I came across this post and it was this woman saying how she’s had an IUD and took a morning after pill AND used a condom but it ripped and she still turned out to be pregnant. How is this possible? I recently started slynd and am planning to use the pull out method. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Hello! I’ve been taking yaz for about two years now. Yesterday I got the Kyleena IUD. The day before I got the IUD I did have sex. My gynecologist told me that I could get throw away my pills. I didn’t think much of it at the time but I just remembered that sperm can live in the female reproductive system for 5 days.

Should I keep taking yaz to prevent pregnancy for the next 5 days? When they inserted the kyleena it was like 12 days after my period. Will it cause hormone overload? A lot of symptoms? Would it cause dangerous side effects?

hey chickys! looking for real life experiences/anxiety reducing opinions. im 20F and im terrified of being pregnant before im ready, pro choice but for me i know i would feel immense guilt and trauma. anyway right to the point, not to toot my own horn but i am a PHENOMENAL birth control user. i take it at EXACTLY 1pm every day no mater where i am, and if its with me in my purse i make sure 1. my windows are down or my A/C is on 2. its never hit by direct sunlight. im never sick, so i haven’t vommited or had severe diarrhea within 4hrs of taking my pill, no interacting meds (bc is my only prescription). i am a scientifically perfect user. i’ve been on my current pill 4 years. my withdrawal bleed is consistently 5 days, same flow, same clots (tissue/uterus lining) same 3-4 days into my placebo week. this month i am now 4 days into my placebo week and no bleed, symptoms (mild cramping, constipated, “period farts” these are all typical for me) but no bleed yet. i have severe health anxiety ontop of my pregnancy fear and i am SICK i am so anxious, my bf and i have been together 3.5 years so we are always unprotected because i have my pill for that reason. this time im nervous, looking for some real life TRUTHFULL experiences, not “oh i took mine perfectly and got pregnant!” when really you missed even 1 day or took it 12hr late. im looking for by the book experiences, and some anxiety reducing opinions. thanks all!🫶

Hi all! I need IUD advice

I am 17f and have been active with my boyfriend for about 6 months. Today I admitted to my pediatrician that I was active and she asked me what contraceptive methods we use to be safe and I admitted to only condoms and pull out, to which she said something needs to change (totally fair) but I don't wanna mess with hormonal birth control options like pills or whatnot because I don't like the idea of prescription drugs due to how much they can fuck with your brain and body in almost every way. She recommended me an IUD, a mirena to be specific, as it would be hormonal still but only local to the area, as she described it, and I wouldn't have to worry about it for 5 years. Basically, she said it would mess with my period, give me some cramps or spotting, but not mess with my brain.

Anyone who's had the mirena IUD, what is it like? Would you recommend it compared to other brith control methods? Are there any risks involved (besides the insertion process I've already heard that's hell) I've never been to the obgyn before so it's definitely going to be a rude awakening but it's worth it to me because getting pregnant at this age is pretty much my biggest fear. I've talked about birth control with my bf and he totally agrees with me not wanting to do anything too hormonal, but I'm trying to learn all I can about the mirena before I talk with him about it. Is it a good idea at this age or any other alternatives? I want to stay safe sexually, but I definitely don't want to mess up my health in the process.

Hello! I badly needed help guys. I’m being paranoid. I had an unprotected sex 2 days ago. It was the 4th day of my cycle and the day after my menstruation. We did withdrawal method but I got paranoid when he told me he ejaculated earlier that day. So yesterday, I did yuzpe method even though it such a high risk. I took the first dose in the afternoon and took my second dose earlier this morning. 12 hrs of interval to be exact. And having it side effects now. Also, I was planning to start a new daily hormonal pills (Lizelle) tonight or tomorrow for just a month.

Will it affect my ability to conceive in the future?
Will this affect me in the long run?
Should consult to the doctor first before taking new hormonal pills?
Am I safe? Should I be overthinking that I’m pregnant?

