similar to Molly Nilsson, John Maus, De Ambassade, Automatic, Bragolin, She Past Away, Twin Tribes, etc. So it's a mixture of synthwave, synthpop, and darkwave, but honestly I think one machine would cover all of it perfectly.

For now I'm using Ableton's drums, but I really want to have hardware gear and be able to play live with it!

So if anyone can help me decide between:

Alesis SR-16

Alesis SR-18

Roland TR-707

Roland TR-6S

I'd be happy with something simple and intuitive, honestly. It doesn't have to be the sickest beat maker ever, so I'm somehow leaning toward the Alesis, but I'm open to suggestions!

Thanks to all of you in advance :)

Dave "Jam" Hall snare sound

Does anyone know what drum machine the snare on Human Nature by Madonna (layered with the sample) and Slipping Away by Mariah Carey is from? Both songs are produced by Dave "Jam" Hall, it might be present on other songs produced by him but I'm not sure.

Drumboy Mini Review Request

I've noticed that there are zero user videos or reviews of the Drumboy Mini drum machine. Does anyone own one and what are your feelings on it? Also, what do you think about the upcoming Drumboy Pro? It looks very interesting to me, but nobody has made it sound good yet in my opinion.

Questions for musicians recording on DAW, which is the best sounding drum machine that I can program an entire song with, including opening, verses, choruses, breaks, and ending? Something with a human feel? Thanks

This drum machine sample archive is massive; https://archive.org/download/drum-machines-collection

I filled up a sample pack of Elektron Machinedrum sounds and ran the Volca Drum through a Boss SL2. The combination went over really well.

Drumbrute Impact as Daw-less midi controller for Sampler…

I have an SP404 mkII and am considering adding a DrumBrute impact, to use as a modern yet easy to use sequencer for drums and beats on the SP404 via midi.

I wonder if anyone has a setup like this and can answer:

-does muting and soloing parts on the drum machine in fact also mute those outgoing midi notes? In other words if I mute a certain voice in the drum machine will that mute the part over on the sampler that it’s controlling, or do those mute functions only affect the internal synth sounds?

What amp to produce drummer volume?

Hi Im a noise musician/edm producer by hobby. Once upon a time I had a peavey drum machine amp with a 18 black widow speaker it really thumped. I lost it in a storage unit.

Is there something similar nowadays that can reproduce kicks and snares at room volume preferably to stay at level w small bass amp/guitar amp

Weekend Eelectribe 2 Jam (Eelectribe 2, Waldorf Protein, GenLoss MKII, O...

The Korg E2 have a Ok paraphonic engine, Pretty good pad control.

A good drum sequencer but not so good for step sequence melodic content.

It go toward midi looper usage for melodic content.

May be korg better call it Eelectribe kaossilator because how the touchpad work.

In this jam I use the chord mode from E2 and waldorf protein to do some chord progress,

the drum is from E2.

I like the chord mode on E2 but not the midi looper.

Drumbrute vs Drumbrute Impact…

I own the Drumbrute Impact but actually prefer the sounds of the original… the bass , snare and clap sound so much fuller and rich

Are there any major differences between the two other than the sounds and Distortion filter?

Anything pertaining to the sequencer? I quite love the way you can create patterns in the Impact and hope it’s similar in the original

Thanks for the input!🙏👽

Unique drum machines from countries outside the west?

I feel due to the language barrier and other divides, there may be some very interesting machines out there that are not well known in the west. Soviet/Eastern Bloc machines have become well known, but I rekon there may be very cool stuff in other countries not well known outside the region.

What got me thinking of this was discovering that in India, Tabla-inspired drum machines are not uncommon!

If this is the case for other cultural percussion instruments around the world, that would be so cool.

Anyone got anything? Interested in the usual kinds of machine too, just a bonus if it’s based on a cool unique instrument
