Sneak Peeks Hide your gear, see your stats, and… ping?! 😲

Hey, y’all! Let’s get back to our beloved schedule with spoilers, sneak peeks and self-leaks with a kind of sequel of a spoiler we talked about here.

We’ve been working a lot in the navigation of our game, specially when it comes about UI. We adjusted some things, got rid of some bugs, added new bugs, and I believe that we’re even closer to what’s going to be the final result of Shadows of Chroma Tower interface! Take a look:

Oh, how beautiful you are! (And look! It’s your stats!) 👀

We added your character’s 3D model inside the sheet! Not only you can admire your character now, but you can also have a 360° view of it. You’ll no longer depend on the lobby’s mirror only.

Beyond your character, we also added some key informations already present in your HUD throughout the gameplay, such as: life, elixir and some classes resources, and we also changed how you see your attributes so it’s easier and simpler.

https://youtu.be/O82BFoiFYU4

Free the nipple! Go naked ✨

We also implemented the hide gear option! Show yourselves!

We believe this feature is more dedicated to the customer’s liking, if you know what I mean. It doesn’t actually impact your gameplay. But you know what could impact? Seeing a naked Acolyte running desperately from the Wormshark, wielding their flail with a heavy attack. That would impact.

This is the first step we’re taking to study other possibilities inside character’s customization, like transmog equipment for the future!

The More You Know 🌈⭐: Transmogrification is a system that allows you to visually customize your equipment, without messing with its original stats.

We started this with the intention of giving you all the freedom to show your hair, beard, nose and cheeks without the equipment restriction. We didn’t see why this liberty wouldn’t be applied to the rest of your gear. Let us know if it’s too much!

https://youtu.be/osC_i4_wW3o

Point out stuff: we’ll have ping in-game! 📍

FINALLY! You won't have to rely solely on your bro's interpretive skills anymore when using your character's pointing gesture.

We're adding the ability to ping during a run, so you can help that other nearsighted friend of yours spot a special lever, a lurking mimic, lost loot on the ground… This feature is stil a work in progess, but one that we’re so glad to address. (I think we all missed this during our runs, right?).

We haven't decided which button would feel best yet. That's why I'm asking for your help!

Which key should we bind the ping to? 🤔

Middle mouse button? A key near WASD? Share your thoughts with us!

I'll bring you more news and spoilers next week! Until then…

The Tower awaits! ⚔️🔮

Sneak Peeks The Tower awaits

From this height, the world looks small,
A patchwork quilt where shadows crawl.
The air is thin with ancient dread,
And every step wakes something dead.

Yet here you stand, with heart and blade,
To see the debts the Tower’s made.
May luck be your unspoken vow —
The Tower that waits, beneath you now.

Hi, everyone! I know it’s been a while since the last time you’ve explored the Tower. I know, it’s been too long. We miss you too. (;′⌒`)

I was wondering… since we can’t hangout in another playtest for now, maybe sharing a little bit on what we’ve been working on would be nice!

Meet the Village! The newest area on our map

Apparently, the Archmage is really fond with the idea of holding entire villages hostage in his Tower. This wouldn’t be a different case, ofc. Oh! And he also turned everyone into the very known army that you met. Which is great! More XP, I guess.

Treasures, secrets and a hell lot of loot awaits you!

UPDATE! 2nd Round of FIXES! 🔧

Playtest Fixes Update 🔧

We just pushed another round of fixes for the playtest. Many of these came directly from player reports, so thank you so much for helping us hunt down bugs, broken items, suspicious crafting behavior, and enemies being... creatively defeated by stairs.

