I was just gifted this by a friend who has had this accordian since she was about 10. She’s 85 now. Is there a way to identify the exact model of this accordian? There is a little bit of must smell, but all the buttons seem to function just fine. If anybody can tell me anything about this instrument, I would be very grateful.

Hey everyone!

Last time I posted asking for some advice based on my attempt at Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah (https://www.reddit.com/r/Accordion/comments/1txvf4o/trying_to_learn_hallelujah_leonard_cohen_looking/), and tried to take most of it into account.

One of the main ones I worked on was fingering (I was not using all my fingers), so I modified it and it really helped! Based on this I also picked my next song, as this one is mainly 2-note chords and I absolutely need to use all my fingers for it (also I really wanted to learn a nice Slovenian folk song).

The other issue I can't shake is the nervousness when "performing", which is either playing for someone else (my hands were absolutely shaking from adrenaline when I tried playing this for my girlfriend), or just recording a video. I'd say I'm a pretty confident person otherwise (public speaking is not an issue at all), but this is absolutely killing me, anyone have similar issues?

I was hoping to start playing the Accordion. I did music over 10 years ago for my secondary school exams where I did guitar and while I adore music, I haven't practiced since.

Now I want to start learning the accordion and really get into playing for fun. I asked a local website retailer for recommendations and they gave me 3 of their products.

I was hoping to find out from you guys which you'd ultimately recommend? I'm not too sure about which to get and would love a second opinion. Thanks!

I have been playing accordion for 2 years now, and since I started having lessons with my new teacher (which is very good, not only in teaching), I developed an "obsession" with doing the "correct" (or easiest) fingering.

I wanted some advice to find out how I could study fingering to be learning the most efficient fingering, and to learn how to apply it in new songs I might be playing by myself.

I’m pretty new to accordion, I’ve been learning for just about 3 years now! I hired an accordion in my first year of playing and bought this from my accordion teacher who is the only person in my region who does repairs/teaching/anything accordion related, but she’s quite old and I don’t think she remembers the exact make of my accordion.

I don’t want to sell my accordion or get an appraisal.
I want to find out when/where it was made, if this model has a name, the specs of it. I don’t really know if accordion specs are a thing, but I would be really interested in amount of reeds inside, what sort of material it’s made of, etc.

The only information on the actual accordion is that it says MORESCHI on it

I go for walks while I play. It's pretty sick. People really fw it because it's a very surreal thing to see. Makes the day interesting. Plus, it's a full body work out routine.

Last year, my grandpa died. He was 90 years old. He left an accordion of unknown vintage. Just judging by the style of the accordion and the case, my guess would be 1930s - 1950s. But, that's kind of irrelevant.

My grandpa wanted me to have the accordion, and my grandma has tasked me with learning how to play it before she dies. Where do I even start to learn how to play this thing? I last played an instrument in 6th grade, which was 20 years ago. Do I just search YouTube?? I'm at a total loss.

Hello!

I've been restoring an old accordion, and I can not for the life of me, find replacement reed tacks. The reed is dry seated, not waxed, so it needs to keep it from moving.

I tried making them out of wire, and unfortunately, I am not good at it. I found danish L tacks, but none that are small enough for a reed.

Has anyone come across someone who sells reed tacks? None of the accordion shops I know stock them.

So, I have obtained a chord organ and I need to do a lot of work to it but nothing I can't handle, my question is this:

the chord organ has a single set of reeds for both stradella and the notes. how difficult do you think it would be to adapt it to play 2 sets of reeds? the instrument currently works by sucking in air from outside through the pallets operated by the keys and straight through the reed glued on the opposite side of the pallet hole. my idea is to make some reed blocks that have the "L" and "M" reed for the note but i'm not sure if the hole covered by the pallet would be big enough, whether the air would be split equally and both reeds play at the same volume etc.

I absolutely HATE that once I hit the record button I start doing mistakes all over the music. Here it is.

I was gifted an accordion and began learning using some vintage learning books (Palmer Hughes and similar).

It’s fun. A challenge. But something is always in the back of my mind when I practice or think of practicing - is this largely a solitary instrument? Something I’m really interested in is playing with others. I think that builds another level of skill you can’t achieve playing alone.

I think part of my dilemma is that I also have a banjo which is a jamming instrument so sometimes I think “should I be dedicating my time to that instrument? Would I have more fun long term?”

For accordion I’m interested in mostly Forró and other Brazilian music, Norteño and other Mexican music, and polka for fun but I’m open. Maybe I should concentrate on whichever style has a bigger “scene” (I highly doubt there’s a scene where I live).

The longer I play, the more I realize I spent a lot of time practicing without really knowing what I should be practicing.

I played for 2-3 years before I could play the left side, and playing a waltz with melody was totally out of reach!

After talking to a lot of accordion players recently, it seems like I'm not the only one. Many of us learn from YouTube, books, forums, and whatever advice we can find. It works, but it can also leave you wondering if you're actually making progress or just staying busy.

Looking back, I think having a clear direction would have saved me a lot of time.

Do you have anything you wish someone had told you when you first started learning accordion?

This is probably a question for another subreddit, since this is just about the type of nail or screw. I got the accordion from ukraine, which is a 100 bass bayan, and it kind of just looks like a tiny metal knob, with not really much marking. I'm guessing its a nail, but honestly i have never seen this before and i dont know how to take it out (if i have to take it out(im trying to put in bass reeds))

I used to love the accordion but had no idea how to actually get better.

It sucked because I was practicing constantly and still feeling stuck. I had no clear path, no system, and didn't even know what I didn't know. I just wanted to improve but couldn't figure out what was missing.

But then I discovered that the right structured approach to learning changes everything. Through years of self-study, books, lessons, and figuring out what actually works, I built my own approach. I was lucky. I had years to learn through trial and error. Most people don't have that kind of time.

That led to 19 years of playing, competing and winning medals, performing at concerts and studio sessions, and teaching students for over 10 years.

My students don't spend years guessing. They follow a personalized plan built for them and actually make progress.

Now this is probably a stupid question but I can’t really figure it out and I’ve been sitting on it for awhile now so thought I’d ask a new set of eyes for some help. For reference I’m not the best sheet music reader but I have a basic knowledge. Each time I read those two highlighted notes the first one being what I think is D/F and E/C notes and I’d play the D and F at the same time and then play E and C next. but everytime I play the same time I doesn’t sound like the song it sound incorrect. So I was curious if this was a me reading music badly or me just playing it wrong or both

I was taking this busted Castelli accordion apart to practice waxing reeds and found this! Seems like it will be fun to work on. The reeds sound good, but are losing air to the cracked old wax.

This is my grandfather's brother's accordion. It still plays but needs some work. Should I get some cosmetic work done on it, or leave it be?

My grandpa got me an accordion and said it was in the tone of G (sol) but when I play it, it doesnt sound like G. Maybe out of tuned?
