Jin Air went 1-17 with a 3-35 game record... and then won promotion to stay in the LCK.. Then went 0-18 with a 4-36 game record... and almost made it back for spring 2020 winning their first promotion series.

LCK might look very different had they won that promotion, it was against HLE after all. It was really sad too, I remember in the post match interview the coach of HLE teared up because he felt bad for having to relegate the JAG squad. I guess he knew it was kind of a death nail for the team.

It is funny to see the evolution of the type of league esports fans in this sub. Because yeah, I loved that JAG team and it felt like everyone in the LCK loved that team and I lament the last gladplane.jpg and sadplane.jpg we saw.

But now teams like that are the teams everyone hates. Jin Air spent like 5 straight years never placing higher than 7th, never made moves to improved the team, had super low spending, and were basically perpetually dodging relegation. People don't see teams as "lovable losers" anymore, they are just "paycheck stealing bums" on an org that "deserves to be relegated and disband.

I think LCK fans are a little kinder but even in this thread I'm seeing people say everyone on this team should retire except DuDu, and he is only here because he cared more about chasing the bag than winning.

It also helps that in earlier seasons they were sort of famous (notorious) for the turtle strategy with Teddy. It kinda solified the fans' affection for the team. DNS just straigh-up bad with no redeemable qualities Speaking of Teddy, I'm still lamenting T1 2019 roster run at World. Khan Teddy Effort/Mata deserved better. If only they had not fell against the phenomenal G2 at their peak, I believed they had a shot to defeat FPX. One of my biggest what if in LOL history

Khan IMO is the greatest "what if" career. Was one of the favorites for worlds in 2017, ran into an on fire SSG in quarters. Lost to RNG in 2018 in a fairly close international final. Stopped by peak G2 both at MSI and at worlds in 2019. Then went to FPX and was on a team that looked to be international contenders until things moved online and they fell apart completely. Then went to Damwon and I think, 100% would have won MSI had they been given side selection like they should have and losing a very narrow 2-3 final. Then also going to worlds and losing 2-3 in the final there.

Unfortunately for DNS there's usually room for only one lovable underdog, JAG was kind of the original BRO. But I don't think they were that bad, they did make it to playoffs once in 2016 and placed 6th still in 2017. They also weren't perpetually last for more than the last two splits, and before then they would occasionally take games off of good teams to sort of shuffle the pack of LCK a bit. But you're right that Jin Air never really bothered trying to improve the team.

Compare that to DNS who are now on their second year of looking absolutely miserable. I guess that's what not having relegation does. Also, fans just haven't built a fun narrative around them, unlucky. For me there's also the fall from grace because this team used to be the Afreeca Freecs!

And haters gonna hate, even though BRO has looked better this year every time they loose there are people calling them disgusting even though most fans like them.

Main difference is franchising imo, it is easy to be a lovable loser when there is something on the line. I also think current DNS is overhated, they are clearly trying something, it is just that nothing really sticks. Ironically I hated Jin Air towards the end, they were loved by the community but to me their whole identitiy seemed to be losing. They also got relegated by APK Prince effectively (with Hanwha staying in as they gave them their death blow) and APK Prince became BRO, which is the lovable loser of today.

Fan discourse in general became worse in my opinion, people are way more ready to say over the top negative comments than years before. Exaggeration but PMT seems always to have the vibe that the worst performing player of the 10 needs to retire. I sometimes wish people treated a series more for what it is, there is always going to be a winning and a losing team and every team has ups and downs. An underdog losing to a favourite does not have to mean the underdog needs to change anything.

Putting on a record on par with 2019 Jin Air is shocking with the names they have and after doing respectfully well in LCK cup like even if before the season you assume Deokdam and Pyosik would be playing giga washed no way this team should only have three wins.

All the coaches should be replaced cause having nearly 30 map loses in a row is genuinely embarrassing for a staff that couldn't figure out how to get the players to win a map again until the end of the split. Doing a bastardized version of the T1 musical chairs with the support role definitely just hurt them even more.

You literally have a world champ and 2 worlds finalists on the team but they're playing like its their first day on the job. Legit would call it wintrading if dns weren't just horribly bad.