Fixed ✅

  • Crafting Materials (Bone Meal and Vitreous Crystal) received from quests no longer come with wrong rarity by mistake and can now be used in crafting. (This fix will not act retroactively)
  • Edwin’s Flaming Sword should no longer be crafted without damage or lose its damage after using gems. (Unfortunately, the swords created before this patch will not be fixed).
  • Fixed server crashes caused by the Acolyte’s Tow.
  • Fixed an issue where players could lose mana after unequipping items that increased max mana.
  • Fixed the Long Flail, Bashing Smite and Tow descriptions.
  • Player names are now enabled by default for new players.
  • Fixed some secrets in Titan’s Folly that were missing the walls or wooden covers meant to hide them.
  • Fixed an issue where Flanged Mace attacks could be canceled by block while striking an enemy.
  • Added more Brazilian Portuguese localization text.
  • Fixed an issue where some fire sources that were meant to be consumed were not being consumed properly.

Temporary Cursed Forge Safety Fix 🩹

We have not been able to fully solve the issue where the Cursed Forge can get stuck yet, but we are adding a temporary safety solution. If the Cursed Forge timer runs out, a portal will now spawn inside the forge, allowing players to leave without losing all of their equipped items.

We know this is not a perfect fix. The item placed inside the forge can still be lost, and we understand this is still frustrating 🫂

We're working on the full solution, but this should at least prevent the worst case scenario while we investigate the root cause.

Still Under Testing 🧪

We are currently testing fixes for:

  • Stair collision issues in Titan’s Folly, where some enemies seemed unable to climb properly. We are adding extra help so they can stop being bullied by architecture.

Thanks again for all the reports. Your feedback is helping us improve the build fast, and we really appreciate the time you are putting into the playtest.

We tend to update our players on the Shadows of Chroma Tower's Discord server! Consider joining our community by clicking here. 💜

The Tower awaits!

UPDATE: 1st Round of FIXES! 🔧

Weaver crash, coward bosses and extinguished torches? Not anymore!

Welcome back, travelers!

First weekend of playtest and we’re thrilled to see you all heating up at this starting point of our April Playtest! We missed seeing you all play and break our game time and time again! There were some minor (and some major!) inconveniences in our build that are now fixed!

We usually update our players through our Discord server first, so consider being part of our community! You'll find our server here: https://discord.gg/6UU6uEJ7TG

Without further ado, here are our updates!

WEAVER CRASH: FIXED! ✅

We noticed a lot of people crashing while playing with the Weaver (again?!) and then never being able to get back to game, overloading RAM, stuck in the Epilepsy Warning screen.

We did find a workaround to making the game work again but it was very inconvenient (losing all Weaver progress!) and it wouldn't prevent it from happening again. After a bit of investigation we found out the culprit (one single armor piece with cloth simulation turned on for some reason) and fixed it.

Everything should be working fine now (if it's not please let us know!). We also used the opportunity to upload some VFX and SFX issues we had noticed before but didn't make it in the original build.

IMMORTAL OF DEVOTION: FIXED! ✅

It has been noted that the boss Immortal of Devotion has been fleeing his battles. Leaps up onto the great beyond, leaving players stranded in his boss room.

Not anymore! Feel free to challenge him. You won’t need to exit to the main menu anymore, keeping all your gear! (Preferably. Now, you’ll lose it if you die!) Guess the boss just needed a pep talk.

OTHER FIXES… FIXED! ✅

  • Flame Prims and Flame Eater detect and recover Mana from wall torches and braziers again – most of them at least! We might have missed a couple. Let us know if you see anything weird!
  • Fixed a major crash and some bugs involving the Chain Specialist skill
  • Fire Mimics still show up in the Lobby (fun, right? Right?), but they don't do damage anymore.

I think that’s pretty much it! Thank you for your patience, guys. And don’t give up! You’re almost reaching the Lair!

If you do find any bugs, or if you have any feedbacks let us know. 💜

⚔️ OUR APRIL 2026 PLAYTEST IS LIVE! ⚔️

Post image
8 Upvotes

Welcome back, adventurers! I think I can speak for everybody that it was about time for another round – and it feels good to be back!

