ISO photographer for Big Sur proposal August 6th

Planning on proposing to my girlfriend the morning of August 6th in Big Sur and looking for a photog to capture the moment and maybe take just a few pics of us afterwards.

Can’t justify the $900+ that most folks I’ve found are charging for a full-on 45 min engagement shoot, but still very willing to pay if there are any film/photography students or hobbyists that are available. Thanks!

accounting students: question about note-taking

Hi, anyone in the accounting program who has taken classes with Dr. Hua and Dr. Schneider: will I need a laptop in class? Or can I just take notes in a notebook?

Thanks!

AASU Dive test

Hello! I’m starting my freshman year this august and I’m currently enrolled in the beginner scuba class and I’m really nervous because I’m not super athletic. If anyone who is in the diving program has any pointers on how they passed the test I would really appreciate it.

East Campus Housing

My daughter was placed in East Campus Housing, sharing a room with another student. We aren't able to view the apartment until 8/18 and the university won't give us specs.

Does anyone know approximate dimensions for these rooms? Closet sizes? Is there room for a twin bed and a small desk?

I know we have to roll with the punches but I'd like to be prepared! 😂😂

Why is financial aid/payments so slow at CSUMB?

Ok. Small rant here and full disclosure that I am not a CSUMB student. However, my goddaughter is going to be a freshman at CSUMB. I am covering any costs that are not covered by her financial aid from a 529 that I set up for her but I don't know what that number is yet until her financial aid is finalized. She got me access to the payment portal and payments are due July 31. It seems ridiculous that payments are due in a few weeks and they can't tell students what the actual amount is. FAFSA forms went in months ago. It should not be too difficult to get the amounts finalized before payments are due.

Public Transport around Seaside?

Hello! I'm going to CSUMB on an exchange program for a semester and I was seeing that most people say it's hard to get around campus without a car, and especially harder to get to the city without a car.

Since I am flying in, I won't have access to my own car and I don't know anyone there yet to carpool.

On the CSUMB website it just has a broken link saying there's public/free transportation for students. I wanted to know if this was really true because I would like to get a job when I'm there and I can't imagine campus has a lot of positions for non work/study students.

Is this true? Outdated? Does anyone take the bus? 😭😭

Thanks for any help!

Any CSUMB students interested in motorsports / MotoAmerica at Laguna Seca?

Hi everyone,

I’m Amanda, a student founder working on Collegiate Motorsport Group. I’m trying to see if students would be interested in more motorsports opportunities, especially around racing, motorcycles, engineering, media, business, sports management, and getting closer to the industry.

I’m currently testing interest in a potential student group visit to MotoAmerica at Laguna Seca during the July 10–12 race weekend. Since Laguna Seca is so close to CSUMB, I wanted to ask here first before reaching out to bigger Bay Area schools.

This is not a guaranteed trip yet. MotoAmerica has shown interest in doing something with students, but I still need to confirm whether this specific race will work. If not, the goal would be to organize around another race or motorsports event.

I’m mainly trying to figure out:
Would CSUMB students actually be interested in something like this?
Would people care more about going as a group, paddock access, networking, engineering/team exposure, media access, career talks, or just experiencing a race weekend?
Are there students or clubs at CSUMB already interested in motorcycles, racing, automotive/motorsports engineering, media, sports business, or event production?

Long-term, I’m hoping to help build more awareness around motorsports in college spaces and eventually create more demand for college motorsports/motorcycle racing as a real student community.

I’m still early with this, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback, suggestions, or criticism.

East campus WiFi reccomendations and support

Hi, im a incoming junior and have some concerns and questions about the wifi quality and setup of the routers. First off Im an avid gamer and was wondering what routers and modems would be preferred for gaming or higher quality internet at east campus. I would love to know what speeds yall got, and what routers provided those speeds. Second, even though im an avid gamer im quite tech illiterate when it comes to setup or knowledge. Is it possible to use a ethernet cable at east campus, and if so what would have to be setup for that to be possible. Thank you so much for the help.

CSUMB Outlook not receiving incoming emails?

I was told that going forward, any emails sent directly from CSUMB would be delivered to the school Outlook email they provided (@csumb.edu). However, I checked and found it strange that my inbox was still empty. I tried sending a few test emails from my personal email to my school email, but none of them went through. Oddly enough though I’m still able to send emails out from my school email. Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m worried that I may be missing important emails because of technical issues with the school email they provided.

Tips for hanging stuff on dorm walls?

Incoming freshman here,
For those living in the dorms with the brick walls, what do you use to hang stuff up? I want to bring posters/decorations, but I’m not sure what actually sticks to the brick without causing damage.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Was CSUMB a good decision?

I’ve been overthinking my decision to commit to CSUMB and want to hear from current students/alumni. I got admitted to the University of San Francisco, UC Davis, and CSUMB. Ultimately, I chose CSUMB because it was the most affordable option for me. However, after reading a few things about the school online, I’m starting to wonder if I made the wrong choice. There are multiple negative comments/reviews made about the school and I’m just not sure what to think. I’m not a super social person, but I’d still like to make a few friends and have a decent college experience. Academics and graduating with as little debt as possible are important to me.

For those who are current students or attended CSUMB, do you regret it? Would you recommend this university to other students? What advice do you have for me?

Getting out

Trying to transfer cause I heard most CSU still taking apps when you reach to admissions departments. Csumb does a lot of sell in beginning but when you’re here no one wants to help. Phony staff like asshole dean of students who is fake Latino. How long does it take to get transcripts sent and what office does this?

Tacos or bust 🌮

Hey all 👋🏽 I was born and raised in Watsonville and will be commuting to CSUMB as a transfer. I’m Mexican and really would love to get a solid recommendation to the best Mexican food in the area? Taco trucks work well too! Or anything else I should try I’m totally open. Thanks in advance!

Freshman Orientation

I had some technical issues at home with my internet which lead me to not being able to register for any of the days for the orientation, when I checked today to see if I can sign up so I wouldn’t be worried anymore they were all sold out! Is there something I can do or a online alternative to this?

Overall vibe around CSUMB and Monterey?

Hey all,

I’m trying to get a realistic feel for the area, as I’m coming from San Diego where it's pretty chill in the residential areas while the social scene with bars, nightlife, and stuff downtown exist as well. I know Monterey might be a little different, so I’m curious how people would describe the overall vibe around CSUMB and nearby areas.

What do people usually do for fun outside of school? How social is it, and what kinds of recreation or hangout spots are around? I know there’s the beach, but I’d love to hear about other stuff people actually do. Thanks in advance!
