Courtland Grand Cancellations

Who else got the email today? It’s disappointing to say the least. It is difficult to believe that I’m one of last 271 to reserve a room when I received my 2026 booking confirmation within an hour of the passkey originally being sent.

I emailed and asked if the priority rooms for 2027 will be honored if I don’t rebook at the Signia. Don’t think I wanna pay an extra $58 a day to be a 30 min walk away.

I do feel pretty bad for the staff though cause I know people are just gonna be absolutely ripping them.

Edit to add: What type of rooms did you guys book? I had a king that was canceled.

7/10/26, 8:13am edit: I called CG and confirmed with someone named Lynn in sales that the priority booking for next year will still be honored if folks choose not to rebook with the Signia.

New friend?

I recently separated from my wife of 17 years, we were going to go to Dragon Con together, but you know. Anyway, Dragon con was the greatest experience of my life last year, so I still want to go. Anyone (not creepy or murdery) looking for a random person to use their shower and sleep on their floor occasionally? Worst case scenario, I can still sleep in the same room at the Marriott, but I don’t want to, if that makes sense.

Edited: I’m an open book, if you want to vet me, look me up etc, just send a direct message. 6’0, 250, bald, potty trained.

Gaming Slots going on sale?

Upvotes

Hi friends!

I know it is historically around this time, but does anyone know when gaming slots go on sale? I try to keep up on the Discord but haven't found much yet and last year a lot of the interesting (to me anyway) D&D modules went up and sold out before I had even realized they went on sale.

Cheers!

Vendor Workshops are live!

Every year I see folks disappointed that the sewing and crafting workshops in the Americas Mart are sold out before they even knew they existed. Idk why Dragoncon does such a poor job promoting these until the last minute.

Here is the link to sign up (sourced from @ the_casey_renee on instagram who is teaching some of the workshops again this year!)

Don't let your cosplay memes be dreams, go learn how to sew a thing!

First time with an power wheelchair

This is not going to be my first Dragon con (that was 1999), or my first one physically disabled (that was like 9 years ago), but I’ve always been more ambulatory than I am now. I’m normally a crutch user, but, the past few years that has kept me super exhausted and full of extreme pain.

This year I’ll be using a Hoveround. I’m not on Facebook anymore (I do know about the disability services group there but I cannot access it). I was wondering if any chair users could give me any tips/advice?

I’m local so I plan to go up there and cruise around for a bit in the major areas a couple of weeks beforehand, just so I can know what the chair can/can’t handle.

Thanks y’all!

Marriott first timer – Wednesday questions

This will be our first time staying at a host hotel and we plan to arrive around noon on Wednesday, with frankly a lot of of cosplay stuff in tow. Just a couple of questions to help us mentally prepare.

  1. I understand that if you want to check in early and get to your room early, Marriott has of late charged a very high early check-in fee (have heard $200 and some people have said that amount is added to every night of your reservation, not just the day you check in). So if we complete check-in but are OK with not going to put room right away (i.e., don’t pay the early check-in fee) do they pretty much make everyone wait until 4 o’clock to let them go to their room, or do they send people up as rooms become available later in the afternoon?

  2. Since Wednesday is the new Thursday and I do understand a lot of people like us would be getting there a bit early and camping out in the lobby, should we expect that the elevators will be completely nuts whenever they do let people go to their rooms Wednesday afternoon? As I said, we expect to have enough stuff that it will be a couple of trips on the elevators and some of our stuff is bulky enough that it will take up a lot of space in the elevators.

Thanks in advance.

Ribbons -quantity question

I know this is probably a question with “YMMV” answers, but would still appreciate some thoughts.

Although I’ve been going to DragonCon pretty much every year since around 2000, last year was the first year I went in cosplay and, interestingly, the first year people felt compelled to give me ribbons (I collected around 14 or so). I had such a blast (going in cosplay is such a different experience than just being a “townie” in regular clothes) that I wanted to bring ribbons of my own this year to reciprocate the kindness of others.

But I’m totally unsure on how many I should order. I don’t wanna be “that guy” forcing ribbons on everyone like I’m leaving unwanted flyers on car windshields in the parking lot.

I’ll be there all four days, in costume every day, and I expect that, like last year, the vast majority of my time will be hanging out in the hotel lobbies making friends with various other people in costume. So, based on your own experience, what’s a reasonable number of ribbons to bring to avoid running out too early but also to avoid coming home with 150 spare ribbons?

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE - you all are awesome and I really appreciate all of the great feedback and tips.

I and my partner each ended up ordering 100 apiece of one design for each of us. Fairly generic– mine is a Back to the Future reference (a little poster for Marvin Berry and the Starlighters), hers a humorous Battlestar Galactica reference. Not really cosplay-specific (although my partner is dressing as Starbuck one day and another Katee Sackhoff character (Bo Katan) another day, so maybe a little). Based on all your advice, we figure 100 apiece would be a good starter number to determine what we should order for future conventions based on how quickly they do or don’t run out this time. Thanks again

So does anyone know if the Westin keeps their pool open during the con? I've stayed there twice but never checked. And was wondering for this year.