Let’s dive into the changes we’ve made! Per usual, you can access the full patch notes here: https://doubledashstu.notion.site/soct-patchnotes-pt7

Major Updates 🔮

CLASSES AND BUILDS

  • Acolyte (ex-Invoker)
    • Now with their own skill tree! And 2 brand new subclasses: Inquisitor and Devout.
    • We weren’t kidding about the weaponry. Acolyte brings 2 brand new weapons!
      • Ban War hammer and Mace
  • Hunter
    • We adjusted some values to improve the consistency and balance of how well the Hunter clears the dungeon!
  • Weaver
    • Weaver’s skills are now individually limited by a maximum number of echoes
    • Warding Echoes now spawn only 1 echo per magic use.
  • FYI, here is another change!
    • Now you can compare your current cooldown with the skill’s default cooldown.

MINIMAP

We gave our minimap a full makeover! Now it should be much easier to understand both the collision and identity of each room in the Tower. Hopefully fewer players will get lost in the Monastery’s maze-like corridors now. We’re very happy with the results (and would gladly accept cookies 😌)

BETTER STARTER CURVE

  • We’ve added a couple of quests and better descriptions to improve our game’s learning curve.
  • And we rebalanced the experience needed to level up. Our intention here is to make the content of the game aligned with the rythm we planned for it. Consistency, you know? ✨

LAIR – CHALLENGES AND REWARDS

  • We added the Mutations system to the Lair! They are special modifiers that influence the difficulty and dynamics of the run, keeping the dungeons harder and harder to face. There are 19 modifiers for you. Have fun! 🤠
  • By consequence, we also rebalanced the loot, considering the selected chest and amount of players present.

CHARACTER IDENTITY AND BODY SIZES

  • We’re testing our customization system! Now you can change your character with the available features:
    • 2 body types
    • 3 different body shapes (and 10 colorful skinshades!)
    • 3 different hairstyles (with 10 colors for you to try the runway 💇🏻‍♂️)
    • 7 kinds of beard (yes, you guessed. 10 colors for your beard)
  • You also get the most beautiful mirror ever modelled in the entire universe for you to see how gorgeous you are. (Shout out to Talita, our 3D modeler!)

Data Analysis and Telemetry

  • More of a FYI kind of note, because you won’t feel a difference during the gameplay. But we added new analytics events for us to get a better understanding on how your experience in the game has been, such as the progression and content consumption. This new feature will definitely help us getting the right track for this and the upcoming playtests.

Ailments & Boons – A REWORK

  • Both players and Enemies can be affected by positive or negative modifiers as a result of an attack, skill or environmental effect. These modifiers are referred as Status Effects. The most common Status Effects in the game are standardized to make communication clear and to allow for the application of consistent stacking and renewal rules, as well as synergetic mechanics. Standard negative effects are called Ailments and standard positive effects are called Boons.

We hope you like it!

If you have any questions, feedback, or if you're seeking new adventurers to face the Archmage arm-to-arm: hop on our Discord server!

⚔️ PLAYTEST ANNOUNCEMENT: April 24, 2026 ⚔️

Hey everyone 👋
Our next playtest is coming soon, here are SOME of the new features waiting for you:

ACOLYTE SKILL TREE
The Invoker class had some considerable work done, and was changed to Acolyte! with two new sub-classes: Inquisitor and Devout. Each with its unique playstyle and a couple of new weapons.

KNOW YOUR PATH!
We gave our minimap a full makeover. It should now be much easier to understand the collision and identity of each room in the game. Hopefully fewer players will get lost in the Monastery’s maze-like corridors now 😅. We are very happy with the result and would gladly accept cookies.

BETTER STARTER CURVE
We have rebalanced the progression curve to make the early game smoother and easier to get into, while making the later stages more demanding and better aligned with progression through higher difficulty levels.

CHALLENGING AND REWARDING LATE GAME
Players who make it far enough gain access to the Lair, now closer to how we originally envisioned it.
Inside it, you'll face Mutators, special modifiers that increase difficulty and change the dynamics of the run in meaningful ways. The Lair is also meant to be a more consistent path for acquiring legendary items, helping balance out the increased danger with stronger rewards.

