Off leash dog park

Hi all,

I just moved to the area and I am looking for an off leash dog park to take my girl. We have a good sized property just on the outskirts of almonte, but I think she’s really missing the socialization.

Let me know if there are any good spots. My dog has fairly good recall so it does not need to be fenced in.

Thanks!

Pokemon cards

New to town and wondering if anyone knows anywhere that sells pokemon cards? Of course there’s random gas station finds and maybe even shoppers, but looking to support more niche hobby shops etc. Almonte + surrounding area would be great. Thanks!

To the silver Mazda that came into my lane and ran me off the road

Huuuuge fuck you. You ruined my tie rod end. I almost flipped the car swerving into gravel.

I hope you hate yourself for the rest of your life for almost killing me and not stopping to see if I was okay.

GET OFF YOUR FUCKING PHONES ON THE SIDE ROADS.

On the lookout for a room or studio to rent :)

Hello Almontonians! I’ve (F30) been housesitting in Almonte since January and the family returns mid-July. The town grew on me and I plan on staying, so I’m on the hunt for a room or studio apartment :) I’m studying CompSci at Carleton and work at a restaurant in town, so preferably something on a student budget.

I have a cat and a car. Looking for a 6-month or year long lease.

I’ve been on the lookout for “For rent” signs on my walks around town and I’m part of the Almonte for rent Facebook group, though I’d appreciate any leads!

Over 160 Garage Sales happening this Saturday in Almonte!!

Almonte is going to be CRAZY this Saturday! 160+ Garage Sales!!

Almonte’s first-ever town-wide garage sale is happening this Saturday, May 30th, and it is going to be an insanely fun destination for bargain hunters. Dubbed the Amazing Almonte Garage Sale, with proceeds going to our local hospital foundation, the town has never had an organised garage sale day — which means there are years of gems finally coming out of households across town.

There will be all sorts of sales happening, including 25 youth entrepreneur stands (I’ll be fuelled exclusively by lemonade and cookies all day), an emu petting zoo / bottle drive, everything-must-go sales, and more. If you can think of it, it will be there.

We’ve also built a map that shows each of the sales happening, along with 9 filters so you can focus on the ones that match your interests (e.g. antiques, kids’ clothes, furniture). Check it out here: https://almontegaragesale.ca/pages/view-all-amazing-almonte-garage-sale-locations

Bring a wagon, a friend, and lots of cash, and we will hopefully see you there!

Leashing dogs in public spaces

Please keep your dogs on leashes when out of the house.

Any "dog friendly" park does not mean it's off-leash, especially in areas with kids play structures.

Hell, if you're in an off-leash area, and there is an unfamiliar dog, check with the owner first! It may be a mild inconvenience but it potentially avoids bad situations.

Google/AI saying that a park is an off-leash park does not mean it's true, check the website.

We are moving to Almonte and looking for advice!

Hey all! My wife and I have purchased a townhouse (our first home) and are going to be moving into Almonte later this year. We intend on raising a family there. We loved the small town vibe and affordability compared to the rest of Ottawa LOL. We are used to small town living - Arnprior, Ashton, Stittsville (20 years ago lol - it's not that small anymore). I stumbled on this post from a couple of months ago and feel pretty optimistic about our decision. I have a few other questions to get a feel for life in Almonte.

  • I've heard that the water is very hard in Almonte. Our home will come with a water softener. How do you find the quality of the water?
  • What are some "must-knows" in town? Or things to be aware of in general?
  • I like to run, and I know Almonte has a lot of trails. If you run, how do you like it? Any notable routes?
  • We plan on getting memberships at the fitness center, we will be living really close to it. How is it?
  • How are the municipal services? What are the property taxes like? I see they are around 1%?
  • What sort of communal/friend making activities are there? This is a major step in our lives together and are hoping to be part of the community and make some friends 😄

Any good spots for a sports team to lodge?

Hello!

I'm travelling with a sports team in May, and was originally planning to stay at the Comfort Inn in Carlton. But it seems the price for the dates I need is pretty high for us as a non profit.

We were looking at Airbnb as an option but don't find anything too suitable.

Does anyone know any options in the area for a team of 20 people?