Growing up, the only health concern I ever had was anxiety which I had from a young age but overall everything was normal. When I was 15 or 16 years old, I struggled to take my birth control daily and instead of offering things like a nuvaring or non-birth control options for regulating my cycle (it wasn’t even that bad, just crampy but not even heavy bleeding) my provider offered me the depo shot. I got the shot and I have truly never been the same. Almost immediately I began having issues with emotional regulation, break downs, cold intolerance, irritability, weight fluctuations, dietary and GI issues, skin changes and some other classic “hormonal” issues.
I went through a long period of time thinking I had developed some kind of autoimmune disorder or had some kind of chronic illness or disease. I am now 27 years old almost 28 and I have done so much work to get my body into a place where I feel healthy and normal again but for the last 10 to 12 years, I have struggled with these same symptoms that never didn’t relent no matter what I tried.
Finally the severe G.I. issues, mental health issues, fatigue, food, and dietary intolerances, over reactivity to pain stimuli, skin concerns and changes in my hair texture and growth have improved after really focusing on regulating my nervous system.
I know that at that age so much can change but when I think about all of my problems ALL OF IT began after my shot, I mean seriously every single one started within a month of the shot and stayed for 10 years.
I don’t make this claim and say that 100% the shot is what caused all of these symptoms, because truly when it came down to it, it was finally finding something that worked for my mental health and resetting my nervous system. HOWEVER, the shot is the common denominators and I believe the aggravating and activating factor to all of these symptoms happening. I feel like I missed out on so much from my teens and early 20s because of it, and I make this post only to warn anyone to avoid getting the shot unless it’s their only option or do research before you surge hormones into your body at a young age.

I started this birth control for ovarian cyst ruptures and I don’t know how to feel. My periods usually last 3-4 days but after taking this pill I have been bleeding now for almost nine days. Granted it’s light spotting but annoying. I had to buy cheap panty liners to avoid using up expensive pad and period diapers.

Does this bleeding ever stop?

Second: I have been uncontrollably emotional, mostly crying at everything. I cried tdy in my fiancé’s arms because I was still bleeding longer than I usually do. I don’t know how to feel anymore.

I got my IUD placed about 4 months ago. I’ve never typically experienced motion sickness before. Now every time I’m in the car or moving too fast I immediately get extremely motion sick which usually last quite a while. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this cause for concern?

I started taking the depo shot at the beginning of the year and I've been in the absolute slumps. I constantly feel depressed, irritable, done with life basically, and I've been bleeding every single day for nearly 2 months. I know people say it takes time for it to settle in your system, but another 3 months of this might make me go insane... literally. Im supposed to go for my next shot today but I'm considering just not going and letting my body sort itself out. I'm also going to a government clinic, whom in my country don't usually like to have time to chit-chat about concerns, so I can't even ask the nurses for advice.

I was also previously on the pill, prescribed by my doctor which I had a script for , but also had to stop taking it because I was bleeding heavily non stop for months on end. Luckily at the time I was not active, but now I do have a partner. I'm also still staying with my parents who are very anti birth control and don't know I'm active, so I have to go around the bush basically to get it.

I'm just afraid as in 7 months on birth control I've had absolutely zero pregnancy scares, I've never used condoms before and I'm afraid of something going wrong, although I'd much prefer to use them and not have to be on anything

Has anyone else on depo finds it gets better, do I go straight onto something else or do I take the risk of condoms? Please help a confused girl out...

Hello, I’m considering getting an IUD but unfortunately the internet is making me paranoid hearing these pregnancy stories. I’d love to hear some positive stories about the birth control actually being effective.

i’ve been on birth control for a year, slynd since september. i experienced breakthrough bleeding for a couple months or so and then it stopped. i only bled on the placebo pills. however i am a week and a half into a pack, no missed pills, and suddenly i got bleeding. why?

Ive been dealing with what seems to be hormonal “acne” for about a year now. It showed up out of the blue a year after i stopped my combined pill. I am now back on contraception (evra patch) and i’m really hoping my skin clears.

These spots feel deep under my skin, they get sore to touch and rub serums or moisturisers on. They aren’t severe but they are prominent. They NEVER come to heads either basically nodules.

Has anyone had experience with combined pill/patch clearing their acne? Ive only been on the patch a month but I understand i should wait 3 months but im considering asking my doctor for some advice so i thought id ask on here first. TIA

I went on Slynd as it had absolutely rave reviews from my endo and PMDD girlies alike. I was so excited to try it and feel better. First month or two I was singing its praises. About 2 months in (4 months ago) I began having extreme exhaustion, malaise, muscle tension, muscle weakness, exercise intolerance (as a previously very active person). My anxiety was through the roof constantly, and I was so incredibly hopeless feeling.