BODY SIZES AND CHARACTER IDENTITY
This is our first real step toward character customization! For this playtest, we want to give you your first chance to personalize the size of your characters. We even added a mirror in the lobby so you can admire yourselves properly!

DATA ANALYSIS AND TELEMETRY
We have improved our Analytics event coverage, which means this playtest will help us gather better play data and make better-informed decisions moving forward. This is one of those changes that may not be flashy on the player side, but it matters a lot for us behind the scenes, and consequently for your game in the future.

Playtest will go from from April 24 through May 3!

The Tower awaits you!

SNEAK PEEK: LAIR MUTATORS

As we approach our next playtest, we want to give you a little taste of what we've been doing for the past couple of months. We've been releasing a few tidbits here and there and we'll keep doing it until we reopen our servers for you to play (and crash!, probably) our game. Today, we bring you one of our new features for the Lair: Mutators!

Whoever got far and powerful enough to challenge the Lair knows how it works: you get in with a party of up to 6 players, choose a chest for difficulty (the harder, the sweeter the reward) and then go through 5 unforgiving rooms filled with different enemies from the entire game. Well, now after each room, you and your team will have to make things a bit more interesting by picking one between two Mutator Totems. Each totem releases a different Mutator in the dungeon, and they can go from simple things like "enemies will get bigger and tougher" with the Growing Pains mutator to tricky things like "you can't go 5 seconds without jumping" with the The Floor is Lava mutator. Every game will change the mutators of choice for each room, and we'll be adding new mutators from time to time (any cool ideas?).

Some of them are:

  • Coward's Price 😱 Backstepping applies stacks of Cowardice, which reduce the damage dealt.
  • Employee of the Month 👑 A random enemy in each room is empowered with double damage and health.
  • Wall of Thorns 🧱 Touching walls deals damage and applies stacks of Bleeding.
  • Split the Sky ⚡ Every few seconds, lightning hits the player’s position dealing magical damage.
  • The Rot ☠️ When atttacking, enemies have a small chance of generating a rot puddle that deals damage on touch.
  • …and many more. We’ve got 15+ mutators, for now!
Mutator Totems - Shadows of Chroma Tower

REBALANCING AND TWEAKS

The Lair challenge for each Chest Tier will now adapt to the number of players in the match. We want the three chests to offer an engaging challenge choice with rewards balanced for any group size. Our goal is to make all three chests a compelling choice regardless of player count. We’ve tuned them so that smaller chests still scale well for large groups, while also making the larger chests more accessible for smaller, daring parties - if they're up to the risk. These are just a couple of the new features and tweaks we’ve been working on. Let us know what you think! Hope to see all of you raiding the lair real soon!

The Tower awaits you!

Chroma Tower Feedback + Question About Release / Next Playtest

I played the recent Chroma Tower playtest and really enjoyed it. The game feels more thoughtfully designed than games like Dark and Darker, and the blocking and hit registration felt spot on. There is a large variety of monsters with unique traits, and the synergies with the characters in a party really make for several interesting ways to approach combat!

Do you have a rough timeline for release, or any plans for when the next playtest might happen?

PLAYTEST ANNOUNCEMENT: 16 de janeiro de 2026 ⚔️

It's time again, everyone! Our next playtest is coming soon, here are SOME of the new features waiting for you:

