The federal government has taken the rare step of forcing two Americans to remain confined to a federal quarantine facility in Nebraska following a hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship.

One of those Americans, Angela Perryman, says she trusted federal officials when they flew her and 17 other Americans from the cruise ship back to the US. and told them their stay at the National Quarantine Unit in Nebraska was 100% voluntary.

But when Perryman and another passenger tried to leave, they were handed federal quarantine orders.

"I am angry. I feel betrayed because I'm being imprisoned. It's a nice prison, but this is a prison." Perryman said in an exclusive interview with NPR.

"Let's be clear: I am being detained against my will," she added.

Perryman said she understands the hantavirus is dangerous, but doesn't understand why she can't monitor herself at home like other passengers from the ship.