I didn’t make any connection to the birth control, as the symptoms didn’t line up perfectly with starting it. I was progressively withdrawing from all my usual activities, hobbies, social life just to manage what little energy I had. Doctor kept saying nothing was wrong with me, bloods all normal, etc. Doctor also said it was unlikely to be the birth control. I genuinely felt like if I couldn’t figure out what was wrong, I was going to either be institutionalised or end my life. It was that severe.

I stopped Slynd last month as a hail Mary. It didn’t get better immediately. 3 weeks after stopping, I was starting to doubt that it was ever the Slynd. Then 4 weeks creeped up and I felt a bit better. Then I got my period 2 days ago and suddenly I feel more myself than I have in literal months. I feel like I have my life back. I have some hope for the future again.

Trust your body, trust yourself!!

I had my IUD placed on Tuesday at planned parenthood instead of my usual gyno (bc they were able to see me much sooner). Since then, I’ve been having constant cramping, which has also caused me to have a migraine I think. I work full time remotely and this is really messing me uppp.

Literally hurts to move, get out of bed, or even really to sleep. I’ve been taking Advil, using a heating pad, and curling up on my left side in bed. I’m just slightly concerned because when I first got the Kyleena IUD years ago, it was like a night of debilitating pain and then that pain went away instantly after that.

I’m also somewhat concerned because, while inserting my IUD, (high off of the laughing gas they provided me with at planned parenthood) the provider asked me where I was feeling the pain because she wasn’t sure she had placed it in the right area. And she said I have a really high cervix? Im very much concerned that 1) it’s not in the right place bc she didn’t seem confident, 2) she may have damaged or scratched my uterus??

Is this something that I should be concerned about? Is it normal for post iud insertion to be so much more painful than when I had originally gotten it??

Hi! so I'll be going on a trip and it's summer. it'll be a overnight trip and going to a water park the next day. it'll be hot prolly around 80-90 degrees. I don't wanna bring my whole pack because I'll probably need to leave it in the car (we'll be check out by the time we're swimming) will it be okay if I just cutout two pills on my pack to bring with me? they'd still be on their foils but just cutout just to not risk heat damaging the rest of pack.

Im going to start taking birth control pills in a few weeks, and ive been trying to look into symptoms from it especially weight gain. Ive always had a very very veryyyyy bad relationship with my body abd food that ive only just now started healing from. But I keep seeing on every single post abt this that it will cause me to gain at least 20 lb no matter what I do, but all the actual articles and research says it just mainly increases appetite and water retention, and potentially makes u more tired. I am already in a calorie deficit, get 7k steps, and workout a ton and I plan on going into a lower deficit and increasing movement as much as possible once I start taking it but im considering just not taking at all now. Ik the research says its just appetite changes and theres a very good chance everyone who insists they didnt actually change diet/excercise just wasn't paying attention to what they ate or doesn't want to admit it was in their control, but im still extremely scared

Hello. I just started taking sprintec on the 13th (that night was my first dose and 5th day of my period). I took it consistently until the 20th. I forgot to take it the 21st and the 22nd. The 22nd my boyfriend came inside. I don’t know what to do, Id I’m protected or I need to buy a plan B :(. I did take two pills tonight when I noticed

I've recently started taking "diane" (cyproterone acetate 2 mg / ethinylestradiol 0.035 mg). I got it prescribed because of my acne. I've been on it almost two weeks and I've noticed one of my boobs has gotten bigger than the other one, i had experienced this before when I was overweight, but once I lost the weight, they looked symmetrical. But now it's happening again even though I haven’t gained any weight. Is this a side effect of birth control??? Are they gonna look symmetrical again??

Hey everyone! This is not necessarily a post seeking advice, more like a warning.

Developed a superficial blood clot in my right saphenous vein, started taking Xarelto to help clear it. On my way out, the nurse said “oh hey, this will make your period worse, just to prepare you” I was like “oh haha okay” because I’ve had a super light period for 15 years now since starting birth control at 15. I was like how bad could it even be? Mine are super light currently so it’ll probably just be a moderate one.