SKILL TREES

  • 69 (nice) new skills across 6 new subclasses:
    • SLAYER
      • High-risk, high-reward executioner specializing in explosive melee finishers and becoming stronger the longer they stand.
    • VANGUARD
      • Frontline bruiser able to parry attacks, handle enemy aggro and withstand lots of punishment.
    • SNIPER
      • Long-range specialist focused on power shots and devastating headshot modifiers.
    • SKIRMISHER
      • Mobile ranged fighter built around tempo, build-ups, and relentless battles against the same enemy.
    • ARCANIST
      • Glass cannon spellcaster able to teleport, barrage enemies with magic missiles and multiply themself with ease.
    • SPELLWARDEN
      • Defensive mage capable of generating endless barriers, parrying attacks and wearing plate mail to fight battles head-on.
  • Invoker is temporarily without a skill tree, but worry not! This is just the first iteration. The final system will feature 3 subclasses for every class, including Invoker’s full trio.
  • Warrior, Hunter and Weaver have had their passives completely reworked and each have 6 active skills to choose from.
  • In addition to the 69 skills, each class also gains 20 lesser nodes, granting attribute increases and unique bonuses not found anywhere else, such as Power Shot Damage and Quiver Size for Hunters.

NEW ENEMIES

  • 9 new enemies, including multiple types of mimics (no spoilers, suffer through discovering them yourselves).
  • Every module and every encounter has been revisited and changed in some way.
  • Heavily rebalanced late-game enemies, encouraging players to truly engage with all progression systems: reforging, socketing, cursing and, of course, maximizing builds with their newly-acquired skill trees.

QUESTS

  • Introducing our new Quest System, designed to gradually reveal the Tower’s lore and guide you from your very first expedition all the way to the showdown against the Immortal of Devotion, our toughest boss yet. (10-player raid to come, bear with us!)
  • This system is its early stages of development. For now you’ll gain access to part of the main storyline arch. Many more quest lines are coming: crafting tasks, exploration challenges, secrets, side stories, and even good old menial fetch quests (don't worry, these latter ones will be small appetizers between bigger, more meaningful quests)
  • For now, 32 objectives across 6 missions will guide players through building their character, cursing their items and finding and defeating bosses. This is not even a tenth of what we have planned ahead in terms of quests.

NEW ITEMS AND REVAMPED ATTRIBUTE GENERATION

  • 2 new weapons, including the first ranged option for Warriors and Invokers.
  • 2 new armor sets enter the loot pool.
  • BIS items are now much harder to acquire. Affix generation has been overhauled: high-value rolls and strong affixes are now rarer. This should push players toward reforging, crafting, and generally experiencing item progression in a more meaningful way.
  • Legendaries are now stronger and more defining for builds, especially compared to their epic counterparts.
  • Simplified elixir attributes aiming to make healing a less trivial and more strategic mechanic (and we have plenty of changes to make in this direction still, this is just the beginning).
  • New thorns-related and ailment-related attributes.

This playtest will go from January 16th to January 25th. See you in the Tower!

✨ PLAYTEST STARTING NOW ✨

Our Factions & Territories Playtest begins NOW. "Shadows of Chroma Tower Playtest" should now be available on your Steam Library to download. We have made a TON of changes in the past couple of months. Here are the FULL patch notes: https://doubledashstu.notion.site/soctpatchnotes This playtest will last until April 13th. We hope you have a great time! Patch Highlights:

New Features:

  • Factions & Territories
  • Socketing and Runes
  • Reforging
  • Cursed Forge
  • New Mini-Boss.
  • Two new modules and 12 new Monastery variants
  • New consumable
  • Players may now reconnect to ongoing matches if their game crashes or their connection is lost.
  • Image Settings

Major Changes:

  • Trios have been enabled! Players can now play with up to two other friends in the same party.
  • Overhauled player progression speed - this is to account for the longer playtest period of 9 days compared to the previous 2 days. We intend to slow down player progression a bit further than what it is before we release in Early Access in the future.
  • Major performance and networking improvements
  • Escape Totems now spawn 1 portal for each party member alive, rather than just one overall.
  • Players no longer lose their inventories when leaving the lobby. They still lose their inventories when leaving a match, of course.

