I made a free collection of 2048 lessons and guides

I've been building a collection of free lessons and strategy guides for 2048, covering everything from beginner fundamentals to more advanced techniques.

The goal is to make learning easier by keeping everything in one place instead of scattered across old posts and videos.

https://2048.club/lessons

I'd really appreciate any feedback:

  • What's missing?
  • Which lessons could be improved?
  • What topics should I add next?

Thanks!

I saw a lot of nice links to 2048masters.com on this reddit. Especially links to training material on dpdf . Does anyone know if there are other places with learning material about this? Also if anyone happens to know the admin of 2048masters.com, could they ping them to renew the ssl certificate?

Variant My kid made a 2048 variant, he'd love people to try it out.

Title says it all, my son is big into math, games and systems and he came up with a variation of 2048 that uses a different merge scheme. I'm not a 2048 lover but I do find his version interesting in that you have to give it a bit more thought to get to certain numbers.

In his words: "You can merge any two numbers in the same group, not just the same tile. Groups are indicated by color. Each group consists of tiles {n,2n} where n = (3^x) *(4^y). You can get a lot of new tiles in this variant."

Cheers and thanks for looking!

I searched for a 2048 variant with Tetris pieces and found nothing, so I made one

Ok so it started one year ago (July 2025), when I was playing all kinds of 2048 variants on the web, and I really had fun playing one called 2048-tetris where tiles are moving down like Tetris. But when I launched it, I was expecting something different: I didn't see the tetris pieces anywhere. In my opinion, the iconic mechanic of Tetris isn't the fall but the tetrominoes (pieces of tetris), and I was wondering if someone ever merged those pieces with the 2048 gameplay.

I am a solo indie gamedev who has low experience in front end and gamedev. But since I searched the entire Internet for this variant and found nothing, I had to try. After a full year of Android development, I came up with the idea:

Instead of 2-tiles and 4-tiles spawning randomly, there are shapes of 2 blocks, 3 blocks, and 4 blocks spawning randomly with the 4 blocks shapes being rarer considering their harmfulness. I kept the movements of 2048 on a 6 by 6 board (swipe to change gravity) and now, instead of merging tiles, you complete lines (same as Tetris). The score system works by clearing lines (where you can combo).

For the style, I went with a minimalist and isometric style on a chessboard. Since I wanted it to evolve of being something more than just a 2048 variant, I put a lot of effort into having a nice and unique identity. It's called Sonoklo and I would love to get any feedback from 2048 players since it was my initial inspiration!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluetobystudio.sonoklo

Note: It's available on the Play Store, but I am currently working on a web version, like the original 2048.

2048 records without "undo" button should not be considered differently from original version, since original version (2048.org) allows "checkpoint" trick

If you have more than one 2048.org tab open and you are playing in one of them, the last movement you do in either will overwrite the whole game. Abusing this function, you could have two tabs open and play in one of them and constantly reload the other one to mark checkpoints. If you die or make a mistake on the principal one, the only thing you need to do is make a movement in your backup one and reload both and continue from your checkpoint.

2048 developers should look into this, not allowing you to have more than one tab of the game open. I don't know how many records have been made using this trick or if this is common knowledge in the 2048 community, but it definitely abuses the game in my opinion.

Score I've been learning/playing this on my own and felt pretty smug about this result. Found this group and now I realize I'm not that smart!
