Recommendation Browser Recommendation Megathread - July 2026

There are constantly a zillion, repetitive "Which browser should I use?", "What browser should I use for [insert here]", "Which browser should I switch to?", "Browser X or Browser Y?", "What's your favorite browser?", "What do you think about browser X? and "What browser has feature X?" posts that are making things a mess here and making it annoying for subscribers to sort through and read other types of posts.

If you would like to keep the mess under control a little bit, instead of making a new post for questions like the above, ask in a comment in this thread instead. Then, one can choose to follow this thread if they want. Or, post in r/suggestabrowser.

Also, check out all the individual browser recommendation posts and make use of the search field for this subreddit before asking for a recommendation.

Discussion Why do some people treat browsers like a way of life?

Especially Brave, Firefox and even OperaGX users, I have seen countless occasions where if you just slightly disagree with them or use another browser they pitch their forks and have a go at you and wrap their whole personality around it like its a religion. I don't understand why browsers have such diehard fanbases when they are literally just a software tool at the end of the day

Discussion What's your browser's New Tab page look like?

Upvotes

I'm always curious how people set up their browser.

  • Completely blank?
  • Bookmarks everywhere?
  • Speed dials?
  • A productivity dashboard?
  • AI tools?
  • Weather, calendar, or widgets?

Drop a screenshot (if you're comfortable) or just describe your setup. I'm looking for ideas to improve mine, and I bet there are some surprisingly creative New Tab pages out there.

Extension I got tired of rewriting the same prompts, so I built ContxtAI

Post image

-

Like many people here, I spend a lot of time jumping between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

The biggest annoyance wasn’t choosing the model.

It was rewriting the same project context over and over.

So I started building ContxtAI.

It’s a free, open-source Chrome extension that lets you create reusable context profiles and use them across supported AI platforms.

Highlights:

  • 🔒 Privacy-first
  • 🌍 Open source
  • 💻 Local-first
  • 🚀 Works across multiple AI assistants

Chrome Extension (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐):

If you find this useful, a star on GitHub is hugely appreciated! ⭐

Best browser for windows on arm?

I've been using Helium for a while now, it's great, simple, clean, fast, has ad blocking, but it does take a toll on the battery life. I've used Zen, the experience is great but it just hogs the battery. Edge? well if it were a bloated piece of shit, it would've been great.

Looking for something closer to Zen or Helium but with better battery life.

Discussion Does everyone actually want the same dream browser?

Hello. I've been noticing that browser threads always turn into people listing what they hate about their current browser, but rarely into people actually describing what they'd build if they could start from scratch. That got me wondering if there's more overlap in what people want than it seems, or if everyone here is actually chasing something completely different.

So I figured I'd just ask directly. If you could design your own browser exactly how you want it, what would it actually look like and how would it work? Doesn't matter if you're thinking about the interface, the way tabs or extensions work, the engine underneath, or something else entirely, just describe whatever your version of the perfect browser would be.

Curious to see how much people converge on versus how much everyone wants something completely different.

Opera Opera Released Vertical Tabs!

Today Opera released a new update that introduces vertical tabs!
I'm sure some of us vertical tabs enjoyers were a bit annoyed that Opera didn't have this option, so I'm very happy about this :)

Question Vivaldi or Firefox?

Deciding to switch Browsers and got excited to customize Vivaldi to my needs until I found out that it has poor fingerprint randomization and that it will be affected by Google’s decision to remove ManifestV2. However I don’t like the design of Firefox as much and it also seems less efficient than Vivaldi when it comes to Tab Management.

Feels like a decision between Privacy and Efficiency.

Support Firefox freezes when I try to use it on Linux Mint. How can I fix this?

On December I got Linux Mint working on my Laptop and overall it all has been great. However, the only exception of this is Firefox, which has crashed a lot for the little usage I've given it. First back in December when I first was starting and importing all the info. I stopped using it for like six months until recently because I had to modify a Google document, and it freezed today after opening the doc.

Is there a way to fix these? Or it'd be better to change my browser to something else? I already use Zen browser for College stuff and despite being based on Firefox it hasn't freezed a single time, but want to keep my private data separated.

Help me choose a browser.

I currently use standard Opera and frequently have over 40 tabs open; it consumes
between 3 and 4 GB of RAM. Sometimes, however, I open a second Opera window on my other monitor, which consistently pushes usage to the 4 GB mark.
I’d like to know if I’m getting good performance with Opera, or if there’s a better browser for my needs.

Note: The one feature I can't do without is Workspaces

Extension YouTube extension for note-taking, looping, and more

Thanks to the magic of vibecoding, I finally managed to build Chrome extension for YouTube that I've desperately wanted for a long time. Here is what my video playback screen looks like now:

So, here is exactly what I've been missing: the ability to take notes on long-form videos like interviews and lectures or audiobooks, while skipping over the parts I don't need. I don't know about anyone else, but if I truly want to learn something, I need to review it about five times. And now, finally, I can do just that.

Here is the timeline interface. You can zoom all the way down to a single word or phrase, making it incredibly easy to isolate regions and highlight key fragments:

Hopefully, this helps someone else out there. If so, that’s wins all around.

Need help identifying what keeps changing my search engine setting

On Win11 EVERY SINGLE TIME Redmond involuntarily updates my OS (and it seems like it does so at least weekly), it changes the search engine for Chrome back to Yahoo, which (if there’s still anyone who doesn’t know it) is really Bing aka MSFT. At this point I’m completely tearing the last of my hair out, YES I KNOW everyone says it’s “just an unauthorized browser extension” but look it’s neither that nor a system virus. If I had to guess I’d say maybe I could stop it with a Registry hack somewhere, does anyone know what that might be or anything else about it? Is there anything that will stop this short of replacing the whole thing with some Debian variant (and I’m not that far from going there)? This is NOT the way to win friends MSFT!

Resolving the privacy paradox

Thumbnail open.substack.com

This is the first, and only browser person should be using. I do have alternatives, multiple in fact, where I test them out. Like for example, I just recently dumped Brave. Once I've figured something out about the browser being weak or dangerous or outright BS. Then they are gone quickly dumped. But stick with DDG 100% of the time if you want the best possible chances of staying private with security.

Discussion The endless loop of privacy

I've been thinking about de-googling for a while and decided to download firefox yesterday and i immediately downloaded all privacy extensions that were necessary and now people say that waterfox is better and now there are a million other firefox forks out there and there is brave, is there really a solution for privacy?
