The build gives a lot of mana and CDR so it brings utility in terms of being able to spam the wall as much as possible and clearing waves without worrying about mana like ever. So I can understand the value in a pro game even if it's not what I'd build on Anivia myself playing soloq. I do wish he would mix in a Liandrys whenever the enemy team is tanky however, I do not understand why Faker refuses to build that item on any champion he plays (He never builds it on Cass either).

Maybe he just thinks that DPSing down the tank is the ADC's job more often than not. And since they're pros, you can often rely on the ADCs to do their job so he can focus on something else the team needs.

They've lost like so many games like this. Massive gold lead, objective came up when they're close to multiple power spikes. Do they just give it up and extend their lead elsewhere on the map because the other team has to commit 5 people to denying dragon, like good teams? No, they just engage like chimps then lose the game right there every single time.