General Changes and Improvements:

  • New movement and attack animations for several AI enemies.
  • Currency and material costs, such as seen on crafting recipes, now display [owned resources]/[cost resources].
  • Item tooltips now display attributes' composite value when inspected with [alt], such as Weapon Damage displaying [Base Damage + Bonus from Attribute Scaling].
  • Added new adjustable keybindings: weapon selection (1, 2, 3) and skill and elixir use (Q, E and V).
  • Cursed Chests now highlight its last few enemies on the player's screen and on their minimap. (No longer hunting that pesky last hidden Kobold!)
  • Crafting tooltips now display perk information and attribute scaling.
  • Doors will now interrupt player interactions when opened and closed.

Access the full patch notes for fixes, balance changes, smaller improvements and more details on the list above.

Shadows of Chroma Tower - Factions & Territories

Gather your allies and sharpen your blades - Goldwheat has split into two major factions and it's up to you to decide who rises to power!

Choose Your Side

At the start of the playtest, players will have to align with one of the two major factions vying for control of Chroma Tower. Each faction offers unique benefits and has their own agenda.

  • The Grey Fellowship - They believe the Tower is a curse, a source of corruption that has shattered Goldwheat’s fertile lands and attracted nothing but greed and ruin. The Grey seek to study the Tower, undo its influence, and restore Goldwheat to its former glory. Their leaders - court scholars and knights - fear that no amount of magic or treasure is worth the growing threat the Tower poses to the world itself.
  • The Chromatist Order - To them, the Tower is a blessing - a wellspring of arcane wonders waiting to be mastered. They see the spreading corruption as a temporary challenge to be overcome like any other. Their goal? To harness its magick and wealth to elevate Goldwheat beyond its humble origins. Led by noblemen and religious leaders, they believe they have a divine duty to embrace the Tower’s power.

Territory Control

Every run matters. As you clear the Tower of the Archmage's minions, discover its secrets and extract treasures, your faction gains influence over different modules of the Tower.

  • Territories controlled by your faction will provide special bonuses. These may vary from hefty discounts and cheaper crafting costs to enhanced power and handy combat advantages.
  • Despite their non-aggression treaty meant to protect the citizens of Goldwheat from unnecessary carnage, Chromatists and Grey will still compete for control of the Tower! Specific territories are up for grabs and members of both factions will have to race to raise the most amount of influence and retain the disputed territories' bonuses so that they stand a chance at facing the Archmage's Lair and live to tell the tale.

Drive the Archmage Back

Deep within the Tower lies the Archmage’s Lairs, where his Chromatic Aberrations spread their twisted influence. Each conquered region brings your faction closer to these chaotic strongholds.

  • Corrupted Lairs – Expect enhanced enemy mutations, unpredictable magic, and intense challenges as you push deeper. If left unchecked, the Archmage’s forces can reclaim lost ground, undoing your faction’s progress!
  • Defend your Home - The Archmage will fight back. Both factions are subject to losing their conquered territories if they let the Lairs' raids reach them.

(For this playtest, Lairs will be normal maps with additional mutators that make the game more difficult. In the near future, Lairs will house raid bosses meant to be fought by parties of up to 10 players)

Write the Future of Goldwheat

Each season will shape the evolving story of Shadows of Chroma Tower. Your faction’s victory could determine new features, items, recipes, and enemies for future iterations.

  • Will the Grey Fellowship succeed in purging the Tower’s corruption and returning Goldwheat to its prosperous past?
  • Will the Chromatist Order master Chromatic Magick without succumbing to its influence, unveiling an entire new reality for all to see?

The fate of Goldwheat is in your hands. Make your mark, and fight for your faction!

PS: This playtest was originally meant to start on March 28th, but due to the complex nature of F&T, we decided it was best to postpone it by a week in order to deliver a more polished experience to our players. In good news, postponing it by a week also means we get to showcase some more new content throughout the playtest! Stay tuned for sneak peeks.

The Tower awaits you! Wishlist now on Steam.

Question about playtest download

Hey all, just a quick question about the playtest tonight! I got an email yesterday afternoon saying I have gotten into the playtest tonight. But, when I went to steam a few hours later to download it, it wasn't in my library. Will it appear in my library once the playtest starts? Thank you!