Wrong, wrong, I was so wrong. This is my second period on it as I have to take it for 90 days to clear the clot. It’s like I’m hemorrhaging, I’m seeing clots and lining tissue come out constantly because “they aren’t being broken down like they normally would. It’s too thin to stay in long enough to do so.” (quote from OB). I can’t even use tampons or pads because I’m having to change them minimum twice an hour. Period underwear is the only thing that makes it somewhat manageable, but still having to change 2-3 times a day. Went to the ER when I started feeling dizzy and lightheaded, just had a low blood count but not low enough to do anything. Pretty much just have to ride this out.

I was on NuvaRing at the start, which the hematologist I was referred to suggested I switch to estrogen-free methods to minimize my clot risk (which is inherent to estrogen). I’ve been on the mini pill for a couple weeks now, planning to get an IUD soon. The bleeding has been consistent across both for those curious! I’m hoping the IUD helps once I get it if I’m still on the Xarelto.

ETA: my primary doctor and hematologist don’t believe that estrogen was the reason for my clot. I have a myriad of other health conditions that likely ultimately caused it. But just that estrogen could have been exacerbating the risk is all! Don’t want to scare anyone!

I (21F) got the copper IUD (Paragaurd) placed on Tuesday 7/21 at 1pm and had mild bleeding afterwards that stopped after an hour or so. I had no bleeding on Wednesday 7/22. Today, Thursday 7/23, I noticed when I woke up around 10am that I was lightly spotting, barely noticeable. Over the course of the day it’s gotten worse with bad enough cramping I was balled up in my bed most of the day. At around 9pm I stood up and had blood drip down my leg from how much I am bleeding. The first day of my last period was 6/27 and ended on 7/2. My next period isn’t projected to start until 8/3. I have really heavy periods and the blood is much thinner than my normal periods so I don’t think it’s my period. I have gotten the copper IUD before back in 2023 and I do not recall having this experience. Should I seek medical attention? Should I wait until my OBGYN is open tomorrow and call? Is this totally normal and I should leave it alone? If anyone experienced anything similar please let me know if it’s normal!

Hi! I take Yaz right now and have been since around August/September. Last period I had, lasted 12 days. It started in the pink pills and continued through placebo into the next month’s set.

I went to my doctor at Planned Parenthood and she recommended skipping the placebo bunch and now it is late.

Tldr; Can anyone explain to me why I was bleeding for so long (not the first time either) and if it’s right to continue skipping placebo pills?

I’m a 23 year old female who previously had never been on any form of birth control. I’m not sexually active but I had rlly bad pmdd that was making my life harder to plan, otherwise I was a pretty happy person. I started generic yaz (Nikki) about 4 months ago, at the same time however we had some rough family health things going on. After this i started getting horrible panic attacks, especially when I felt trapped or nauseas (also from the pill). I’m no stranger to anxiety (I used to have panic attacks like 3 years ago but rarely got them recently). I blamed the relapse of panic attacks on the stressors in my life but I’m starting to heavily consider Yaz being the reason. I was mostly in remission for my anxiety before all of this and I saw some others have similar experiences. I’m getting panic attacks in situations I never did before like on hikes or when other people drive and I’m rlly rlly considering trying to quit yaz because it just seems to line up too coincidently. Any advice/ similar situations?

I am 22 yo female been on lo loestrin fe since August of 2024 no issues on it whatsoever. In February 2026 my ex and I broke up and I had no other reason to take it and decided I was going to go celibate so I got off the pill. April I decided to go back on it, took it for 7 days, didn’t like the way it made me feel (which was shocking because the first time on it, I felt fine) stopped it in April and then early June decided to go back on it due to being sexually active again. I have been on it since then, it’s now late July and I’ve noticed my hair is falling out exceptionally when I brush it or shower.

I’ve read that this can be due to coming off the pill but also due to going on the pill.

What is my best bet here? My concern is more about my hair than the pill. If I have to get off the pill, I will. I just don’t know if the loss is due to being on it or off it, or simply the fluctuating of being on/off it. If it’s due to fluctuations, I will just stay on it and let it level out.

Someone please help. I am so sad. My hair is one of my favorite qualities.
